How did Solaire and others reach Anor Londo if the Iron Golem was still alive?

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:46 AM PDT

Guess it's a very stupid lore question, but I really want to get it.

I mean, the Golem's soul states that it killed many heroes who tried to reach Anor Londo, but somehow we find Solaire chilling at the bonfire and Tarkus dead near the entrance to the Painted World. The flow of time is convoluted for sure, but aren't they supposed to defeat the Golem in their own realm and then appear in mine as phantoms? How are they physically present in my timeline?

What Is This Attack In Blighttown???

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 04:59 PM PDT

    Story.

I've played through Dark Souls multiple times by now, and have never, ever seen what happened to me in Blighttown happen before.

Right after the first bonfire, something from very high up started shooting me with what looked like magic missiles - white magic shots with a black core that homed in on me and did ALMOST my entire health in one hit.

I've never, in all of the times I've played this game, seen this happen before.

Is it some weird Gravelord Servant enemy? I was Hollow at the time, so it couldn't have been an invader's attack. What was that?

Been having fun with Dark Souls via the Randomizers

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 06:41 AM PDT

I've been playing for a few weeks with the randomizers and I'd highly recommend people try it.

First, you get some crazy stuff going on. Like the hallway shortcut to Blighttown having an ornstein and a super ornstein in it. Or having undead burg have a fire sage demon hanging out in the area where there is normally the first bomb thrower.

Anyway, for me part of the fun has been that with the item randomizer, you get weapons that I've personally just never seen in my souls life. This current run, I started with the Furysword, which quickly got up to +3, then I found the demon catchpole, which i'd never given a second thought to, but I had enough twinkling titanite to get it up to +4 and queelag's furysword doesn't hurt Queelag, who was hanging out where one of the two gargolye's was supposed to be.

Anyway, you get the idea. It's super fun. You actually get better at fighting a lot of enemies by seeing them in a lot of new places. Having new combinations of enemies to fight at once can be insane, and still has that kind of the cool gratification you get from souls.

To use it, I downloaded the files from:

    https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/1407 (enemy randomizer)

    https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/1305 (item randomizer)

I have had a number of crashes, mostly when waking up a lot of monsters. It's recommended to put steam into offline mode and play offline obviously using these could be seen as cheating.

If you're feeling like the default setup in souls has been played out, i can't recommend this enough. It's really fun.

    Ornstein and Smough NG+

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 02:57 AM PDT

Holy shit I just beat Ornstein and Smough on new game plus and my god was that a roller coaster of emotions. My heart rate was through the roof and my hands were shaking even after the fight. As this is my first souls game I found them very hard on my first play through so I summoned help after like 50 attempts but I promised myself I would solo them on new game plus and my god did I fulfil that promise. Only took 3 attempts and I've never felt this good while playing a video game in a long time. These moments are what make this game amazing! Looking forward to Four Kings haha

How exactly do I get a weapon past +5

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 08:47 PM PDT

So I'm new to dark souls remastered, I played 2 and 3 but not remastered. I just beat Sif and I know that with his soul I can get artorias' great sword. So I have a zweihander +5, and it no longer appears in the upgrade menus on blacksmiths or on my bonfire, what do I do to upgrade this weapon the rest of the way?

    My only problem with co-op.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 09:22 PM PDT

Getting rewarded with "hard" humanity instead of "soft" humanity (the item itself), because of how often I seem to die when I have any number higher than 0 on my HUD.

Coming from DS3 where you got an item that could be used whenever it's a little on the disappointing side, but I've been having so much fun helping people as a Sunbro so it's really only a nitpick at worst.

BloodSouls Q/A Series: Do you have any particular rules set in place for yourself when you play this game? (ie. No summoning phantoms, no running through areas etc.)

Question about weapon level and matchmaking

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:07 AM PDT

I picked up an enchanted falchion that a mimic dropped on a low level save, which previously didn't have any weapon upgrades. I was aware of the occult club in anor londo and passed that, but what weapon level would my save now be considered after picking this one up? If I'm now locked to that as my new weapon upgrade level, I may as well upgrade some more stuff up to that same level, mainly had the pyromancy flame in mind..

    New Character

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 07:58 PM PDT

Thinking about starting a new character and running quality with either pyro or faith. Going to use baemore and grass crest/tower kite and will use elite knight set. Can some please break my indecisiveness and help me choose faith or pyro, this will be purely pve.

    Platinum help (spoilers?)

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:24 AM PDT

I have been working on getting the platinum for the game and the last thing i need is the normal Greatsword of Artorias apparently. I misunderstood because I thought that it would say (CURSED) in the name because that is how it is in the book and on the wiki. So I had one already and I literally just started ng++ for the sole purpose of getting the other soul and I just made it into the wrong one -_- ... i know that it is my own fault and I deserve to go and collect all the lord souls and start the next playthrough and ring both bells again, but I would really rather not. I'm sure you guys know what I mean when I say that is literal cancer since I JUST killed Sif. Does anybody have an extra that they don't mind parting with? I can trade it for my extra boss souls (like artorias or manus) or for humanity. Hell, even some armor.

Edit: Sorry I am not sure how to hide specific things as spoilers, I am pretty dumb with using reddit.

Edit: Forgot to mention I am on PS4 DSR

    Challenge Runs

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 09:17 PM PDT

Just curious about the challenge runs people have done here throughout the series.
What was your most difficult? What was your most enjoyable?

    Looking for some ideas.

Thank you for all the help and pointers to minimize risk. I eventually got Havel's armor and used iron flesh to avoid being staggered by the Kings' attacks

    I met a Vagrant today

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:55 AM PDT

For the fist time since I started playing this game, I have met (and killed) a red vagrant.

Just before that I saw an item bad that couldn't be picked up. Every time I tried to grab it, it just teleported to my location but I got no item. Possibly related?

I just wanted to share that with you all.

Trying to kill Artorias with a brigand's dagger is...

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:49 AM PDT

...some of the most soul-sucking shit of my life. I haven't been having a very hard time with this run until now, but Artorias is on a whole other level. He doesn't bleed at all (it's all Abyss in there apparently), and he doesn't stagger when I attack him while he's charging up because I'm pretty much just gently tickling him with a downy feather. This is barely a step up from beating the poor man to death with my bare fists. Slowly chipping away at his healthbar for 50 damage a pop, only to have him kill me in one to two hits 5 minutes into the fight is hollowing me faster than anything I've fought in a long time.

Venting aside, I know that I'm 100% the reason I suck at this fight. Probably because I'm still wearing the starting thief armor, or because the dagger's only +14, or because I'm only level 60-ish, or because I don't have a backup weapon on hand, or because I'm not summoning... or because I'm using the brigand's dagger.

Has anyone tried anything similar? If so, how are you still alive?

Had the bright idea of rushing Rheas quest line to get Wrath of the Gods early.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 07:21 AM PDT

So, straight after making my char I did the Lower Burg jump skip and cheesed Capra then went straight back to Firelink to trigger her move to the Catacombs. I ran through the top layer of the Catacombs and did the double drop to Leeroy's summon sign then ran straight to Pinwheel and let Leeroy do the work. From there I ran in the dark to the first bonfire. I let Patches kick me into the pit where I grabbed the skull lantern, and let the bone columns deal with Vince and Nico, talked to Rhea and boned back to the bonfire. Mission accomplished right ? Wrong. After many attempts to get back to the bone wheel area I realised I hadn't opened the entrance to Vamos' bonfire. I had no choice but to climb up through the entire Catacombs, with hardly any estus and a un-upgraded weapon knowing that one mistake would send me right back to Tomb of the Giants. I made it but I think it took a few years off my life. If anyone wants to have what I think is the purest Dark Souls experience of dread and terror, I highly recommend you give it a try.

Linked the flame after all this time.

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 09:08 PM PDT

I finally beat this game. It took a few years of me picking it up, putting it down, picking it back up and continuing the cycle. (Pardon the pun).

Then I recently got a switch and picked up dsr with the sole purpose of playing through finally. After all. I beat ds3, why can't I beat 1?

Well I forced myself to continue through frustration and I relearned the game.

I get why lost Izalith is unfinished and it DOES feel super lackluster. Bed of chaos sucks. I actually understand these instead of just nodding along.

Thank you Dark Souls community for keeping me from going hollow!
