The plotline is actually the merging of three different ploys/schemes Posted: 27 Mar 2020 09:09 AM PDT It's one of those things that isn't entirely obvious on a casual playthrough, but I'm sure everybody's had those moments where they look at the sequence of events and think, "Wait, if I was supposed to be doing X, then doesn't Y actually hurt that?" And the problem here is that the Bearer of the Curse is actually getting yoinked around by people or groups with three separate goals, and those things aren't necessarily compatible with each other. In essence, there are three separate individuals who provide guidance to the Bearer: Shanalotte, Nashandra, and Aldia, and they all want something different out of the story. Shanalotte is what you might think of as the Aldia/Vendrick Plan A. Her goal is to have someone take the Throne of Want and Link the Fire (though I still would argue that taking the Throne of Want would also allow the Bearer to become the Dark Lord instead--that taking the Throne is essentially "yay, you get to choose between DS1's two endings for the next age" though DS3 establishes that the fire was eventually linked in "official" canon). Shanalotte was created out of Aldia's dragon research in an attempt to avert the Undead curse, and while that was itself not successful her underlying goal is still to have a Chosen Undead Link the Fire, restoring the Age of Fire and "rolling back" the curse by strengthening Gywn's seal of flame that prevents Humanity from taking over. Nashandra, of course, wants the First Flame for herself. Born of Manus's desire, she is a creature of eternal want: ambition and power-seeking are her fundamental nature, and at the core of it she wants to control for herself the First Flame itself. To do this, she has to access the Throne of Want, but Vendrick threw many guardians in her path when she realized what she was, most of all the King's Gate that prevents her from getting to the Throne chamber and the golems that will only allow her to access the throne itself with the Giant's Kinship. As a creature of pure Dark, she cannot get through the Shrine of Amana and its Milfinito maidens that lull the Dark to slumber, nor can she escape the Undead Crypt's control of Darkness. So she attempts to get the Bearer to open the way for her, anticipating that she will then be able to kill the Bearer and claim the Throne for herself (protip: she needs to work a little harder on that part). DS3's usurpation ending (or the betrayal ending when the Ashen One murders the Fire Keeper) map well to Nashandra's ambitions. Finally, we have Aldia Plan B, which is Aldia himself as he is at the time of the game. After further research, he has realized that the true form of humanity is to be Hollow and that "life" as people think of it is an illusion forced upon them by the First Sinner, Gwyn. Linking the Fire perpetuates the illusion, but accomplishes nothing in the long run--it will always fade, and the cycle of Undeath will repeat. Nothing lasting can be built in the face of this truth, which is why kingdoms rise and fall one after the other, leaving nothing but ruins and ashes of memory. He seeks an alternative solution, but hasn't quite arrived at it yet. Nonetheless, in encouraging the Bearer to follow that path, he also knows that his own apparatus towards Linking the Fire exists, and that Nashandra seeks the Flame for her own ends, and so wants the Bearer to defuse these situations. (Aldia doesn't know it, but his path eventually leads to something not unlike DS3's End of Fire ending, where the natural progression of the world is renewed and the artificial extension of the Age of Fire put to rest.) Posted: 26 Mar 2020 10:54 PM PDT Whew. So I decided to start screwing around with some hexes that I hadn't tried before. This is in my NG+ where I'm currently breezing through it, just arrived at Earthen Peak. So I tried Climax on a very low-grade enemy. Did not realize it would consume all the souls that I had on me, which was just over 80,000. It did 21,000 damage. That was one expensive fireball. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:48 AM PDT Just got invaded buy someone called McSmelt on a Champions run in NG, in Forest if Giants. I got him down first but then he parried me twice without trying to kill me, waved goodbye and then dropped me 3 +10 weapons. Was hilarious thought I was being hacked [link] [comments] |
Finally finished after all these years Posted: 27 Mar 2020 04:57 PM PDT Context: today's my 21st, I've had this game in some form basically since launch, and circumstances or roadblocks (eg no longer having a PS3, being away from the game too long and feeling the need to start over, etc) have always kept me from completing it Finally got Vendrick's Blessing, defeated Nashandra and Aldia, and walked away from the Throne of Want today. I'm approaching SL 175 where I plan to stop leveling, about 4M SM, transposed every boss soul (and defeated all bosses), completed all NPC quests, farmed 50 Loyce Souls, the works. Aside from ranking covenants that aren't the Pilgrims of Dark and those spells you can otherwise only get on NG+ or ++, I think it was as complete a playthrough as you can get. Clocked in just over 60h DSII has always been my favorite of the trilogy. The magic, the unique equipment, the sheer build variety, the sprawling and aimless world with its feeling like a long journey, the way the story is like the "fractured fairy-tale" but actually done well, and the pervasive melancholy and (ahem) longing in the game's characterization of the soul and humanity have always put it above the other two in my book. I'm not sure when my next journey to Drangleic will be, but I look forward to finally experiencing the fabled NG+ changes that go beyond I and III [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:26 PM PDT I just finished my first run through of Dark Souls (Remastered) and finally got 2 and 3 in the mail today. I just started playing 2 first and oh my god what is going on. Despite how people say that DS2 may have some flaws, I'm not really bothered by that and am just planning on having the best experience possible. However, it hard to have much of an experience when I'm getting stuck on the Old Knight Dudes at Heide's Tower of Flame. Were they this difficult for anyone else? Im trying to take them on instead of run, but maybe out of 10 runs, I can only beat the second once, and after that I don't stand a chance against the rest. I'm not blaming this on the game, I'm just kind of in awe right now. I chose a dexterity start since inDS1 I chose strength. Do you think this could be the reason why? TL;DR : I'm doing very badly at Heide's Tower of Flame, I don't blame it on the game, but I just want to know if anyone shared a similar experience (to make me feel better I guess, lol) Edit: I just realized why the game was warning me about joining that Covenant O_O [link] [comments] |
starting tomorrow I am doing a ds marathon due to Covid-19 Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:51 PM PDT I am visiting all three ds subs looking for words of advice, weapon or gear suggestions, or boss tips. I have only played ds2 once, and know quite a bit about it, but because I have already played it, I am looking for suggestions that could make the game harder, I could always use a ladle only run, but wish me luck on my journey, skeleton! Posted: 27 Mar 2020 03:59 PM PDT Maldron is notorious for being a tricky bastard but it turns out even he has a potato AI. It took me several attempts at killing him but the general idea is to clear out the sorcerors and the hedgehogs nearby before engaging him (don't open the gate!). You can easily backstab him on the gesture and you can cut him off on his way to his hiding spots. Chasing him down also prevents him from healing properly as well. He hides in three spots nearby if you don't open the game. two of them are next to hedgehogs. If he actually starts to fight you, I find strafing his attacks to be the best strat. It has incredible tracking up close but you can also bait out the charges he loves so much and get in a free backstab. You'll want to stand at about the range his lance is able to hit you. My gear is +10 Mace, Handmaid's Ladle, full Peasants Set Rings - Flynn's Ring, Ring of the Embedded, Ring of Blades, Chloranthy Ring +1 [link] [comments] |
Is Dark Souls 2 really as bad as everyone says it is? Posted: 27 Mar 2020 03:50 PM PDT I've heard a lot of "DS2 BAD" but never got to trying it myself... So is it worth playing? Edit: by "bad" i mean compared to the other ds games [link] [comments] |

Can someone drop me a dragonrider bow on ps4... Posted: 27 Mar 2020 07:11 PM PDT Hello. I was making a bow and arrow only character and the dragonrider bow was going to be my main weapon. I wasnt paying attention and accidentally consumed the dragon rider soul instead of the old dragon slayer soul. I really dont want to wait until drangleic to get the bow I wanted and I also dont want to start a new character because ive already started getting this character going... Please ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ I am so mad that I consumed the wrong soul [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2020 03:00 PM PDT I just recently completed all the achievements on ds1, and I'm moving on to the next game. I used a sorcerer build that I got up to sl 200 something by ng+6. Any advise for character choice or anything else in ds2? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2020 06:42 PM PDT I beat the game, and I'm thinking about replaying on a different build. Any suggestions on a build I should try? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2020 12:12 PM PDT Got the Platinum. Thanks to everyone that helped and gave me advise along the way I really appreciate it. Also can we talk about how busted pyromancy is. I've been one shotting most basic enemies with a fire orb the level 2 fireball. Just with a normal +10 glove. In Ng++ why is pyromancy so powerful [link] [comments] |

Anyone ever been yeeted by the Ancient Dragon. Posted: 27 Mar 2020 03:33 PM PDT The other day i was fighting him, i baited his fire breath attack, and while i was attacking his foot he just yeeted me off the arena lol. I would post the video but this sub reddit doesn't allow it sadly. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Mar 2020 02:44 PM PDT So I recently bought dark souls 2 because I wanna platinum it. I've platinumed ds1,ds3,bloodborne,sekiro and I thought it's ds2 time. This is a strange request but if someone could let me know which trophies I can get from the first playthrough so I can know what I should try to do I would really appreciate it. Thanks In Advance (: [link] [comments] |
I feel like I've missed a lot. Posted: 27 Mar 2020 02:18 PM PDT This is my first playthrough. I got through Heide's on vanilla DS2, but I decided to go for SotFS again a while back and have actually, finally, been playing DS2 like someone who plans to finish it. On the main path, I just killed the Looking Glass Knight and made it to Shrine of Amana. I've gotten to the third bonfire in the Iron King DLC and cleared the initial right path in Eleum Loyce (now to kill the kitty who shit all over my litter last night). I think I've gotten most of the bosses and optional stuff... but I also feel like I've missed a lot. What all should I have killed/gotten/gone to prior to Shrine of Amana? I'm not using a guide but I also haven't shied from looking things up when I feel I need to. I just wanted to ask if there were any big things I should have done by now that maybe aren't the clearest things to find (like giant memories, what even are they and how do I get there?) I'm not even sure if I'm close to the end of the game lol, so maybe I'm asking this prematurely, but I want to try and at least kill all the bosses and visit every area on this first real playthrough. I'd hate to miss a bunch of stuff. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Mar 2020 12:35 PM PDT I am having so much trouble on this boss for no reason. I have beat every other boss in 1 or 2 attempts but I have fought these stupid fucking rats like 5 times and I cant beat it. I dont understand. [link] [comments] |
Whats the best way to break someones equipment without corrosive urns? Posted: 27 Mar 2020 12:22 PM PDT |
Posted: 27 Mar 2020 08:03 AM PDT I already took care of the other 3 great ones but for some reason this bosses moveset just overwhelms me. Even before the pyromancers show up I'm being overwhelmed. I can consistently get her down to 2/3 of her health but those pyros make it impossible to gain ground and she covers them so well. I have 30 str, dex, and int. faith is 55 any tips at all would be appreciated. Willing to burn soul vessel. [link] [comments] |
