    So.. About Those Desert Sorceresses...

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:04 AM PST

I've been playing this game forever, and i've killed a ton of these ladies. I know they're designed as coomer bait. But the other day in SotFS I killed the one who's tossing bombs out of the entrance to the Earthen Peak, and she fell through the wall.. kind of. So I walk over to look and her skirt is glitched and I end up with a full shot of her exposed butt. The devs gave them all black thongs. I'm not even joking. They literally gave them sexy underwear in the remote chance that their clothes shifted upon death.

I took a screencap to prove what I saw, and then immediately felt like a perv and didn't post it.

Dark souls weapons in real life – I tried to document as many unusal-ish dark souls weapons in this video, and avoided well documented ones such as the Zweihander, Claymore the Great Axe, longsword etc. Just btw; I’m not an expert haha. I just love making souls vids! Hope you enjoy

With which build can I steamroll the game?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:49 AM PST

I played a lot with DS2 a long time ago but just decided to jump into SotFS and get all achievements. My favourite build in the souls series is pure strength and I remember it works really well in DS2 too. However I faintly remember hexes being really strong and mage builds are fun to play too.

So what do you guys recommend? PvP is not that important, I don't care if an invader kills me because my build is PvE oriented (also because I'm rusty af). Also I'm coming from a few hundred hours of DS1 so if you have any changes I should be aware of, like Adaptability is an important stat from the top of my head, please share.

Which NPCs should I summon for items?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:10 AM PST

So far I know that summoning Pate at the giant and Lucatiel at 3 of her locations and them surviving the fight gives you their set. Who else should I summon to continue their story?

one of the funniest invasions ive got, on one of my first characters as well! i had to snipe the host since the game decided to spawn me somewhere impossible and blue sentinel was a mere casaulty of crossfire

    Fextralife maps?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 10:40 AM PST

I like to play the souls games but I sometimes like to use a map when I've explored to find hidden items , there are only placeholders on the wiki. Is there anywhere I can find good alternatives?

The Rat covenant is a breath of fresh air.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 04:34 PM PST

It took me days to make the 30 medals to max the sunbro covenant, literally like 1 summon every 15-20 minutes at 550k sm smelter demon where the iron keep was orange, indicating online activity. I'm starting to think people just don't like to play online because now I'm going for the rat covenant, where invasions are automatic rather than optional, getting summons every 5 minutes in grave of saints with no orange border at 640k sm. From should do forced/automatic multiplayer areas more often (obviously with something like burning effigies as an alternative, not suggesting there should be literally no way to avoid it) in order to nudge people into online encounters. Bellbros were about the same frequency, except the 100 victory requirement made it more of a slog.

What is the absolute, hardest hitting, Strength weapon?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 05:59 AM PST

I'm currently using a fully upgraded Dragon's Tooth. Is there anything that hits harder? I've been messing with a few other things like the Malformed Skull and Shell. There are just so many weapons. I want the highest possible damage.

How can I get lucatiels armor?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 10:33 AM PST

I love the set and she won't stay alive... using an acetic at no mans wharf makes it really hard for me to reach the boss; the rotten is easier but she dies too early even with the red eye ring and I can't really stay alive for the smelter demon...

Ruin Sentinels - NO DAMAGE [No Block/Parry/Items/Rings/Magic]

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:00 PM PST

Probably, The Hardest early game boss. To do this boss hitless, stay on the platform for the 1st sentinel and keep dodging his attacks without falling off. then, when 1v2 with other sentinels, wait for both of them to do an attack and go for 2-3 hits depending on the weapon.

    "Humans" in Dark Souls Lore

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 10:15 PM PST

This is not so specifically about Dark Souls 2 but the entire series, it's here because Im playing through Dark Souls 2 currently and the prompt for my creating this post was Vendrik and his condition in this game.

For a long time I was under the impression that, at least generally speaking, there were 2 races of humanoids in Dark Souls: Humans and a separate race of "Lords." In Dark Souls it is established that, in the beginning, when there was dark, all beings other than dragons existed as these sort of humanoid "pygmy" creatures. When the souls were found, I believed, there came a distinction with the inheritors of the lord souls and their subordinates becoming Lords, while the furtive pygmy and his fellows inherited the dark soul and, when split into humanities, became "humans." I believed this to be taken literally, that the souls found effectively altered the being of those inheriting it, creating biologically distinct races of creatures. Humans were distinct from lords in that they had a predetermined (smaller) size and could be effected by the undead curse, which is linked closely to humanity. Lords, on the other hand, grew based on the power of their individual souls. They could not be affected by the undead curse because their being was not tied to humanity sprites and they could utilize "miracles" in a more primal sense, drawing upon their own power rather than relying on complicated soul arts or reciting legends.

Having thought about it more, I'm starting to think that I was off-base. That, at their core, humans and lords are not distinct. The most obvious point in this direction is Vendrik who is stated to be human but is also inhumanly large, indicating that even humans can grow in size based on the power of their souls. In addition to this, you have Gwyn, who appears to have suffered from the undead curse. I thought at first that this had more to do with only a metaphorically "hollowed" husk being left after being engulfed by fire, but we find the Nameless King in the same state in dark souls 3. This, to me, suggests an interesting narrative in Dark Souls 1, where the "Lords" looked down on and oppressed humans based singularly on fear or misunderstanding of the dark soul or in the belief that their souls were superior. This is as opposed to belief that they, as a race, were superior. This would probably best be represented by imagining conflict between factions of a group as opposed to racial conflict as I had initially believed, where humans are the same as lords save for their inheritance of the dark soul and the "Lords" inheritance of the lords souls, sort of like the difference between sports teams. This would suggest that Lords in Anor Londo or other kingdoms may have been capable of suffering from the undead curse, or of consuming humanity sprites to stave off said curse. Humans, such as the player characters, may also be technically capable of growing in size comparable to the bosses they fight. This point, in particular, was a head scratcher. If the player character and Lords are the same, why don't we grow in size over our journey? Then it hit me, maybe the size of entities in Dark Souls doesn't depend on soul power, but of the power of THEIR singular soul. Humans, by some ritual like Vendrik, may be capable of claiming or inheriting powerful souls which take on their own personal essence. Despite this, by an incredible act of inefficiency, the player character never absorbs a singularly powerful boss soul, we CRUSH it into tiny souls every time, or infuse it into a weapon. This would explain why we never get to be the size of Mega Smough. Because we're fucking morons.

I’ve found my second favorite area so far in the Dark Souls series.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:58 AM PST

The other day I was working on my first ever play through of Dark Souls 2 and I wondered into an new area not really knowing what to expect. I walked out of the latest cave to find myself in the Shrine of Amana. From the second the eerily haunting music kicked in I had a feeling this was going to be an experience. I was right so far everything about the Shrine of Amana has just taken my breathe away. For the first encounter with a lizard creature that I accidentally found trying to investigate the glowing water, to the pain in the ass white knights that are also there I've found myself in awe of the area. It's both challenging and beautiful. I still think Anor Londo is my favorite location so far but man am I loving Shrine of Amana right now.
