    Return to Drangleic

Its Official. We Cursed ones are coming back.

February 23,2020 we return to Drangleic

    RULES

These are suggestions on how to proceed to enhance the return for everybody.

    1. Start a new character. Those builds you've been iffy with or wanting to try something new. Now's the time!

    2. Engage in as much Coop and PvP as possible. Not much of a PvP player? Eh take the plunge and summon that red sign. Prefer to play solo? Why not call in that Sun Bro? Engage

    3. If you use the name engraved ring choose Kremmel God of Struggle. (Though many would recommend NOT using the ring as it blocks you from seeing random signs of players that dont have the ring on)

    4. Leave a message in Majula saying "Don't give up Skeleton!". Be generous with your voting and placing of signs.

    5. Play at your pace. We recommend trying to beat the game by March 11th but many players will be sticking around after the 11th so dont feel rushed

    6. SotFS is recommended and this is for ALL PLATFORMS.

    Helpful Tips and Suggestions

    1. The PvP arena will be on the bridge in Iron Keep.

    2. Newcomers should talk to Saulden sitting at the base of the monument in Majula to join the Way of the Blue. It will call a Blue Sentinel in to help you if you get invaded.

    3. DO NOT join the covenant of champions if you want to play coop. It restricts your coop and you can only be invaded.

    4. Fight the pigs in Majula.

    5. For newcomers and refreshers for veterans. Dark Souls 2 runs on a soul memory tier system. Your soul memory is based on SOULS COLLECTED. Even souls you lose still count. The White Soapstone can reach 3 tiers down and 1 tier up and Small White Soapstone can reach 4 tiers down and 2 tiers up. Here is the link to keep track of your tiers.

    https://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Soul+Memory

    1. If you wish to be invaded more often equip the Delicate Ring. It increases your invasion chance.

    2. DO NOT DISCONNECT WHEN MID FIGHT WITH INVADERS OR AS AN INVADER. You will be punished and may lose the ability to play online. You have to use the consumable Bone of Order to regain the ability to play and you only get 1 per playthrough.

    3. If you're looking to trade gear head over to r/wheelanddeal

Most of all enjoy our Return to Drangleic Bearer of the curse… Seek souls. Larger, more powerful souls. Seek the King, that is the only way. Lest this land swallow you whole… As it has so many others

Special thanks to u/WomboCombo74 for setting up a discord for the event!

Besides dying to Pinwheel, is there anything more embarassing in this game than getting parried by a mere hollow?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 11:34 AM PST

I remember getting parried then riposted by a hollow soldier in the Undead Burg and in that moment I simply felt a crushing disappointment in myself. Besides dying to Pinwheel, is there anything as embarassing?

    Just had a DS1 Orgasm

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 03:35 PM PST

I have started a Randomized run of items and enemies. My gargoyles fight was Kalameet and Super Ornstein. After 3 days of learning the safe run up to the dog gate, their patterns and suppressing all greed during the fight, I've done it. I can now ring my second bell and progress.

Take a bow, Greatshield of Artorias

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:54 AM PST

Oh my God, what a shield!!! I'm so glad I used that soul on the shield. Without it I could never bait Kalameet to slam his fuckin tail to get the sword. It blocks EVERY attacks from that dragon it's blowing my mind.

Ok, rant's over, thanks for listening, back to picking up loots.

Does anyone remember an item called"Seath's Tear"?

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 03:19 AM PST

I just got done playing through Dark Souls again since I haven't played it in a few months and I realized something, I haven't encountered a Seath's Tear. Normally you can obtain it late in the game around the Duke's Archives, on the outside area where the crystal golems are. I just went back to go look for it again but I couldn't find it where I remember it being. I tried to look it up on the wiki and bam, nothing. Not a page or a simple mention of the item on the consumable list.

Next I just simply looked it up online aaaand, nothing. I feel like I'm losing my mind right now, lol. There is no results for this thing. I went around in group chats and asked others and I had two people who also remember the item message me back but they said it was further down in Crystal Cave and not in the above ground grass area. Which yeah, I looked there too and nothing.

Since there's no mention of it online I'll just describe the item itself. You could use the item and it would regenerate your HP and boost resistance. It would give you an aura around your character like a Green Blossom except it appears as blue instead of green. Also, the inventory icon was of a blue orb looking thing with a curve at the top with white patches in the middle.

So I ask you here today, does anyone else remember this consumable? This is weirding me out bad. If you guys are wondering why I want the item, I like to 100% games and collect at least one of each item.

Update: A third person just told me they remember picking it up in the upper ground area as well.

TFW you take out O&S on a practice run

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 09:22 PM PST

I had settled in for the night with a plan to just do some practice runs.

The meta-strategy had been set: practice O&S and when it seemed like I had a combat strategy down— go in with Brolaire and make it happen. But I didn't have a combat strategy. I tried to balance between watching too many guides and feeling out something that worked for how I play my pyro build.

I started off by researching which pyros would help me best. I had leveled up to a +10 flame, so I had high hopes.

I started off with a run where I'd try a few. Great Chaos Fireball first— BOOM— around 10% of Ornstein's health. This was promising— however minutes later Ornstein finished me off.

Sometime earlier, I had gotten a magical 11th Estus flask— I decided every bit helps so I'd only do runs where I didn't use any Estus. All runs end after 1 health bar.

I went back planning to craft a grander strategy around GCF and not use any Estus. Second run— I landed three GCF's and then Ornstein took me down.

Third run— this time I knew to land the first GCF right after his initial rush. After that I saw a second opening immediately— it connected. I tried a quick third but he dashed out of the way. Ok, lesson learned don't get greedy. I stared moving around the room following the wisdom to keep them both in your sights at all times. Ornstein dashes again and I connect my last GCF. After that I switched to fire orb. I connected one, finding my chances after swings. Not quite a boom but shy of 10% damage. I kept back, running cross room and keeping them in my sights— hitting with fire orb after Ornstein would attack. Some hits and some misses later and I have him down to low health. I lob my second to last one as he has me near a corner and I start to run away again.

At this point I've taken some hits and I'm at 10% health. I still have all 11 flasks. I'm weighing at this point if I should use one or not. Just then— the DAMN CAMERA gets jumbled for me. Smough also runs right at me. My entire screen is a jumble of roof and Smough— pretty sure my run is done.

And just then, cut scene. That second to last orb did it, Ornstein is down. I repeat Ornstein is down.

I had planned to spend the weekend practicing O&S. Now it's just S and I have ELEVEN ESTUS FLASKS.

I quickly guzzle 2. Easy decision, losing the extra flask is worth a rep against buffed Smough.

I have one Fire Orb left and that's it, so I switch to my Quelaag Fury Sword. At this point I'm not thinking of winning, just studying. I hang back— waaaayyy back.

I eventually start to try and find opportunities to attack. A few pummels later I realize that I'm hanging too far back— after each swing Smough takes I can't run in fast enough to get a hit before he recovers. I start hanging not back but middle— keeping a pillar in between when possible. After big swings I run in and FIGHT ALL MY INSTINCTS AND JUST TAKE A SINGLE HIT. This is my Dark Souls weakness. I'm always greedy. I always try to get extra hits in and I often pay the price but I fought that instinct so hard. After numerous single hits he's down to half health.

Ok— this might happen. I'm at 9 Estus and he's at 50% health. Here's where I switch from practice run to OMFG I might do this. I might need new weekend plans.

Smough senses my greed and acts accordingly: BOOM, flattened and I'm at 30% health. I guzzle two Estus— 7 left. I go back to my strategy, but I can't quite control myself, I'm taking 2 hits on average. It works a bit but then I'm punished quickly again. Have to guzzle again so I'm at 5 Estus. Ok, I might lose here because I can't keep calm.

I run to the opposite end, and after a few disciplined hits he's close to finished.

And then.... THE SAME CAMERA ISSUE HAPENS AGAIN! Smough rushes me— big hit down to near 30%. My screen is a mess of roof views and Smough again. I'm about to die. I chug Estus and revert to my core Dark Souls strategy: swing like a mad man and pray 🙏.

Just then— my beloved dog decides she has to pee, and like now. It's either O&S or the Rug. One cost $34.99, one cost much more.

"Dad needs one second! one second! One second!" I'm mashing my attack as much as possible. Just gotta get lucky. SWING SWING SWING SWING SWING.

Then the white cracks show up. I got him. One hit away from death.

I drop my Switch— Jesus Christ I took down O&S— on a practice run.

My dog is freaking out at this point I pick the Switch back up and run to a bonfire I knew was right after. "DAD NEEDS ONE SECOND!" As soon as I sit down at the fire I drop the switch again and run my dog down. Yep if the fight had lasted just 1 more minute I would have lost a rug and likely lost to O&S. Also lesson learned— old bolognese and dogs don't mix (what can I say I'm a sucker for her begging).

I come back and claim my prize, cleava— no, even better, THE LORD VESSEL. I can now warp to bonfires.

But most important of all, I persevered and beat O&S. I was worried. The challenge is so built up I worried I might end it all here and go hollow.

But praise the sun— I didn't go hollow today. And praise the sun— I won't be going hollow tomorrow.

Guys! Guys! Personal first! I just killed someone in Dark Souls PVP! (Played for 2 years.)

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 05:44 PM PST

Threw my sign down in Anor Lando for S&G near O&S while I was farming. (Trying to get all my achievements.)

A dude named GHOUL MASTER summoned me but was being attacked by an invader. The invader came at me with a shotel, but I laughed at him in Greatshield of Artorias. Then I cut him down with three swipes of my black knight greatsword.

After that I helped GHOUL MASTER and Sun Bro kill the Smough first then Ornstein.

After being ganked so much across all three games it felt really good to save someone from the same fate and help them take down O&S.

    Kalameet's Lore

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 03:05 PM PST

I just defeated Kalameet, that was the most satisifying victory along with defeating Artorias. Anyway when I looked up to see the lore and story behind him, there's simply nothing, only stated that he is the last of the ancient dragons and is the "bringer of calamity". So, is there more to this black dragon?

On a side note, Kalameet reminds somewhat of the Beast of Darkness from Berserk (the wolf-like demon that represents Guts' darkness), the narrow glowing single just feels too similar. If it's intended that would be actually cool, there's lots of signs of direct inspiration from Berserk anyway

Dark souls is terrifying, bloodborne not so much

    Posted: 13 Feb 2020 05:21 AM PST

I find dark souls 1 really scary, the only other game that scared me like that was shadow of the colossus and i played some horror games but it really didn't scare me,maybe it's just the foggy atmosphere with huge enemies idk.So when i went to bloodborne i thought i was screwed, turns out not really, the amygdala with eyes scared me a little other than that not so much, hell i find dark souls 3 scarier than bloodborne. So what really scares you when it comes to DS1?

    I beat O&S solo on NG+!!

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:43 AM PST

I know there's a lot of posts like this, and they probably get annoying, but I have to share so forgive me.

On NG it took probably 10 tries to beat O&S, I summoned Solaire, and had to kill Ornstein first and barely survived.

Now finally on NG+, I tried about 4 times, and solo'd them, saving Ornstein for last for his soul weapon.

I used all 15 Estus, but I did it! Okay, speech over.

What game should I try out after dark souls?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:49 AM PST

It's been a wonderful journey but it has come to close. I have collected the Lord souls, put artorius to rest, ended manus's suffering, left Priscilla on her own, freed the world of kalameet, helped a close friend while lead others to there downfall but now it's about to end. I would not play NG+(maybe after a few years), but the end of dark souls would leave a gapping whole in my heart. I would like to ask you guys what other games I should try to quench my thrust for darksouls. I was considering to get darksouls 2 but it's reputation has made me afraid. I have also heard about a indie game called hollow knight. Should I get darksouls 2 or go straight for darksouls 3 or rather try out hollow knight???

Also I am considering on watching berserk if that's any good

    Hello fellow hollows

I have just finished my first ever play through of Dark Souls 1 (Remastered). It was my first game in the series and what a ride it has been. I just wanted to say thank you to the subreddit. Every time I had trouble as to where to go, I just went here. I love the music and atmosphere of the last boss.

    For those interested:

I finished the game in 29 hours and 30 minutes (IGT). I have defeated every boss excluding the DLC.

The numbers represent the number of times I have died to the boss.

    Asylum Demon - 0
    Taurus Demon - 2
    Bell Gargoyles - 8
    Moonlight Butterfly - 3
    Capra Demon - 1
    Gaping Dragon - 2
    Stray Demon - 1
    Chaos Witch Quelaag - 0
Great Grey Wolf Sif - 0
    Iron Golem - 1
    Crossbreed Priscilla - 0
    Ornstein and Smough - 7
    Dark Sun Gwyndolin - 0
    Pinwheel - 0
    Gravelord Nito - 1
Seath the Scaleless - 3 (Had to figure out that you couldn't kill him through the normal stairs)
    The Four Kings - 1
    Ceaseless Discharge - 1
    Centipede Demon - 0
    Firesage Demon - 0
    Bed of Chaos - 4
Gwyn, Lord of Cinder - 1

Just completed a Random Fog gate run, Here is my map i used to keep track

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 07:18 PM PST

    https://imgur.com/a/v7QuoRJ

i made this map to keep track of fog gates as i went purely for personal use so there is alot of slang for names and places but a friend said it was impressive chaos and that i should share.

    Notes:

red box: unkilled bosses. Manus, kalameet and gwyndolin

    Green box: killed bosses

red lines: just to remind me i could walk between the areas the normal way.

arrowed lines: one way trips for whatever reasons, usually warps or drop downs

in/out: each side of the fog gate has a different warp so that was to keep track if it was the inside fog gate or outside fog gate.

Extra info: for the mod i had PvP zone fog gates up aswell to really segment the map up. i started in the Tomb of the Giants as a random start. https://www.twitch.tv/squigs32/videos vods of almost the whole thing can be found here but there is alot of fluf, i streamed coz friends were interested and towards the end helped me find fog gates that i had missed. The first boss i found was Nito but the first boss i killed i Killed was Capra Demon.
