    I just fucking first-tried Manus!!!!

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 09:31 PM PST

Holy shit, my heart is beating so fast rn. I remember some days ago I made a post sharing my experience with O&S, how I was nervous the whole time but managed to first try them. And I was told Manus was gonna be my next wall. I was so scared of this fight!! This mf is AGGRESIVE. He hardly gave me chance to heal or even roll away. I finished the fight with no Estus and popped like 5 humanities, but I fucking did it! And no puppy Sif either, cause my dumbass died while running around making preparations and forgot to reverse hollow. God, my experience with this game has been damn incredible. I can't wait to tackle Gwyn and then proceed over to DS2. Also, little sidenote, I wanna thank you all in the community. I always thought the DS community was full of trolls and "git gud" pricks, but you all have been nothing but kind and helpful towards me and whenever I post asking for help. You guys are awesome!

So far very happy with it. Still a long way to go. With my tattoo studio being so busy, I have to wait until June to continue, or for a cancellation to continue.

What does "death" really mean in Dark Souls?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 05:49 AM PST

In real life we understand death as the complete cessation of consciousness and existence. We can call this "real death".

But in Dark Souls, there is the concept of being undead. Undead cannot permanently die, but each death brings them closer to madness or being hollow.

But Nito is also called "the first of the dead". From this we understand that Nito is dead, and that a dead being can still exist and be conscious. But how is Nito's state of death different from being undead?

If Nito is still conscious, then what meaning does death really have? Was Nito ever alive? What about his skeletons?

Is "real death" a thing in Dark Souls? Can you cease to exist and no longer be conscious? How is "real death" ever functionally differentiated from being undead and being "dead" (as in Nito being dead) in the lore?

Gwyn ap Nudd - the king of the Fair Folk, a great warrior with a blackened face

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 01:48 AM PST

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwyn_ap_Nudd

I'm sure most people are aware that Gwyn is a Welsh name meaning "White" but there are more connections. I discovered this page on Wikipedia while researching The Wild Hunt mythos as I'm playing through The Witcher 3 at the moment (which is a great game but the combat doesn't match up to DS).

This Gwyn was involved in Arthurian legend and was an example of a psychopomp (a deity that guides souls to the afterlife). DS Gwyn has a lot of similarities but his role in the series seems to be an inversion in some ways; instead of guiding souls to a world beyond the material his actions cause the curse of the undead that keeps souls from moving on.

Anyway, possibly nothing new to any of you but I found it interesting.

I see these posts a lot but I finally get it now

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:17 PM PST

I have spent two nights trying to get past the two Silver knight archers in Anor Londo. I've fallen, I've been knocked off, I've been hit from behind, I've been ganked.

I got past them ten minutes ago. I met Solaire and I found Havel's armour and for the first time in ages I wanted to stay up late and continue on.

WHAT A GREAT GAME WHY AM I ONLY PLAYING THIS NOW

    New Player Experience

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 11:46 PM PST

After beating Jedi Fallen Order, I decided to give the souls games a shot. I originally only played for an hour or so and set it down for about a week because I didn't feel like I had really done anything. I tried picking it up again at the suggestion of my friends and got in the rhythm of grinding and the game really grew on me. Tonight a high level player invaded my server and dropped a strong weapon for me. I assumed I was going to get murdered so it was a pleasant surprise. All in all, been a huge fan of the game and the helpful community

After Sekiro, DS3 and Bloodborne, omw to platinum DSR !

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 02:05 AM PST

    ...and what a game !

Tenchu Z was my first FromSoft game but I never played any Soulslike until Dark Souls III. I then played Bloodborne. I was so in love with these games that I decided to platinum both. Then I platinum Sekiro because It wasn't so long/difficult.

And now, I'm attacking Dark Souls : Remastered.

    What a trip !

Wish me luck as I'm currently at O&S on my NG+

Right, we all know this game is a masterpiece, so let's nitpick it

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 04:19 AM PST

Let me clarify, this is like getting a Ferrari and pointing out "the seat belt looks a little cheap at the top there".

I'll start: I think there's a missed opportunity with the main door at Gwyn's Keep. It's by far the biggest door we see and we can't open it. We finally get around the other side and use a massive mechanism to open it but then I very rarely actually use it as the other bonfire is closer. It would have been cool to utilise that door more as it feels pretty important imo.

Also, to get this one out of the way, because I'm wondering about more smaller nitpicks: the second half of the game isn't as perfect as the first half.

Apparently there's a bonfire on the roof somewhere. The more you know.

Is there any other weapon that hits as good as the BKGS but is a little faster?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 04:25 PM PST

I've been hitting a wall with Bitchlameet and realized that even if my +5 BKGS does incredible damage it's useless against an asshole who keeps jumping around the place throwing piss looking fire at me all day, and the weapon just takes so long to swing around. My current stats are Vit-41, Att-8, End-42, Str-43, Dex-18, Res-11, Int-9 and Faith-9. I also sometimes wear Havel's set but tbh concerning armor I don't really have a main set I like to use, I kinda just switch them around for cosmetic purposes or whenever I feel bored of a particular one. But the 3 main sets I've used the most are the Stone set, Havel's set and Ornstein's set. Thanks!

Darkmoon miracle question - how busy are the Blues?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 01:37 AM PST

Playing a WoG faith build around level 33, wpn level 6 - so depths, blight town, and I figured I might as well get the darkmoon buff given all that investment in faith. Then I'll go and cut Kalameet's tail off for the obsidian sword, and I'll be walking around like a Don.

Not really thought this through, have I? As I've switched covenant to the Blues and it's absolutely dead as a door nail, compared to the red game which is bouncing (on XBox). Just getting the ears is going to be a project. Will I have better luck at higher level? Could go up to 50 say and bed down in Anor Londo - punish the guilty like they're going out of style?

Or do I need to forget darkmoon miracle, crawl back to Kaathe and beg to be re-admitted to the mighty Darkwraiths?

My Experience 2: The Electric Boogaloo (DLC+Optional Bosses I missed in my first playthrough)

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 11:12 PM PST

This is a part 2 to my post from 2 weeks ago, link if you care to read.

Ok, so u/thomasandsierra wanted to know my opinion on the dlc, which I didn't do in my first playthrough because I didn't know how to get to it. So here goes.

Real quick before we get started, I'll list my gear that I used for most of this playthrough, and my endgame stats.

    Weapon: Claymore

    Chestpiece: Hollow Soldier Armor

    Gauntlets: Brigand Gauntlets

    Legs: Brigand Trousers

    Vit: 40

    End: 30

    Str: 30

Dex: 35 (but don't tell anyone)

Also, it's probably worth mentioning, I saved the DLC for right before Gwyn, so I may or may not have been overleveled.

Ok, so after grabbing all the lord souls I headed off to do the dlc. I got unexpectedly grabbed by a toothy, hairy looking hand, so I ran over to get the bonfire like any regular person expecting a difficult boss fight, since it's DLC.

The Sanctuary Gaurdian, a large, intimidating, lightning shooting, Manticore... this was one of the easiest boss fights I've done in Dark Souls. For me, the difficulty was in between Pinwheel and Taurus Demon. I don't know if it was supposed to be that easy, but what I did was stick myself to it's left side after healing from the lightning balls, then just went to town hacking at it with my Claymore.

After that, I went over to Oolacile Sanctuary, talked to the Mushroom lady, then headed off to Artorias.

Holy shit, I've never been so pissed off at a boss in my life, (aside from maybe Nergigante in Monster Hunter World.) This guy was so damn hard, he gives you next to no time to drink Fire Juice. I gave this guy around 25-30 straight tries, then just gave up, went for a nighttime walk to chill. Came back to it 24 hours later then beat him on my third try.

After that, I made it through Oolacile Town, down to the Chasm of the Abyss, I don't like this area, just because of that annoying damn witch near the bridge to Manus. I explored around the Chasm, saved Puppy Sif, got bamboozled by the cat, then went to fight Manus.

Damn, this boss took me 3 days to beat. I think it's mostly because I was trying to match his intensity and speed, and staying close to him. I reached out for help in my post titled "I'm really not liking the Chasm of the Abyss" you can read that if you care to. Anyway, one user suggested staying away from him, then attack his arm when he does his slap down. I did that, but it still took me a while, I was getting his health lower more consistantly with that method.

After I killed Manus, I went looking for Kalameet. I found nothing I hadn't already seen except for a locked door near Artorias, googled what it was, then ran to get the key. Talked to Gough the Giant, admired his big boi bow, then was off to explore some more, I gave up and googled it... the path was hiding in plain sight lol. I went off to Kalameet, got killed, then went back to Gough. What happened next was one of the coolest cutscenes in the game imo.

Then I went back to Cripplemeet, and again, super easy boss. I just stuck to his right side, and kept attacking. Only moving when he was about to do his stomp attack.

After the DLC, I went off to the Painted World after killing all the KKK members guarding it. I love-hate this area. I love it in the way that it's a snowy puzzle. I hate it because all the enemies are super annoying, seriously, the blister hollows that give you the Toxic effect if you don't backstab them were driving me crazy since I was out of Blooming Purple Moss. Not to mention the annoying albino rats, Bonewheels, and army of spear throwing blobs.

After getting through all that nonsense, I fought Foot Waifu Priscilla. Never again will I fight her. She doesn't want to fight, and she doesn't even give you anything interesting. She was pretty easy, she does a lot of Bleed damage though. The only good thing I got from the Painted World, was the Xanthous Crown. I immediately equipped it.

After regretting killing Priscilla, I went off to fight Dark Sun Gwyndolin. He was kinda easy, cool fight though.

After Gwyndolin, I was off to Gwyn, to beat the game. Super easy after gitting somewhat gud at parrying.

Now to end this post like I did with my other one, by listing the bosses and how many deaths each one cost.

    Sanctuary Guardian: 0 deaths, EZPZ

Artorias: 25+ deaths, super hard, especially if you don't stop his buff animation.

Manus: 30+ deaths, super hard, just needed to git gud and stay away

Kalameet: 1 mandatory death, after Gough crippled him, EZPZ

Priscilla: 0 deaths, I really liked that you could see he footprints in the snow. I really didn't like killing her

Dark Sun Gwyndolin: 0 deaths, just hide behind the pillars for his spells, and strafe to avoid his arrows. EZPZ

After beating this playthrough, I instantly started a Giant Dad build lol, I'm currently trying to farm Red Titanite Chunks for my Bass Cannon. It's at +1 Chaos right now.
