Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Dark Souls Marathon update - THANK YOU!

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 11:09 AM PST

    Hi everyone 😁,

Stream is now over, 24hrs have passed, I'm alive and we've reached the goal. Overall I would consider that a good run. I would like to thank everyone who has supported me on this, as number of people who have been watching and helping me out was far bigger than I expected in the first place. There has been few people without whom I would probably be still stuck in Blightown somewhere (instead, I got stuck on 4K) 😂😂 great shout out to them, thank you guys, if you wanna play together next time, let me know as I am far from being done with DS! 4K gonna pay - this is personal now.

To anyone who wanted like to see me noobing on camera, but didnt get a chance to watch stream, please see the link below. 😁

    24hr Dark Souls run

If anyone would like me to stream my struggle again, let me know so I can plan this out 😂 Just to let you know the Game Changer Challenge officially finishes at the end of Feb, so if I would have to do another one, it would be for the same charity.

YOU'RE ALL AWESOME AND THIS GAME IS AMAZING!

    Praise the Sun!

Edit: had a death count, before I came to Ghost town had about 140 deaths, then I stopped counting 😂😂😂

    SO Glad this subreddit exists

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 12:41 PM PST

I remember when I had a coworker who would talk Dark Souls with me all the time. But he no longer works there with me.

I can talk Dark Souls all day if given the chance. But nobody around me likes it. They say it's not for them.

With this subreddit, I can talk about DS to my heart's content and nobody will get pissed.

    Hmm, mmm, hrm? Oh no...

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 03:25 AM PST

So i'm in Sen's Fortress. Boulders rolling down the hill. I see a snake man on the ledge below so I drop down two handing my weapon into a solid strike... BUT OH CRAP IS THAT SIEGMEYER?! He was right next to the snake boi, and not only did he also take part of that falling strike damage, it knocked him clean off the ledge and into the black below. As he falls I can hear him say, "So that's your game ehh?" And then silence. I reset, but nothing happened. He's just gone. Not even a drop.

    Fs for Siegmeyer.
    RIP playthrough.

Those milk demon Tiktok adverts use the Pinwheel theme

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 05:01 AM PST

So I was listening to some music on my phone while playing through the catacombs and just after I climb out of the arena for the Pinwheel fight, I hear his theme again. I got confused because he was dead and there was no health bar at the bottom of the screen. I took off my headphones, and then I couldn't hear the theme anymore. That's when I looked down at my phone and realised that those milk demon adverts for TikTok on YouTube use the Pinwheel theme.

Dark Souls Lore Spreadsheet--Has it been done? Are people interested?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 05:08 PM PST

I've been messing around with creating a spreadsheet of all the items in the Dark Souls games that includes a side-by-side comparison of the in-game item description and the method by which the item is acquired.

Though the games are set across an enormous time scale, many of the items appear with disparate descriptions that may give us more insight into the lore behind each item, each character, or each location mentioned (but maybe never visited).

I've not made a ton of progress, but I've started with the miracles. Largely because I was interested in seeing how Dark Souls 2 identified the miracles of Gwyn, considering his name had been relatively lost to history.

It might be a more effective community project, sourced through Google Docs. But I wanted to see if it already exists (I realize the Fextralife wiki has all of these descriptions--that's where I'm pulling them from, but it isn't comparative) or if people were generally interested in a project like this?

    Edit:

    Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SKaA7MDo-5Y6qtq4tJbqsAj6KKW-yCQnk1C2WrRKzGw/edit?usp=sharing

Right now, I have it set to "Anyone with a link can view." If people express interest in helping to edit, I can DM the link

http://imgur.com/gallery/Zhc0oWj I made a drawing of Dragonslayer Ornstein because he is my favorite boss of the main game.

Another lost soul joins the struggle!

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 11:23 AM PST

After all these years people are still discovering The Souls Series. I have finally got my best friend to play Dark Souls Remastered and after he struggled and rage quit many times he finally beat the Taurus Demon and summoned me into his game. He is now in love with the series and I get to watch him die time and time again as he discovers each lvl for the first time. I tell him nothing! Just as I had discovered the game all those years ago. I live vicariously through his suffering. Praise the Sun!

    Regarding Nito

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 03:31 AM PST

Do you have to go through the Tomb of Giants to fight Nito? Or can you attack him in his coffin?

Do we know what this place is?

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 11:59 AM PST

After experiencing how well connected the whole world is in the first game, this place always intrigued me.

Do we know the name of it or what relation it actually has to the rest of Lordran?

It couldn't possibly be New Londo Ruins, as that's directly under Firelink.

If anyone could let me know i'd appreciate it.

I didn't know Ornstein could dodge

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 07:01 PM PST

I'm on my Wisdom of a Sage run and I just received a reminder of what it feels like to get your ass handed to you by by O&S. They killed me like 6 times because that lanky bastard kept casually side-stepping (side-hopping?) my Great Heavy Soul Arrows. Eventually I decided it would be easier with a melee weapon (I had the Moonlight Butterfly spear) and with that approach I downed them in 3 tries.

Guess not everything's easier with magic

About the boss who are undead

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 06:09 PM PST

They are some boss that are undead, right? (like sister friede and the abyss watcher) So, are they any explanation that they can't continue reviving after they get defeated. Is it because the protagonist take their soul in the same time, and that's actually one way to stop a undead reviving?

Yet another "I beat the game" post

    Posted: 16 Feb 2020 09:15 PM PST

    Aaaaaand... I did It!

Strength build with heavy armor and heavier weapon.

Probably a little bit overlevelled but so much fun in smashing bosses at the very first try. You don't need a strategy when you hit hard.

Totally solo run: no summons, no invasions.

Most challenging boss: the Hydra in darkroot basin, which is not a real boss but I kept on falling in the high water.

The yes moment: when I finally was able to perform the jump in Duke's archive to get the avelyn.
