as someone who started with the later games i can see why everyone thinks dark souls 1 is the best soulsborne game.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 02:46 AM PST

i started playing the souls series late last year with bloodborne and loved it. then played dark souls 3, sekiro, dark souls 2 and demons souls ( a friend gave it to me) and loved them all as well. playing the legendary dark souls 1 last was pretty exciting for me, i heard so many good things about this game.

in about a week i beat the game and wow.... dark souls 1 is the best game i have ever played. i can see why this game had an impact and influence in gaming, its just so well done and it made Fromsoft into what they are today.

i love how this game doesn't have warping in the first half. at first i thought i might hate it, but then as i played on i was immersed and absorbed by its world in a way i hadn't in the later games. i had to learn the map layout and where to go, having no warping made learn the games world more. i also felt a sense of dread which i didnt feel in the other games. going through blightown and realizing just how far away i am from home gave me that feeling that i could be stuck in the area for good. even in a horror like bloodborne i was never scared in that game because i knew i could always come back to the hunters dream and i would feel safe, but in this game there no safe place.

world design in this game is genius. the world is created in a way that the areas connect to one another but in a way it makes sense. it makes the world of lordran feel like a real place. you could see one place far away and you could actually go there. the fact that you see other areas from another place is why i think this game has the best worldbuilding in the soulsborne series. the games geography makes the world not only feel real but it also adds to the lore a lot. going through ash lake (the bottom of the world) for the first time blew my mind and made me question if lordran was built on top of trees. also the lack of warping makes the shortcuts in this game so useful.

i found the lore in this game to be the best. all the other soulsborne games have excellent lore but this game to me has the best one. i love the background characters like artorias and sif, gwyn, his children, the sisters of chaos, demons, the abyss, the dragons, hollowing, i could go on. but man as fan of mythology the world, concepts, themes and just the lore of dark souls 1 are my favorite of any game honestly.

NPCS - best NPCS honestly. the characters that fill the world have their own agendas or goals and they just dont stay in firelink, they move around and go places. they have quests that more interesting and some of the biggest moments in my playthrough happened because of an npc, of course im talking about lautrec. after going through the hell that is blighttown i make it back to firelink feeling relieved.....that is until i found a dead corpse which happens to be a fire keeper. then i walked up the stairs and found out that i couldnt rest on my bonfire. that is when i panicked and man i remember that feeling that i could spawn all the way back to blightown. there other NPCS i could talk about like onion knight and the famous solaire that would take too long.

the estus system is the best healing system no questions asked. no farming bs like in bloodborne or demons souls. having a limited amount of healing makes healing more precious and when your dead, you spawn with exact same amount of estus you have. in bloodborne and demons souls you have to farm healing after death which can be annoying and frustrating.

other things i love about this game

    - feeling of isolation and loneliness is done best in this game

    - the game makes you feel human and less of a badass which i think is reflected in the slowness of the combat and the animations. looking

    - bosses are mostly awesome

    - this game has the best secrets

the only things i didnt like about the game were some areas, crystal caves, demon ruins and lost izalith but honestly those are 3 areas i didnt like. overall i can see why everyone thinks dark souls 1 is seen as the best game in soulsborne by many, it does so many things masterfully well that its a masterpiece and the best game i have ever played.

Is This a World First Black Hydra One Shot at SL1?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 04:10 PM PST

    https://youtu.be/6_S4x-QeCLM

I was able to one shot him after lots of attempts at sl1, I only saw the first pillar damage and when that happened its faster to reset to the bonfire by just jumping in the lake. So I did that, and realized as I was falling to my death that I had actually caught him on a second head for the kill. I don't think this has been done before? I have only seen a select few people One shot him in the vageta challenge, mostly at the end at a relatively high SL. I figured this community would know if this was a first or not. Thanks everyone!

Siegmeyer is not fat and here's why

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 02:41 PM PST

So I been doing cosplay builds and I just got to Siegmeyer like a day ago and I put my body size the large. I went doing his quests to get his shield and I stood by him and noticed he was actually skinnier than me which means he has a average build just the armor makes him look super big. idk thought it was kinda interesting so yeah :|

    Simple Artorias Guide

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 06:01 AM PST

    1. Lock on for this fight

    2. Stay as close as possible at all times

    3. Continuously walk to the right while locking on

    4. If he jump and flips, roll back

    5. If he lunges, don't dodge just keep walking to the right

    6. He will begin to buff once he is weakened, his tell is that he will roll back 2 times. Rush him, and hit him (typically 1-3 times) until he breaks from it.

    7. Don't be greedy. Don't try to hit him more then twice in succession (weapon pending).

AHHHHHHH FRIGIN TAIL!!! WHY WONT YOU CUT!!!!

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 02:05 AM PST

Venting right now. I just finished my second playthorugh of dark souls. My goal was to get all the rare weapons this run through except the ones you need duplicate souls for BUT seaths friggin tail would not cut off. I hit it in the right spot at the base every hit and NOPE he went and died on me. Every hit was a tail hit. This really just killed my "buzz" and I ended up making things harder for myself next run cause I got upset said "Screw It" and went and killed Gwyn instead of farming chunks and weapons from the black knights in the kiln like I should have.

    *deep breath

Is there a secret to the tail chopping that I missed? I hit below where the ice spikes start. Even priscilla's tail which had a smaller hit box was easier to cut off and that made me doubly sad cause she is cute and it emotionally wrecked me to kill her.

Well whatever. Now I have to start over and go find all the friggin embers again i guess. I just need the rare weapons occult, enchanted and chaos weapons to platinum the game.

Another World First? Centipede 1 shot kill at Soul Level One

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 07:24 PM PST

    https://youtu.be/McRrFzU3dqo

Enjoy! For those interested, this was the first boss in my challenge run that I had to use the moveswap. Essentially the attack is a lightning +5 reinforced club that we swap to in the middle of a single R2 attack from the gold tracer (which swings 3 times in a single r2). This was the first boss I have had to move swap, since he has soo much health and is completely immune to fire. While it killed me to, It was so incredibly satisfying and definitely not easy! Thanks again for all the support on this run everyone!

I beat the goddamn Capra Demon

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 08:21 AM PST

A little backstory: I played this game when it was first released years ago and threw in the towel somewhere in the Undead Burg.

Fast forward to a week ago, when I found a copy of DS: Remastered for Switch used at GameStop. I decided to give it a go. I realized that my first mistake years ago was taking the Master Key as a starting gift. That probably landed me in some difficult areas.

I also never made it to the blacksmith, so I didn't see the progression that happens when you level up your weapon. Claymore +4 is a murder machine.

Progress has been slow and methodical. I realized that rolling is critical to success in boss battles. The Bell Gargoyles took a few tries, but honestly the Claymore with lightning makes that fight trivial.

What really sucked was that stupid Capra Demon. I read strategies. I tried cheesing it by tossing fire bombs over the door. Finally, I said to hell with it and just decided to square off. Not gonna lie, I had to put down the game on two separate nights because I couldn't even reach the stairs.

Then, last night, I found a path to consistently get up the stairs. Kill the dogs first, indeed. I'm not at all ashamed to say I cheesed the Capra Demon by waiting for him to climb up the stairs, falling down, and whacking him during the eternity it takes him to stand up after jumping.

But the fight ended without me getting hit. And I immediately got cursed in the depths. Fun times.

    Recommended weapons for reinforcement achievements?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 02:41 AM PST

I'm playing the remastered edition on PS4 and going for the platinum trophy. Since there's achievements for max upgrading weapons on each possible path (crystal, raw, lightning, chaos etc etc), I'm looking for recommendations on which weapons are good/fun to upgrade on each path.

I'm playing exclusively PvE and I lean more towards light/quick weapons (rocking a +15 balder side sword now), but since I'll play until NG+2 at least I'm open to all suggestions!

After many annoyances in Anor Londo I have defeated fatty mcfatser. I had help from the sun dude and a Gravelord servant(not actually sure why but I was randomly able to summon him)

And after some grinding I have also reached level 91.

Dark Souls. update part: I don't freaking remember.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 12:03 AM PST

So if any of you are following this is my first playthrough of Dark Souls. I last left off at the start of blighttown. And let me say... I should have stayed at the start of blighttown... I have not died more to gravity in any other game ever..

That trek through that puss and mold ridden cesspool was absolutely annoying. But. I made it. I made it to the bottom and explored around the swamp a little. Climbed (and fell off of) a weird elevator thingy and got shot by countless toxin arrows. Murdered and was murdered by endless swarms of stupid red fire puppies. And dodged very mean rock lifting bodybuilders.

Finally I came to a big nest of sorts where Queelag the confusion boner resided. Only took two tries but killed her and took her soul. (Sounds pretty badass) rang the bell of awakening and watched a short film.

I then continued further down to where Mr. Gonorrhea lives and proceeded to get my ass handed to me. After that I traveled all the way back to firelink shrine only to find that it's gone out? And I can't find a way to relight it. I talked to Jörmungandr the midgard serpent, and he very politely told me to go set my ass on fire. I traveled back to the blacksmith's shop right next to the now open gate and upgraded my longsword +5 to a +7.

After that I traveled back to firelink in Hopes that this fire keeper guy would be there and stumbled upon a stairway into new londo. Figured out I need to use a weird hand thingy to go any ghostbusting whatsoever and that's pretty much where I am now.

If anyone feels like I'm headed in the wrong direction feel free to leave me a tip or two. Im not specifically asking for help but any bare minimum help would be appreciated! And I'd love to hear your thoughts on my journey so far!

    A Perfectly Challenging Game

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 05:10 AM PST

You can't 'accidentally' kill a boss in these games. There's no such thing as spamming an attack and winning.
In order to win, you have to be intimately familiar with a bosses moveset, strengths, and weaknesses.
You don't notice it on the first run, but if you play through the game again, it becomes much easier, because you've already figured out all their tricks.
And in that, Dark Souls is a perfectly challenging game.

I know the Drake sword is considered bad for new players(for valid reasons) but it actually really helped me learn the combat of this game

    Posted: 25 Jan 2020 10:52 PM PST

Unpopular opinion: Dark souls 1 is the worst of the souls games.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 03:57 AM PST

I absolutely love the souls series and have played all the soulsborne games including sekiro. I don't think the game is bad but i found it hard to enjoy it. The Ornstein and Smough fight was cool and the lead up to Gwyn was pretty nifty but nothing else stood out.

I'll first list what i didn't enjoy from the game. It goes as follows. - Poor balancing. (I chose a knight and basically had to take my equipment off so i could dodge properly) - Had so many bad areas. (Lost Izalith, the sewers, blighttown, new londo ruins, etc) - Good areas jam packed with enemies. (Such as right before the ladder leading to the gargoyles) - Weapons felt terribly weak till later on.

Now the things i personally liked. - Most of the boss fights. Even the terrible ones. - The look of some areas. Anor Londo was quite pretty. - The connectivity of the areas. That was my biggest wow. - The few NPC's such as Siegmeyer.

By no means is it a bad game but in my personal opinion I felt it was nowhere near as good as others had told me. Not by a long shot. Especially the second half of the game.

    Another start.. Yet again.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2020 03:50 AM PST

Dark Souls I is nearly ten years old now. I never had so much fun on a game, so I decided to start anew, but with a little twist. I wanted to make a dex/pyro build, so I've started with the thief, with the witch ring as a gift (which was pointless apart from understanding what the Fair Lady was saying, didn't knew that at the time).

Out of the Asylum, I directly went to Blighttown, using the thief Master Key. Put Mildred to rest. Put Queelag to rest. Rang the first bell. Understood that Eggman wouldn't give up his pyro flame even if I could understand Queelag's Sister.

Took a parasite, took the flame, removed the parasite, used all my souls to upgrade it. Took the pain out of the Ceaseless discharge. Upgraded the flame a bit more. First step was done.

I've heard many stories about the greatness of the BSS, but never gave that toothpick a try. Three days of farming later, it was finally there. Fetched the Large and Very Large Embers. Dear God, I hate New Londo ruins. Especially the beehive filled with ghosts right before (soon to be dead) Ingwards..

Second step was done. Boss rush time's ahead, I wanted to ascend the pyro flame +5 before the bro's of Anor Londo. Managed to +4. It was more than enough. I finally can warp now.

Wondering if I should go the Kaathe path? Anyway, I know what I'll be doing this Sunday afternoon. Godspeed to ya'll, Chosen Undeads o/
