Today, me and my friends are starting a "You die, you pass" run of Dark Souls (Remastered)

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 12:39 AM PST

I'm super excited about this and I wanted to share it with this awesome community. I finished Dark Souls a couple of times, watched lore videos, runs and speedruns of these gmaes but what I never had the occasion to do is to share the experience with friends. A couple of weeks ago, my friends and me decided to start a campaign where every time you die you pass the controller to someone else. Have you guys ever tried this? None of them have ever played any Soulsborne games, so I look forward to see them die repeatedly. To spice things up also for me I was thinking about starting as Deprived...

    Update Dark Souls Tabletop RPG

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:30 AM PST

    Howdy!

A few of you might recall that in June 2018, I shared a download link for my free, fanmade, unofficial Dark Souls-themed Tabletop Role Playing Game.
I have currently updated the game materials (especially spell costs and boss math), and also updated the various links in the book (the Table of Contents is hyperlinked, and the social pages/community discussion links are now correct; the previous version still linked to Google Plus... '^^

I would've simply commented on the original post, but it was archived.

Anyway, you can find everything at this link!

Artorias and Sif were the only enemies I truly respected in the game.

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 03:00 PM PST

Most bosses in this game gave me a rage induced annurism. The Stray Demons AOE attacks were bullshit (though I didn't know how to dodge properly when I fought him). The Capra demon was the definition of unfair and the less said about O and S the better (Needed another player to kill them).

But when I fought Artorias I felt that for the first time I was fighting someone with true skill. He could dodge my attacks. Hit me when I healed, used different angles to attack me etc.

It took me four tries to kill him and we both landed killing blows in the fourth fight. When I bested him in combat he managed to take me down with him.

It's a fight I'll never forget and one of the best I've had in gaming.

When I saved Sif before fighting Manus it was Artorias's shield that Sif gave me that enabled me to tank his hits (I must have died 7 times fighting him). It was summoning Sif that finally enabled me to get windows of opportunity to hit him and do damage.

And when Sif started limping after Manus hit her too much (Sif is a girl right?) I actually got angry. I have a dog myself and I killed Sif too quickly for the limp animation to occur when I fought her. So when I saw Manus hurt her I went into over drive and slayed him.

I wish I could have pet Sif when she sat down after the fight cus she was a very good dog.

    Granted, other fights were harder.

Other NPC summons more helpful (Solaire).

But Knight Artorias and his Great grey wolf Sif will have a special place in my heart.

I loved the what’s your favorite message thread, so here’s another entertaining one..

What's your favorite funny media about DS, be it memes, videos, parodies, stories.. go nuts.

Mine has to be this: https://youtu.be/Y3HPkXHxS_s

I just laugh out loud throughout the whole video every single time, it's timeless. The Artorias video is a close second, because tiny plushy dog Sif!!

    Time to Celebrate

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 04:39 PM PST

I just beat O and S, bosses I've been procrastinating fighting for the first time. Time to see my prize that they were guarding. Those binoculars will finally have a use.

Are there somewhat embarassing things you do to ease the game?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 11:22 AM PST

    I, for example;

Always use Valley of Drakes entrance for Blighttown. I kill Quelaag, get fire keeper soul, open the Daughter of Chaos bonfire then return to Firelink until I get Lordvessel. (Or Undead Parish because an NPC does something and I want his armor.) I still do the Depths and Gaping Dragon and come back to do Siegmeyer's quest or simply if I need to take something.

Always get Wolf Ring and elite knight set before Capra Demon fight, put Havel's ring if I'm fatrolling and poise through dogs.

Always quit-reload to reset skeletons if I'm doing an early catacombs run for Rite of Kindling and Gravelord Sword.

%90 of the times start as Pyromancer with Master Key.

Requirements for this Illusionary wall to open

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 12:05 AM PST

I am trying to get to Dark Sun Gwyn fight and I was watching a video on how to get there and the wall just opens up for this guy while I can't hit it or roll into it to open it up. What are the requirements to get the door to open?

IgnisDei, you glorious person, thank you for making my first Dark Souls experience a good one. -Pants

Tonight was the first time I had ever played Dark Souls. It was on sale recently, and I hadn't been able to pick it up before then.

After all the "git gud"s I've seen hovering around Dark Souls, I didn't think I was going to enjoy playing the game.

I touched the most radiant summon sign I found, and it happened to be yours. You marched off in the general direction I think was correct, and conquered the toughest foes I had seen at the time like it was nothing.

I don't know who you are, if you'll see this, or even if you speak English. But thank you for being excellent.

    Edit: 'most radiant' fits better.

I had a couple of hostile crab ones before but this was a first. This one acts like a crystal lizard according to the wiki. It doesn't attack and tries to run away to disappear in the end. I found it just before picking up the Rusted Ring and followed it down.

What does ranking beyond +1 do? Does it make me stronger or something? Has this been tested?

Is there any special dialogue if you complete Artorias of the Abyss first?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:53 PM PST

I know that if you complete Artorias of the Abyss before the Sif battle, he will recognize you and hesitate attacking. Are there any other events like this where characters will recognize you?

If you could have a DLC about any pre existing piece of lore from the DS universe, what would it be?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 09:10 PM PST

The lore of DS is huge and mostly unexplored. While the dlc we got was overall quality, it usually introduced a new setting and rarely actually expands upon pre existing lore (besides Artorias).

Personally, I'd love to get a dlc taking place in the countries we never got to see like Astora, Carim or Catarina. Maybe it could feature the time travel mechanic the Artorias dlc had, allowing us to see different time periods like the age of fire and subsequent decline. It'd be interesting to see how the curse of the undead affected human settlements outside of Lordran. Since DS is kinda post-apocalyptic, I've always been fascinated in what it was like before.

    What about y'all?

    Just finished Blighttown and Quelaag

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 05:11 PM PST

This is my first time playing Dark Souls 1, and when I found myself entering Blighttown I was literally scared because all of the rumors I heard, but actually it didn't turn out to be as I imagined. I had the most trouble when a Barbarian was with a Ghoul, and that walkway that had a Ghoul and two Hot Dogs there, and the lower swamp felt much easier than the upper area, thankfully I got lots of moss from dying a lot in Darkroot Garden.

And Quelaag is so far my favourite boss fight so far in this game, her attacks are telegraphed well but still fast enough that no matter how familiar I am I still feel the tension, unlike the Gaping Dragon who was too slow that it felt too easy (and their movesets felt a little similar too).

I tried running into the Demon Ruins but the brilliantly named Ceaseless Discharge whooped me in a second, and I think I should leave that place for later, for now I got a few other options: Sen's Fortress, Darkroot Basin, Great Hollow, Valley of Drakes and New Londo Ruins, I heard that Sen's Fortress is the intended path but I am thinking of strolling around a bit.

    My introduction into the dlc

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 03:03 AM PST

I've had DS remastered for some time now, and have beaten the game on two characters. But I hadn't done the dlc on either. I recently got back into the game, deciding to build my character around the butcher knife and just going with the flow from there. Over the course of the game, my character slowly evolved into a tank build that borders on fat rolling.

I didn't know what level of difficulty to expect from the dlc but had heard lots about it. But I must have done something right as I haven't died in the pve yet. The sanctuary guardian seemed like a tough boss at first, but upon my first attack connecting and dealing a ton of damage to it, I realised that the fight wasn't going to be too hard.

Then came the forest area, I one-shot the plant farmers, but the stone Knights are tough. I found Artorius quickly, but still beat him on my first try, though his fight was really good and I liked the music.

I'm now at the Oolacile township, I haven't finished the area but I've beaten Marvellous Chester, I then tried invading because I knew that this area was a popular PvP spot. I was surprised to get in a match so quickly, but got matched with the worst possible opponent: Havel armour, mask if the mother, turtles behind a shield, backstabs for days, and lag. I didn't beat him.

Tl;dr - great dlc but gg 2 ez

Can't play with friend Dark Souls 1

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 10:23 PM PST

Hello all, I haven't been able to see his summon sign or invade him. We are both playing the 360 edition with artorias dlc on Xbox one.

Levels are close, weapons are close, and we are both human. He can't summon me in gardens, or anywhere we've tried. I also can't see any signs, but I doubt there would be any these years later.

    NAT types are both 1.
