The ladder in the Royal Wood is longer than the ladder in the Undead Burg by 1 rung.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2019 01:07 AM PST

The Royal Wood ladder has 52 rungs. The Undead Burg ladder has 51 rungs. Both are dwarfed by the ladder in the Darkroot Garden, which has 73 rungs. I dont know why I counted them. I am a mindless hollow.

I just went through some of the characters' stories and motivations. Damn, we could charisma trait in this game.

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 08:17 AM PST

    *I guess spoilers*

I felt a lot of the characters' ill fates could have been avoided if you could just talk to them or give them a hug. This is what I kind of dislike in Dark Souls. I wish our character would be more prominent. Even among fellow hollows our character seems very insignificant even if you can beat Ornstein and Smough.

    This game is a masterpiece

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:52 PM PST

Just started playing dark souls remastered, I'm stuck on Ornstein and Smaug but man do i love this game. There's so many little secrets and there's something about it barely having a story (rare dialogue and cutscenes) but just enough to make it eerie. I honestly cannot even describe how great this game is besides saying it's truly a masterpiece and more of an experience than a game.

    Thank You

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 01:29 PM PST

To whoever was kicking about in the chamber before the gaping dragon, thank you. I had no Estus left, and had no clue what I was in for. You even cut off the tail so I could get the axe. While I may have looked cowardly, I had no estus and had run out of heal miracles. I love the online community in this game!

Faces in the First Flame's Smoke and a Question about Souls

    Images linked.

I beat Dark Souls for the first time [sad confetti fanfare] and sent my boy through the bonfire. I understand that DS2 says that souls power the bonfire, and I also understand the curse is to generate fuel (as we offer both souls and humanity to the flame to level and kindle), but if DS1 has the first undead kindling of the flame (Gwyn being the first kindling in general), who owns those faces?

So in our casual modern day irl 'lore' everyone has one soul. It's you. You are a soul, you have a body. In Dark Souls, that doesn't hold true. You stab a dude and get 80 souls. Souls aren't attached to personhood. Humanity might be attached to personhood, but we meet at least two very hollow undead who are very much people (the merchants) and at least one rad skeleton who's definitely a person. And a talking cat... But Manus, the people in Oolacile, and the humanity mobs who should (by all accounts) be filled with humanity don't retain much if any of their personhood.

So if souls are not people, and humanity is not people, what are the faces in the flame?

I've just started darksouls remastered, my first ever darksouls game. It's been difficult, challenging. And I love it. I've never been so determined to keep trying and go further. I played for 6 hours today all trying to get past the same boss. I still have not. I will do it tomorrow!

Why do all Soulsborne elevators have a pit below them?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 10:12 AM PST

    Usually a bottomless pit.

My guess is that it's a design trick to avoid the exceptional state where an elevator collides with someone standing under it, to avoid clipping and possible glitches.

People way overexaggerate how difficult Dark Souls is

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 01:38 PM PST

I feel like a lot of people avoid this game because it has that reputation of being insanely difficult. It definitely is a time consuming game (first playthrough for most people takes 50 - 100 hours to beat) but it's not actually that difficult.

I'm trash at video games in general yet I've beaten Dark Souls like 10 times. If I play you in a game of Madden, Fifa, Chel, or 2k I will get wrecked. If I try playing a game like Fortnite or Call of Duty I will die over and over again and get 0 kills. Seriously I'm really bad at video games yet I can still beat Dark Souls.

Out of all the bosses in the game, Ornstein & Smough, Artorias, and Bed of Chaos are the only hard bosses. Gwyn, Nito, and Manus are a bit challenging, but nothing crazy.

There are definitely a few bottlenecks in the game, like Tomb of the Giants, New Londo Ruins, and generally figuring out where to go at the beginning, but overall Dark Souls is not very hard. Super Mario games on the gameboy were honestly more difficult than Dark Souls, and I beat that shit as a little kid.

Also, From's other games like Bloodborne, Sekiro, and DS3 are substantially more difficult than DS1/DSR. I think a lot of that is because of how slow everything in DS1 is, and how the combat is much more methodical. I feel like for DS3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro you need to have really good controller skills, whereas in DS1 you just have to figure out the right tactics.

Btw I'm not saying this as a bad thing, I think Dark Souls basically has the perfect level of difficulty. Not too hard, not too easy.

    Stuck in Sen’s Fortress

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:34 PM PST

So... I elected to use Sen's skip to get into the fortress while the gate's still locked, with intentions to kill the Darkmoon leader early in the game. All went smoothly until I realized I can't warp back to Firelink. I don't have Fall Control either so I can't get out of the fortress as usual.

What should I do??? Is there a way to restore saves on PC, or a reverse skip I don't know of? Or is it gonna be faster to just restart the whole game? I'm sure I'm not the only person who's ran into this dilemma.

    First time playing DS and...

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 09:26 AM PST

Holy crap this game is absolutely amazing. I nabbed all 3 from the Steam sale and I'm starting with the Remaster. So far I've played around 4 hours and have only gotten past the Taurus Demon (thanks to someone who left a plunging message, I beat it on the first try) and ran past the bridge dragon.

My question is, how long would it take to beat the game for an absolute noob? I can't count how many times I've already died to some random skeletons, and it doesn't feel like I've gotten really far for 4 hours.

I can FINALLY embarass myself-Imean play online!

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 02:46 PM PST

I recently bought the PC version after playing through on Ps3/Ps4 where NAT issues have prevented me from summoning/being summoned. I was SO incredibly hyped when I saw those sparkly white signs, I immediately summoned the first person I could find in the Parish!

...and ran straight to my death. So that was a good opening statement.

First Black Knight in Undead Burg

    Posted: 02 Dec 2019 05:42 PM PST

First of all, yes I'm new to DS, but I've already beaten Bloodborne, and ever since I've been wanting to play it, Black Friday sale, long story short, I can't for the life of me beat the first Black Knight (the one before the 2nd boss fight), I've try rolling, and kinda works, but can't really parry or backstab him. Any tips for a DS noob? Should I grind? He's killing me quite easily. Or am I supposed to skip him for now?
