Playing as a sorcerer is hard

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 05:44 AM PST

I admit this being the hardest playthrough I've ever tried.im naturally a melee player who likes to be to the boss's face to deal damage. Good reflexes, good rolls etc. But I never had played as a spellcaster, especially a sorcerer and I gave it a try. The amount of times I died are out of the charts, even in easy bosses like pursuer and ruin sentinels. Low agility, low health, low stamina eyc along with the fact that this playstyle requires you to play from range makes it a shit ton hard for me to get used to it. I have raged a lot and I haven't even gotten past huntsman's corpse yet(cuz I keep trying to kill the horse instead of the skeletons). But, even though all those things that pull me back, all the souls I lost due to not having I frames to properly roll, all the rage, they are starting to be worth it since I have finally started to improve, gain some levels on health, endurance and adaptability, along with intelligence and faith. I have gotten myself the sunset stuff and the hexer set and I use soul arrow and great soul arrow and looking for a good 3rd spell, since I can have 1 more. I applaud all of you tho who have the patience to get through an entire hard game as a sorcerer

Just beat Fume Knight after 13 tries ish. Game glitched, I feel cheated.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 12:36 PM PST

So I made it to the Fune Knight! It was the first time I've encountered him but remembered everyone talking about how great of a boss he was. Man, it was amazing. 12 deaths in and still wanted to keep going. A buddy was also at the same spot so I summoned him in (mistake) and off we went.

The lag was bad enough that his second phase didn't start until he had maybe 5 hits left, he was a glorified punching bag and now he's dead.

There was no triumphant swearing, joyful hate, none of what makes the game amazing. I just killed one of the highest rated bosses ever and it feels gross.

I don't really have a point here, I just wanted to get that out. Thanks to the guys who were cheering me on in the other thread!

What are your character naming conventions?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 02:17 AM PST

I primarily have two kind of naming conventions:

"X the Y," where Y is a characteristic the character is known for, e.g. the Igni the Burnt, and Ragna the Cold.

"X of Z," where Z is a location in the World of Dark Souls, e.g. Ada of Astora, and Ewald of Mirrah.

I tend to follow the in-game naming conventions of Ancient Western European names (Celtic, English, Germanic, Scandinavian, etc.) and I try to make the Y and Z relevant to how I build the character. If I want to make a knight-like character may use Mirrah "the land of knights," if I make a Sorcerer I might use characteristics like the Pale, Sage or Wise (things that in-game pertain to sorcery).

Dark Souls II in particular makes this tricky because you can only have up to 14 characters (the other games allow for 16). But I've managed to work around it.

Do you guys have any particular naming conventions for your characters?

Why does such a great game have such a bad reputation among Souls fans?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 02:46 AM PST

Oddly, this is my favorite Souls game behind Bloodborne. The NPCs were generally better designed. The world and concept were equally as well (at least) as DS1. I get that the lore seems disjointed from 1 and 3, but as a stand alone game it's pretty solid!

I regrettable avoided this game because of all the bad rep given by the other communities. Glad I am getting to finally play through it now.

    Anti-Cheat mod?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 10:42 AM PST

Just wondering if there is a mod like PVP Watchdogs for ds3 that helps to mitigate the amount of hackers that you come across in your playthroughs? I want to buy the game for PC but not sure if its worth it if online is rampant with armour breakers and game crashers

    Don’t know where to go!

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 01:24 PM PST

So I killed the last giant. And I killed the pursuer in the optional fight. But now I don't know where to go... I also killed the dragon rider and have gone to no-mans-warf and the huntsman area. But I'm so stuck cuz this game is so weird compared to ds3. Heck even ds1 didn't give me this trouble

    Smelter

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 03:02 AM PST

I consider myself pretty good at dark souls in general. I seem to have less difficulty with certain bosses that most people typically regard as hard. But both of those god damn smelter demons absolutely destroy me! I honestly consider them to be the most difficult bosses in the series. Am i just fighting them wrong or something? No strat or armor/ring/item composition seems to have any meaningful impact on my ability to fight these cunts. Why dont i hear more bitching about them? Is it just me? Im open to admitting that maybe im not as good as i think i am, its just that to me they seem WAY harder to defeat than any other boss.

Can you recommend me some fun PvE build?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 11:26 AM PST

I know that fun is subjective so i will share my fun builds from other soulsborne games.

Dark Souls 1: full fat rolling tank build was a very unique experience in gaming. full armour huge shield and sword. felt pretty inique at taht time.

Bloodborne: Arcane / Bloodtinge builds where very unique because you use your own health as a resource for hunter tools or added weapon damage. it was a fun twist.

    Dark Souls 3:

1.Build i am most proud off: I call it Ashen Estus One. from the beginning i was using only ashen estus ( no healing estus) i had miracles to heal me. and because of all that mana resoirce i had i could spamm a lot of spells and it was a pure joy to play entire game + NG+ with such build.

    1. burst build - using wolf curved sword(on a back and dual sellswords as a main weapon), and both pontiff eyes rings to mimic bloodborne experience in a way. the faster you attack the more damage you do (in bursts) and regain heath back. was a ton of fun.

Maybe you have some cool builds to share for dark souls 2. or what builds you had the most fun with?

    How are the keyboard controls?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 09:35 AM PST

I bought this last sale, which I quickly refunded because the tooltips were displayed in gamepad mode even though I only have a KBM plugged in.

I'm willing to give this a second chance now. Did it become a problem later on?

    Help

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 09:04 AM PST

So I'm trying to get to the 3rd bonfire in Drangleic castle. I keep on clearing the enemies in the room but it won't open. Is there a reason for this, or do I just need to kill them some more?
