Attention chosen undead now be wary tis not a meme but a post of rejoice. On this day (24/12/19) for the first time ever I hath slain ornstein and smough currently I am on my way to frampt with the lordvessel. My point being dark souls players all who are stricken by pain and anguish from these bosses always know that there is a resolve just keep pushing and you'll kill the enemy and surpass the challenge.

    Merry Christmas chosen undead(s).

Painted World - Right Place, Right Time

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 10:08 PM PST

New to Dark Souls. First playthrough. I beat Sen's Fortress, watched the Iron Golem fall off a cliff after poking it a couple times, and could not beat the sentinel at the start of Anor Londo. So I decided to backtrack and get better. I went and killed Havel, the Hydra, Sif, and the Stray Demon. I even killed Pinwheel and managed to escape (was NOT ready for that catacombs trap - it took several hours to successfully find my way out).

So here I am in Anor Londo, a Pyromancer w/25 Vit, 25 End, and 25 Dex. A +10 Iato and +10 Pyromancer Flame to boot. I trudge through the first part of Anor Londo, scrape by the gargoyle and find a mysterious mural on the wall. I methodically dispatch all the men in white one by one and finally approach the painting. "Examine", the game suggests. I examine, and in Super Mario 64 fashion I jump headfirst into an alternate world.

Holy crap was it easy. I stumbled into this place with probably the perfect build at this stage of the game. I got lucky.

After a couple of runs through the first building I achieved enough souls to bring my Dex up to 26. I started to one-hit every hollow and two-hit every bloated toxic hollow. Then the fun began. I obtained Flame Whip earlier in my long and treacherous quest, and here it really showed its worth. This Flame Whip felled phalanx creatures in the courtyard by the dozens. Literally killed four at a time consistently. At 500 souls each, I spent maybe 30 minutes farming and skyrocketed from Soul Level 52 to 62. I got TEN points in dex from just a couple of hours stumbling into this benevolent trap. Now it's time to go back to Peach's Castle.

Dark Souls is sometimes very generous.

    Daughters of Ash Worth It?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 12:59 AM PST

I love Dark Souls. It's one of my favorite singleplayer games of all time. The thing is that I first bought it on Xbox so when I got a computer, I didn't buy it again, because I already have the game so why bother. Dark Souls 2 and 3 I did buy on computer.

Recently I heard about the DoA mod and wanted to know if anyone had played it and if it really was that big of a deal?
I want to play it, but I also don't want to pay for Dark Souls again just to play a mod.

I sort of understand how the blacksmith works but I have a +5 Black Knights Sword and want to get it higher. What upgrade path should I take and what do I need to get there?

After countless hours, I completed my first playthrough of DS Remastered. I feel really good but kinda bad also because I didn't want my journey through Lordran to end. Can somebody please enlighten me on what there is to do after completing the game?

    NEW SPEEDRUN?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 09:39 PM PST

Okay so I've been reluctant to post this anywhere as I wanted to be the first one to do this, but I've tried doing runs numerous times where when you pick up your first items (and all items picked up after that) you don't then press x (or a , whatever you play on) to take what you've picked up off of your screen- being an almost blind run when it fills with items, the weapon, shield, estus and two keys , everything in the starting area can fill your screen

The great thing is, they carry on through deaths and cutscenes, so when you fly to firelink or anor Londo, I had done this run all the way up to O&S but died and gave up, I have since sold my PS3 which I played on but I do plan on getting the remastered on PS4 and trying again (currently playing through bloodborne at the moment though.

But yeah, definitely havent come across anyone doing a run like this and would like to see it tried out in the community

    Neat little glitch I found.

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 01:08 PM PST

If you block and sprint while running through an area where your movement is slowed, such as the swamp in Blighttown, hitting the jump button will drain your stamina without doing anything. Since you never actually jumped, you can spam this button and drain your stamina instantly.

Gargoyle helm or Elite knight helm?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 04:02 AM PST

Since i can't upgrade the Gargoyle helm right now at all (im only at the depths, i think i even found the boss room), is the elite knight helm better? Do the upgrades of the EKH outweigh the base Gargoyle helm?

Wish I could turn back time...

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 03:35 AM PST

After 90 challenging hours, filled with dread, fun and excitement I've finished my first Dark Souls playthrough.

Started to play because I don't have much choice with my low end pc + I've randomly read a post on this sub about a guy who was first timer and went to Catacombs straight away and got stuck - in many rpgs catacombs are like the first instance you would do; Apparently it wasn't good choice and I was excited that you can make bad decision and the game won't neccessarly tell you that to some point.

I've never played any Souls game before and as a new player I also wanted to play fairly blind (except basic mechanics and hidden/dlc locations - wanted to do most possible without spoiling in first run). I was struggling with Stray Demon and Capra for so long I was considering to give up. After reaching Depths, falling to Basilisc and getting cursed I was feeling too anxious to continue, but I followed the advice given here and stopped to care about dying.

    And I've breezed through it.

Entering Blightown gave me uneasy feeling but I died more to falling than actual enemies.

Sen's Fortress is a summary of platformer games for me. Just patience and good timing. Falling to death few times again, died to heart attack after accidentaly droping down to see Titanite Demon in my face.

First time seeing Anor Londo - something I will definetely remember. Passed the famous Archers on second try. I returned their arrows shortly after.

There were many interesting locations but the one I loved the most was New Londo Ruins. I was actually terrified as fuck after seeing the bottom. And for sure I never expected anything like 4 kings fight! I mean you get ring to get to ABYSS but do you really expect it to be literal like this? I did not so I died fast by surprise; was too overwhelmed by the whole scenario I was in (yeah, overwhelmed by nothing). Genueily super exciting lore piece for me.

The game as a whole teaches you a lot but also forces you to learn fast. Once I relaxed myself enough to carry on I was just pushing forward (not stupidly though) and killed many bosses on 1/2 try (Nito, Seath, all dlc bosses) by being stress free (as much as you can be stress free in ToG or DLC Abyss for the first time lol) and trying to play it 'smart'.

After finishing Dark Souls I felt completely opposite than at the begining of my playthrough, felt it became too easy at some point. This doesn't mean I'm pro souls player now, it means I got gud to some extent and it felt really, really rewarding as a total noob to the genre.

True that gaming won't be the same after playing DS, for sure in my case. The difficulty, level design (wow to all the connections), no warping for big part of the game and the fact that you have to look for lore by yourself most of the time is also something completely different from what I know.

Amazing journey, wish I could forget it so I could feel it for the first time again.

PS. I died to O&S at least 15 times alone and 10 times with Solaire. Now I'm trying beat ng+ and plan to finish them solo because I do not feel complete like this...

PS2. Nice to see so many people still play it for the first time. I feel like Dark Souls is at this point such a classic that even a person who wouldn't normally try it give it a chance and it pays off.

PS3. Sorry for long post and thanks for being such a helpful community!

I know this topic has been beaten like a dead horse more than Bart Simpsons neck. But why do people always compare this game to skyrim?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 06:55 PM PST

I see the two as complete polar opposites; they're like two different forms of media.

Skyrim is a classic book, you read it once, you understand the story, you're really into it until it ends. And then it's over, and you move on. Maybe you'll come back to it, talk to a friend about it.

But dark souls is like a poem. You want to experience it over and over again, and interpret it with different meanings. You want to delve deeper into every little detail and make sure it fits with the rest of them. It's open ended, and once you find what you think it means, it's like a puzzle is solved.

I accidentally made it so I need to find a new grinding spot

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 12:23 AM PST

So I made it to dark wood forest or whatever it's called and have been using the NPCs (mostly the spell caster) for soul farming. I decided to go past him and see how many of the hunters I could kill and then found a talking cat and joined the covenant. I mostly said yes (not knowing I couldn't attack the rest or the NPCs) because I like cats plus it's gigantic, it talks, and I've learned you don't piss off anything in dark souls. This was mostly just a rant

Wouldn't it be cool if you could name an ascended weapon?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 01:10 PM PST

Kind of like in Skyrim? For example, you ascend your longsword to a fire longsword, and you're given the option to name it something sweet like Flame Tooth. Any thoughts?

Tips for the Hellkite Dragon in DS1

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 04:06 PM PST

So this is my first time playing Dark Souls ( So if I'm doing something wrong that's why) and I've seen a lot of people prok him by shooting him with a bow and arrow and then having him land and doing this a couple dozens times, but my Dex is a 12 rn and it takes 14 to use a bow and at this point it would take about 18,000 souls just to level twice (I'm level 39) are there any other tips on how to get him down or should I just grind for the souls? Thanks.

Did I have the additional content for 5 years without knowing?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 04:23 PM PST

So today I returned to playing the game on the used vanilla ps3 version I got from gamestop 5 years ago while visiting the US, and for the first time I played as a mage. But when I got to the blacksmith of Annor Londo and saw the boss weapons, one of them required the soul of Manus and I lost it. If it was a vanilla version then it wouldn't have shown that.

I am absolutley confused as I was convinced it was a plain version. Thanks for reading

    Nitos next but...

    Posted: 23 Dec 2019 06:35 PM PST

Okay, I've killed Seath, the bed of chaos, and the four kings, and I have to kill nito but he's the only one I don't know how to get to, is it the same place where you enter his covenant earlier in the game?

Edit: he's dead ladies and gents

At what point during your first play through of DS did you have the same sentiment? Mine was dealing with getting from the Undead Burg bonfire all the way to Andre. I couldn't tell you how many times I died during that trek. Looking back on my young naive self is funny.
