Dark Souls To the phantom who watched me kill the Taurus Demon.

To the phantom who watched me kill the Taurus Demon.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 10:28 AM PST

This journey started when I couldn't find any hollows to kill. Every corner I turned, you were there, kicking corpses off your blade one by one. But you were there for me, and you knew what needed to be done. Before I could even reach the staircase, my pockets filled themself with Twinkling Titanite. I used the last of my Gold Pine Resin and made for the fog.

I checked behind me, and you were already headed for the ladder, I patiently waited up ahead, as you cleared out the recon. However, it was at that moment I realized you wouldn't be joining. You pointed at me with approval, did a little spin, let out a jump for joy, and that's when it all revealed itself. You weren't baiting me.

    No, you believed in me.

You knew deep down in your heart that if I believed in myself as much as you did, I could do this. After all you did for me, the least I could do was see it to the end. Hope surged through my veins, as I stepped forward and called to the beast. Sword at the ready, imbued with the sparks of newfound optimism I faced the Demon. With valor and finesse I struck, and you cheered me on. Despite our distance, I truly wasn't alone. I never was.

The brute fell before me, and you were there by my side to applaud me. You set aside your unmatched prowess to allow me this one rite of passage. And you were always behind me in case things took a turn.

Thank you for believing in me. Long may the sun shine.

    Sir Kirk, Knight of Thorns

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:36 PM PST

So in an interview Kirk was confirmed to be a Chaos Servant. We been knew. And this might be a common theory already, but the theory I've heard was he was just farming souls for the Fair Lady.

But this is my two cents.

You meet Kirk FIRST in the Depths. Before you can unlock Blighttown and typically before the Gaping Dragon. Then again after you've killed Queladd (Ceaseless Discharge), and lastly right before the Bed of Chaos along side one of the Sisters. So my thoughts are that isn't farming humanity through invasion. There are better places to do that. No, he's protecting what's left of the Fair Lady's family. Maybe he killed Quelaag in his world, and maybe he didn't, but there's something that keeps him guarding whoever is left.

And when he fails the last time... You find a body (presumably his) with his gear near the Fair Lady's bonfire. He only gives up when he fails to save the rest of them.

I suspect if he served out of love for JUST the Fair Lady (as so many of us do lol*) then he would keep fighting until she was healthy, but he invades fellow chaos servants and only gives up when the last Sister is killed (except Quelana). I suspect he's driven by guilt.

TLDR: Kirk isn't farming humanity, he's protecting the rest of the Izalith family.

*Side note edit: let's be real, we all join Chaos Servants either because we love the Fair Lady or we love Solaire.

    May The Flames Guide The

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 05:51 PM PST

After many months I have finally finished this game. Not that it took me months to finish the game. I have been sitting at the Gwyn bonfire for months. Why?

A dear friend of mine got me into Dark Souls last year. I never touched the game as I was more of a FPS kind of guy and played casual open world games like Elder Scrolls, and Legend of Zelda. He bought the game and encouraged me to try it. We quickly learned just how difficult it was. Especially me. Man, was I God awful at the game. It took me 2 hours just to get through the damn Asylum, and another 3 just to beat Taurus Demon.

Once we got the White Soapstone though, we went through every area taking turns at every bonfire. Discovering the benefits of fast rolling, greatshields, and a little planning ahead. We worked together and our relationship was strengthened by the desire to lay our weary bones at the next Bonfire.

I remember when one of us wanted to quit the other one would yell, "Don't you dare go Hollow!" And when we ran out of Humanity we dropped our spares for each other, sometimes we would farm Rats together just to continue on.

The night we were to conquer Gwyn together was the night I no longer had this friend of mine due to a tragic accident. He didn't make it. In his name I have walkthroughed many newbies through the game. I have protected players from countless invaders. I have shown secrets, dropped items, and cleared areas for AFKs but today though, today was different. I had been helping a fellow player and redditor through his first playthrough for the past month. He would wait for me for days at a boss fog just so I could watch the cutscenes with him. Like many times before I lead him to Gwyn's Fog Gate and black crystaled out.... moments later he PM'd me saying he couldn't do this fight alone. That he needed help. And his requests struck a cord with me. As my friend from long ago frequently said those same words when I wanted to lay my controller down after a boss whooped our asses for an entire night. I realized that my friend would want me to continue. He would want me to finish the game. And so, I picked up my sword and shield entered the fog and raged against the Dying Light, Gwyn.

RIP my friend. And may he never go Hollow in the next life.

So will Kaathe appear after I beat the Four Kings? I already put the Lordvessel in the altar. Will he appear? Or will he appear only if I haven't placed the Lordvessel?

Painted World of Ariamis is incredible

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:22 AM PST

Just beat Priscilla on my second playthrough and I'm so satisfied with this little detour I took in the painting. I completely missed it on my first playthrough and wasn't expecting such a fleshed out area with multiple enemies I hadn't seen before and some great loot as well. It kinda baffles me that Painted World, an optional area, seems way more finished than Lost Izalith, a mandatory area. My only complaint would be that Priscilla was extremely easy. But overall 10/10 would get 1 shot by a wheel skeleton in the bottom of the well again.

Also, farming those clumped up blob guys with Great Chaos Fireballs was extremely satisfying.

New Londo Ruins map design overview

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:03 PM PST

    https://imgur.com/gallery/snlmpsi

Was playing around with the map viewer to see how exactly New Londo fit with the Valley and Blighttown, spent 15 minutes making some little images to show how the area is designed, what is affected by draining the water and all the areas intertwined. (Would've posted this as an image link but it is disabled)

Mostly surprised at how small it is from above. There's really only 2 buildings and some upper walkways in between, and later some squishy ground down below after you drain the water. I also hadn't really realized the big cathedral area you pass through right before the Abyss entrance is below the same roof Ingward stands on. Wonder what the big gates opposite the main New Londo gate in the Valley would've led to.

    Demon Centipede disappeared

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:46 PM PST

I was fighting against Demon Centipede and expected the fight go in same way as it always does. However it performed a grab attack and munched me, and then it disappeared. Like he was nowhere in the arena. I got souls and items after ten or so seconds though.

Did he clip under the floor or what?

    Wow... What a game...

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 03:20 PM PST

So I just beat Dark Souls for the first time and... wow... this was fantastic. I'm definitely going to play more in the future (probably as a side game while I'm focusing on something else.) This game had some nice memorable moments like getting revenge on Lautrec for killing the firekeeper at Firelink, going to jail in Duke's Archives, and realizing I sent Laurentius to his death (I miss that dude T-T) This first playthrough has truly been a great experience that I will never forget...

This game gives me more confidence than it should.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 05:22 AM PST

After struggling with Ornstein and Smough for over 2 weeks, I defeated them solo and proceeded to pop off screaming with tears of joy for 5 minutes. The next day I decimated Dukes Archives and the crystal caves. After that I went and killed Sif in one go, only getting hit once. Then i went to Hell and defeated the Firesage Demon and the centipede thing is less than a 40 minute difference in time. Basically this game makes me feel amazing and gives me that confidence to power through like crazy.

    Odd Invaders

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:26 PM PST

I think at some point most of us want to play a weird invader. What sort of odd invader do YOU want to play? What's the weirdest invader you've had?

Already when I invade gravelords, I spend most of my time dodge rolling around and just being a massive nuisance, but I want to play an invader that wears various NPC armors and just... casually follows the host or dodges their attacks without attacking on my own. I am thinking of picking out an edgy name like "Nightmare" so I can throw on any NPC's gear and be annoying. The real nightmare is Solaire with the sunlight maggot following you around amirite?

    An odd and Beautiful invasion

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:22 AM PST

As I, Jamwich II, made my way through the undead burg, I heard a chime. I was being invaded. I stood, back against the wall amd in the distance I heard... A gate open. My phantom attacker had opened the gate to the undead church, unlocking the shortcut before i had gotten there. He appeared in a doorway, mask of the mother on his face and spear of the demon in his hand. But he did not attack. He began to role about the place, doing flips. Flabergasted at his non hostility, i put my sword away and bowed. He bowed as well. Then we began to smack the shit out of each other with our bare hands. Seconds from death and losing all my humanity, i fled a few feet and began to pray, hoping to die with honor. The phanto then walked to me, dropped a boss soul on the ground, and promptly flung himself off a cliff. Thanks, Phantom. For everything.

Is there any point in having too much strength?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:39 AM PST

I've been planning to make a build With Black Knight Greataxe 2h

I've used MugenMonkey site to calculate stuff, but what I've noticed, when I have 40 str, I have 625 ar, and when I have 24 str, I have 602 ar, which is only 23 ar of a difference, is it just a number, or that actually matters?

    Help with this game’s combat?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 02:15 PM PST

I came here being used to bloodborne's faster-pace, and in this game the combat is more difficult because I can't dodge nearly as fast as I can in Bloodborne. I'm currently stuck on the Bell Gargoyles.

Where to start if I have zero interest in lore?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:03 PM PST

I love Sekiro and its gameplay/mechanics, so I wanted to try a Dark Souls game.

I have no interest in Sekiro's lore and I don't foresee being interested in the Dark Souls world.

So should I still start at DS1? Or is there there a superior option mechanically and gameplay-wise?

I think I lost the key to the Oolacile blacksmith?!

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:04 PM PST

After searching for a while, I looked into it and found that the key was in the mimic in the township; the same mimic that died by falling over the edge. When I came back later to collect the item, I got a "very good!" Carving. Am I fucked? I can't get into the blacksmith's room? Thanks!

    Help with Scorched Contract installation

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 08:01 PM PST

I can not get this to work at all! I've started with fresh installs, unpacked with the UnpackDarkSoulsForModding tool. Unzipped Scorched Contract folders. The first time I just put into DATA folder and unzipped there. Didn't work. Then I read that you have to put the files in the folders individually. Did that too. My issie is that everytime I do this, when I run the executable nothing happens. The doesn't load and I can't see it in my processes anywhere either. Can someone help me with where I might be going wrong? Thanks in advance!
