    Gottem.

Lmao, so basically, like a week ago I made a post talking about how I was finding the game easy, but now, I'm stuck at The Shrine of Amana or whatever the place is called and it's kicking my sorry ass. The first stage was easy, but then I got to the area with all the casters with homing spells, which, admittedly, aren't hard to dodge but they attacks from super far away and often more than one at a time and it's fucking me up haha. Then there's the sneaky guys in the water, as well as the danger of falling of the edge entirely. Also the more optional enemies in the area like the troll and dragonrider are pretty tough for some reason and I'm just generally having a tough time there.

Not complaining, I'm glad the game is able to challenge me. But I'd still appreciate some tips!

    Pharros Lockstones are great!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:09 AM PST

They give me Tomb Raider vibes, nothing comes close to the feeling you get for unlocking a path or secrets with one of those things. They awaken curiosity and give exploration more depth.

    Anyone else feel the same?

So I've got a theory about illusory walls in ds2 (spoilers)

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 03:41 PM PST

Hello fellow skellies, I have a theory about illusory walls. So about 3 weeks ago if you'd asked me if I thought there was a reason why ds2 chose to do illusory walls differently, I would've told you there wasn't one, they just did. Until I came across a lore video on YouTube as to why there were illusory walls at all in ds1, (other than its fun to uncover secrets within a game)and it shocked me. Because it made sense, and it really again solidified my love for the game. And the love was stemmed in this: even if the reason wasn't so logical and obvious, the fact that you can choose to see things this way and it fit, well that's awesome.

So the video basically said this: illusory walls were put there by gwyndolin to hinder the chosen undead and/or hide things the gods wanted hidden away.

And that's when everything literally clicked, no seriously there was an audible clicking of some old rusty gears emanating from my the dome that is my skull.
Gwyndolin is the master of illusions. He practically cast a day illusion over the murky twilight ANOR LONDO. He conjured an image of his sister (highlighting her best but confusing aspects) to hoodwink the hazy mind of the undead. He invoked a vagina in the place where his massive dong hung. Wait what

And if that doesn't convince you then take a look at the things that lie behind illusory walls. The great hollow rests behind not one but two (naughty naughty gwyndolin) illusory walls all the way at the bottom of blighttown. Now you're thinking we'll why would ol mangina (wanna go to a club where people wee on each other? The ) hide the great hollow. Well it leads to ash lake, otherwise known as the dragon cemetery where the corpses of the stony scale dragons now lie in mounds of sand, otherwise known as the place that hides one of the surving ancient dragons who allows us to join a covenant. So to hide the atrocities that his father committed and/or to stop us from feeling any sympathy for the enemy/cast any doubt on the great pilgramage.

So you're still not convinced, well... Now think to Ds2 where the walls are not so illusory anymore. They are an interactable part of the wall, which moves aside. Or in other words, they are in a time where the events of ds1 are so far in the past most of the events about ds1 god's have been forgotten. So gwyndolin is no longer in present day drangleic. only the memory of his illusory walls are a thing of legend, which someone has imitated. (say by a phaaros the vagabond who also helps the weary traveller with his lock contraptions) after all arent the themes that interweave drangleic about cycles and imitation?

Any way. Maybe I've just smoked too much. Love y'all, peace out.

What version of Dark Souls 2 on Steam contains all DLC and the best version of the base game (graphic overhaul)?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 11:56 AM PST

Steam sale started and it's long overdue that I play Ds2 and Ds3, so I'm gonna buy them, however Ds2 is very confusing, alot of disjointed dlcs, 2 versions of the base game etc.

    Do infusions and buffs stack?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 11:42 AM PST

Right now I'm rocking a dark puzzling sword and buffing it with dark. Am I wasting potential damage by having both dark infuse and dark buff or do they stack?

Crown of the Old Iron King appreciation

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:14 PM PST

I played pretty much all the Soulsborne games including Sekiro, just have not done the Ashes and Ringed City DLCs.

I have, on numerous reddit posts vented my frustrations about the gameplay mechanics of SOTFS. In my opinion with the weird hit boxes, ridiculous ganks and the fact that without high Adaptability, you pretty much get punished for using Estus Flasks, DS2 was the lowest rated of the Soulsborne games for me.

Having said that. I just reached the Crown of the Old Iron King DLC and would have to say that Brume Tower is one of the best designed stages in the entire series (it reminds me a bit of Firekeep Shrine of DS1 for some reason).

More so, I must say that while I still have trouble beating the Fume Knight, he is the only boss in a long time in the Dark Souls series that made me keep coming back for more punishment.

Crown of the Old Iron King is probably the beat DLC so far for a Dark Souls game.

Just finished DS2, and I am a little bit disappointed.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:57 PM PST

A few weeks ago I finished DS1, my fist souls play through ever and I completely fell in love. The variety of bosses, the interconnected world, the natural progression and although convoluted, the story was there if you took your time digging. I have been playing video games for 30+ years and DS1 sails right into the top 10 of all-time greats. So you could say my anticipation for DS2 was pretty high. Now - the game is in no way bad, but I have a few gripes with it.

    1. Wildly inconsistent difficulty curve. I felt there was no real progression. It was a total crap-shoot if it was going to be tooth and nail thing or a chill one shot.
    2. Somewhat hard to discover progression route. More than once I finished an area and simply had no idea where to go next. I actually had to resolve to a google search at one point. Maybe I expected the interconnected world from DS1, but this felt more spread out.
    3. Boss padding. Poor dragon rider got his booty spanked all over this world. Totally unnecessary.
    4. Gank-city. I felt that some areas were a chore to plow through. Droves of trash and ambushes. It was actually a relief to get to the boss so you could relax and have some fun. I think there is a fundamental flaw in game design where traversing a level is harder than the actual boss fight.
    5. Poison statues - f**k em.
      *******SPOILER ALERT******
    6. Nashandra was a total disappointment and ended the game on a sour note for me. I played a pure dex melee build so I couldn't really get close, but I managed to totally spoil the crescendo of the game by slowly strafing around the room and pew pew with a Crossbow +3 and some magic bolts. Not the epic fight I was looking for.

Is Dark Souls 2 any good on the Surface Book?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:03 PM PST

Hey All. So for the longest time I've been a Mac gamer, as it was the only computer I had for years, but lately I've been interested in building up a Windows gaming library on GOG. However, as stated above, the only other computer that I have at this time is a Surface Book. Would a game like Dark Souls 2 still be playable on this particular model, or would I be better off waiting until I got a better computer to handle gaming? I know that it's only limited to Steam at this time, and I would ideally prefer a DRM free copy, but if it's still a worthwhile experience I'd be willing to get it there again. Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Is a Dark Focused Buld good?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 11:19 AM PST

I ask this because as far as i know DLC enemies are hard to fight, they are a real pain, and they seem to care little about magic types of damage, thats what someone told me... I want to play with Sunset staff, chime of want, and crypt blacksword, without using resonant hexes except for an occasional Lifedrain Patch for bossing, i also want to ask about the dark pyromancies, they do dark damage, so, is there any difference between Dark Pyromancy flame and regular flame? Is it worth the full hollow state and the ring space used in the ring to keep me 75% health?

    All About the Tseldora Set

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:47 AM PST

    Hey everyone :)

Background: I'm a newer player here, on my first playthrough of DS2 (and of any Souls game). I finished Brightstone Cove Tseldora recently and I learned about the Tseldora Set, which gives a pretty significant increase to soul income. I have already been using my Covetous Gold Serpent Ring, which I love for the added soul income. I have decided to go with a lightweight build using the Tseldora armor and I'm experimenting with a variety of lightweight weapons, having a grand ol' time. Basically I'm trying to be a richmon with lots of soul levels so that I can try all the different magic schools and various playstyles of the game.

Problem: After falling in love with the Tseldora Set, I went ahead and farmed the crap out of the zone (using rings/items for drop rate) to try and get pieces. I was successful in getting all pieces except for the gloves, but now I've run out of spawns in the zone (particularly of the infected Spider Drones aka Hollowed Spiders - none left anywhere as far as I'm aware). I also have farmed all the large waves of Parasite Spiders to near extinction, since I know it can be a rare drop from them as well. If I understand correctly, the gloves are the highest income piece in the set with a whopping 10% soul income. My loins burn for them, and the thought of going into the second half of this NG without them makes me sad.

    QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY:

    1) What would you do in this situation? I know my two main options are to use an Ascetic or to just suck it up and perhaps push into Tseldora as early as humanly possible when I get to NG+. If I'm planning to fully play NG+ and NG++ and so on, it seems a pity to muck it up with Ascetics. How early could I possibly get back to Tseldora in NG+?

    2) General discussion of Tseldora armor and soul income builds. I'd love to learn more from experienced players about recommended approaches for trying to be as rich as possible. Also would be cool to learn how to make the most out of builds using Tseldora armor, or recommended setups or playstyles that would suit it.

Finally I just want to say THANK YOU to anyone who's read this far. This community seems to have a lot of dedicated fans and very experienced players - newer folks like myself are so grateful for all the help! :)

    I did it!

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:48 PM PST

Just beat Dark Souls 2 for the first time. I've beaten DS1/DSR more times than I can remember, DS3 about a dozen times. And now I've beaten all three. The full playthrough has taken about 26 hours so far; and while I've gone in blind, it looks like I have a lot left to do based on the ???'s marking the travel screen. But, I've done it.

Is this old song about Dark Souls?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 03:24 AM PST

I've found an old song (1981), and with the help of James Campbell translated. Is it fits Dark Souls theme?

All things will pass, and a sage can say

Every bonfire will someday burn away.

Wind will scatter its ashes without a trace.

But while the Fire is burning, each man tends to it in his own way.

Some make it smolder, some make it blaze.

If the night is long, burn it low to save your strength and wood.

Don't make unnecessary noise, and don't spoil the forest.

But, every once in a while, there comes a fool,

A silly fool who does it all wrong,

And his bonfire rises up to the skies.

Not everything has been resolved; not everything has been allowed.

The last light of day has not faded.

Don't spare the wood; the Lord protects me.

Smart are they who keep their fire low.

    They cannot warm others,

But can survive until warmer days have come.

But thou wert wrong, thou burnt all in an hour,

And after an hour the blazing fire hath faded away.

But while it burned all people were warmed.

Augur of darkness - possible major bug

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 06:16 AM PST

Sorry in advance if this is not the place to ask about DS2 mods, but I've had a hard time finding info on this one...

So I've been playing this mod Augur of Darkness for SoTFS:

    https://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls2/mods/850?tab=description&BH=3

It's pretty cool, as it changes around item placements and level geometry, making for a fresh experience.

Now, the author doesn't really state any weapon balancing or nerfs to spells, so I don't know if this effect is intentional or not, but weapon buff spells DO NOTHING. You can cast them and they play the animation but have no effect whatsoever. I've tested this with dark weapon, resonant weapon, and CMW, on both normal and infused weapons. No AR changes. No weapon color/glow.

If anyone else is playing through this mod, please, could you test this out? I just want to know if it's meant to work this way or my game is somehow bugged... Thanks in advance

    Just beat the dark lurker...

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 06:26 PM PST

I think this was actually the hardest boss for me, at least when he got to phase 2. Anyways, I've finished all the bosses except royal rat authority (which i heard is shit) blue smelter demon (just a clone of smelter demon) and lud and zallen (which I'm pretty sure is just 2 aavas) so I think I'm done with the game for now.

But walking back is the pits.

New to the franchise, they should call it Walk Shoes. Or Dork Soles.

I was enjoying it until I lost my green pile. Lost 1k souls and idk where they are. Probably gone now.

Any hints to cut down on travel time?

    Can't find dull ember anywhere

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 08:08 PM PST

I'm in the iron keep. First I thought it was on some corpse in that large open area to the right, hanging off of a broken stairwell. But I got that item and whatever it was, it wasn't the dull ember. Then I saw somebody else to say that they got it after beating the pursuer. I just killed him, and did not get it.
