Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Also Thank you for the giving me the seed of the giant now that I look in my inventory to see what it is. Thanks for showing me the way at least. Sorry I didn't know about the giant seed so you can actually help me.

    Third playthrough

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 05:19 AM PST

    Hey all!

I absolutely love this game and am thinking of starting my third playthrough of this game.

I've done a strength based build, a sorcery based one and a miracle based one.

I think I'm gonna do pyromancer this time :D

Wish me luck and if you got any suggestions or tips I can use, please leave a comment down below.

    Oh, and of course...

    ...the flesh is weak.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:31 PM PST

Sometime in June, I plat'd Dark Souls 3 after platting Bloodborne. At that point, I decided I'd take a break from Soulsborne for a while. Y'know, play something that WASN'T Souls for the first time in about five years.

    So I did.

I played some top-notch, high-quality games. Editor's pick level games. y'know. But I just couldn't get Souls out of my head. Pillars of Eternity. Beautifully executed. Wouldn't change a thing. Shadow of Mordor. Great combat. But something... something kept telling me "Yeah, these are great and I'm gonna let you continue having a good time'n'all, but you know you KNOW you'd rather be playing Dark Souls."

So I just stopped gaming. For just over a month, I'd say. I tried playing Sekiro. Couldn't get into it. So I REALLY stopped gaming.

And finally, yesterday, I broke down and fired up SotfS and immediately felt as if I'd betrayed myself by not giving myself time to explore other games. I was filled with dread for the future. "Can I handle this right now? Do I WANT to handle this right now? Am I... emotionally prepared for this journey?"

    Yes! YES!

    I DO want this journey!
I AM the bearer of the curse!
I AM the conqueror of adversities!

After i defeated Dark Souls 2 on a laggy Xbox 360 i became a different man indeed...

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:29 PM PST

So exactly a year ago when christmas was coming close, I was thinking about what game should i buy on my xbox 360... I was thinking about dark souls 2 for a really long time, because it looked like an awesome rpg. I watched some reviews on youtube and so on, and i finally decided to get the game after a long time of thinking about it. I got it exactly on christmas day and at the christmas table i was only thinking about this game. And oh boy when i turned the game on at the evening.... I'm not gonna lie I was really dissapointed, here's why: 1. Since i ordered the SotFS edition i expected it to be 2 discs, one with the base game and other with the SotFS download. But i was wrong, it came as a download code from xbox live. You might think "soooo...? Just use the code OP.." And i would agree with you IF ONLY MY XBOX 360 WASN'T BROKEN (basically my xbox cant update xbox live to newest version so i cant use xbox live at all). Well, i had to play the game without the SotFS DLC's. 2. My Dark Souls 2 game had a really big input lag, so i couldnt really use the rolling mechanic all that effectively for the whole game, so i just used shields and oh boy that sucked balls to do. I even quitted DS2 for like 4 months after dying to a boss because of input lag. After those 4 months something clicked inside of me and i thought "huh i should really finish dark souls 2". So i pushed through, pushed through and pushed even more throught the while game until i came to fight Nashandra... That was it, i knew, the end of the nightmare, I died a few times and then i killed her finishing the game... the credits began rolling, the Nameless Song started playing and i sat there like a potato and felt empty, but also felt ecstatic. The game, the nightmare was finally over, i overcame my fears, my weaknesses and i even conquered the input lag... If you want to become a changed man/woman, you should experience this in my situation.. oh boy pheww huh. TL;DR: Played through dark souls 2 without SotFS, on a laggy and shitty xbox 360 and it really changed me, i grew from a 17 year old teenager to a 17 year old macho man... phew im tired... aight imma head out

    Pros/Cons of Online Play?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 07:38 AM PST

    Hey everyone,

I'm a newer player, new to Souls games and new to DS2 (on my first ever playthrough). I'm wondering if the more experienced people in this community could help me to understand the pros and cons of Online Play in DS2 so that I can decide what is best for me.

I am a super casual player, taking things very slowly and trying to learn as I go. Early on, I died a lot to "easy" stuff, but I've been getting a lot better. Nevertheless, I don't really have any interest in invading other players or having the same shitlord with a creepy name try to invade me again and again. I also have no interest in pursuing any of the PvP covenant stuff - my main goal is just to complete the game and all the DLCs while defeating all the bosses. I don't care about getting 100% achievements right now, although I do want to explore as much of the game as reasonably possible. I might try NG+ eventually, since I'm really enjoying the game - I realize that gives expanded options for getting achievements and whatnot in the future.

All this considered, is there any good reason for me to keep Online Play going right now? So far, I've only found it to be a nuisance.

[PC] Can I get some help? Soul memory is 676000

Opinion on Shulva? (+ is it ok for me to do DLCs now?)

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:14 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

let me start with the minor question, do you need any items like the ones to open king gates, or access giants? Because I have gone just past mirror knight, and now I have started doing shulva, so should I come back for some items, or am I good to go for DLC content?

Now regarding to the Sunken city of Shulva. I have heard that level design of DLCs is superior to basic game. Did you enjoy it? I have just came across the 3 man boss, gone through some part of the city and... I don't like the DLC at all so far. The way that you can move the pillars is nice, as the basic encounters are just tons and tons of soldiers, pillars open some nice paths and make it easier to deal with the hordes.

But then the grave thing with the boss, seriously? While yes, it is doable, I have no problem with it, I have found my way to run through it all to the boss with relative ease. But exploring it at first? That was hell.

What I mean by this post in regards to Shulva, it is absolutely fine DS content, but people were talking about amazing level design compared to the rest of the world. But to me the rest of the world seemed more.. fair. If you went slowly and carefuly, you were able to overcome a lot.Is it that people appreciate how different Shulva is, or is it that this is just one bad part of DLC, but the rest of content is the thing that people praise?

EDIT: You folks have pointed out that the DLCs contain areas like the grave as coop alternative areas. I had no idea! I thought the whole game is git gud and handle it on your own.
That is actually amazing that they did something that is designed for more people, now I will hate it a bit more when I run back!

    Many thanks

    No Man's Wharf is frustrating.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 02:17 PM PST

I'm not sure if this is already well established, since this is my first time playing through DS2 since getting into the Souls series back in December of 2018. No Man's Wharf is straight up annoying. I don't know if there's something I'm missing but I've never felt more like the game is just piling on enemies to add artificial difficulty until I got to this area. To preface, I've beaten DS3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, so I've heard all the git guds before. Is there an alternate path after Dragonrider, or do I honestly just need to git gudder?

Where to try to be summoned for a Bolstone?

Sup guys first playthrough, i'm lvl 51 and just killed the Lost Sinner, going for a faith build but apparently the guy at the blue cathedral won't speak to me unless I have a token. I tried to get summoned for lost sinner but so far after 2 hours no luck. Anywhere I can get a Bolstone or otherwise, where should I put my sign down at this level?

Is Company Of Champions the best covenant?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 12:57 PM PST

I mean, it's like one extra tier of NG+ and you get infinite respawns of enemies, awesome for item farming in any area, it prevents you from exhausting enemy spawns to make the way to bosses safe to walk, but it's a minor issue.

A request- Trying to CO-OP with a pal and need some human effigies

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 12:32 PM PST

Sorry if this is not the place to put this, but let me explain. I'm trying to drag my friend into a co-op ds2 adventure, but i want him to experience the game in all its glory- including the deaths. I ran through ds3 with him, but the lack of embers meant I couldn't risk him actually dying so I always pitched in and helped. This made the game easy. Now I want him to get into ds2, but I've only done 1 run and do not have many effigies at all, and I haven't even done the dlc or other final enemy. So I am requesting if I could be given like 25 effigies or something to transfer to my friend, so he can experience death and we can jump start our game. If this isn't possible, I get it, and I would welcome some tips for the best co-op experience, like whether I should start a new character/places to farm effigies besides NG+. Thank you!

So there's this invisible wall in the Lost Bastile where you "unstone" the guy that sells boss weapons...

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:55 AM PST

I watched a playthrough of some guy playing DS2 SoTFS because I didnt know where to go next and he went to the Lost Bastile and there's that invisible wall thingy, he easily went through that wall but I keep smashing and smashing without any effort so Im asking The Reddit Gods to guide my way. Is it that there isn't a invisible wall anymore due to updates or something or am I just doing things wrong?

    Debating Respeccing on First Run

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 08:05 AM PST

I just beat Lost Sinner and have started into Huntsman's Copse. I've been running Demon's GH so far and while I enjoy squishing everything I kinda want to be a little faster.

I'm going mainly blind only looking things up if I'm stuck. I knew about DGH before starting.

After playing some more(I've beat DS1 with multiple builds)I think I want to respec but I'm worried I'll miss my big squish.

    I'm debating doing something like:

*Right hand: Katana/fast sword & bow for range/emergencies

    *Left hand: Pyro/extra sword

I don't want to run any shields I rarely do anyways, but if I find a time I need one I'm sure my stats will make one easy enough to use.

I'm SL 74 or something like that can't remember exactly. Have only leveled ADP, STR, VIT, VIG, and END. My strength is nearly 40.

So should I respec or just level DEX until I can use different weapons? And ATT for my spell slots?

What weapons would you recommend for this kind of character? All I really know that is in this game is like Uchigatana and Scimitar or something. I want fast and flashy/stabby. I might consider a parrying dagger for left hand instead of a second high damage weapon.

    Thanks for any input provided!

    Soul Farming help

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 11:26 AM PST

Hi, i want to ask about the best way you guys farm souls, im not sure if my way is good enough, i always farm Giant King with the Ascetic you get in the boss zone, sometimes i play the other giants memories and some times i dont, but farming that boss is easy, even more with any magic build, i find sorcery to be the best, then pyromancy, then lightnings, but maybe there is a better place to farm souls, maybe not as easy but with more profit, i need it to have an ascetic i can get to farm the same place over and over without actually consuming the ascetics. In Regular DS2 you can farm infinite twinkling titanites in front of the giant king boss but in SOTFS they Don't respawn with ascetics, thats kind of sad. Is there any place besides dragon aerie where i can farm titanites? I like aerie but i hate the mummys.

    No death/No bonfire in NG+3

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 03:58 PM PST

I have just finished my ND/NB run and it feels so great, since there are so many gank squads, shitty mechanics like poison or toxic, stunlocking enemies, etc.

I have come up with a pretty good plan in my opinion that can be generally applied(for melee characters, anyway, this type of run is recommended for melee characters).

I have a deprived character with the following stats:

    VGR 50

    END 30

    VIT 30

    ATN 30

    STR 45

    DEX 30

    ADP 30

    INT 30

    FTH 30

Getting some of these stats isn't mandatory, you can ignore leveling some faith or intelligence, but vigor is the most important, tankiness is required even if you're good at rolling.

As weapons and equipment I needed:

Chime for Denial miracle(your best friend in this run)

Staff for Repair sorcery(coupled with repair powders)

Pyromancy flame for Warmth healing spell(Great Heal miracle or other heal spells work very well too)

Raw Santier's Spear+5 because it can stunlock little humanoid enemies, has fast attacks, versatility between spear and twinblade moveset(DO NOT forget to break it) and infinite durability

Magic Shield(upgrade it if you want) for Shrine of Amana

Personal choice equipment, mostly for bosses(Dragon Tooth, Greatsword, Fume Knight UGS, bow with poison arrows for intimidating enemies, blossom kite shield for stamina regen, and other)

    Armor:

Crown of the Old Iron King for spell recharging, negating the need to consume amber herbs and plants like that

    Alva set(personal choice)

Hollow Mask for Nashandra fight, optional

    Rings:

    Life Ring+3(DLC Ring)

    Chloranthy Ring+2(Executioner's Chariot in NG+)

    Royal Soldier's Ring+2(Velstadt in NG+)

    Third Dragon Ring(Dragon Shrine)

Get some resistance rings if you want

Consumables: stock up on all 3 types of lifegems, repair powders, green blossoms, elizabeth mushrooms, amber herbs, brightbugs, falme butterflies, etc.

    General tips:

    • Estus Flasks are for the final fight, or emergency situations that can ruin your run
    • Do not stray too far away from the main path if you've got the items/equipment you already have
    • Plan each step carefully
    • Only fight the enemies that block your way
    • Do not feel ashamed to use summons, not dying is more valuable than your pride
    • Play offline, only use NPC summons
    • Watch every corner before stepping further
    • Divide et impera: avoid gank squads by killing enemies one at a time
    • And of course, do not DIE and do not REST at any bonfire(only the primal ones)

    Things Betwixt:

Kill the Falconers, avoid the Kobolds, kill the 2 red Forest Grotesques, then talk with the boomer ladies. Skip the tutorial and go to Majula.

    Majula:

ONLY light the Far Fire bonfire because it is your main checkpoint for leveling up and upgrading equipment

    Forest of The Fallen Giants:

Make your way to the Cardinal Tower(where merchant Hag Melentia is), go downstairs killing every hollow in your way. Climb the tree and don't go where Cale is, you don't need him. Kill the turtle and the archer, activate the shortcut by blowing up the barrels and fight the pursuer there if you feel ready.

Make your way to the Last Giant after killing the spear and halberd hollows, but before going downstairs notice a red NPC above Pate(bait him with arrows and fight him in a safer position). Go to the place filled with barrles and to your right you will notice a red turtle, kill it. Go fight the Last Giant, buy a Yore branch and Lenigrast's key from Melentia, send her to Majula, and go to Lost Bastille.

    Lost Bastille:

Get the dull ember, the antiquated key, unpetrify the NPC blocking your way to the Ruin Sentinels and fight that boss(you can choose not to but the fight with Lost Sinner and 2 pyromancers will be harder). Make your way to Sinner's Rise

    Sinner's Rise:

Take the elevator down after killing the soldiers, fight the 2 enhanced undead and the Flexile Sentry, beware of exploding mummies, kill the Undead Jailers guarding the lights for Lost Sinner boss fight. Summon Lucatiel and Luet, then fight the Lost Sinner(2 pyromancers appear after the boss reaches 60% health). Use the primal bonfire to go to Majula.

    Heide's Tower of Flame:

Skip the enemies to cheese Dragonrider, in the last section a red phantom will appear where the Masterless Glencour sign is located(you can avoid if you hold your left). Cheese Dragonrider(6-7 steps followed by a thrust attack) to git gud. Kill Licia to avoid being invaded in the most unpleasant places(Drangleic Castle and Undead Crypt) and to get the Rotunda Lockstone. Go to No Man's Wharf(optional if you defeated Ruin Sentinels and Lost Sinner)

    No Man's Wharf:

Optional area, I just wanted a fragrant branch of yore and flexile sentry soul for boss weapon

    Huntsman's Copse:

Use the rotunda lockstone, go to Huntsman's Copse, pretty easy area for Santier's Spear, go to the Skeleton Lords and avoid Executioner's Chariot. After killing the Skeletons, go to Harvest Valley.

    Harvest Valley:

Go to Chloanne, talk to her to send her in Majula, go past the poison lake, open your way to Earthen Peak but beware the Desert Witches(you can get one shot at full hp if you're not careful, no matter how much hp you have). Go to the next area after killing the hammer guys(poison pots best method)

    Earthen Peak:

Fight the most difficult boss in the entire game(Covetous Demon) then make your way to Mytha. Get Devotee Scarlet, kill the Manikins in your way, set the windmill on fire by using a flame butterfly), go get Jester Thomas and fight Mytha(Or watch Thomas kill her with several Forbidden Suns). Make your way to Iron Keep.

*Don't forget to talk to Gilligan

    Iron Keep:

Kill the ninjas ONE BY ONE, golden rule.

Fight the first ninja, then fight Armorer Dennis OR Fencer Sharron. In NG+ at the starting area there is a red Alonne Captain, be wary of that. Get a yore branch from Magerold and proceed.

Bait the ninjas to fight them one at a time. Take down the first side of the bridge, kill the annoying greatbow ninjas and turn off the oven.

In NG+ there spawn 2 red Alonne Captains in the oven. Bait them out and get on the bridge to fight a normal Alonne Captain and skip the Smelter Demon fight.

Kill the ninjas and the ironclads, get to the Old Iron King but don't turn off the fire, just walk between the fire spilling statues(if you want the fire turned off you have to fight a phantom with 2 great hammers in NG+).

Kill the Old Iron King and use the primal bonfire to get back to Majula.

    The Gutter:

Talk with Gilligan for a ladder and drop down the Majula pit. 2 npc phantoms and 3 exploding mummies await you below the bridge with the crystal lizard, run past them and make your way to the gutter. Use a flame butterfly to navigate easier and avoid dead drops, making your way to Black Gulch.

    Black Gulch:

Remember that Santier's Spear has Spear moveset when one-handed. Use this to destroy poison statues, avoiding the poison statue cluster that spawns in NG+. Kill the worms and Darksuckers from the oil pools, summon Lone Hunter Schmidt(Automated turret Schmidt) and Bashful Ray to kill Victor and Gully, the invaders. Go to The Rotten with or without the NPC's, kill him and use the primal bonfire to go back to Majula .

    Shaded Woods:

Unpetrify Rosabeth the pyromancer, talk to her, give her some clothes, reset her to Majula using the homeward Bone or the Aged Feather, then pull the switch and deal with the gank squad. Go to the ruined for road, right into the fog, hold your left to talk to Vengarl, then go the Shaded Ruins. Go past some curse statues(Hollow Mask), talk to the scorpion guy(get the ring of whispers from Shalquoir), unpetrify a lion then kill Vengarl's body. Return where you first met Vengarl and you'll be able to summon him later on. Make your way to Najka, fight her with or without Tark(he rewards you with a yore branch regardless), then go to Doors of Pharros.

    Doors of Pharros:

Skip this area and go to Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

    Brightstone Cove Tseldora:

Go to the hollow farmers throwing boulders, kill them, then encounter The Duke's Dear Freja. Damage her if you want or ignore her and fight her later. Get a torch, walk past the spiders and fight the second most difficult boss, Prowling Magus and congregation.Kill him(or them) and make your way below to the spiked field. Before going there notice a red phantom at your right, kill it then proceed while holding a torch. Go to the giant spider and kill it with or without Manhunter O' Harrah. DO NOT forget to embrace the great soul, use the primal bonfire to get back to Majula.

Shrine of Winter and Drangleic Castle:

Make your way there after all this effort(or after acquiring a ton of soul memory, but the latter is harder to achieve). Go to Drangleic Castle, talk with Emerald Herald, then kill the 2 elephants. After that, you'll encounter royal swordsmen and a red phantom with a hammer type weapon. Bait that phantom, THEN fight the rest. Kill the royal swordsmen when you're close to the statues. Go into the castle, past the Syan knight disguised as statue on the left, proceed to King's Gate area. Only kill the enemies close to the left first door to activate it, make your way to the Twin Dragonriders and kill them.

Activate the elevator by killing a manikin close to the golem, summon Luet to fight the horse and get Gower's Ring of Protection, then make your way to that elevator. Go up but before opening the door fight a red phantom holding a katana and a gratshield. Get the key to King's Passage, take the elevator down, fight the horse statues, then go to Mirror Knight. Kill him and go to the most beautiful, easiest and the most fair place in the game, Shrine of Amana.

    Shrine of Amana:

    1. Get down from the tower, fight the aberrations if you want, kill the archdarke pilgrim, then talk to the first milfanito. Get out of the house and prepare for a wonderful gank squad. You have to fight 3 archdrake pilgrims: be wary of their hammers, thrust attacks and ability to stunlock and ruin your ND/NB run. Go to the fog gate to the second section.
    2. Hold a magic shield and kill each sorceress one by one in this section. Be careful of hidden amana aberrations and make your way to the house. Summon Automated turret Schmidt(see Black Gulch) to make your life easier, killing aberrations and sorceresses. Go past the archdrake pilgrims, to the cave with corrosive mushroom guys(be careful how you kill them or bye bye armor and rings).
    3. Speedrun the last death gauntlet by going left behind the pillars, past the peculiar kindalur, talk to milfanito and make her disappear, then go to the Demon of Song. Kill him and go to the Undead Crypt.

    Undead Crypt:

Go past the syan guys, KILL the torch hollow(you don't want to aggro Agdayne), past the shield guy. Kill the n-word witches, go to Agdayne, make your way to the first "cemetery". Speedrun so you don't get overwhelmed by leydia pyromancers(destroying the statues is viable but riskier). Go to the 2 shield guys, aggro them, then drop down to the second cemetery. Go to the left and behind, activate the shortcut and make your way to Velstadt. But at the stairs, drop down and kill the 3 zombies trying to ring the bell(which summons 6 leydia pyromancers). Kill the syan guys first, the dragonrider second, then prepare for Velstadt. After killing the boss get the ring, go back to Majula and Shaded Woods.

    Aldia's Keep:

From the ruined for road go forward, past the ogre and the syan guy, go to the keep, kill Astatiel of Mirrah, then make your way to the Guardian Dragon. Be careful at the doors with ogres, walk close to them then head right or left so you don't take damage. Proceed to the Guardian Dragon, kill it and go to Dragon Aerie.

    Dragon Aerie:

Skip the area by taking the ladder and the grappling hook.

    Dragon Shrine:

Equip Gower's Ring and run past all the enemies to the Ancient Dragon. Go inside the "circle" he is standing into, talk to him, obtain Ashen Mist Heart, then go home to Majula.

    Giant's Kinship:

Go to the forest of the fallen Giants, Cardinal Tower, down the ladder, after the bridge with halberd soldier, then go into the courtyard where you'll encounter 2 npc phantoms and a syan guy. You can bait the phantoms up the ladder, go back down the ladder and make a run to the syan. Get past him and go kill the Giant Lord(Last Giant with a sword, just hug left leg).

    Ending:

Go to Drangleic Castle, King's Gate, summon Benhart of Jugo and Vengarl then fight the final bosses: Throne Watcher and Throne Defender, along with Nashandra(Hollow mask and elizabeth mushrooms).

End the game and DO NOT skip anything, wait for the credits and get your OP rings: Illusory Rings of the Conqueror and the Exalted.

This is my first time writing a guide about my ds2 experience, I was inspired by ymfah's run( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE1OG7-RjwM ). A very difficult challenge, but a reason to feel accomplished and proud, especially after getting the most OP rings in the game. I am open to suggestions, tell me anything. Have a good day and git gud <3

Is playing Sorcerer or Cleric in Dark Souls 2 similar or different compared to Dark Souls 1?

As I enjoyed playing those two classes the most, I thought about trying out them in DS2. Don't want to be spoiled, so didn't check any wikis or guides.

    Thank you in advance.
