Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

I accidentally hit the giant blacksmith in Anor Londo, how bad is this?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 03:56 PM PST

The weird bat things chased me into the giant blacksmiths room in anor londo, i swung and accidentally hit him and he became aggressive and I had to kill him. I'm currently fighting the four kings and have a +6 Raw claymore, am I screwed or not?

God New Londo is a nightmare.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:05 AM PST

So I got to New Londo after killing Sif, and holy crap this place is a nightmare. The ghost Ganks come out of nowhere and will stunlock me until I die. At this point, I'm not even sure how to approach them, and for clarification, I'm using a falchion +10. Am I doing something wrong? I am using a transient curse every time I go back here.

Edit: well boys, I made it to the four kings. And they are a lot tougher than I thought. Any specific tips for them?

Edit 2: Whelp, I just defeated the four kings and never have to go to this area ever again, thanks guys!

TIL there's a blacksmith at New Londo Ruins

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 09:16 PM PST

Was just casually playing and as I was coming down the elevator from Valley of the Drakes I noticed a flight of stairs. I went down it and to my left a fucking blacksmith was right there waiting for me. He sells sorceries too.

I thought there was only 3 blacksmiths in the entire game (Andre, Giant Blacksmith and Catacomb Blacksmith). I could've upgraded much easier if I knew about this one!

On the bright side he sells Soul Arrows and another sorcery so if I make a sorcerer character I know where to go. Hope this helps for those who don't know

All of dark souls 1 is on a arch tree

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 08:09 PM PST

So I was doing some thinking. Watched the opening vid a few times. The arch trees were made of stone. The kiln never got moved, its still under that tree. The enter thing of anar londo is on a arch tree. Here is what supports my theory. On one of the shields is says that the wood is made from the distant decendants of the arch trees. the trees in ash lake to be precise.

Those giant trees in ash lake are made of wood. Not stone. Ash lake, new izzalith, darkroot, olociill, new londo, the burg, anar londo? They are all on one giant tree. Which explains why you are so high up and the sides of the whole thing are straight up and down.

    Is ds1 worth getting

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 03:30 AM PST

So I've been playing ds3 for a few months and love it. Just finished ng+. I've been thinking about getting ds1 or bloodborne because I really like the gameplay and online in ds3. My question is: Is the online in the games still active? I like playing co-op and pvp because they keep the game interesting and usually rpg's that have set weapons and collectibles every playthrough just become repetitive. Any advice is appreciated.

    Here we go!

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 10:24 PM PST

Sekiro was my first modern FS game, and I played the shit out of it for 8 months, getting the platinum and beating it on the hardest possible difficulty. But, it left me wanting more, wanting another challenge. So I went to my local GameStop and picked up the DS trilogy. I made a quick detour to platinum Blasphemous, but tonight I officially started my first run of Dark Souls Remastered. Super stoked to see where the game goes. The lore seems awesome. I was leaning towards a class like the Wanderer, and I found a quiz online to help you pick your class. Sure enough, wanderer. So I did some wandering, no idea where I'm going, took down my first boss and made it to Firelink Shrine. I'm getting ready for bed now but I can't wait to see where this journey takes me!

    Safety First!

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 06:38 PM PST

I'm making a "twink," but it's for co-op, I just love to get really strong and help people. Problem is, I'm not getting any summons at all. How should I optimize SL/Weapon?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 01:13 PM PST

First time playing a souls game in a couple years, did my first playthrough, decided I wanted to make basically a pure coop carry toon.

Currently at SL6 with nothing upgraded at all, and while I've got some work to do with getting Dark Hand and Dark Orb/Bead, I'm already very very strong and decided to go see what I could do... but I can't get summoned anywhere. Have tried low level stuff and at best I get a Garg summon like once an hour, have tried OS and beyond and absolutely nothing. Always dropped my stone everywhere in between and never got summoned other than a couple times to gargs.

Should I up my SL? Upgrade a weapon? I'm not concerned about pvp/invades at all, I just wanna be a super ridiculously strong sunbro, but I need to be able to get summoned for that!

    Need Help Completing Artorias Build

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 08:25 PM PST

As title, I'm going for a pre-corrupted Artorias build. I have the Greatsword of Artorias, I have his armor, but until NG+ I can't get the shield because there's only one soul of Sif. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out with the Greatshield of Artorias. I can provide a +10 Towershield I've been using in it's place for the ascension.

[Keyboard] My custom run keybinds work, but when the walk key is held, the game only accepts WASD, and ignores my run keybinds. Is this fixable?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 03:56 AM PST

My movement keys in games are AOEU (Dvorak equivalent of ASDF), being left, back, forward, right.

Binding these in the menu for "run" works as intended, but if I hold my walk key (ctrl in my case), the game only accepts the default WASD input; my run keybinds are not honoured.

Does anyone know how I can change the keybinds of the walk keys? This is a strange problem!

Got invaded by a phantom named “Twinkle”

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 01:43 PM PST

They grabbed me with the dark hand while I was waving back and then I almost killed them with a claymore and starting pyromancy. Unfortunately, I let them heal and they beat me to death.

I just started DS1 btw. I didn't spend much time embered in the beginning of DS3 so I never ran into any "twinks". This was my first experience with an invader in this game and I just thought their name was funny.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 02:02 AM PST

With December right around the corner, I'm issuing a challenge of sorts for anyone willing to partake. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to try to beat as many souls games as you can within the month of December.

    Simple, right?

Wrong. There is a challenge for each game, just to make things a little more..interesting..

Dark souls 1/ Remastered = Starting equipment only. You may level up your gear but under no circumstances should you change it.

Dark Souls 2 / SotFS = No life gems. Sell them or drop them. OPTIONAL: No rings.

Dark Souls 3 = Soul Level 1 run. Start as deprived and no further leveling.

    Good luck fellow ashen ones!

    CHALLENGE BEGINS: DECEMBER 1 2019

What is with my luck this playthrough?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:42 PM PST

I'm doing a replay of Dark Souls, I was in the Undead Parish earlier, and the Channeler dropped Channeler Trident, when I only had 3 soft humanity. Cut later to New Londo, literally the first ghost I fight drops the Jagged Ghost Blade, and the 2nd darkwraith I fought dropped Dark Hand. Mind you, I did both of those with only one soft humanity, and no avarice or gold serpent ring. What is going on?

    Ds remastered vs Scholar.

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 08:10 PM PST

As someone who loves bloodborne and dark souls 3, I'm trying to decide which of these would be better to get. I purchased both originally when they released on ps3 initially and played demon souls. I liked the ideas of the games but they never really clicked with me until bloodborne which led me into dark souls 3. Even ds 3 I bought on launch played for an hour and didn't touch for 3 years. After that I've put 200 hours into it within 3 weeks. I would like my souls fix and just wanted to see what was recommended most.
