Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Dark Souls is an absolute masterpiece, however...

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 09:08 PM PST

Everyone says Four Kings is a great boss battle, i'm sorry I have to disagree, it just feels like a DPS test especially on higher NG's, one king on his own isn't shit but almost any enemy is hard when there's a group of them. So instead of making a boss or duo that's actually challenging, let's spawn in a group of the same enemy that have both mid and long range attacks,

I was fighting the kings earlier and I was fighting the first king on NG+2, he decides to back away and do his AOE attack 3 times in a row, buying him time for another king to spawn until there was eventually 4 of them and they fucked me up.
I'm not against group or multiple enemy boss fights, O&S, Shadow's of Yarhnam, etc but Four Kings is not how you do this kind of boss right. It's easily my least favorite part of the game along with the entire New Londo area. The ghosts are probably the most annoying enemies in the game and I hate getting stun lock 3 shot by the Darkwraiths who are much harder here than in DS3 for some reason.

    I MADE IT

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 02:38 AM PST

It was my seventh try. I was going to do it SOLO, DAMMIT. And I did. I managed to take down Smough then a powered up Ornstein, and I felt like a goddamn king.

Just wanted to geek out a little, as it's my first DS playthrough. I'm proud of myself.

Still nowadays, the descent form Oolacile to the Abyss and Manus is one of the highest moments FromSoftware ever designed

Does anyone else here kill Pinwheel before going to Anor Londo?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST

I find with a +10 weapon I can easily defeat the enemies in the Catacombs, or a +5 Divine Weapon. I think it's good to get 20 Estus Flasks for O&S because that is a pretty tough fight.

    I just found a vagrant

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 05:26 PM PST

So there I am on my merry way to mess up gwyns day up. When I come to the bridge just before the third black knight Then out of nowhere I saw a small crab thing (kinda looked like one of those bomb things from Mario from a distance) So Im like what the hellaroonies is that thing so I mossy on over there and I my dumb arse just decides to take a journey off of the cliff and die.

So I google the bastard and it turns out that it was a really rare enemy called a vagrant. Chance are ill probably never see one again. Any one else found one of these curious crustaceans?

    Just finished Dark Souls

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 05:42 PM PST

Ended the game with SL70, artorias set, obsidian greatsword +4 and silver knight shield, I think I will play NG+, but I know there will be hardest enemies, so I don't think my sword will deal big damage, what another weapon can I use?

I’m on my first play through an I am a little lost. Any tips?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 08:05 PM PST

This is my first play through of DS1 and I am playing a melee build. I have been in the big palace in Anor Londo for a bit and I feel almost limited as to what I can do(bc of Silver knights, big guys before O&S, etc.) Is there anything I'm missing? Are there things I should be doing that I'm not?

    Lost Izalith Shortcut Not Working

So I just moved onto NG+, ran to Blightown and unlocked the Choas Servant covenant. I offered the witch 30 humanities and I did get the enchanced Pyromancy, but no shortcut opened. Did I do something wrong? I have only rung one Bell so far by the way

Rank your easiest, hardest, favorite, and least favorite bosses in each game.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:57 PM PST

Goes for Bloodborne, Demon's souls and Sekiro too, and their respective DLC. Here's my two cents.

Dark Souls 1: Easiest - Pinwheel, pretty sure everyone agrees there.

Hardest - O&S, Manus and Kalameet

Favorite - Artorious, O&S and Quelaag

Least Favorite: Bed of Chaos, Gwendolin and Gravelord Nito

Dark Souls 2: Easiest - there where alot of ridiculously easy ones but the most laughable was the Covetous Demon

Hardest - Smelter Demon, Ivory King and Fume Knight

Favorite - Looking Glass Knight and Fume Knight

Least Favorite - biggest pile of shit was Royal Rat Vanguard but there were quite a few shitty bosses here

Dark Souls 3: Easiest - High Lord Wolnir

Hardest - Twin Princes, Pontiff Sulyvahn, Sister Friede and Champion Gundyr

Favorite - Nameless King, Slave Knight Gael, Old Demon King, Dragonslayer Armour and Soul of Cinder

Least Favorite - Aldrich and Deacons

Bloodborne: Easiest - Witch of Hemwick

Hardest - Ebrietas, Lady Maria and Orphan of Kos

Favorite - Father Gascoigne, Vicar Amelia, Bloodstarved Beast, Ludwig and Martyr Logarius

Least Favorite - Ebrietas, Shadow of Yharnam, Micolash and Rom

Sekiro: Easiest - Folding Screen Monkeys and Divine Dragon

Hardest - Owl, Demon of Hatred, Seven Spears (miniboss but still brutal) and Isshin

Favorite - Genishiro, Gyoubu, Lady Butterfly, Owl and Guardian Ape

Least Favorite - Corrupted Monk, Isshin and Demon of Hatred

I never played Demon's Souls so I have no opinion on that.

    Just beat Gwyn

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 04:41 PM PST

And I "chose" the dark ending.

So yea I beat Gwyn who I thought was particularly easy honestly (I felt a lot of the bosses were easy, 1-2 shots, but tbf I have now realised I missed a lot of optional bosses) because I found him easy to parry.

Anyways, after beating him I wanted to go do optional bosses or just kinda run around areas because I didn't want to go just yet but I didn't realise walking out of the room would trigger the dark ending.

Not too fussed though, still an amazing game, I'll have to think about it but I can definitely see it becoming my favorite game of all time.

On to DS2, then 3 and then maybe I'll go back and do all the stuff I missed in one.

Edit: oh yeah forgot to add, is there a claymore in DS2? That weapon is my shit and I'm down to play all the games with it if possible. If so, do I find it some contrived way like DS1 or is it just vendored? Thanks.

I did not experience the difficulty that is O&S or Bed of Chaos

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:00 PM PST

This is my first full playthrough of DS1. I've heard the notorious, fearful tales of O&S. I've seen videos of the fight, seen how often they appear on difficult boss rankings of the SoulsBorne series. So, needless to say, I was scared to fight them. I'm not amazing at the Souls series. But I happened across 2 summon signs in Anor Londo in the bonfire where Solaire is, and the Silver Knights were kicking my ass so I decided to summon both.

We got to O&S, and by the time I finished dodging Ornstein's relentless attacks, Smough was down - obliterated by my fellow helpers. Then Super Ornstein also got obliterated by the 2 summons (I did deal the final blow). The fight was over in less than 3 minutes.

Bed of Chaos is another notorious boss I've heard nothing but "f this" because of the RNG of its attacks, namely the "dodge a little more, destroy the floor, everybody hates Souls parkour" part. However I got lucky and didn't even have to jump. I just kept running and somehow BoC barely even broke the floor. I used one Estus because I was dumb and ran right into a fire pillar as it exploded, but other than that, I actually had an easy time, and easily beat it first try.

I'm actually a bit disappointed by this, as I enjoy the challenge SoulsBorne gives. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the summons and the blissful RNG, but the challenge I wanted was not given.

TIL Dark Souls Remastered closes automatically if you're afk on the main menu for a long time, about 15 minutes I'd say.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 07:14 PM PST

I launched Dark Souls remastered, and I am not sure if it is on both versions, but I had to go and do something that took a large amount of my time. I came back into my room and as I was getting sat down, the game menu went to black and closed. Kinda cool, I guess. lol.
