Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Trying to make the Rat Covenant great again.

Traversing the Gutter today and couldn't help but ask myself one very important question.

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 05:07 PM PST

Who performs routine maintenance and general upkeep on the wooden platforms and ladders throughout the gutters? Because I highly doubt it's the various Hollows who do it.

    Pyromancer Advice

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 04:32 AM PST

Hi, I'm currently playing a pyromancer for the first time but I'm not sure what weapon to use. I can't decide between chaos rapier, black knight greatsword, or black knight halberd. If you have weapon suggestions that are not these 3 I also want to hear them. I am planning on only playing pve. I've finished the game and want to start NG+ with a strong new weapon. My stats are as follows:

    VIG: 50

    END: 20

    VIT: 20

    ADP: 20

    STR: 20

    DEX: 20

    INT: 60

    FTH: 60

    ATT: 50

    Farming loyce souls

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 07:54 AM PST

Other than the usual "boost item dicovery" and "try to be summoned" (18.5 mill soul memory on xbox laughs at that notion) I've also seen people say to ascetic the boss. My question is if I do that, will my previous loyce knight bros return and will they be boosted to the next ng cycle alongside the enemies? I assume so, but I don't want to do anything and make my friendlies as effective as paper against the boosted enemies.

Is the arena always this toxic?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 11:16 AM PST

So I'm a souls vet that originally played vanilla DS2 on launch and put it down after I beat it. Wasnt captivated by it like the other games.

I consider myself a pretty decent players in DS1 and 3 and decided to start playing SOTFS after a long time away from DS2.

It was pretty much a completely new game to me and the learning curve was a bit different than the other games.

I made a few characters and started dabbling in the arena. Needless to say I suck in DS2 atm ad I'm still learning the mechanics. I finally got a win over someone and immediately got hate mail. Saying I'm trash and I attacked him while he was in the menus. Meanwhile the match had already begun. How am I supposed to know hes in the menus anyway? He was moving the whole match.

I also waved in the beginning and end of the match to be friendly. He called me a gesture whore and that I get an ego boost when i emote. Wtf? Is this a regular thing in the arena?

Should i expect sore losers and crybabies instead of players just looking to have fun win or lose?.

New player, blind playthrough, any advice?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 10:21 AM PST

Hi, just started dark souls II sotfs yesterday. I played DSR recently and finished it blind (mostly). I feel I'm adjusting to the combat somewhat but I'm still taking too many little nicks here and there. Any advice for someone adjusting from DSR combat to DSII?

Also I'm using the standard broadsword for the knight class at the moment and I'm totally in the market for a big strength weapon. Greataxes in the first game were my go to, any early ones I could grab?

And finally if there's anything else early game I should pick up or keep in mind, I'd greatly appreciate the advice. Thanks!

Anyone on PS4 interested in getting a free Vanquishers seal on a new character?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 09:46 AM PST

Okay so basically I rushed the agape ring and made a low level fist build and I feel it would be nice to give out free vanquishers seals at the cardinal tower, not gonna be on until later today but anyone interested?

Does the name engraved ring work like some kind of password?

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 08:19 AM PST

The description says that it is easier to connect with people who chose the same God,so does that mean that the God's name acts like a password, therefore not matchmaking by soul memory?Or is it just a way to just narrow down your chances of connecting with someone who has same soul memory AND same God?

Question - How to get a 2nd Soul of Alsanna, Silent Oracle

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:41 PM PST

So I just finished the long and arduous grind for my 50th Loyce Soul, and I'm glad I did. I can finally try out the Eleum Loyce weapon as my hard-won prize. But my question is (as the title suggests), how do I get a second Soul of Alsanna? I know that the Eleum Loyce has a unique moveset when duel wielded (though I'm unclear on weather or not both must be the same weapon), and I definitely don't want to get my hopes up if that means grinding for another 50 souls. I know Alsanna drops one when killed, but does she still do so after gifting you one? Or do I just have to raise the area difficulty and beat the Burnt Ivory King again? Any knowledge on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to Get All Achievements in 2019...

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 09:46 PM PST

It's insane. The devs put no forethought into this. The soul memory system is total trash and absolutely unnecessary. I can't get summoned for anything. On my faith character I'm trying to farm sunlight medals from falconers and Banediggers with as much item discovery as you can have with virtually zero luck after hours.

For the sorcery achievement, I've gotten the mad warrior to spawn like 4 times in 40 plus runs with the delicate string and even trying some offline. I got invaded one time and killed the guy so that's 5/30 but it's too annoying to do more in one sitting.

To get the Pyromancy achievement, you need to either kill 500 dudes in brotherhood of blood duels or slog your way to NG++ Drangleic castle. Ridiculous.

Why can't this game just have the same system as dark souls 3 where you get leveled down if you get summoned by a lower level player? Seriously whoever thought up soul memory had zero foresight about people playing after most of the player base left the game.

    Sanctum Soldier Gauntlets

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 11:29 PM PST

Hey, so about halfway through the game, I decided to switch from a strength build to a poison build. Seemed like a nice change of pace. I really like it so far, but I cannot for the life of me get these gauntlets to drop. If anyone happens to have an extra pair, I play on ps4. And I would love you forever.

Just picked up the blue flame sword. Is it worth beefing up? I'm a caster that also does melee combat. How would you guys recommend leveling it/infusing it for best results. Thanks guys

Does entering ng reset the npcs? I’ve done the pate quest line and I killed both on accident, so they reset ?

    Mace or rapier?

    Posted: 10 Nov 2019 10:13 PM PST

I've seen a lot of people saying that mace and rapiers are really good. I like the mace but, it swings slowly. The thing I like about the mace is that is does a decent amount of damage. I have used the rapier before I like the quick combat and high damage it does but the only thing that bothers me is that, when I point my camera to a enemy the rapier attacks where my character is facing.
