Veteran gamer, first time souling it up Posted: 08 Nov 2019 02:14 PM PST I have been playing those video games since the early '80s. My grey whiskers and receding hairline have thought me to stay away from the twitchy games, like CS, I can hold my own, but as a competitive spirit, middling was never an option. For some reason, I was led to believe that DS was in that category. The other day, remastered was on sale for little more than pocket lint so I decided to pick it up. I went in totally blind and here I stand a few hours in on a rooftop. My virtual butt has been beaten into the base elements of reality and I have a nagging suspicion that I somewhere down the line made a compact with Satan himself to never be bunched up by silly zombies again. But I am victorious, those pesky gargoyles bodies lie in ruin and my gleeful cackle is scaring both the cat and my wife. This .. THIS is the most fun I have had in .. well DECADES. So yeah. pretty good game. [link] [comments] |

Out of interest, why does everyone hate shields? Posted: 09 Nov 2019 03:51 AM PST Don't get me wrong, dodging around enemies is much more fun, and effective, but using a shield as a safety net works wonders for a first-time run. Just wondering if anyone has any strong opinions on shields? [link] [comments] |
The Bright Side About Being Cursed in the Depths Posted: 09 Nov 2019 03:33 AM PST is that I'm going to bed now. I've been playing for hours and have defeated the Bell Gargoyles, Moonlight Butterfly, and Capra (that goat bastard and his dogs are the reason I'm a cat person) in tonight's run. I wanted to press on until I'd beaten Gaping Dragon but before I could get to that big cunt even once I got swarmed by the smaller, even bigger cunts and was cursed and have to run back to the church. My flame may be extinguished for the night but I won't go hollow. I'm just so fucking sleepy lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 11:50 PM PST What's the best early game boss that will get you summoned the most often? I've beaten up to quelaag (DSR on steam) [link] [comments] |
I just beat ornstein the dragon slayer & smaug the executioner (spelling) first run Posted: 08 Nov 2019 05:26 PM PST Then I went straight to the ceaseless discharge after obtaining the lordvessel and beat him first try... The ceaseless discharge is extremely annoying. Like you can't attack him without him doing this almost undogeable attack and then taking revenge for half of your health bar. But that's not the point I now understand everyone's fear of the dynamic duo but like once I killed ornstine it was easy I just put smaug behind a pillar and stunned him with a strong zwyhander attack over and over again Edit : took me probably 10 or so tries while switching up armor & my weapon every few time (I soloed it btw I'm offline) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 08:08 PM PST Just wanted to give a shoutout to Nokondi I think his or her name was. Just started playing and you helped with a boss soooooo cool. Thank you!!! [link] [comments] |
strange lag spike in new lando ruins Posted: 08 Nov 2019 11:31 PM PST currently playing dark souls on the ps3 super slim (it's in very good condition and has no sign of damage) and only have the four kings to fight now so i've been spending a lot of time in new lando ruins. the lag spike happens on the ladder that you kick down in new lando ruins. if you don't kill the first four ghosts that you encounter and get onto the ladder, as you climb your fps drops and becomes extremely slow until you reach the top. I've checked a few times and it seems that this lag spike will only happen if all four are alive when you go onto the ladder. I don't know why the lag spike starts and stops on the ladder so i'm asking if anyone here has experienced this on their ps3, any other console or on pc. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 09:04 PM PST With the announcement of Elden Ring, I finally decided to play these games after years of them being in my backlog. I've absolutely loved it and will definitely be doing future playthroughs of all three games. Maybe I'll even play Bloodborne if I can get my hands on a PlayStation. However, after getting through the first few areas by myself, I noticed how much content I was missing and decided to find a walkthrough to catch up on everything I missed. I kept it up until now, pretty much right before my final fight against Gwyn. I can't help feeling like I cheated a little bit. I didn't get to experience the exploration aspect of the game as well as I could've, and I really like that part of other games. (Shout out to Breath of the Wild and the Witcher 3.) I'm thinking I'd like to do a more pure run of the next games, but honestly I get FOMO real bad thinking about all of the secret areas, bosses, and items I might miss. Does anyone have any advice for this? Is there maybe a good place to get guidance on the secrets without straight up spoiling them? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Nov 2019 10:24 PM PST Need a good build, I currently have Greatsword of Artorias +5 and best parrying shield(?) Gargoyle shield +5. Can fast roll have best armor possible with that. Take a look, does anyone know a better weapon that swings kind of fast that does a whole ton of damage? Or a good all around defensive shield with lots of stability, that can parry? Help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Good weapons/ideas for strength faith build? Posted: 09 Nov 2019 01:52 AM PST I decided i wanted to come back to this game, it's been awhile, and do a build i hadn't done before, mostly because i remember that there weren't really many good options for it/ it wasn't very powerful, but it would be something new. I would want to focus more on pve with this build, I've never been good enough at pvp to play it for long, but it's the idea of a strength faith build, and maybe there's some ideas you guys could give me so i can know what to build up to/ around. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 07:22 PM PST I was just in Lost Izalith in that hallway with the big door and the sunlight maggots, and...man why'd they have to have me do that 🥺🥺🥺 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 01:30 PM PST Me and the boys were playing a few games on steam, when they thought they'd whip out some darksouls to let me experience the game of their childhood. 3 hours in and I was hooked, and the next thing I knew I was at Target buying darksouls remastered for the switch. The veterans watch me play and comment to themselves who I might die next. It's pretty nice to have a challenging game to sort of unplug after classes. Anywho, wish me luck. [link] [comments] |
Solo'd O&S for the first time today Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:28 PM PST This is my third playthrough and this time I don't use any summons (that was the case until I got to 4 kings). What a rush [link] [comments] |
Will Quelana still ask me to defeat the Bed of Chaos if Ive already placed the Lordvessel? Posted: 08 Nov 2019 08:13 PM PST Id like to get Fire Tempest, but she hasnt asked yet [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 05:42 PM PST I bought DS:R during the recent steam halloween sale and thought this time I would get all the achievements on a SL1 character. The achievement I'm having issues with is Prayer of a Maiden, specifically the sunlight covenant miracles. Does anybody know if the white sign summons that lower the faith requirement to enter the covenant carry over into NG+. I might have to reconsider if not as getting 4 summons at SL1 with a +15 weapon is near-impossible and doing the first run with a standard or low-reinforcement weapon just for sunlight spear. If nobody knows I guess i'll do my own research but getting any summons in DS:R is painful enough. [link] [comments] |
2 bosses left before I finish my first DS1 playthrough Posted: 08 Nov 2019 07:45 AM PST Man what a journey it was! I believe I'm down to two bosses left--Manus and Gwyn. I'm sure gonna miss DS1. I know I haven't discovered every secret, but my continuous back and forth in treading the map made the world familiar to the point it feels like home. Thanks for all those people who convinced me to play the DLC. I can't count the number of times I died to Artorias and Kalameet. I loved Artorias because he reminded me of the bosses in Code Vein (I came from Code vein). I almost hated Kalameet until I decided to turn the R3 lock off--which made the magic trick and he became much much more manageable after. I'll be diving into DS2 soon, and hopefully I'll be able to finish all from software games and all other soulslike games. P.S. I believe Nioh is available in PS Plus, so for those who haven't grabbed it, it's available for download P.S.2. I heard the new Star Wars game will be soulslike, so I'll be grabbing that as well. See you guys soon when I'm on board DS2. Praise the sun! 🙌☀️ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 10:21 PM PST I did all the steps right, helped with the gate, then in sens, then in anor londo, then in firelink shrine, then in blighttown, but he just wont move from blighttown. And sieglinde isnt spawning.. Seath isnt dead btw. Any ideas? I tried the classic quit and reload. Gave him the clumps and got the pierce shield. Exhausted his dialogue but nothing.
