These are the maps I made playing through the Souls series this year. They will help nobody.

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 02:58 PM PST

    Hello. Long-time lurker.

A year ago this week I played my first FromSoftware game, and since then I've completed every game in the Borne/Souls/Sekiro series (except the one not available on the PS4). To celebrate, and to pay tribute to these extraordinary games, I wanted to share all the maps I made while I was playing. I thought people here might enjoy seeing them, though as maps go they will be helpful to exactly no-one.

The games have blurred together a bit because I played through them one after the other, but it has been fun looking back at the maps and thinking about which locations stand out most in my mind.

I've never used Imgur before but I think you'll find them here: https://imgur.com/gallery/4hQBQKz

I also posted them on my Twitter with a bit more explanation but I wasn't sure if that breaks some reddit rules. Happy to remove that link if I need to.

Hope you enjoy seeing what one very lost, very solo player had to do to survive!

Beating Ornstein and Smough using a +0 Caestus Only, at Soul Level 1 (1 hour, 48 minutes)

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:35 AM PST

    I recorded a video

First phase was a pain sometimes, since this fight presents multi-enemy attack combinations, so you dodge one, and sometimes the other guy's attack hits you when you immediately finish your roll i-frames, or I could even get hit by the first attack due to a fuck up and get absolutely destroyed by the second guy inminent attack, which usually killed me when I was making progress on this. Super Smough wasn't much of a threat, once I knew how to anticipate his charge, his phase wasn't too much of a trouble, but still was long.

I decided to play with care, I tried to play aggressively on previous attempts, but getting hit is really easy playing like that, and I wanted to preserve my estus as much as possible, there were still a lot of heart attacks though, and the end of phase 1 was really tense.

    Boss Flowchart

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 07:34 PM PST

I was bored, so I decided to make a flowchart showing the minimum requirements for accessing any boss. The broad sections show which bosses can be fought before and after placing the Lordvessel, and arrows show which bosses unlock access to which other bosses. Their physical placement does not mean anything besides where they are in regards to the red lines.

PvP and backstab fishing - your opinion

    Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:45 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

Dark Souls series is gorgeous in terms of both PvE and PvP, provided the latter involves fairplay only. As much as I like PvP from every Dark Souls, Bloodborne included, one thing which always baffled me in DS1 is how criticals work. If you played PvP here, you might have noticed two types of opponents:

    1. players just playing "normally", wielding various types of weapons and armor, and;

    2. those of wearing very heavy armor (mostly Giant's), trying only to crit you from behind using giant weapons and Hornet Ring. Sometimes, this includes parry-spaming.

It is always frustrative to meet the latter type no matter what. You keep kicking them, not letting them backstab you, and yet, they eventually manage to get you from behind in one or two shots, especially when the latency goes unfortunate for you. This is unlike losing to people who avoid that trope and use their own style of battle - yet I feel satisfaction just for fighting them. Even GiantDads with their Zweihaenders are manageable and not frustrative! I've been wondering if that's the reason why more players are sitting on others Souls in terms of PvP, due to bigger tendency of trolling in DS1.

What's your experience? How do you counter the tactics of critical fishing? Did the same occurred so often in PtDE? Or is it for me the reason to... git gud? :)

Making my first serious run... Help with my build?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 10:25 PM PST

I've dabbled with Dark Souls a few times in the past, but I've never gotten much further than the Taurus Demon. I just picked the game back up a couple of days ago, and I feel like I'm ready to try making a serious run through the game. However, I'm unsure about the viability of my build, and I'm in the early tens in Level right now, and I'm at the approach to the Taurus Demon.

My starting class was Wanderer, and my Strength and Dexterity are both at 15 to give me a wider variety of usable weapons, since I've noticed a lot of weapons having a minimum requirement in both stats. All other level-ups have gone into either Vitality or Endurance to give my character more staying power.

Is this approach flawed, and will I run into trouble later in the game by using it? Also, if anyone has any general advice regarding builds, I'll gladly listen.

    Thank you.

    So I’m fucking lost

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 08:11 PM PST

I just started the game last night. I reached where Andre and the onion knight guy are, and I found an area called new Londo ruins that leads to the valley of drakes from a door. And I went down a tower and I was attacked by Havel and I ran away to a darkroot area. I was getting destroyed by the first mob I saw in the drake area, so I left. I freed a knight wearing golden armor (forgot his name) and I've been fighting the gargoyles but they're kicking my ass too. I literally have no idea where to go... I've never been this lost in any of the other soul games. Please help!!!

Does The Zwei Actually Worth It?

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 10:35 AM PST

I'm on NG and using the Gravelord Sword +2, I've had no trouble with enemies and even bosses but I've heard that the Zweihander literally destroys everything. Should I start using it?

First Souls playthrough - DS Remastered

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:33 PM PST

Picked it up yesterday. Still a far way from getting good, but I went from barely surviving yesterday to slaying the general mobs in Undead Burg. The difficulty makes it feel incredible to suceed at all in combat, even though I'm still mediocre. This game is amazing, and I'm kicking myself for being 10 years late to the party.

Massive amount of board game content

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 04:06 PM PST

Dark Souls the Board Game is a fantastic game! I've got all the expansions now that they've been shipped from the company's Kickstarter campaign. Over 3 years of time has passed. Now it's complete and done.

I tried consolidating as much of the expansion content together with the core game. Everything is in 2 boxes now, except the mega bosses like the Gaping Dragon. If interested, check out these pics I took of how it all fits in 2 boxes.

    Sen's Fun House

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 10:57 PM PST

So I had been on a Soulsborne hiatus for a good five months or so before I adjourned back into Lordran today. I'm playing a strength build and have been working with a +7 battleaxe and a +5 pyromancy flame and I was more or less running through everything until I visited Sen's Fortress; for some reason, my axe just doesn't do a damn thing against the sneks. Thinking about trying a different weapon, but I really like the speed I have with the axe. Should I change it up? Current stats are 32 strength, 10 dex.

    Bed of Chaos: Artificial Difficulty

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:19 PM PST

I've seen some YouTubers, most notably Demodcracy, talk about artificial difficult in souls games. With the bed of chaos, it's not like the boss fight is actually hard. I might get frustrated about a stupid hit against the Demon Firesage right before, but when I get to BoC, I just sigh and bonfire run again. It's not fun or challenging, just monotonous, much like poison swamps. I have no idea why From thought it was a good idea to keep putting poison swamps like Blighttown and the Farron swamp in the game. Is there any real argument FOR this kind of "artificial" difficulty? It just seems annoying. I drop a "Fine work, skeleton" message and try to forget it every time.

    Help with Darkroot Garden

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 08:22 AM PST

Killed the Moon butterfly, opened the doorway with that seal purchased from the blacksmith, and I just lost an ass-ton of Souls because I got stuck between trees after slowly clearing out the area of enemies...tried quitting and loading back in, and was still stuck between the same triangle of trees. Homeward bone, and upon reattempting the level, 8 stupid ents converged on me. Went back to recover, killing the clan or forest protectors as usual, and one of this SOBs just sort of hovered behind me through some ridiculous animation and backstabbed me to death. I just can't...I don't wanna! Waaaah!

Don't want to deal with this fucking level on my own, so if any PS4 bros wanna be my tour guide through this awfulness, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    black knight weapons

    Posted: 22 Nov 2019 04:51 AM PST

In my current run, I'm playing with the Black Knight Greatsword. I guess my point here would be that by the time you could maybe get a +10 regular weapon, you can pretty easily have the dark knight weapons up to +4, and they do so much damage.

Anyway, I just got a random drop of the Black Knight Sword, so I'll probably try that out a bit too.
