All through the undead asylum I was thinking "yeah ok I'm feeling groggy after being imprisoned, I'm sure I'll stop fatrolling when I get out." Nope.

"Ah yeah yeah there are some skeletons guarding these graves, they should be like the ones in the untended graves! Easy." Nope.

"This dragon looks like Midir, but time is convoluted so he's for sure dead." Nope.

"Holy fuck I finally met Solaire! Now I get to ride this emotional high across this bridge to that bonf-" Nope.

I caught a glimpse of a god damn hydra guarded by invincible crystal golems, Havel was guarding the exit, a black knight was guarding the back up. I snagged a fire keeper soul and took it all the fucking way back to firelink shrine after finding out that I can't fast travel expecting the firekeeper to guide me a bit but nope. I've just taken off all of my armor and I'm running past as much as I can and relying on backstabs for the rest. I cannot believe how brutal this game is compared to DS3. I am so lost, and confused, and exasperated, but damn am I having fun. I'm getting to see all of these iconic things from the lore and it's just the best shit ever! My ass is red, but overall I'm just tickled pink. 10/10 would suffer again.

    Also, fuck rats.

PSA: Don't forget you can cheese Capra and his pups

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:11 AM PST

You can just throw firebombs over the fog gate till Capra, and usually one or both dogs, are dead. I barely see this mentioned and didn't know it until like a tenth playthrough. Suck it Capra!

Cosplaying Solaire gets so many free friends

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:47 PM PST

I wasn't sure what to flare tag this with, but I took my Solaire cosplay to the local Renaissance Festival (without the helmet as state laws regarding masks vary), and the only time I have had more random strangers happy to see me was when I was a team Skull grunt.

I know there are bound to be other Solaire cosplayers on this sub, so what have your experiences been?

I also had a chuckle when I realized that my round face (double chin) gave me the same terrible profile as the character creator in DS1 gives your character lol. Images in below link. Yes, it's instagram. I have an old pixel, and the imgur app kept causing my phone to crash. I mean, it still randomly restarts, but less often now. Besides, I can put my cats on Instagram lol

    My Dark Souls update.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 10:48 AM PST

I made it to Sen's Fortress, i swapped my Drake Sword for the Bastard Sword and upgraded it to +8. I really struggled for a while within the fortress, the enemies were tough, but the place is a maze. I found a Lightning Spear which i alternate between that and the BS. I somehow made it to the top, freed Big Hat Logan and found the bonfire. I climbed to the highest tower and was astounded by the view, i could see pretty much all of the undead Parish and the towers. It's such a beautifully well crafted world, and with all the twists and turns, i often lose my bearings, so to see all of this mapped out in the not-so-far distance was simply wonderful.

I was in Human form and summoned Black Iron Tarkus. Turns out i didn't actually need him, i ran to the centre piece, met the Golem and rolled under him and repeatedly hit him 2h with the Spear, he lost his balance and fell over the edge. I genuinely thought it was going to be a tough fight but i guess i got lucky.

Activated the ring and was lifted to Anor Londo. This place is absolutely stunning. I felt a strange, yet comforting warmth in my chest, like i know my journey is about to continue to get harder and more challenging. But to know I've made it here is such an achievement itself.

I killed the Sentinel, who wasn't too much trouble, and made it to the bonfire. Think i may head back up to the top of Anor Londo and praise the Sun for a while.

I did it. I beat Dark Souls.

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:50 PM PST

I did it on PS4 (remaster obviously). Here's the strategy I did.

I leveled Vitality heavily early on so I could have the most effective health I could. By the end I had 40 Vitality, 40 Endurance, 40 Strength and 18 Dexterity everything else was at it's normal stat for a Warrior. After all of this, I only beat the game at level 93 which was a huge leap from Dark Souls 2 in which I beat it with level 150. I used the Black Knight Halberd so I could effectively fight enemies while also keeping a medium attack speed while also dealing a ton of damage (BKH scales with Strength so that's why I levelled Strength heavily and by the end I had a +5 BKH that did 367 + 139 damage which equates to 506 damage) and I also used the Silver Knight Set as soon as I got it (thanks to using the Ring of Favour and Protection and Havel's Ring which heavily increased my equip load so I could wear the most effective armour and my halberd early on) and I also equipped the Mask of the Child and the Grass Crest Shield so my stamina could regen twice as quickly. I fought most mandatory bosses and skipped a couple optional ones and I did the DLC (Sanctuary Guardian took 2-3 tries, Knight Artorias took 3, Kalemeet took 6-8 tries and Manus took one try!) After all of this I beat the game at 12:08:11 which is impressive for me and I got good at parrying by the end which destroyed Gwyn despite me feeling guilty for cheesing the last boss. I also chose to bring the Age of Darkness.

So yeah, that's how I beat Dark Souls 1! This officially marks my beating of the souls series and Bloodborne with Demon's Souls being an exception (which I will try now). This is a massive achievement for me and I am so proud of myself for beating these games and it really boosted my confidence.

I'm planning on starting a Bloodborne playthrough and eventually a Dark Souls one on my channel for fun since it's been dead for 2 years and I thought this is a nice comeback. I love this game and I will definitely try out New Game + sometime

I feel brain dead. I just played through Artorias of the Abyss DLC, killed Gwyndolin, killed every npc, killed Gwyn, killed the first two bosses in NG + to get to the sunlight altar to give Lord Gwyn's soul to the covenant so I could get the sunlight spear. All within 7 hours..

[THEORY] Manus is the Furtive Pygmy

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 02:14 AM PST

I hope you're ready for the most original theory in the world

I know this has probably been speculated before and theorized, however I do not care and simply want to share my thoughts.

So while I was fighting Manus today I thought: is he the Furtive Pygmy? I don't have much evidence, but I like to theorize and here are some evidence I have found:

Manus's past is pretty non descriptive. From what I know, we don't really know Manus' backstory or what happened to him, which sounds like the Furtive Pygmy.

On top of that, the Furtive Pygmy used the aptly named Dark Soul to create Humanity. Depending on who you talk to, this could then be perceived as him being the first human if he created them (I personally think the Pygmys are the first humans basically). Manus was described as the first human. Sound familiar?

Also on top of that, anything could've happened to the Furtive Pygmy. He could possibly be the character behind the locked door in the Ringed City or he could've been consumed by the Abyss, becoming the Father of it.

Alongside that, maybe Gwyn was un approving of the Pygmy being associated with the Abyss and becoming the Father of it that, much like the Nameless King, banished him from history and making him unknown.

Maybe Gwyn sent Artorias after Manus in an attempt to also save Oolacile but also maybe to silence Manus on him being the Furtive Pygmy. Or maybe Gwyn overthought it, as Manus possibly lost his own humanity because he was too consumed by the abyss

I believe this theory and even if it's bad by some other people, I just wanted to share it because I rarely theorize about stuff so I thought it'd be nice.

Hey everyone I’m new to this group but I thought that’s I would ask this. Does anyone still play dark souls? I don’t mean the remastered version I mean the older one. I ask because I am currently playing the game again and stuck on I’ll give you a guess......Smough and Ornstein. Can someone help me?

Is it possible to summon on Gwynn?

    Lore of hellkite drake.......

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:50 PM PST

As far as my understanding goes the Drake is guarding the sunlight alter from intruders (reason why it fly's off after you make it too the alter), the alter of the heir of the sunlight, gwyn's firstborn who sacrificed everything to ally himself with the dragons....the Drake is there guarding the broken statue of his master..... Now I want to know what you guys think about it :D

Best part about Sunbroing in the Parish today?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 05:38 PM PST

Not one single twink to be seen. I spent a solid couple hours helping people beat the Gargoyles, and the few invasions that happened were legit players with regular gear.

Last time I was co-oping in the Parish, there were Giant Dads out the ass. This time, it was just wholesome, jolly cooperation. Praise the Sun!

P.S. Caveman K, if you see this your run looks truly fun and I may do a caveman run myself one day thanks to your inspiring build!

    Surreal and immersive game!

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:28 PM PST

Thank you r/darksouls for introducing me to this old yet beautiful game. The sceneries are intense and the interconnected world is such a new rarity in games nowdays. The change in pace and mindset in order to play this game almost makes it as though the game is subtly teaching you new things through gameplay as well as story. Just killed the Capra demon and going down to the depths.

Wish me luck and I hope I don't go hollow!

I wanna level resists at some point right?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:15 PM PST

Going thru ng+ and im using the full dark iron set for armor. Ive got my str at 46 and wont be increasing it unless i wanna access havel's shield so i figure ima just get tanky. As I get higher and higher level there is gonna come a point where it will be better to throw some levels into resists to increase my absolute health right?

I guess im asking how is damage calculated so i can figure out where that point is with the dark iron set.

Approximately where should I be going to place my summon sign with a +2 Astora Straight Sword?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:46 AM PST

I had no idea about the whole weapon scaling thing for summoning (every pvp encounter I've had has been with a twink so what a great idea that whole thing was), so I upgraded the astora straight sword to +2 at SL 16, and am now having to wait like 30 minutes+ at bell gargoyles/capra demon to get summoned. I've clearly fucked myself, so where should I go for easy summoning? I just want a few sunlight medals :(

    Level Resists?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 08:51 PM PST

So in other games I've played (lol, pokemon, etc.) the more health you have the more valuable resistances are because they make each health point harder to take. This made me assume I should be leveling resists if im leveling vitality. Ive heard people say that you shouldnt level resists ever though. Does it work differently in ds?

    Fight clubs?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 07:39 PM PST

What is the most popular fight club area for SL 50? I usually invade in Blighttown and Anor Londo but it just doesn't beat the fightclub experience of dark souls 2

    EDIT: on ps4

    What inspires Dark Souls lore?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:18 PM PST

It's very interesting. I was watching this video https://youtu.be/Cdk_fvXG5xA?t=20 and something clicked on 20th second.

I remembered this universe map from World of Warcraft https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/wowpedia/thumb/7/72/WoW_Chronicle_Magic.jpg/1200px-WoW_Chronicle_Magic.jpg

    So:

Dark Souls lore has life, death, heat, cold, light and dark.

World of Warcraft lore has life, death, order, disorder, light and shadow.

Both universes have really beautiful lores. I wonder where from do they get inspiration (if they do)? I am always up for branching my interest further.

How important is physical damage type?

    Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:39 PM PST

So i beat the game for the first time not too long ago, and as im going thru ng+ I wanna get gear lined up for every occasion. Ive got 3 greatshields and 2 armor sets that ill switch between situationally. I have 46 str (gonna look to get it to 66-67 eventually) and i love my demon greataxe.

Sorry for waffling but the question is should I grab weapons that deal strike, slash or thrust damage or is it not a big deal? thx in advance
