I’m amazed at how active DS2SOFS still is.

This past weekend my wife and I started to do a playthrough together and were amazed at how active the game still is. We were both summoned to other worlds while trying to connect and in turn, got a lot of bossed downed in Forst of giants. We also breezed through the tower of flame except for the Dragon; because I honestly don't remember how to fight him. She's running a caster, and I'm doing a cleric. We've previously played DS3 together from start to finish, and I personally have over 500 hours in all the games. It's a lot of fun with another player.

Just beat belfry gargoyles for the first time

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:26 AM PST

As the title states, I have slain the belfry gargoyles. And it only took one try. Like honestly wtaf. This shit was hectic because in the first 30 seconds I had 4 gargoyles on my ass but then I just realised that all you have to do is bait and punish. I had heard that this boss is a pain in the ass but after having fought ruin sentinels and died twice to them just 10 minutes before, it just seems like a whole ass cakewalk. It only took me 4 minutes to defeat them and I just wanna give a tip to someone doing a melee build just like I am and is thinking about going about killing the gargoyles. Bait one or two out at a time and circle strafe behind; then punish. Good luck skeletons, dont give up

Beat DS2 for the first time and recorded my boss death count

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST

    Hey!

So I finally beat DS2, what a long journey that was. Have completed DS1 twice and DS3 once before. Took me like a year to complete it, and had to take a break from it several times for months at a time. But I finally endured and today finished it all up including the DLCs.

I got to say overall DS2 felt easier than DS1 and DS3, but I think that might be because I was doing a sorcery only run. Pretty much went all the way through the game with Great Soul Arrows. This was my first time doing a souls game run with sorcery, usually I used greatswords, longswords or some dex weapons. Sorcery was pretty interesting though, but at points like the DLCs where magic damage was super low, it became pretty tedious and boring. Absolutely loathed the whole Shrine of Amana zone too, that was actually one of the points where I had to quit the game and I felt like sorcery wasnt too good.

I got to say though that bosses overall as sorcery user felt pretty easy, most of the toughest encounters I actually just had inbetween the bosses with the mobs. But some bosses did stick out as being much harder than the others, mainly in the beginning of the game when I was still getting used to DS2 and in the DLCs, where the damage was just crap and fights were 10minute long endurance battles.

Overall thoughts about the game are positive, but its definitely my least favourite of the Dark Souls games. Wished for more interesting boss fights, now after completing the game I can barely remember any of the fights, where as I still remember pretty much every fight from DS1. Level design and mob placement at times also felt pretty weird and at times even unfair, but overall it wasnt bad enough to make me dislike the game. Excited to try another run some time, but this time with a trusty greatsword already. :)

It's almost like this game wants you to farm boss runs

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:02 AM PST

First of all, I don't necessarily mean this as actual criticism, I'm just describing my experience

Basically, are you having trouble with a boss? Just keep farming the boss run until all enemies stop respawning. Now you have a bunch of souls to level up and, most importantly, a clear run to the boss

What kind of messages do you leave?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:08 AM PST

If you write messages for other skeletons, what kind do you leave? Funny? Helpful? Trolling? I like to leave helpful tips but I try to write them in such a way that feels more in tune with the game and it isn't explicitly spelled out. For example, one of the ladders in The Gutter drops off into the abyss so if you just just slide down it without thinking, you'll die. I'd leave message near the ladder that says something like "Think carefully and be wary of recklessness".

    darklurker first try!

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST

I just beat darklurker on my first try. Had no extra dark defense on my quality build. Feels sightly badass and wanted to share. Hardest part was actually just the first trial

is there a point in the game where its essential to parry to progress the story ?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:28 AM PST

i've been playing for a while now (first souls like game) and im ok with the combat, but i still suck fat dick at parrying and everytime i try to test it i get my ass handed to me, problem is the game doesnt really offer you any way to practice.

so im kinda worried now that i might need to parry at some point in the game ?

Cale didn't drop the key, do I have to talk to him to get the key to the house with the map inside?

Cale didn't drop the key, do I have to talk to him to get the key to the house with the map inside?

Or does the key appear later at an other place?

    I think I messed up.

Noticing people getting into the Heirs of the Sun early.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:06 PM PST

So I'm playing SotFS on PS4 and I've just started a new character. I'm at the Cardinal Tower bonfire and I'm noticing several golden summon signs. When I was summoned into a world the other summons had mid to late game equipment and spells such as Curved Greatswords and the miracles Bountiful and/or Soothing Sunlight. Now my soul memory is normal for the area just under 20,000. Is there a new skip that was found recently to get these things early because if so that could lead to some really interesting builds!

    I beat the Blueberry

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:23 AM PST

I brought a friend but he promptly died, so it was just me, a quality hexer cosplaying as Sir Alonne, and the Blue Smelter demon. I was so excited when I beat him with my friend cheering me on from disc. It was my first try on him I was surprised to be dancing around him so much. Just wanted to share, since this run will be the one where I kill every boss before ascending to NG+2 and I only have four left.

The "quantity over quality" aspect of the enemies is actually a good thing

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 02:34 PM PST

One of the most common complaints I hear about dark souls 2 is that there are too many enemies to enjoy the game and that it is unfair or creates "false difficulty"

Personally, I think that it caused me to enjoy dark souls 2 much more than 1 and 3.

Let's use iron keep for example (one of the most hated areas).

While going through iron keep, along with all of the other "bad design" areas, I was actually so much more immersed into the game. I actually found myself taking the time to know where every single enemy was placed, and I was so much more aware of my surroundings. I had to make sure to think about every move/where to go next/how to approach every area because of the constant risk of getting ganked by 4 weebs at once. Just running past everything wasnt even an option.

When compared to ds1 and ds3 though (mainly ds3) I knew I had the option to sprint past every enemy and every level with little to no punishment; Because of this lack of punishment, I found myself doing exactly this through so many areas. As much as I wanted to take my time through each area, I felt like I was just wasting time.

I believe this is why ds2 was by far the most memorable souls experience for me. Not only does it want you to take your time and experience each area to the fullest extent, it rewards you for it.

Does the Slumbering Dragon ring mask the noise enough to matter?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 02:26 PM PST

How's it going. I finally finished the Rat King covenant (using a mix of acid and poison) and picked up the ring. I was curious though, is it just a novelty or does that ring actually make a difference?

    What does this mean?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 12:24 PM PST

Hey, so my gear was broken by those asshole mummy people. I went back to Mcduff to get them repaired and noticed all the enemy's in that area had respawned. I found this strange, because I had wiped out all of those enemy's early in the game when I was farming there. I am not in the champions covenant and did not use a Bonfire aesthetic either. I'm still finishing up my first play through meaning I'm also not in new game plus. Why have they all come back? (Mcduff workshop bonfire)

    Brand new to DS2!

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:02 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

After finally beating Dark Souls 1 and 3, I managed to buy a copy of SotfS. Currently not to far, beat the Last Giant, found a new area, (forget what it's called. It has a lot of water around it) and figuring out some of the newer mechanics in this one. Also, the cat NPC is the coolest.

    Dark Souls rules.

    Praise the sun!

Best way to raise Soul Memory early on?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:28 AM PST

    Hello everyone.

One of my friends picked up this game recently, and I wanted to help him through, but my SM is too high, and he's going to be out of range for a while.

I plan to make a new character to quickly catch up so I can help him out, but I don't want to spend hours grinding low level enemies, and I suck at videogames, so I don't think I could grind bosses without immense trouble and frustration.

    What are your suggestions?

I just finished the first DLC

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:27 AM PST

Damn that was great! Now I get the hype for the DLCs in this game!

Elana was a damage sponge for my build. The 3 NPC boss fight was easy but took a lot of time, still enjoyed it.

Sinh boss was great, loved it a lot!

There's no meaning to this post, just wanted to tell someone because no one that I know cares about Dark Souls :)

Now onto Crown of the Old Iron King! Wish me luck.

I just started replaying this masterpiece. Any tips not to fuck up my platinum

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:35 AM PST

This was my first ever FromSoftware when I played it in ps3. After finishing all the other ones I came back to it again for nostalgia's sake.

Now my problem with DS3 platinum is having to farm covenant items as I am sooo overleveled. Is their a way to avoid this happening? I heard soul memory has to do with it but I forgot exactly what it doea. Any specific things I should do early on to make it easier?

Plus, this is my first time playing SotFS so idk what is different

What are some good/fun/strong early game weapons for 40k SM and below? [Scholar]

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 09:11 AM PST

Yesterday I summoned a Sunbro with what looked like a Claymore and it hit like a truck!

The Last giant was almost at half hp before Pate could enter the bossroom!

So I thought: What are some other good/fun/strong early game weapons for 40k SM and below?

So far I can think of the Heide Spear, and maybe with some dropping shenanigans maybe a +7 Notched Whip from the Sunken King DLC.

    Beginner Tips/Fun Facts

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 01:41 AM PST

Hey everyone, Im going to be starting my first Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin playthrough. I am currently finishing up Bloodborne Old Hunter DLC before finishing last bosses in the main game then ill starting DS2. I am a scrub but after finishing Sekiro I wanted to finish the Souls series and DS2 is one I have never even touched.

The reason I'm posting is to see if there are any major differences I should know of before going into DS2 compared to DS1 and DS3, and any trophy hurdles I need to know what to do before hand to minimize playthroughs? Builds to focus on first time around and what to maybe avoid? Differences in death mechanics or game mechanics? I have finished DS3 and its DLC along with DS1 and its DLC but I'm still by no means a SoulsBorne Veteran like some of you out there so any help in saving me time researching about these things and sifting through for any relevant information is helpful. Any tips or suggestions will be appreciated and thank you to anyone that contributes. Also, im sorry for the formatting I tried to break it up so it wasnt a massive wall of text that would be annoying for some to try and read if they are on mobile like myself.
