If you own Prepare To Die on Steam and have yet to go for the remaster now might be the time. It's 4€ for me and I imagine not much different for other currencies. It is also 40% off for everyone else but that's a decidedly less impressive sale that I probably wouldn't bite on myself.

    Dark Souls in the Classroom

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:16 AM PST

I teach High School and this is always one of my favorite lessons.

I teach a lesson on resiliency and bring in Dark Souls.

We talk about growth mindset and what you do when you fail.

Whoever beats the first boss gets candy.

Usuallally, I don't have to give out a lot of candy....
But I like to thing we learn something.

Just beat Ornstein and Smough for the first time!!!! :-)

First time playing the game, I've been stuck in this fight for weeks now! It's so rewarding to finally get the lordvessel! This game is punishing, but it's so damn worth it! Also, what a GREAT game in pretty much every aspect! Can't wait to continue my journey!

Which dark souls protagonists is the strongest?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:23 PM PST

This discussion is not about level of a character or characters nor how strong some weapons are in different games in the series.

(This discussion is only including dark souls, dark souls 2 and dark souls 3)

This is purely based on lore and the different challenges and enemies the protagonist have taken on.

    Have fun!!

The knight challenge. Harder than it sounds. Made me rediscover the game (kind of)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:31 AM PST

The knight shall not level up.

The knight shall keep his sword and his shield at all times. He shall never remove his armor.

The knight shall not use any weapon other than his sword.

The knight shall start his journey with the divine blessing, for all other starting items are unholy.

The knight shall not dabble in witchcraft of any kind.

The knight shall not seek to alter the steel of his sword, wether by smithing or by applying unholy buffs to it.

Unless, of course, he finds a way to have his sword blessed by the gods.

    The knight is no farmer.

The knight's sole mission is to defeat Gwyn. He may slay whoever he needs in order to achieve his goal.

The knight may wear any rings he pleases.

Tell me about your most epic failures and triumphs!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 10:12 PM PST

I didn't discover Dark Souls until 2016 when I discovered the YouTube series, Prepare To Try. This meant seeing a good portion of the game well before I started my own adventure. I've been obsessed with the game ever since (going for the Platinum currently).

I'm sure many of you went into the game completely blind, and I'd love to hear your stories of failure, triumph, confusion and discovery in the strange, beautiful world of Lordran.

[OC] Dark Souls ending; Age of Chaos

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:32 PM PST

"After slaying the former Lord of Light, the Chosen Undead leaves the Kiln of the First Flame. They have forsaken the world. The Chosen Undead only desire is to protect and comfort their Fair Lady."

"As the Chosen Undead leaves the Kiln, the First Flame burns out. Out of the darkness, a new flame is kindled. A deeper flame. A darker flame. A flame that burns outside the cycle of light and dark. This flame is a start of a new age. Not an Age of Gods. Not an Age of Man. But an Age of Demons. An Age of Chaos."

I've been making my way through every Souls game using only bow weapons. Here are my playthroughs of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1-2!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 02:55 PM PST

Hello, r/DarkSouls! Like all of you, I love the Souls games. My favorite aspect of the franchise is the replayability that comes from running challenge builds. My favorite challenge build is the bow-only character, or archer. No daggers or swords or any other weapons for defense. Just bows, from beginning to end.

I've completed all three Dark Souls games using only a bow, and am roughly halfway through Demon's Souls. If you're interested, here are playlists for my bow-only runs of Dark Souls Remastered (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnv1hUEbJ00j2jDrIDRsYuSLhYw1sBJlC ) and Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnv1hUEbJ00ihfrgNSdftPs_ltFexu7Ni ). I played both on PS4, so most videos are short and focus on boss fights. I completed my bow-only run of DaS3 on PC before I decided I liked making videos of challenge runs; I guess that means I'll have to redo that one soon!

I've been sick over the past week, so that seemed as good an excuse as any to move on to Demon's Souls. Here's a YouTube playlist with 11 videos so far: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnv1hUEbJ00jwjYK4LARActQaC8vy3mlw. More to come as I upload them. (In case you're curious, I'm playing DeS on an emulator. I own the game on disc--got it on launch day in 2009--and also have a digital copy on PlayStation Plus, but I don't have a capture card, so this setup was more convenient for recording video.)

As a bonus, here's a playlist of my mundane ladle-only playthrough of DaS2: Scholar. It's my favorite Souls game. There. I said it. There are dozens of us! Dozens! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnv1hUEbJ00goFiTXkkbBigPGAeHIQ8LV

    Hope you enjoy the videos!

    Feeling so lost

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 01:19 AM PST

I've had many people express that being lost and confused upon starting is just part of the experience... if that's the case, I'm doing extremely well!

I just started the other night, haven't had too much time to really dive in, just a bit here and there. Started off as a wanderer, as that seems to match what playstyle I'm going for the most (I know the classes are arbitrary but I just wanted to put it out there, I'm all about evading; trying to master parry times like I did in Sekiro as well, but from what I've seen dodging seems to be the thing in DS, so I figure I'd like a light, quick build so I can maneuver somewhat like a ninja and try to ease my transition between games in a sense.

I killed the first Asylum Demon (not the one where you're recommended to run), made it to firelink shrine, and then the undead burg. Been having my ass handed to me by the black knight I've come across... for combat I mainly dodge and try to get around back for a backstab or whatever. Is there a more effective method to try? Some of the hitboxes seem kinda wonky to be honest, gotta get better at making quick dodges and making my angling more precise, but besides that, I'm extremely open to tips. Are there items in this area I shouldn't miss out on or things that may benefit my build? I read I can kill a merchant npc for a decent dex weapon, is that advised/worth killing him?

I truly hope to fall in love with this series, to replay it endlessly and dissect each game like I did with Sekiro over the span of 8 playthroughs. I've been waiting to start this for a long time but even after all the hardships I faced in Sekiro, i still find myself rather discouraged. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Something's bothering me in the kiln of the first flame, DS1: blast debris and ashes

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 12:09 AM PST

So, i'm close to the end of my first playthrough, and I reached the Kiln of the First Flame. I am aware of the lore: Gwyn consumed itself, which burned black the armor of the black knights, etc.

Thre is no wind in the kiln, you would hear it like in other portions of the game. All the ashes build-up and blast debris should have been caused by gwyn's ignition.

But if you look at the ashes formations, notably around walls and pillars: they are all pointing right. That is to say, there should have been some giant explosion on the left, somewhere, that pushed with enough force that ash would build-up only on the opposite side. Moreover, the ashes are all parralel, so an hypothetical explosion would have been very far away.

Do you have any idea ? Did you guys saw it too ? Or am I simply overanalyzing ?

Which boss from the souls game do you struggle with despite being considered comparatively easy

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:35 AM PST

I don't do things by halves.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:53 AM PST

At the advice of my brother I started DSR as my introduction to DS. Aimed to platinum it as my first ever platinum before starting DS2.

I started playing and thanks to my brother being a 100% complete guide to DS1 I was able to find a lot of the decent starting gear with ease and by the time I hit Blighttown I was flying solo.

Pleased to say i have now platinumed the game and got at least 1 copy of every item, weapon, soul and piece of armour in the game.

Not played DSR since I got the platinum trophy as I'm now trying to complete my first ever run on DS2, blind, without bonfires for the trophy for that.

Shortly before I platinumed DSR my brother and his friend were also playing it at the same time one day so we agreed a challenge.

We would have a race. 1 sitting. Each create a brand new character. Whatever starting build we liked. Who could defeat Gwyn first, defeating all other bosses on the way (including DLC), 26 bosses in all.

Sadly I lost, when my brothers friend lit the final bonfire 5 and a half hours later my brother had only killed 10 bosses and I'd only managed 5.

Despite losing I was pleased with myself as both the other two had been playing since DS1 first released and had completed the game many times. I'd not long hit NG+ in my quest for platinum at the time.

Has anyone else tried any silly challenges like this?

I finally beat the 4 Kings on NG+ after 8 trys. I just tanked it with the havel set, the greatlord greatsword, and green blossoms.

    Dark souls is life

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 01:01 PM PST

I know this post won't be the most popular, and may not even be accepted. I just have been thinking on Dark Souls, the lore, and maybe some of the hidden meaning in it all. As with most of us, I've had a life of its own privileges and own hardships. I have faltered, fallen, repeated the same task time after time, until I finally got the simple routine down- much like in dark souls many of us had in our first time through. The fact of the matter is I think most things can relate between the two, Dark Souls and life. At the end of the day, I think it's why so many of us enjoyed it. How it relates to my own is probably in some of the most simple, unremarkable ways, as with many of us going off to ring two bells, the journey's aren't exactly unique, just our own experience. I've trusted the wrong people. I've loved those who would never return such, left behind good friends to continue my own journey onward, only to see them gone when I came back, each time coming back with less and less of myself in the journey. But it's funny how, despite the hardships in life, the love lost, the passing of those closest to us, the disappearance of friends and betrayals of those we were sure just wanted safety and comfort as we did, we lose our humanity, and in essence can become "hollow". I know there's been a few times in my life, recently in fact, I've just been going through the motions I told myself was normal. Completely hollow. But in the quests we overcome these obstacles, we achieve greatness beyond the beat downs, we roll and dodge through our own mistakes and blunders, learning time and time again we can't let ourselves be this way. And in the obstacle, if we are lucky, we find more of our self, some bit that we had long since restored with just a bit of humanity, the campfires we establish ourselves along the way resting here and focusing on the next great challenge, asking that person out on a first date, getting that promotion or interview, getting the degree, seeing the world as we always had dreamed. I don't want to ramble, I just have been thinking on this for a while. To those of you who understand what I'm saying, I hope you've found a fire recently. To those searching aimlessly for one- keep going on. You never know when the next bit of humanity will fall into your lap. Alright then. Goodbye, friend. And don't you dare go hollow.

    Praise the Grind

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 07:15 PM PST

After playing this game for over 100hours on ps4 and NEVER beating the game further than Seath, I picked it up on pc and started a whole new adventure determined to beat it, and I'm honestly proud to say after a weekend full of tears, energy drink and anger induced dents in my desk... 19 hours of gameplay time later I'd conquered the final of the 3 dark souls games. (Yes id beaten 2 and 3 but somehow this game stumped me). Then after a break for a few days I started it back up and grinded our every last achievement. 51 hours later I can happily say that I've gotten everything I'd even want from this game and don't think I'll be playing it again for a while.. but I want to see how many other people have 100% and of the 3 games and how did you find the experience vs just beating the game fully through for the first time 😊

Hello! I am hopefully going to be joining the souls/borne community here soon. I would like to ask if its worth getting all 3 souls games if available, as once again I am new to the series. If so is there any advice you would like to give to new players, such as myself? Thank you, it’s appeciated!!!

    Toxic build help

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:41 PM PST

I'm looking to make a lower level 50ish toxic build to invade in Anor Londo. I'm planning on using the dark tracer, dung pies, and toxic mist. What's my best way to hit toxic mist other than them being unaware? Would using TWoP be useful to immobilize them and then hit them with the pyro?

    I need to vent

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 08:54 AM PST

I currently have a +13 weapon and need one more titanite chunk to get it to +14, then I also have a slab, however, I've been farming for about 5 hours these past 2 days and have yet to get one. I mean I have covetous gold serpent ring and 10 humanity and of the hundreds of dark wraiths ive killed not ONE can drop a chunk. I'm kind of stuck on what to do, and yes, I've scouraged every location where they're either in chests or drop from black knights, and yes, I killed the sentinels in front of O&S about 20 times.

edit: after farming for another hour I find not a chunk, but a fucking slab, which i promptly broke down and got chunks. im good now lol.

What is "Retrieve remaining power of dark spirit"?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 11:15 PM PST

I'm at >200 hours in DSR, and I've never encountered the prompt before. I don't recall what happened when I acted on the prompt.

It was from defeating Mildred in Blighttown. I've been invaded by her before, but never seen that prompt before when killing her. The usual item drops from her were still on the ground.
