Can you tell me the worst weapons, spells & armors of the game(I’m trying to do a “worst”run )?

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 11:01 AM PST

So im on my first "blind" playthrough. I dont look up future places or items and really dont use the internet unless im stuck. However, here are some things i feel that new players should know.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 08:59 PM PST

Before my current level 115 dex/strength character i wanted to play as a magic user. But it was freaking hard. In fact the faith and dex builds were just as hard so i finally settled eiyh the build im at now. Funny thing is....the reason those builds were so much harder were only because i was part of the champions covenant!!! I asked a question this week and someone mentioned it offhand or sokething that had to do with it and i couldnt believe i had been playing ng+ my first playthrough. Wish id known about that. I joined the blue sentinels instead on this playthrough having finally talked to that guy so i never joined. Hahahahaha.

Secondly, i found out yesterday that you dont roll through or hit illusory walls like in ds1, but rather have to press a. Im at the shrine of amma and i was wondering ehy this game didnt have any illusory walls besides what the pharros stones showed. Ive freaking missed out! Not to mention the exploding barrel walls as well. Sheesh.

Last. If it hadnt been for someone offhand mentioning adp i wouldve avoided it like the plague seeing how resistance is worthless in ds1. Luvkily you lovelies said something. I was wondeeing why this game had such a difficulty spike until i realised it was due to the champions thing but also that rolling didnt mame you as invincible as it did in dark souls1 you cant roll through things as easy and somethings you just simply couldnt. Ive raised it to 25 and now feel like dodging is a good way to deal with enemies.

What's the canon ending of Dark souls 2

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 04:51 AM PST

    (First a little rambling)

I have been wondering for a while now. A lot of people might not agree with this but personally I believe the canon ending of Dark souls 1 is the player character using his soul to fuel the first flame and the canon ending of Dark souls 3 is the ashen one letting the first flame die out. I like to believe that Dark souls 1 is kind of a start of age while Dark souls 3 is the end of it and Dark souls 2 is like a small even occurring between these. This may be a very shit analogy but I like to think of Dark souls 1 as the story of the first man on earth while Dark souls 3 is the story of the last man on earth. Dark souls 2 is about a famous guy say Steve Jobs who may have done something monumental in his time but in reality, doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. So that's why its a bit difficult to pinpoint the canon ending in ds2 because ultimately it doesn't matter what we decide to do. So I want your opinions on what do you think would be the canon ending. (Sorry if this all over the place I am new to reddit)

    Mytha is hard

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 11:26 AM PST

Yes, that's what you read in the title.

I always thought Mytha was easy, but I decided to take the right test, I did it with a level 40 character (I don't remember, but I had a considerable life) with the weapon +0, so if the boss was easy I would remain alive for a long time, that's not what happened.

I died over and over again, and realized she has a good moveset. I think the reason people find most DS2 bosses easy is because the player can get strong very fast in the game, and to contribute, bosses don't have that much life.

The best way to test whether a boss is difficult or easy is to have a +0 weapon or keep dodging as much as possible without damage, so you can see how long you can stay alive (imo)

Finally got Platinum on DS2 SOTFS!

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 05:47 AM PST

I finally did it! Praise the Sun! Took me 200+ hrs definitely not the fastest out there but I love it the DLCs were enjoyable but Speed running to get past Shrine of Winter in NG++ was a pain tho.

    Question about Straight Swords

    Which stats are for them?

All of their scalings are low. Can they hit hard as a S scaling Rapier with 40 Dex?

Where do you think Dark Souls 2 went wrong

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 10:20 AM PST

I am not saying Dark Souls 2 isnt a good game or that it cant be your favorite souls game but its hard to deny that its considered the black sheep of the souls family. So what do you think From did which sets it so apart from the other installments. Personally I think where the went wrong was when they thought the appeal of the souls game was that they were difficult.

    It all makes sense now.

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 07:56 PM PST

I would watch videos of this game, and people had 500k+ souls and I was always like how are they going into the boss with that many souls? I get to the end of ng+, where for me next levels are almost 300k, and I finally understand. Souls become less important as the game goes on. Just so weird to me that I carry a few hundred thousand souls with me.

I just finished ds1 and am 5 hrs into this game

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 06:21 AM PST

I like it so far I'm playing scholor of the first sin. But I have a few things I dislike about it

    1. The movement is odd and I don't think that my roll gives me invincibility frames? That might be me but like idk

    2. What's up with the actual Hollowing I think it's a really cool idea but like I can't seem to get enough of those human effigies and I really hate having low Heath and ugly hair

3.uhhhhhhhh I don't have many other criticisms other than that I can't level up at a normal bonfire and I think that's weird and I only have 2 estus flasks like what the heck I had like 15 or more constantly

Yeah that's my criticisms dark souls 2 from a person who is 5 hours into it

    Edit: I'm on PS3

Does using an Ascetic on a bonfire move Dark Chasm of Old to NG+2

    Posted: 19 Nov 2019 06:14 AM PST

Specifically, I'd like to use an Ascetic on the Shaded Woods so I can get the Southern Ritual Band from Najka, but I don't want to make my life miserable fighting Darklurker later on (especially since the Woods is the Chasm I like to do last). Do I need to wait?

    Can Someone Please Explain Powerstancing

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 06:39 PM PST

So I have a few questions about powerstancing as someone who has never played this game.

    1. What exactly did it do? My understanding is that it allowed you to use the full one-handed moveset of a weapon even if it was in your off hand (unlike in DS3 where the off hand weapon only has R1 and either block or parry). Is this correct?
    2. Was it intentional? The explanations I've heard are all something like "attempt to two hand your left hand and you will see your off hand weapon go slightly away from your body." Is this a weird glitch that ended up being a big feature or was it actually deliberately put in the game as a mechanic, and if so was it explained or left for people to figure out?

Answers would be appreciated since I've been confused about this for months.

A couple of reasons why ds2 wasn't as accepted as the others in the series(APART FROM THE OBVIOUS)

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 02:25 PM PST

Tl:dr safe level design. Dodgy aiming system.

So I wanna start by saying ds2 is my favourite out of the 3. I love the story, I love the variety and I adore the lore (poet know it etc etc)
I'm aware of the big reasons why people didn't take it to it as much as the other games, like adp and the floaty feel to the combat system, not to mention promises of what it was going to be originally. Let's put those to one side while I point out some less obvious reasons.

One thing Ive noticed is the level design is quite safe. What I mean by that is ds1 was willing to try some risky stuff like having a whole area completely pitch black and only 3 light sources available which were spread all over the game. Then there was the crystal caves which had completely invisible floors. Not slightly visible with ghost Tint but completely fucking invisible. There was a way you could see with the condensation dropping from the cave roof but it was still difficult to do and I remember the tension I felt traversing that level the first time, and even on consecutive playthroughs. I get that for everyone who loved these level designs, probably 2 people hated it but I put it to you that it's still MEMORABLE. These were anxiety inducing situations which made the gameplay tense and exciting. Ds2 kind of fell on it's face in this aspect to me. I love the way the areas look in ds2, I do. But I hardly have any memories of my first playthrough like I do with ds1. I think the second half of the game is definitely better than the first half. Where as it's kinda the other way around with ds1. Like after you get to drangleic castle is where I start to love ds2, it's amazing. Shrine of Amana, the dragon aerie, undead crypt. Fantastic areas, but still very Safe in terms of gameplay. Second a specific thing about the combat system, especially with the greatswords and ultra greatswords, the aiming lock on and heavy weapons are kind of broken. I thought it was me at first and I was doing something wrong but everytime I'd swing my fugs it'd go in the opposite direction, which is pretty frustrating and make or break in boss battles. I suppose you could argue that it's realistic that when you used heavy weapons the aiming would be extremely difficult but it wasn't like this in ds1 so I don't see why they would change something that wasn't broken to begin with.

Again, I love ds2. I love how they implemented their lore in particular, tying it in to the first game in a less obvious manner while at the same time managing to maintain it's own story, which is also as engaging and as mysterious as ds1. I dislike when YouTubers will leave out ds2 when explaining lore on the grounds it doesn't really tie in to the other 2 games. But it does and those that say otherwise need to play the game again and go deeper.

I also absolutely adore dual wielding and powerstancing, plus the variety of weapons with which you can try out those two mechanics with.

I think if the combat system was the same as ds1 and they'd been a bit more risky with their level design (did you notice how many areas have straight pathways, a lot of the time) and perhaps adp had been explained better, ds2 would have been a monster of a game and loved as much as ds1 is. Personally I've put more hours into ds2 than the others and it is my favourite, make no mistake. I just think it could have been perfect by just taking the things ds1 got right and using them.

Each game had it's pros and cons at the end of the day, I just don't see why ds2 had to change some of the ideas and systems already in place, but I commend it at the same time for at least trying to be different and not more of what we already had.

Thank you for you time if you got this far.

    Advice for Darklurker?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2019 04:01 PM PST

Can anyone help me out with some tips for getting past the Dark Chasm of Old and defeating the Darklurker? I'm at my wits end with this Covenant. I need Climax and the Hex that is made from Darklurker's Soul for the Platinum. I have the three dungeons cleared and the beacons ignited so it is only a matter of defeating the NPCs and getting to the boss.

I am NG++ and SL 253 and I am willing to respec my stats if needed. I run a Strength Build with Sunlight Blade as my Faith Spell in order to buff my Lightning Zweihander.

Any advice on what weapons, armour, literally anything that is useful versus Darklurker and the minions beforehand? Also I take it the Drangleic Castle portal is the best one to travel from?

    Thanks in advance, Skeletons!
