Has From Software ever explained their logic/ideas in DS2 or responded to players' complaints?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 06:50 AM PST

I love DS2, it would be fascinating to read the progress of From Software creating DS2, how they decided on the story, why/how they decided on certain gameplay mechanics or enemy placement, why did they decide to change the ADP from DS1, how did they keep the lore consistent, etc, etc. Basically behind the scenes thing.

And have they ever reacted publicly to players' frustrations?

Anyone else, when first fighting rotten, thought that those statues would start shooting the shit out of us when entering the room of/fighting rotten?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 09:36 AM PST

I was replaying it from scratch and when I noticed those statues I remembered the moments of my first playthrough where I thought they would start shooting anytime soon

Weapons you like that are also kinda trash

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 01:20 PM PST

I'm well aware that pretty much every weapon in the game can be effective in the right hands and build, but there's definitely ones that are more inherently useful than others. However, sometimes these lesser weapons have something about to them that you may find strangely appealing despite their overall inferiority, and since reading the opinions of others is fun I wanted to see what your "guilty pleasure" weapons are.

My personal choice is the Pursuer's UGS. despite being vastly outclassed by a majority of other weapons of it's type in terms of damage and moveset, there's one quality this thing holds over them, and that's FASHION. It's, to put it simply, one of the sexiest looking weapons in the game in my opinion and honestly that's enough reason for me to use it

Are you completely satisfied with DS2?

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 11:53 AM PST

I am completely satisfied, I see very few problems in the game, I feel that the decisions they made about how to cut content and assemble maps make DS2 as it is today.

Maybe he could have a better world design, but that would sacrifice lore and replay factor, maybe he could have better transitions, but at the time, at the moment, it was the best they could do ...

What problems get in your head while you play?

How rare is it for Flame Salamanders to drop Great Fireballs? I've killed 10 so far and only gotten Cracked red eye orbs

I have gotten to the Shrine of Amana so far so I don't have access to the Symbol of Avarice to boost my item discovery.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to that NPC for his assistance in fighting Sinh, the Slumbering Dragon. With his help, I killed him on NG+ on my second try, even though my Blue Flame broke during that battle.

God bless this brave warrior. Umbasa.

Thank you random invader who dropped lot of valuables

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 03:40 PM PST

Today I was roaming around the cardinal towersd.

And usual, was getting my ass kicked by the evil ones, got ganged up by three turtle armored monsters and went to the first stage of hollow form.

I put down my small summon sign hoping someone will take my help, so I can gain my humanity. No one summoned me.

And then, I got invaded. I didn't know I could be invaded when not in human form. I desperately tried to banish this person with one if the Crystal's. But I dont think it worked.

    He came to me.

Now I had no option, I had to die honorably.

I bowed. I wanted him to land the first blow.

But both of us seemed hesitant. I thought, may be he wants me to start the fight. So, I hit him once with the fire sword I picked from the caves below. Then waited for him to strike me down and suck my spirit out.

And then I started noticing floating weapons and armors. This person who invaded me started dropping his items. Extremely great and valuable items, which have been reinforced by shards, over and over. Lot of them have been reinforced over 10 times. I got very happy. I was secretly scared that what I am doing is wrong. I collected a lot these items.

I signalled him to stop. Saying there is "No way" I am taking all these items. But that didn't stop the man.

Thank you kind Sir Bygtymer. May your destiny be fulfilled. Praying I do not get arrested by guards, getting caught with stolen items.

About a certain jarring transition in DS2

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 02:32 AM PST

Do you think that Brightstone cove and Iron peak would flow better if they switch places?

I mean Brightstone cove is pretty similar in color and style to Earthen Peak and Harvest Valley and going to a lava castle from a cave area would feel much more natural than what we have now

This game is cheese. (Not really "tough but fair")

    Posted: 30 Nov 2019 07:43 AM PST

Does anyone remember that old game "Dragon's Lair"? You went through and memorized the sequence of inputs to get through the story. I loved that game, but it didn't pretend to be "live action".

After playing 20 hours in this game, I've discovered that DS2 isn't much different. In lots of the "trash" encounters, the fighting mechanics are "tweaked" so that certain things don't work, or have a low% chance of working.

An enemy will be positioned next to a wall and the first time you reach the encounter, you can swing your sword at him and kill him. The next time you meet him, your sword bounces off the wall and he is invulnerable to that form of attack and you find yourself stun locked and die.

It lulls you into a false sense of accomplishment, and subsequent runs it changes the parameters so that what you did in the previous run won't work. That is why people keep dying. Until they discover a reliable solution for each individual encounter.

What previously was a low level mob, now he has a special move and is invulnerable allowing him to stunlock and kill you.

I don't think its "tough but fair". I think alot of the encounters are "cheese".

You have to learn the correct sequence of actions. Rather, you have to learn which of your actions will be "cheesed" (don't work properly or will be countered in this specific encounter.)

Its not about learning "how to fight", but about discovering and remembering which of your actions will be "cheesed", and finding an approach that gives a reliable 100% solve for each encounter.

Mechanics are too janky and give it away.

The "ganks" that people discuss are just one kind of cheese.
