    Proud knight

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:40 AM PDT

I have been through this game x amount of times, but not so much through Oolacile. If you're like me you know that you can just dash through that first part till you encounter Kalameet, and go over an obstacle that'll get you close to the elevator to Artorias. The items in this area are negligible at best, twinkling titanite if you haven't bought any from the giant in Anor Londo, purple moss If the guardian poisoned you.

There's one item in here that means the most to me.

On a cliff overlooking the forests, waterfalls lies at rest a proud knight. Stripped naked, hollowed, everything pillaged from him cept' his soul. I don't know how this knight got here, but it's a beautiful place to rest. The sun shining down in eternal dusk, or dawn. The rustling of the forests and the dripping river beneath help filter out the quiet.

No matter what, they can never take your soul.

So I finished dark souls for the first time last week...

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 03:28 AM PDT

I had purchased Dark Souls 1 a few years ago and played it until I got to Blighttown. I stopped playing because I couldn't figure out what to do or where to go it was all just confusing. I played through Bloodborne completely and really enjoyed the game so I decided to come back to Dark Souls.

I played it non stop over the weekend. It was such an amazing and enjoyable experience even with the countless deaths I had. I love how a lot of the areas in the game are connected to each other and how there's different ways of getting to places it's really clever actually.

I'm really glad that games like this exist and I can't wait to play the rest of the Souls games and Sekiro.

I made a Giant Dad for PvE.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 07:05 AM PDT

I'm gonna be honest, I did it mostly for the memes. I didn't really know what the spec was all about, or what to expect damage or playstyle-wise. All I knew going in was that Giant Dad was created in the deepest recesses of the Duke's Archive for PvP, but I'm not into PvP so what even is this.

First up, I had to learn what the spec was all about. It turns out it's mostly all about Endurance. Gotta get those numbers up to 66! So after getting my Str/Dex right to weild the mighty Zweihander, it was all End all day. This means I was running through most of the game with base health, which was, not great.

Next up, the gear. I knew my look wouldn't be complete until Anor Londo, but there was plenty to do in the mean-time.

First challenge, Mask of the father. The plan; pop a humanity and make my way to the Paladin Leroy summon sign, quit and pop a save on usb, and save scum Pinwheel kills until the right mask drops. This took the better part of an hour and a half.

Second challenge, the rings. This was actually pretty easy. Free Lautric, go backstab Havel to death, then get back to firelink and pancake L-dog. Turns out NPC opponents are HELLA EASY with a Zwei. Rings got.

Third challenge, get giant. This actually ended up not being that bad. Since I started with the master key I was able to skip Depths and a LARGE annoying chunk of Blighttown. I wasn't doing loads of damage to bosses, but I used NPC summons to help me out. I ended up running strait through Sen's without dying somehow, and Iron Tarkus and I made the Golemn look STUPID. The archers were not mean, as they tend to be, and let me through without killing me. Then I hopped the rail on the spiral staircase, ran straight to the giant blacksmith, and became giant. I also bought all the twinkling titaninte I needed to get all the pieces to +5.

Fourth challenge, upgrade the Zwei. Pretty strait forward. I just bought all the titanite I needed to get it to +5, then used the one green titanite shard I'd found to upgrade it to Fire. After that I made my way to Sens and just bought all the greem tits I'd need to get Fire Zwei to +5. After that I rushed back down to kill Ceaseless Discharge and ducked and weaved around demons to die in lava to get the chaos ember. Turns out I ended up with 2 red chunks and was able to get it to Chaos +1 at this point, then when I got to Izaleth it was just a matter of snagging all the red chunks laying around, farming the Chaos Eaters, and picking up the red slab underground and BAM. +5 Chaos Zwei complete.

Now at this point I am basically Giant Dad. I went back and got my Fire Hand and upgraded it to essentially +21 and doubled up on Combustion, but I haven't cast it even once. I fought O&S by myself and ended up one-shotting them, which was nice. I never really felt panicked like I typically do in that fight. I even ate a Lightning-Smoug butt slam. Left on the docket were Bed of Chaos, 4 Kings, Seath, and Nito.

Bed of Chaos isn't really something your build matters for. That said, I one-shot it. I'm as surprised as you are. Turns out being a +5 Giant makes you pretty hardy, so the dumb fire AoEs and branch slaps really only tickled.

Next up was 4 kings, which meant killing a good boi. My wife was watching this fight and cheered every time the doggo got a hit in. "Why are you hurting him!?" she'd say as I countered. The puppers died and she left in a huff. I noticed the fight was pretty easy. Again, I wasn't doing a ton of damage, but Sif couldn't really hurt me. Same with the 4 Kings. I basically face tanked them, never dodged, and only had to estus once each between Kings.

Seath was a non-issue, as usual.

With Nito up I made my way through the Catacombs and Tombs without issue. 'Ol trusty Leroy got pancaked, I was one-shotting everything with leaping R2s, and I walked through the fog wall at half health after not estusing a single time. That turned out to be a bad call as I dropped in and ended up at like 2% health. As I slowly brought a refreshing Sunny D up to my parched lips, Nito red bladed me in the groin and killed me. I made my way back at full health only to realize that the ground sneak-attack does almost no damage. His big AoE blast only does about 15%-20% or so as well. I eneded up completely ignoring his adds and spammed r1 the entire fight and used maybe 4 estus charges before he dropped.

So now I'm at Gwen, I've ground all the way up to level 99 to have the full spec, and I'm looking down the barrel of the DLC. In my opinion, this is a VERY strong PvE build. The damge output won't blow your skirt up, but it's enough to kill bosses before they get too rowdy. Plus you're basically un-killabe and can poise through most incoming attacks to land your R1 spams. It's honestly the most easy-mode spec I've ever played. I haven't even added the Pyro stuff into the mix yet, but I get the feeling that's mostly a PvP thing.

If you guys see Giant Nate around, give me a wave.

    Bonewhee lord of spinder

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 09:20 PM PDT

He died for our spins. He is the true lord of cinder and Gwyn is a fake. Bonewheel loves you, and Bonewheel puts you through his trials to test your faith, but you never pass because you never meet the all mighty Bonewheel himself. In fact Gwyn lying is the first sin

    Accidentally used Fire keeper soul.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:59 AM PDT

My flask is +1 and the fire keeper at the shrine disappeared and I saw "use item". I thought oh does this work the same way? It clearly doesn't. So do I have to wait until NG+ to upgrade it to max? Spoilers are fine I've been reading DS lore well before I began to play it

    Seath is weird confirmed

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 12:15 AM PDT

Seath decided that the Moonlight Greatsword needs to he located in his Butt. And I've heard that Lautrec and Patches tried to steal the Burgundy Chunder from Seigmeyer, and then Seigmeyer ate it and went Super Saiyan, but it made him Thicc because it had literally a bajillion Souls in the form of Carbs.

Just finished my first play through using the zweihander, looking to do a second, any cool weapon recommendations?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 06:07 PM PDT

So I finished the game and I'm a bit disappointed.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 05:59 PM PDT

I already knew gwyn was gonna be piss easy, but holy crap it was easier than I thought, even with my horrible parry timing I rarely failed one, and havel's armor or any heavy armor made me basically immune to any stagger he might have given me. Top that off with 30 vitality and suddenly he's almost as easy as seath was

Anyone got some advice for the Knight Artorius DLC fight?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:48 PM PDT

After seven years I think I'm finally going to beat Dark Souls!

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:30 AM PDT

My first character back in '12 was a Dex/Faith build and when I got to TotG I hit a major wall. My only light source was the skull lantern and I didn't have any fire to make things easier on me. I forced myself to push through it, though, and eventually made my way to the second bonfire. That's where the wall popped up on me like one of those damned bone tower enemies. My navigational skills are pathetic by default, so combining that with the fear of bumping into the giant skeleton dogs and not having a proper light source beat me into submission.

I made it to Nito once and getting there involved going the wrong way and unknowingly looping back to the area by the second bonfire where the lower path towards Nito is. I didn't know where that split path was located so after Nito and his boney boys wrecked my shit, I went the wrong way from the bonfire every subsequent time. Eventually, I had had enough and warped out to grind for souls and titanite.

When I warped back to TotG and it put me at the first bonfire I deleted that character and started a new one. At that point I lost interest in beating the game. I spent the rest of my time enjoying the multiplayer as both a Sunbro and invader. I never went back into TotG.

This past Friday, though, on the Switch version, I did it using a Dex/Int/Pyro build! I could see where the hell I was going and being able to hurl fire helped me out immensely. It feels John Goodman to have conquered TotG after all these years, but I honestly dislike the area and Nito even more now.

I still have a long journey ahead, with Duke's Archives, lower New Londo, Painted World, Lost Izalith, and Oolicile waiting for me. Oolicile is the only place I haven't been to before and everywhere else besides the Archives and Painted World is relatively easy. Gonna take a moment to praise the sun before busting out of the Archive's prison cell.

    Seeking Pre-Game Lore

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:11 PM PDT

Hi guys. I'm playing through DS1 at the moment and I'm looking into the lore of the game as I'm playing. The problem is that much of the lore seems to pose a danger of revealing spoilers. I'd like it if there was some kind of lore that will give me a richer understanding of the prologue/setting without actually revealing any in-game events.

Can anyone help me by providing links etc?

    Many thanks!

Humanity Count Resets for Quelaag's Sister?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 02:43 PM PDT

I originally gave around 8 humanity to Quelaag's Sister, then joined another covenant (Alvina), then came back and gave around 23 humanity after rejoining the covenant. I gave another 7 and she still has not opened the path.

Does anyone know if the humanity count resets after leaving the covenant, or if I need any specific things in order to get the door open? I have farmed a ton of humanity over many hours and still can't get the cursed door open.
