Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread!

Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play!

For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls

Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games.

Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned:

    Dark Souls: Remastered

    Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

    Dark Souls III

    Our recommendations for safe modding

*This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account.

    Basic Steps:

    Make a separate Steam account

Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library.

Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory.

Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation.

Set Steam to "off line" mode.

Install the mods and perform any necessary setup.

Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods!

Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!

Useless Fun Fact: Artorias' Grave has English Letters on it. It's Still Just Garbled Nonsense.

I did my best to try to see if I could make the letters more prominent in Photoshop, but it was clear enough it's just some nonsense.

It makes me a bit sad. The letters hyped me up, but I don't think "DRANG ANGEL LIKE LAST UISTV WIWDA" means anything.

Not too fond of the Duke's Dear Archives.

Entrance: Just a walk way with armored boars. They don't even fit the area, why are they there?

Way to the first Seath encounter: loads of crystal soldiers and one channeler, just in case the crystal soldiers don't do enough damage already.

First Seath encounter: If you don't equip a ring that prevents bloodstains or if you die on your way back into the room, say good bye to all the souls and humanities that you collected to this point. This is the most unfair b*llsh*t in the history of the Souls series.

Prison: Out of all the prisons in the Souls series, this one has to be the worst. Just a tower with stairs.

Crystal Caves: No real threats here, a bonfire before the Seath fight would have been good, because if you die you have to walk quite a bit to get back into the Bossfight. It's just a waste of time.

Seath: Boring boss and if you are melee you can barely see his attacks and get hit out of nowhere. Plus getting the tail cut is terrible, if you are not hitting the tip of the middle tail you get nothing.

Your favorite Dark Souls community videos

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 02:44 AM PDT

I recently got into the series and am loving all the community made videos and animations I'm finding! I've seen so much Vaati, Fighter.PL, Iron Pineapple, Hawkshaw, ThePruld, and other videos. (Many are in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc0pZXEpngFLhzE2zJdcZfuz2SnvdhyAC&app=desktop)

I want to enjoy all the good ones :) What are your favorite Dark Souls videos?

Anyone know what happened to the MoonLight Butterfly cinematic channel?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 04:18 PM PDT

Today I noticed that Moonlight Butterfly, a youtube channel that made a huge amount of voice line recordings, as well as cinematic videos of DS1 thorugh 3, and bloodborne, isn't on youtube anymore. Does anyone know what happened, and if they took the channel down themselves or had it removed for copyright? Their Dark Souls The Movie series is one of my favorite things for showing non-fans the mood, story, and feeling of the games without them needing to play it themselves, plus they are the only creator to have high quality rips of Vendrick's dialog from DS2.

Where the heck am I supposed to go?

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 02:28 AM PDT

So I stumbled my way through Blighttown, killed Quelaag, rung the second bell (yes I got the first one), stumbled through Demon Ruins, and killed the big fire boss thing that opened up the lower path. Here's my problem. I'm far too underleveled to pass through. The Taurus and Capra Demons are kicking my ass. The only other areas I know of to progress are Darkroot Garden, where you use Crest of Artorias (which I spent over an hour farming for enough souls to buy), but the NPCs here keep killing me (the Forest Covenant guys). I know Sif is past them, but if I can't get past them, how the hell could I take on Sif?

Anyway, besides that part of Darkroot and Demon Ruins, the other place is the Fortress, beyond the gate by Andre. I barely touch the two Serpent Men that are there, and am scared to even attempt that place - especially with all the environmental things that could kill me.

    I'm currently level 49. Vitality - 24 Endurance - 29 Strength - 23 Dex - 14 Resistance - 10 (Attunement, Intelligence, and Faith are stats I'm not working on, hence why they aren't listed).

I'm currently using Black Knight Shield and Drake Sword, and my equipment is: Gold-Hemmed Black Hood, Elite Knight Armor, Balder Gauntlets, and Gold-Hemmed Black Skirt.

Now, before the "git gud" memes roll in, is there any useful advice someone could give me? What should be my next destination? What equipment should I be using instead? Any help is appreciated...I don't want to only play the easiest game of the trilogy (I've beaten 3 about twice with new characters, and am now working on a third) and would like to be able to beat this one.

EDIT/UPDATE: I managed to get to where the Forest Covenant is and now the NPCs there aren't attacking me. Yay!

What do you do with excess souls?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 02:43 PM PDT

I've accumulated about 900k souls and I don't want to level up anymore. What should I spend these souls on? Are there any "must have" vendor items for pvp?

Let me know what you guys cash in for when you have way too many souls.

    IRL Artorias Greatsword

    Posted: 21 Oct 2019 01:30 AM PDT

I have a question about an IRL version of Artorias' Greatsword and how it's been made over and over again. We all know that the Souls series makes the weapons thicc af in the blade so that it can be seen or whatever and that's typically how the sword gets made IRL. This results in the sword being extremely heavy and impractical as hell. So how much would it weight if one were to make the same exact sword except for the blade's thickness being that of a similar IRL Greatsword with a normal practical thickness. Would this sword still be unwieldy or would it actually be something to have fun with?

ToTG is worse than Lost Izalith

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 09:04 PM PDT

Dunno why but I just feel like I'm in the minority here, but I have seen alot of peoples issues with ToTG. Figured I would just share my thoughts.

ToTG really has nothing going for it whatsoever. I felt like this with a majority of the last areas but with this area it's just bad. The Complete bleak darkness makes no sense to me since Demon Ruins is right below and could easily light the caves up just a smidgen. Now i know if you go to Lost Izalith and get a headpiece you'll be able to have a light. The skull lantern is fine but not having a shield in this area kind of blows. The Skellies in this area drive me up a damn wall. Especially the doggos but i think the biggest offender of the area is the tomb with the 7 or so Giant Skellies, and the Pinwheel room. Once i found out there was nothing of value here i just blazed through. Fought one disappointing boss in Into and moved tf on.

Now Lost Izalith. While I know was lazy and rushed by due to publishing wanting the game out sooner, I feel like this area couldve been really special. Enemy placement is horrendous with the 7 Taurus Demons in the ruins. Ceaseless Discharge being so ridiculous. More Taurus Demons, a reskinned boss, etc. The centipede demon was actually a decent boss imo but the arena was ehhh. The ridiculous amount of bounding Demons drove me up a wall and the bed of chaos was a nightmare. I really wish we could've fought more of the daughters on chaos as that would've been a little more unique but damn. This area is just disappointing. But unlike ToTG, i feel as though if this area had more time it really could've been special.

well.....I guess the frustration was somewhat worth it (Sens Fortress Titanite demons)

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 08:59 PM PDT

First 2 were easy to take care of. Second two were absolute hell.....more specifically the one right by the door. 2 hours and I finally got the bastard, and lucky for me, he dropped a catch pole.

I seriously can't imagine tangling these bastards on NG+ or higher......at least not those 2

How the hell do you fight the twin Sanctuary Guardians in Oolacile sanctuary?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 12:10 PM PDT

What is something that you had to learn in the game by sheer frustration+trying new things?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 11:14 AM PDT

I'm talking about scenarios where you just realize something isn't working and you just said "oh, you know what, fuck it I'll do whatever and see if it works... hey, it did."

I remember how in Dark Souls, while I was attempting to defeat the Taurus Demon in the Undead Burg I just couldn't do it because I hadn't adapted to the combat system quite yet. So I kept trying but each time I tried I had to kill everything in my way, which was only logical, right? Until I realized that I didn't have to fight them, I could just... run away. Once I tried I had a big laugh because...well shit, it worked! And I killed the Taurus Demon a few attempts later which was so amazingly rewarding, it felt like I was a step closer to climbing to the top of the mountain that was the end of the game. I just felt relieved that I had both learned and defeated something impossible.

    Dark Souls newb

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 01:35 PM PDT

Hey there! Today I've decided to buy Dark Souls Remastered and to give it a proper try (previously tried it but due to low fps on my pc I gave up). But now I return to it and would like to hear what tips long-time players, veterans or about anyone could give me in my adventure throughout the game!

For some background information I am not exactly new to the series - actually the opposite for I have played Bloodborne but my experience there I feel does not assist me fully in Dark Souls. For me its a rough adjustment from the lightning-quick aggressive combat to Dark Souls... its not particularly slow but it ain't got the same kick as it and because of that I've found myself dying several times to monsters. And well I am overall rusty since its been a while since I've beaten Bloodborne.

Anyway thanks for taking your time reading this if you did lol.

    Tips for DS1?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 03:47 PM PDT

So I picked up DSR (despite the backlash it's seemed to accumulate) after experiencing ds3 and getting a lot of mileage out of it. Obviously the game is much more sluggish than I was used to with ds3, and I'm wondering if there re any other mechanic tips ya'll can throw my way? Currently I just got past the two gargoyles and have my sights on a strength build (i got lucky with a dark knight Greatsword drop early). Any armor sets I should look out for? Thanks.

Edit: besides DS3, my only other experience with souls likes are Nioh, so I'm definitely having some difficulty with the slower pace.

    So i have an issue...

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 07:28 PM PDT

So thisnis my first time playing dark souls( im loving it) but i seem to have come to a bug that wont let me progress. Im in the undead parish, and i want to start by saying that ive been past this point already, but then the game like... uninstalled itself from steam. And then it reinstalled and saved my progress, but it was like the save was from a while before i had gotten to this point. So i assumed it didnt save right once, and went on with playing. But then i got to this ladder, and it just wont let me walk ip it, no matter what i do. There is another ladder rhat i can walk up and down, and everything else works normal, but i cant climb up this ladder. The only other save i have is right at thw beginning. And i dont want to redo 6 hours of work, so how do i fix this? I use steam

Is this game still alive on Xbox360/one?

    Posted: 20 Oct 2019 06:57 PM PDT
