Hidetaka Miyazaki just became father, congratulation to him and his family!

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 10:44 AM PDT

He shared this beautiful event in an interview with GameSpot Brazil. There's also a lot of other interesting stuff, including him saying that Bloodborne is the favorite game he developed. Here's the link. You can translate to English and the interview is more than readable

Miyazaki had a very small meet and greet session on BGS (Brazil Game Show).

Only 30 people were allowed in, I was lucky enough to be one of them. Such an honor to meet him in person.

This game is bullshit. But it’s bullshit done right. Got you didn’t I?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 09:34 PM PDT

In all seriousness when I stop to compare the three games I genuinely think the first game has a lot more "bullshit" in it than the other two.

Between bullshit arenas, bullshit levels, and bullshit bosses, the first games really emphasizes on you the player being at a disadvantage.

So why then am I praising this game for being "bullshit" when most don't consider it a good thing?

It's because it's bullshit done well.

I'll use the first several boss encounters.

The asylum demon for any beginner is a confusing boss. You go in there expecting to have to fight I face to face and many probably don't realize there's literally door to just leave until your better equipped.

It makes you THINK you have to kill it with a sword that does 10 damage but those that pay attention to their surroundings are rewarded.

Taurus Demon it's just you and a colossal demon on top of a very thin bridge that is easy to fall off. If your lucky enough he'll fall off, but in most cases you take advantage of his long wind ups and his predictable move set. He isn't like some bosses that change things up on you. He does exactly what you expect him to do and that's how he gets you.

Those who learn to be patient are rewarded.

Capra demon is possibly one of the worst boss arenas ever created and it's very unapologetic about it. And yet it gives you all the tools you need to turn it around should you have the mind for it. That stair case wasn't just a random aesthetic choice, it was designed for you to use it to split up the dogs and the boss, and then cheese the boss.

Those who are creative, and think outside the box are rewarded.

The game is bullshit, and it doesn't bother to hide it even in the slightest. While the following games are general more forgiving with its level design, and instead compensate a more "fair" gameplay by speeding the combat up (because let's be honest throw champion gundyr in DS1 and the speed of the game just went from 0-100 real fast), the first game made it a point to make sure you were in the shittiest position possible, but reward you for being resourceful, patient, and cunning.

Well done dark souls. Your bullshit but that's why we like playing you.

Took me a year but I finally beat Dark Souls! (Remastered on Switch)

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 05:00 AM PDT

Here's the map I marked off all the bosses on once I beat them (plus some other random stuff too).

    https://imgur.com/a/1qLcSF4

Credit to the fextralife wiki page for actually making the map, credit to me for somehow not being able to put two snips of it together properly and covering it in red marks.

As you can see, I was pretty pleased with myself whenever I did, god that game is hard (but somehow still so good)!

    What’s your worst DS story?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 02:57 PM PDT

Here's mine. It happened just today actually.

I was fighting that freaky headless lightning statue at the entrance of Darkroot Gardens, with my sword coated with my last Gold Pine Resin so I could actually deal damage. It was slow going but I felt confident, I was gonna beat him… then suddenly this menu pops up telling me how I've been disconnected from the DS server, it takes a few secs to load and then it drops me back to the battle, except for one detail… my GPR had worn out (or was glitched out) point is, my weapon now did jack💩 against it. I soon die, respawn at the bonfire, and I don't have any GPR left. I thought "ok I'll just get some more and return" HA! If only. Turns out GPR is like, beyond rare and can only be obtained by a few NPCs for a limited amount. Fantastic.

Then I killed the Moonlight Butterfly, got the watchtower basement key and felt better.

Just completed Dark Souls 1 Remastered

    Posted: 11 Oct 2019 01:39 AM PDT

Took me 42 hours. Almost broke an xbox controller. Countless nights of frustration but I finally beat the game.Despite all that, the game was super addicting. I really enjoyed immersing myself in this world and fighting so many different types of enemies / bosses. My favorite bosses in the game were Sif, The Bell Gargoyles, Iron Golem, Quelaag, Asylum Demon,
and the Taurus Demon. The ones I didn't like were Capra Demon, Grave Lord Nito, Pinwheel, Stray Demon, Bed of Chaos, and lastly Orenstein and Smough... lol The rest were kinda meh imo. If i had one gripe about this game I would say that the story wasn't told in a very understandable way. I found myself looking up videos on youtube and reading the dark souls comics to put things together and make sense of the lore. Just wish they would've told it in the game better. Overall I would honestly give this game between a 8.5 - 9 rating. Just some things like Blight Town, That pitch dark dungeon, and running up Anor Londo against those Black Knights Snipers really soured the game for me to give it a perfect score.

I can definitely see the hype and praise people give this game and the rest of the soul series. This was my first introduction to this type of game and I'm glad to have finally played it :) . I'm not sure what to do now though. Play a new game+ or start up Dark Souls 2?

Lastly, I want to say RIP to the onion Knight. I accidentally hit him fighting a black knight and had to put him down lol.

    Pyromancer or Cleric.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 04:40 PM PDT

I'm trying very hard to beat the game for the first time right now. I'm about to restart to go through the first half without making all the mistakes I did this time and I'd usually go with pyromancer and go ham on fire spells and upgrading the flame, but I do like miracles as well and while I don't know how to get certain ones, such as Lightning Spear, I think the healing spells alone would help.

I guess my question is this: Should I focus on miracles to increase my chances thanks to the early heal spell or should I just stick to my usual routine and go with pyromancy, which I know a lot better?

What's your opinion on using guides?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 06:11 PM PDT

I remember finishing DS1 using Dumbshits guide to dark souls and I utterly enjoyed it but as of half way through dark souls 3 I can't help but feel terrible becuase I played the first game completely with a guide if I actually got the 'true' dark souls experience. Any thoughts are well appreciated ☀.

If this gem of a person happens to be on this subreddit I want to thank you so much for helping me get the gargoyle tail axe on my first run, I couldn't get it with solaire so I thought I'd summon and thought I'd be waiting hours. So to the man who dressed up as Artorius and joined me in jolly co-operation, thank you. (also got the gargoyle helm don't know if that's rare)

Dark Souls 1 Female vs Male framerate PS3

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 07:16 PM PDT

Rolling animations, I-frames, running, and several animations are different than the male characters, in a way that favors the female model. This is related to pvp. is this true?????

I've personally never played PS3 dark souls (or any dark souls for that matter) but I just would like to know for scientific reasons. My friend who brings this up has said "with independent study and the help of some friends that the female character in dark souls has sped up animations and other things, making a higher framerate."

one specific thing he said was 13 times he tested male and female rolling he was able to roll-catch the male every single time, and wasn't able to roll-catch the female once. I dunno this is just a thing I'm wondering if anyone else has studied.

(this is a summary in my own words of his words. they're talking about it in the background at the moment. if you need more detail from him I'll have him have actual input into this post, but for now this is just summary of his 'study' of the game)

Ever noticed how these guys suffer at your hands?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 03:49 PM PDT

Every time you parry and riposte a Silver Knight with a sword it will stab them in the balls for a quick emasculation, hurting them to the point they cuddle on the ground from the pain.

It basically impales them the old way and rips the humanity straight out of them.

That's a girlish move. Hit a man's unarmored spot because that's the fastest and most damaging way to end it.

You have no honor, you despicable...

    Slice of Dark Souls life

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 07:56 PM PDT

So my wife isn't into Dark Souls at all but for the first time last night she was asking me about the world and the story while I was playing and she really started to get into it, saying "It IS a really neat game...that I will never play." And then just a few minutes later I got killed by an ambush because it was an area I'd never explored before and there were no warning messages. She then said, "...and THAT is why."

I then gave my off the cuff thoughts. "You just have to take death less personally. In most games, dying says 'Wow, you really screwed up.' In Dark Souls, dying says, 'It's okay. That was normal. Now what did you learn?"

My friend says he's not enjoying DkSR anymore

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 03:48 PM PDT

It's his first time through the game and I'm accompanying him. He's using a broadsword, currently +7 in Sen's Fortress, and it takes him a ton of hits to kill the man serpents. He's upset that it takes him so long to kill the enemies but my +7 great scythe takes them down very quickly. He's pretty dead set on using a straight sword and shield, and fat rolling with the elite knight set. Obviously I don't want to police his playstyle but because of the way he plays I really don't know how to help him. I only ever fast roll and usually use larger weapons. Does anyone know what might help him do better and have more fun going forward? He's around level 50 and has been leveling strength and dex equally. Thanks.

Is Scorched Contract not on Remastered/Won't work with DSFix?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2019 07:03 PM PDT

So I wanna try scorched contract really bad, I recently found out about it and it looks like such a fun thing to try. In a way it's almost like playing for dark souls for the first time again.

But anyway, I can't seem to find a version for it on the remaster, next thing I tried was to download it on PTDE but with DSFix, and I cant seem to get it to work with DSFix. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a remastered version but I can't find it? I'm gonna be super bummed if I have to play it on 30fps :/
