I think the single most annoying thing about this game is attack’s doing damage to you long after they stopped moving.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 10:52 AM PDT

When the animation of an attack stops the ability for the attack to do damage also should stop. But a lot of attacks, attacks that slam the ground being the biggest offender, will still have their damage on after they've already hit the ground. It's like the animation isn't synced with the damage buff that weapons get when they are swung.

Games pretty good but it has a bit of spaghetti code if I'm being honest.

    Just lost 18,000 souls...

I had just beat the Royal Rat Vanguard and went down to where that rope bridge was, fell down, and got killed by the fire dudes b/c I had used my flasks in the fight. Went back and jumped off the bridge, at full health, and died because I forgot to reequip the ducking silvercat ring

Frigid Outskirts guide - Fighting one/two horses

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 06:07 AM PDT

Having just finished my NG+7 all bosses playthrough, I have finally taken the time to find a way to describe my route through this area. While I have used this route for roughly the last 5 NG's on my playthrough, the consistency for the second part is not super high on other characters (probably because of stamina variations and how blind it is). This guide is probably refinable, especially if someone can work out exactly what is causing the spawn situation I will outline.

    My game and setup

I play on the PS3 version of the game and do not have the full Scholar of the First Sin version (Aldia shows up but none of the other changes exist). To my knowledge nothing changes in the Frigid Outskirts in SotFS, so this should work either way, but it will be good to verify it.

My character with the greatest consistency on the second part of this route has 99 Endurance and 31.9% equip load (36.7/115.3, 50 Vit), leading me to believe speed is the key part to scrambling the second set of spawns.

    Guide

    1. Run to first building
    2. Position self on absolute far left tip of building (from the perspective of facing the second building) until the storm drops.
    3. Run at an angle of roughly 30º. There is two patches of dark snow on the slope, just before and left of the hollow and the item on the ground (some throwing knives). Run left of the most left patch of dark snow and keep going straight until the storm starts again. After about 5 seconds of this storm (possibly less) you are in a state where no horses will spawn and you can run however you wish.
    4. This is where it gets tricky, because you'll be running in zero visibility and thus have zero landmarks. My current working strategy is to wait the 5 seconds mentioned above and then try to flick the camera about 40º right, then run straight. Once the storm drops again, I direct my run to target around the back left of the third building and then run straight in that direction through the next storm. Moving as fast as possible is key here, since if you manage to get a decent distance past the second building you seem to maintain the state of no-horse for the next storm, giving you time to reach the third building without fighting a horse. If you get a horse on this second stretch, keep running to the building and fight it near the walls. This prevents any more spawning (you can't go inside because there's a Rampart Golem (or 2 in NG+2) and a Hollow that will interfere).
    5. I don't know if it's possible to avoid getting a horse for the final stretch but I don't have a problem fighting one horse in safe conditions so I haven't bothered trying to find a method here. Simply run the moment the storm comes and don't fight the horse that will come until you reach the dip down where the storm doesn't affect you. If in NG+2 or higher make sure to avoid going down to the bridge because this will lure the Rampart Golem along it to interfere with the fight, which is a nightmare. Kill the horse in this dip and then proceed as standard.

    Q&A

    How did you discover this?

I've killed Lud and Zallen something like 15 times (so who knows how many times I've been through this area), and I became frustrated at the inconsistency of taking the right wall route. Taking the direct buildings route sucks however, because of all the phantoms and other human enemies on the route. I found the first part of this route while dodging the hollow, because he kept messing with my horse fights. The tricky second part was a natural followup of me thinking 'well if I can dodge the horses for this section, why not try the same for the rest'.

Why have you killed Lud and Zallen 15 times? Are you mad?

Some kind of insane insistance of beating all the bosses every time. The Frigid Outskirts are a nightmare, the boss sucks, I just do it anyway.

What are the most important plot points/discoveries that about the souls lore in the game?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 11:15 AM PDT

I honestly didn't get the story the first time I finished the game. What are the most important points that are consequences of DS1, foreshadowing of DS3 or generally about the series itself?

    Revisiting the gulch, etc.

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 09:35 AM PDT

So I had to reinstall DS2 sotfs due to a problem with my pc a while ago and I've collected three great souls and now I have to go down the rabbit hole at Majula and endure the grave of saints, the gutter and then the Gulch.

I dunno, is it just me or did anyone else hate this section of the game? I didn't find it interesting at all. It was dark and annoying.

What’s the fastest swing on a weapon and which weapon is it?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 09:09 AM PDT

I'm at fume knight and it's a good boss I really like it, but his openings just aren't long enough to use greatswords and up. I'm sure it's possible and has been done before but it really feels like a crap shoot as to whether or not he'll give you the time to get a swing in. His longest opening just ain't long enough. So I decided to play smarter instead of harder and wanted to pick up a fast weapon. What's the fastest weapon, and what's the best variant of that weapon?

    Polite request

So one of my favourite things to do right now is to farm the Burnt Ivory King. I'm part of the Heirs of the Sun covenant and this is a great way to farm sunlight medals and help out players. Plus, the large number of souls you get for each fight is very nice.

However, while doing this, I have found that some players like to summon other players then banish them just before the Burnt Ivory King himself appears. This is really f*cking annoying. As a sunbro, I lose out on the sunlight medal and the extra souls for the kill.

I understand if you want to farm Loyce souls without killing the boss but please don't summon other players for this, it's really frustrating and is just a waste of time for them. We would rather be helping out players who legitimately need help killing the boss.

If you need help farming the Loyce souls, just use the 2 NPC summons and gather the other 3 Loyce knights.

    Rant over, thanks for reading

    My thoughts on this game

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 02:08 PM PDT

Just felt like sharing my experience. Will get to DS2 in just a bit, a quick history of my souls experience: I finished dark souls remastered last month. And when NG+ started I stopped the game, spun up a new character (this time going for a str buid) and played that one all the way through to the lord vessel.

Then I felt like going for DS2 ,since I was interested in the overarching story and wanted to find out what happens next. So far I've already played three characters and the furthest I've gotten is dragon aerie. For some reason the game compels me to stop and start with a new character just to try out the different builds. Gotta say , there is no other game that has made me behave this way. There breadth of possible build is truly insane, makes me wish I was around before miracles (lightning) were nerfed hard (I've read a bunch about it). Currently I'm on a knight build trying quality weapons. Decided to try out the caestus ... And holy shit it feels amazing. Powerstancing two +10 - a video game hasn't made me feel this badass in a long time. Not only PVE, but a lot of times even PVP it is crazy good. I don't know if it is just me catching people off guard, but the stun lock + unexpectedly high damage banishes invaders quite effectively. The NPC quests are awesome and I love that there are a few NPC that don't really have any quests or direct backstory and are just present at random locations as summons. I'm a but conflicted on the fact that they directed humanity from DS1 in favour of the human effigies. In my first couple of runs I was very nervous about using the effigies and did not know exactly how careful I need to be in spending them. But I've warmed up to it now and it is less painful than losing a large number of soft humanity like in DS1. The health loss was a real shock at first but the ring of binding makes life much easier and striking that balance between your effigies and health pool can be satisfying.

Some thoughts on what I've felt are the negatives about this game. I have mixed feelings on Majula - while it's definitely gorgeous , the NPCs there break me from the immersion quite a bit. For example, you may free Rosabeth and do the needful to move her to Majula after you've already got Carhilion in Majula, at this point if you talk to her in Majula, she will continue stating that she's in search of Carhillion , while the dude is a few meters away. She only states she finally found him after you've progressed to a certain stage in the game. Another one is the emerald herald: for someone you need to speak with very often , to say the same line about seeking souls in its entirety , seems like a weird decision by the developers. I get it... All NPCs have some line they use when you interact with them , the blacksmiths , Chloanne .. all of them , yes I accept. But the herald's line is a tad bit long and you speak to her way more often than any of the others. (Unless you are trying an SL1 run of course). Another gripe I have is the nature of ganks in some places. I understand ganks are a staple of dark souls , but some of the ganks in this game are just tiresome ; like the spiders in the lower brightstone bonfire. Yes I know I can use a torch and they scurry away , but the fun is when you sometimes get 'hit' when they try to jump dodge you as you walk by.

Ok that's all I have to say for now. Please hold back any spoilers beyond Aldia's keep :D . Thanks for reading!

TL;DR : game is amazing and the range of possible build is staggering... but I'd really like the emerald herald to stop greeting me with the same (long) line about collecting souls.

ISO Red Iron Twinblade for my build. (Please remove if not allowed)

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 09:07 AM PDT

Hey DS2 community! I'm seeking a Red Iron Twinblade for my current build. I wasn't aware that I didn't have access to the weapon until way later in the game.

I don't have much to trade, but I'm willing to trade a few +10 weapons for it!

    Thanks =)

    Is ng+ worth it

Does anyone else love the Skeleton Lords?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:06 PM PDT

Sure, it's one of the easiest fights in the game, but I fought them today on my second playthrough and was reminded of just how fun it is. You're constantly on the move, positioning yourself so you don't get cornered and tearing your way through hordes of skeletons. It's so different from other fights that are all about observing one powerful opponent and finding the right opportunity to strike.

I feel like this fight is underappreciated because of how easy it is compared to some other bosses, but I always look forward to it.

My game starts but I just see a black screen

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 07:40 AM PDT

I have a pc and as of a few weeks ago I'm not able to play DS2. The game starts up and there is sound for the main menu and I can select new game and continue, etc. but the problem is it's all black and it stays like that. Now I'm not able to finish the game.

I have the same graphics card that I've started the game off with and I have verified the game files a couple of times just to be sure and no luck. It's just been irritating me because I want to finish this fantastic game.

If anyone with the same issue that had this resolved has some helping words or even some advice would be appreciated. Thank you

    Build ideas?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 11:05 AM PDT

So far I've done hex, dex melee, and about 2 hours of a sorcerer. I got bored with sorcerer but I'm definitely willing to give it another try. I was thinking of doing a pyro/melee hybrid with the greatsword. Any other suggestions?

Off topic question. I heard the moonlight greatsword got a nerf from when it was OP but I've never been able to find info on it from after the nerf. Is it still good?

Played and beat all of Miyazaki’s modern titles but kinda confused about this game. Need some advice for a STR/FTH build or STR/Pyro (PVE).

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 02:50 AM PDT

So, I checked all the soft caps and such for this game but I'm completely new to DS2 on PS4 (kinda, owned it on XBONE when I wasn't a big fan of Soulsborne games) and I'm a lil confused as to how to allocate my stats and what I should prioritize first because I'm seeing some people cap their Vigor at 20, allocating Adaptibility to have Agi at 99 and keeping their Endurance lower than to what I'm used to seeing.

First, what's the level curve like in this game? AKA what's the average level that the semi-grindy players beat the game at? When I beat BB, DSR and DS3 I was around the 125-150 area but I'm seeing people go past that in a lot of the builds I look at. I wanna take this into account as I level up because I want to do a semi-tanky STR and FTH or Pyro build.

For reference; I've only ever played as a Dex/Pyro and Dex/faith with light armor in DS1&3, So I have an idea of how to pump up my DPS, magic and HP. I usually went with 45-50 DEX+Vigor and kept my carry weight rather mid to low. For weapon buffs I used stuff like Dark blade and lightning but after a while I just preferred using consumables because I tend to forget often that I can cast it lol.

I wanna try my hand at hammers, greatswords and greatbows. For faith, I pretty much only care for some medium healing and stuff like tears of denial. So, if you guys got some advice on what my stats should look like and what weapons to keep my eyes out for, that'd be great.

    Thanks.

    Sinh is kind of disappointing.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 04:45 PM PDT

I want to start off saying I'm not immune to reasoning. I try to be a pretty reasonable person. So I'll take whatever advise you give, and will head you out if you do actually LIKE this fight. But as for me, I think it's pretty shit.

I don't think any ONE thing is op, but stuff adds up and there's a lot that I personally feel is just bad design.

I feel like a boss of this size should move slightly slower. Maybe 75% maybe 70% of the speed he is at now. When he swings his arms really fast it seems a bit unreasonable to have him swing that fast, especially when it really hurts big time. It also just LOOKS out of place to watch.

Corrosive skin is also really annoying. It's an interesting mechanic but it's just adding more things to worry about, and it's not that it's HARD to counter, repair powder is a thing, but it just seems like a random thing they added at the end of their design. It's just one more thing.

His AI is the worst part. The above stuff is nothing I haven't had to deal with in the other 30-40 hours of gameplay, but AI like this isn't an every boss occurrence. He spends more time in the air than anywhere else. But beyond that he really REALLY likes to use the same move over and over again. And worst yet it's the one I can't block.

I do LIKE the moves he does in the air, especially the dive, but when that's 80% of the entire boss fight it's pretty lame.

Maybe there's something I just don't quite understand or a tactic I haven't thought of, but really just am not enjoying this particular fight. I'll take whatever tips you can give me to make this fight as easy as possible because at this point I just want to move on.

Edit: I also really like the poison fire part. I think that part of this fight is really well done.
