I just got summoned by the Looking Glass Knight

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:39 AM PDT

After trying for like 20 minutes, I finally got the summoning prompt. ''The Looking Glass Knight summons you as his squire!'' At that point, I was 90% focused on the podcast I'd been listening to. I immediately jumped and adjusted my posture, snickering to myself. The loading screen was fairly long. I disregarded all tips offered by the game, listening instead to the sounds of combat coming from the poor host's world. I come in and fortunately the LGK is still at half HP. The host and his sunbro don't seem to get it. Just another irrelevant NPC summon. I guess player invasions don't happen very often. But man oh man, did they make a mistake.

As soon as the broken shield birthed me into a cold and rainy night, I buried myself into the knight's groin and popped a Great Heal. That immediately got their attention. A boss HP bar doesn't suddenly just shoot up in numbers. Reinvigorated by my juicy miracle cast, the knight starts swinging at those bad boys and dishing out some thicc damage numbers. But the host and his summon didn't care about the boss anymore. They immediately recognized the rules of this new game. Kill me or get fucked by a Mirror Knight with 5 bars worth of HP. In this prolonged game of chicken, the Knight thrived. ''Squire, attend me!'' , the glistening bastard shouted at me. And attend I did, picking up his slack whenever he needed a leg up.

SWEET VICTORY, I CAN TASTE IT. The phantom falls first, caught mid-healing animation by a swing of the Knight's lightning-charged sword. The host starts panicking and charging at me. The Looking Knight was just below half HP, but after two casts of Great Heal, he was almost fully topped off.

But I came prepared to grief, and the Mirror Knight came out on top in this messed up game of attrition. As the Host's corpse dissipated in front of my eyes, I threw a ridged rock to the ground. ''I'm sorry!'' , the rock proclaimed with an unapologetically snide tone.

Another one. And another one. Despite it not even being my world, I showed the host some hospitality with the classic ''Welcome!'' emote. As of writing this post, I've been summoned 4 additional times, each time to great success. I would like to apologize to that one guy who had the misfortune of encountering me two times in a row.

And a warning to you guys. You seem like a chill bunch, I'd hate to see you griefed in the Drangleic Castle. Avoid my mirror boy's crib and you'll be just fine.

    The Craftsman's Hammer is ridiculous

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:10 AM PDT

I'm playing through my first strength-focused character and this hammer is a beast. Currently I have it at +2, but even at its base level it is so strong.

In my past experiences I struggled with the Ruin Sentinels, but last night I was able to take them down in one try. I entered the fog gate and made short work of the first sentinel. I did a two-hand plunge onto the second one taking off half(!) of their health, and then was easily able to destroy both without taking damage.

In addition to that massacre, this thing wipes the floor with the constant Pursuers. I can get them down to about half health before they're done spawning in.

I knew strike weapons were powerful in this game, but the Craftsman's Hammer takes it to a whole new level. My only regret is accidentally using a twinkling titanite on a shield thereby delaying further upgrades to this monster of a weapon.

    Just beat DS2

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 09:50 AM PDT

My adventure has come to a close for DS2 on my quest to play all of the FROM games.

Ended up going with a Str/Dex/Adp build and finished most of the end game with a Scythe+10 and wanderer's set. Was a really bloodborne-y way to play the game and ended up making sense with a lot of the baddies you fight in the end game. Overall, DS2 is an incredibly solid game and fits well in the catalogue despite its differences. I am going to look back on this fondly. I'm still feeling the lack of desire to play anything and just sort of bask in my victory for the moment.

On to DS3. Thanks for all the help while I was here!

So I'm going to play this game after 3 years

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:18 AM PDT

DS2 SotFS was my first Dark Souls game at least the first one I finished (I dropped first game after 10 or so hours it felt very clunky even back then). And I finally played DS3 and DS1 back to back (Mostly replaying DS3 because that game is amazing) and I decided that I should play this game again with a different starting class and go blindly again. My question is what class should I start with? I started as a Knight in my first playtrough that I turned into a dual wielding dex character later. Explorer class seems very fine to me because it has no advantage and every loot I find is incredibly meaningful as I started playing as Deprived in my most second runs.

And my other question is is this game has some good fashionsouls? Like I said it's been 3 years and I dont remember that much about armors except Faraam Armor because I searched for that armor troughout whole game and found it in very end areas :( Is there an armor set like Chester Set that will make me a true gentleman?

The monster that is the Drakekeeper Sword

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:54 AM PDT

Jesus Christ this weapon is amazing. Solid 400 AR with 40/40 and ROB +2 and consumes little stamina. Not only that, but it can be infused or slathered with resin to do even MORE damage. This thing wrecks PvE and PvP.

I think people over-exaggerate how badly Drangleic is connected.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:18 PM PDT

Something I see people make a huge deal about whenever they criticize Dark Souls 2 is how areas like the Iron Keep and Heide don't connect to the world in a logical way.

While this is indeed true, I have to say that this seems like a huge nitpick to me. I played Dark Souls 2 for years, but never actually noticed this until somebody else brought it up.

And they never mention that these are really the only areas that connect badly. All the other areas in the game generally connect in a convincing manner.

For Dark Souls 2 apparently being the "worst Souls game" (it isn't), people really need to go out of their way to criticize it, it seems!

    Just beat Dark Souls 2

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 11:50 AM PDT

It seems to be an unfortunate trend of mine to abandon the dark souls games after trying them out and then getting beat by everything. I had bought this game after I didn't have any luck with the first game, and tried my hardest to get into the game but nothing worked. About a month ago I had got into the dark souls remaster and was committed to see it through, then it all clicked and I had a blast through the whole game, and excitedly booted up dark souls 2 with my newfound love for the game. Dark souls 2 was very very rough to get into, and i can see why it got all the negative comments about it, but after i spent some time leveling adp and getting the ring of binding it started to feel a lot better to play. Once things started to fall into place I knew I needed to see this game through like I had the first, so i set out to defeat every single boss including all the dlc and secret bosses as i had done with dark souls 1. Killing all the bosses was definitely a bigger task in this game than the previous one and had some very challenging ones mixed in, with some of my favorites being the royal aegis and the fume knight. In the end I'm honestly glad that I stuck with the game through thick and thin, and i'm happy that my good experiences completely overshadow the rough start. Anyway i'm gonna continue my way through all the soulsborne games with Demon's souls next up on my list.

Dark Souls II isn't so bad??

Created a little website for school. AND got to choose everyone's favorite subject. I believe DS2 gets more hate than it deserves.

Been using a Falchion/Pyromancer build for most of my playthrough, but looking for higher damage weapons of the same general moveset now. Anyone got any ideas? (Infusion suggestions also welcome)

    I need some wise tips

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 12:38 PM PDT

If I fuse the morning star with lighting, will it still have bleed effect? Or should I say screw it and go with the Heide sword? Or what do you think I should do?

    Augur of Darkness by Vempire

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 12:15 PM PDT

After seeing this video, I'd just like to quickly make a post here seeing as no one else has about the Augur of Darkness mod by Vempire (same person behind Second Sin).

This is the first time I've seen proper map editing for DS2 and I really like what this means for the future.

What’s a good infusion for strength builds?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 07:15 AM PDT

In ds3 I understood infusion very well and how and why to pick which infusion. This is my first time infusing a weapon and I'm not sure what to pick.

    Fume Knight

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:44 AM PDT

Currently playing through the DLC, just got to Fume Knight and this dude has me more-or-less stumped. Usually the wiki has decent strats for bosses (broken down by recommendations per play style, confirmed weaknesses, effective damage types, etc.) but it pretty much just says "good luck" and lists strats that other people have used. My questions are: What has worked for you? What was your build type? What gear would you recommend? What was (or wasn't) fun for you about this boss? Any contribution helps and is appreciated, thanks!

Help me understand how infusions work

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 09:30 AM PDT

So, I just finished playing through DS1 and started my first play through of DS2. I decided to go Deprived so I could switch up my build easily if I got bored. I have found a bunch of infusion stones but I'm having trouble understanding how they work. From what I understand, Magic, Fire, Lightning, and Dark all scale off of Int or Faith or both. So this seems like just picking what type of damage I want to do if I have an Int or Faith build. Is this correct? Also, how does this work with weapons like staffs and chimes? Does it add damage to the spells that are cast from that catalyst? I read that it's a good idea to infuse weapons with the a type of damage that they already do. For example, infusing the Sunset Staff with Dark is a good idea.

Moving on to poison and bleed: From what I read this is only really good on fast attacking weapons because you need to stack the effect quickly. My question is, how do these scale? It doesn't give a rating like the previous ones on the weapon when you infuse it. Does poison scale with int and bleed with strength?

I get what raw and mundane do I think. Raw is good on weapons with no or little scaling like the Giants Stone Ax because it just increases the base damage a ton. Mundane is good if you have a build with even stats and are using something like the Black Knights Sword since it makes the weapon scale off your lowest stat. Enchanted doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It makes it so a weapon does physical damage but scales off of int? Is that correct? The wiki says this is a good infusion if the weapon already does magic damage. Does this mean stuff like staffs and chimes or things like swords that do additional magic damage?

I know I can just do a quality build but I want to play around with different ideas and theory crafting. Help me /r/DarkSouls2, you're my only hope!

    Crashes to Desktop

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 02:27 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

Been experiencing some odd crashes recently with Dark Souls 2. It also happens with DS3 and Sekiro.

The game crashes suddenly to desktop, no error message. The crash is quite random on Dark Souls 2 but seems to crash most frequently in Dark Souls 3 immediately after loading a saved game/starting a new game. My specs are definitely not the issue when it comes to actually being able to run the game:

    i7-8700
    AMD RX 5700 XT
    16 GB RAM @ 2666mhz
    EVGA 650w PSU

I've checked the Event Viewer for the crash logs and I've got the following:

Faulting application name: DarkSoulsII.exe, version: 1.0.11.0, time stamp: 0x552f3166

Faulting module name: amdxn32.dll, version: 8.14.10.26, time stamp: 0x5d8d287f

    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Fault offset: 0x000238cc

    Faulting process id: 0x1adc

    Faulting application start time: 0x01d57a9187225173

Faulting application path: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Dark Souls II\Game\DarkSoulsII.exe

    Report Id: ab99fe56-dcdb-4bc0-97d1-1e69e0846235

    Faulting package full name:

    Faulting package-relative application ID:

I'm not particularly knowledgeable with these kind of things, but I'm guessing it looks like an AMD driver issue? Does anyone here have any experience with these things that could potentially help me with trying to fix this?

After playing a crap ton of bloodborne and dark souls 3, I feel like tryin this challenge out. Why? For the giggles. Despite its flaws dark souls 2 is also a nice breath of fresh air

I already have a strategy planned out and hopefully all goes well. But knowing me ill end falling off a cliff or resting at a bonfire by accident

Should I play through this game?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:18 PM PDT

Ive beaten DS1 and DS3 multiple times, but I tried to play DS2 once and I just couldnt. The movement seemed sloppy, and the enemies just seemed boring and kind of generix. I do see alot of good about this game, like powerstancing. I know this game doesnt really correlate to the rest of the series and Ive seen it referred to as "a dream". I know im probably going to get biased opinions since people in the subreddit obviously enjoyed the game, but I guess im just looking for how you guys liked the game compared to the others.
