Posted: 23 Oct 2019 01:43 PM PDT I've played a lot of Dark Souls 2, but I've never done a challenge run. Until now! This will be a detailed description of what I did, spanning multiple posts. For now, we'll talk about the rules of the run, and the first two areas of the game: I decided to layer multiple stipulations onto this run:
The first decided the "build" for my character. I wanted to be an archmage. While pyromancies are allowed, they are generally worse in PvE than sorceries in my experience, so I'm effectively limited to sorceries for all my damage. The second stipulation means that, whenever I go hollow, I must use a human effigy the next time I come to a bonfire. Most of the time this will be immediately after death, but if I get cursed, I can wait until I get to a bonfire (either from dying, progressing, or backtracking) to use an effigy. If I ever run out of effigies, I lose, even if I could go and buy an effigy without fighting anything. The third is self explanatory. CoC increases enemy hp and damage and prevents summoning allies. The path of the Arch Mage is a lonesome one. On the plus side, it prevents enemies from ever ceasing to respawn, meaning I can farm them for souls and drops forever. I don't need to worry about STR/DEX for obvious reasons, and I don't need VIT either since I'll be using very little equipment. ADP is less useful than on a martial playthrough since I'm leveling ATT which grants agility. Obviously Faith isn't useful. If I want to softcap Fire BNS, I'll want 10 FAI, but that's probably not worth doing, esp not with Warmth offering more healing beyond estus. The run starts normally enough. I select Sorcerer for my class obviously, and a human effigy for my gift. I go through enough of the tutorial to unlock the bird's nest, then head into Forest of Fallen Giants after picking up all the items in Majula and talking to the Emerald Herald. The first real area of the game has 2 damage dealing sorceries I can pick up: the merchant hag sells Soul Arrow, and the ballista ambush room has a copy of Great Soul Arrow. Other items of note in this area are: upgrade materials for my staff, 2 estus flask shards (if you include the one in majula mansion you can't access until getting the key from FoFG), and the Cloranthy ring (after the ballista ambush room). I spend my initial levels obtaining 3 spell slots for the 3 direct damage spells I have access to, then pump my health and stamina up. That gives me a total of 62 casts of Soul Arrow and 15 of Great Soul Arrow. I'll be stuck with this ammo for a while. I defeat the 2 bosses in FoFG, unlock lenigrast, and can choose to either go to Heide's tower or the Lost Bastile. Wanting to get access to Carhillion as soon as possible, I head for Heide's tower, although I do mess around in the Bastile a little bit, unlocking McDuff via breaking the wall, getting my staff up to +4 with materials from his workshop, and killing random mobs. The knights in Heide's tower are tanky. After activating both switches for the Dragon Rider boss fight, I refresh my spells at the bonfire and then rush to the boss without fighting any enemies. The Dragon Rider boss falls, and I head towards no man's wharf. Unfortunately, I can already tell I have far, far too few casts to make it through wharf, even after pumping my intelligence up a little to increase damage. At this point I am in possession of 4 amber herbs. I'll most likely have to make use of them here in the Wharf. Fortunately, Carhillion sells spell-restoration items, I just need to get to him. Anyway, that's all for now. I'll be posting more details for this run, especially as it gets more difficult. UPDATE: Part 2 is here [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:00 AM PDT I've been doing a no death, no bonfire run, and though i prefer being in offline mode, it'll be nice to see people again! Edit: Xbox one version! [link] [comments] |

IS DARK SOULS 2 only 10 bucks on ps4? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 12:13 PM PDT Is this game actually only 10 bucks on sale right now? Why is remastered so expensive compared to dark souls 2 scholar of the first sin? [link] [comments] |
My First Dark Souls Challenge Run, part 2: Lost Bastille and No Man's Wharf Posted: 23 Oct 2019 03:28 PM PDT I do a dry run through no man's wharf to see how far I can get with 62 soul arrows, 15 great soul arrows, and 17 INT. It turns out, without access to the short cut through the main building or the bridge shortcut, I can make it to the bell. I pop an amber herb (down to 4), expecting to get to Callihorn, but my sorcerer's staff runs out of durability. It seems I will have to do some amount of running past enemies. I bone home and get my INT up to 20. All my stats besides INT are where they need to be for now, and more damage can't hurt. I want some quick souls and potentially access to more stuff before taking on wharf again, so I head toward the ruin sentinels. They're magic resistant, and I can't rely on Pilgrim Bellicaire like I normally do, so I avoid all the royal swordsman and gun straight for the boss. This will be a tough one. Attempts: 3 → win on fourth I used the souls from the Ruin Sentinels to purchase the merchant hag's 5 human effigies, lockstone, and fragrant branch of yore. I progress a bit further into Sinner's Rise, unpetrify Straid on the way and purchase Cast: Light. I don't have an attunement slot for it, but that's next on the list. For now, I've got 8 minutes of torch remaining after using it in Wharf. Better make them count. I choose to take a small detour back to FoFG to go to the area with the Seed of a Tree of Giants. There's items back there to collect. No idea how useful they are, but I can at least sell them when I get deep enough into Wharf to reach Galvan. Also, apparently there's a torch in the chest with the ring of restoration. My torch life is now greatly extended. It is here I encountered my first NPC invader, and it was a problem. Mages suck in PvP and I suck in PvP. Overall not a good combination. NPC invaders suck at dodging, but many come with their own spells. I would begin casting soul arrow, Dennis would respond by casting soul spear. Yea, I did not win that trade. Luckily there were 2 human effigies among the drops in the area, so I netted +1 effigy, as well as some assorted souls and items to sell. Its time to face the facts: I have to bum rush to Carhillion and Gavlan through Wharf. Attempts: 1 → made it on second. I sold almost everything to Gavlan. All my weapons, my second sorcerer's staff, most of my armor, and a lot of my consumables. Overall I made just over 12k souls from him. I immediately spent all of it and more at Carhillion, bought all of his soul arrows, yearn, 3 amber herbs, and the clear bluestone ring (which I forgot to equip). I spent one of those amber herbs to restock enough to attempt the sentry... Flexile Sentry attempts: 1 → beat on second attempt At this point I'm heavily regretting putting my INT past 16, the minimum for Great Heavy Soul Arrow. Because now I have about a million spells, and no slots for them. I manage to get a 4th slot off the souls from the Flexile Sentry (including his boss soul). I think I have enough ammo for general use for now, so I equip Yearn. I'm down to 8 human effigies. The Lost Sinner Awaits! [link] [comments] |
Planning to sword and board as a pyromancer through ds2 - any new build suggestions? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:49 PM PDT I fucked the game off a while back, somewhere near the Iron Keep IIRC. No reason, just time etc. I now want to start again and before I do, I was hoping for any inspiration on a char build that would help a sword and board pyromancer. Many thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 10:59 AM PDT Hey guys. I'm thinking about trying ds2 and have some questions: What's pvp meta right now? Where pvp happens and how do I max my chances of meeting another player (idk what souls memory is)? What's the best starting class for a melee build? Do you have some useful links to popular builds, techs etc? Thank you in advance for your advices, kind skeleton. [link] [comments] |
Is upgrading shields and armors really worth It? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 04:10 AM PDT My current set (Varland + some drangelic) requires twinkling titanite which is kinda rare. Same for my shield (rusty red shield from varland). Im going to Change later to heide helmet + farron. So is upgrading armor and shield worth It? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 12:11 PM PDT I was wondering, can i ask for an item i'm looking for on here or not? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:44 AM PDT Dabbing on lmao2katz was an interesting way to finally sort of 'end' my journey of experiencing the Souls games forever, but at least I got there in the end. Probably wouldn't be having this discussion right now if the Loyce Shield wasn't baller. Just need to get around to buying the Bloodborne DLC and doing a full playthrough of that already so I can exhaust all my Soulsborne content until Elden Ring releases. It's been a trip, alright. Think I'll still enjoy these games if I manage to hit 80 years old. [link] [comments] |
Ds2 SOTFS (Xbox1) Loyce Soul Farming Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:42 PM PDT Looking for someone to farm Loyce Souls with! Sadly I already beat Burnt Ivory King on my profile before I knew this was even a thing. If anyone's willing to summon me, my sign is down at the Cathedral. I'll black crystal out when the King appears and we can repeat a few times. SM is 3957934, but I have the engraved ring if needed. Just pop a comment down below with the god you want me to select! NPC summon signs not appearing Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:05 AM PDT I'm at the first bonfire in Eleum Loyce and none of two NPC summon signs seem to appear at all. No, I'm neither in the champions covenant nor hollow nor wearing name engraved ring nor having burnt an effigy, these are not the reasons. Summon signs at Elana's are there at the same time which means it's not about my character at all. Am I supposed to go get the eye of the priestess first or is this a bug? [link] [comments] |

(joke) Talk-to-transformer revealed unpublished DLCs Posted: 23 Oct 2019 11:42 AM PDT I did copy this text from the wikia and put it into the talk-to-transformer (https://talktotransformer.com/ ): The Lost Crowns is a three part DLC for Dark Souls II announced on June 4th, 2014.[5] Released episodically for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, the packs can be purchased separately for $9.99 each, or all three can be purchased through Steam, PSN and Xbox Live for $24.99.[6] Crown of the Sunken King - July 22, 2014[7] Crown of the Old Iron King - August 26, 2014[8] Crown of the Ivory King - September 30, 2014[9] This is what it added: Crown of the Flame King - October 8, 2014[10] Crown of Dusk - October 16, 2014[11] Crown of the Fallen King - November 5, 2014[12] Crown of the Abyss King - November 19, 2014[13] Crown of the Dark King - December 3, 2014[14] I find it hilarious to imagine what these would be about. No idea if it does the same outcome for everyone, but this was so good I had to share it :D [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 10:07 AM PDT hi! i was wondering if someone had a 3d model for rampant golem, or at least a character wearing the full set, it seems to be super hard to find it :c thanks! [link] [comments] |
Dark Souls 2 advice for cleric Posted: 23 Oct 2019 01:06 AM PDT Hello everybody! Could I ask you guys for advice? Regarding Dark Souls 2 Cleric class. I have played DS2 before, did 25 hours on the game, but then I reinstalled PC and was busy with life overall. I have rolled cleric in Dark Souls because I thought that lightning spears and weapon enchants were very badass in DS world, and I wanted to be able to use these outside standard melee damage. So to my main question, how do you allocate stats as a cleric while leveling? Do I just focus on getting enough str/dex to vield my weapon, upgrade it as much as possible, have some adaptability and mostly go in faith/attunment? Many thanks in advance for your feedback!
