    I died to dragonrider again

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 10:43 AM PDT

Yesterday I made a post about dying to dragonrider, which btw got way more upvotes than I thought it would, and because of how overwhelmingly supportive you bastards were I tried again and died a second time. So I fucked off and left to the forest of giants.

I will be further documenting my progress

    Somebody come get this man

Got the DLC for the 1st time on playthrough 8 & CANNOT beat the Fume Knight or Elana. Fume 1 shots except for basic attacks, no matter my DRK or FIR def. Tips? I can rebuild to anything and probs have any armour. I really need to at least be able to survive a shot from Fume. Maybe max DPS for Elana?

First time playing through the DS trilogy, nothing made my jaw drop as much as this game's DLCs

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 04:30 AM PDT

Playing DS3 right now so my opinion may change, but so far it looks like nothing will come close to the greatness of the 3 DLC locations that this game has.

I am new to the community, but the general idea I get is that DS2 is the least liked one for some reason. Can somebody please explain to me how that's even possible? Not even taking into account how incredible Majula is as a base (got the Guts theme mod installed so there really is no comparison) and how awesome powerstance is, it's just sad to see how underappreciated this game is.

The DLCs in particular offer the best experience for me, it's like each of them is a completely seperate adventure, set in masterfully realized settings and with my favourite moveset (Red iron twinblades) to boot. The lore is fantastic as always, enemies are unforgiving, and Fume Knight was the first boss so far that gave me the ideal souls experience of getting my ass destroyed dozens of times without having bullshit hitboxes (looking at you, Ancient Dragon).

This might all seem redundant on this sub but I still wanted to get this out because I'm seeing way too many "DS2 bad" memes and it's killing me inside lmao

Dark souls 2 has become my favorite dark souls game, heres why

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 10:06 AM PDT

I don't like dark souls 1 because you can't travel between bonfires,

And your weapons and armor don't auto repair themselves upon resting in a bonfire

And why I don't like dark souls 3

Alot of enemies just love to hit behind them because they know you'll dodge there, so rolling has to be pretty tactical and, at the last second

And that's it, combat its just too fast paced and it's not for me

In dark souls 2 I don't have to worry about my weapon breaking and not being able to repair it because the blacksmith is 4 freaking bonfires away

And is easy to tell where enemies will hit because combat is a little slower paced than dark souls 3

(yes I know fume knight "wait till you face fume knight or wait till you have to do the DLCs") but still, I prefer dark souls 2

    The Dark souls RolePlay

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 04:45 AM PDT

We all know the story of dark souls 2. It is wonderfull game, one of the best that I played.

Few days ago I tried to play the game again and something was not right. I thought to myself "hey I want to make game more interesting"

So i decided to make some roleplay but not just like realy simple one. I wanted to add a little storyline and character's past. And the idea is probably not the best, but I'll take a chance

If you are still here then Im happy that i got your curiosity. Now let's try to get your attention.

Playing dark souls just how it is is great but what If we can spice it up a little bit? I will present to you a character idea. His past and his possible future.

Some of his weaknesses. The weaknesses will affect the gameplay (it is not a mod, you have to control it by yourself).

There will be no apparence of the character and here is why. Everyone has an own idea of how the character should look like and I don't want to "close" it in just one shape.

Do as you please, I will be making my character on a livestream so I myself don't know how they will look like until then. It's up to you. Same with naming.

Im gonna put a name in here but you don't have to use it. It's just how i fell they should be named.

I will just make an idea, write a little bit of history of the character. And we all can work around it. I would realy love if some of you guys will drop your idea of making the character more interesting.

This will be quite long post but if you are still here i will assume that i have your attention. So let's just start with it. Just please keep in mind that Im not the best at writing this things. I just realy enjoy doing it.

The story itself won't be something incredible but i should be like that. Not to long just to give you an idea of what kind of character there is and what happend to him.

Enulf was a great Warrior of a land that the name was forgoten long time ago. He fought wars killing hundreds of enemy soldiers.

Contrary to appearances, Engulf did not take pleasure in what he did. The life he led was hard and he was starting to feel it. He wanted a change, something that would bring him peace.

At one point in his life, his king himself asked for help. On his way to the Enulf's shelter, the king declared that if Engulf captured the enemy's castle - in any way he imagined, if only effective - the king would give him his only daughter.

This was a great opportunity for Enulf. He could finally leave a place that was slowly becoming a burden for him. So he agreed to take on this challenge.

After leaving Enulf's refuge, the king was asked by his adviser if it was a good idea to take such a risk. Frowning, the ruler said it was the only way to get rid of him.

    <some time later>

The warrior touched upon all his contacts, the people who owed him favors and the money he had worked for a long time. It was his only chance to live in peace.

He had taken many lives that day, and it hurt more and more with each new one. With his sword and shield, he made his way through the hordes of enemies. Nobody could stop his charge. With every second the attack lasted, Enulf grew closer and closer to the peace he desired.

He knew how much he had to sacrifice to finally be able to achieve it.

After all, after a long time, no one was left in sight ... except for him. The bodies of his people and enemies were everywhere. The warrior looked around, looked at his weapon and threw it to the ground, after a while he did the same with the shield.

All his armor was destroyed, so he decided to get rid of it too. Without looking back, he went to meet his king. He left his whole life behind at this very moment.

    <some time later>

Ernulf lived a quiet life with his wife and son. Only the king was restless. He was afraid of his warrior, he knew that one day he would be killed by him.

Getting rid of him was more difficult than he had assumed at first, but he had another plan. The ruler could not afford to be killed by this man.

So he looked for all means and found the darkest of all that existed. During the night, he ordered his servants to kidnap his son Ernulf and bring him to the prison cellars of the castle.

The warrior, awakened by the sounds in his house, jumped out of bed. He saw two hooded figures. One of them held his son in her hands. It didn't take long when he lunged at both of them.

He didn't need a sword. He didn't want to kill anymore, so he tried to knock them out. However, one of them managed to escape with the child. Enrulf reassured his wife and quickly set off in pursuit of the kidnapper.

It took some time for Ernulf's eyes to adjust to the darkness in the dungeon. He walked slowly down the stairs, exercising caution.

The most terrifying thing about the prison was the silence it had. All you could hear was water dripping from the ceiling.

At the end of the long corridor in which the warrior was now stood a huge door, from under which light shone. You could see shadows moving in front of the door, and you could finally hear faint murmurs,

which seemed to emanate from Ernulf's surroundings and not directly outside the door.

He walked over to them without thinking and pushed them. A terrifying sight appeared before his eyes. The king was sitting in a chair in the center of the room. A group of four gathered around him, and Ernulf's son lay before him.

The warrior, seeing this, moved forward without hesitating, only to be unable to move after a while. The hooded figure, previously invisible, emerged from the darkness, whispering something under his breath, looking into the eyes of the warrior.

Whispering incessantly, the figure raised her hand, pointing at the baby. The ruler knew perfectly well what this meant. He got up from his chair and did what changed Ernul's whole life. His son was killed before his eyes by the king

to whom he owed his present life.

Wat this point the king fell to his knees. The four remaining figures in the room with him fell to the floor. The ruler looked down at his hands, and an expression of fear appeared on his face. His entire body began to blacken and disintegrate.

The hooded figure, now smiling from ear to ear, looked at the king at the same time tearing her eyes away from the warrior, whom she had kept tethered in a way incomprehensible to him.

At that moment, only she knew what was happening. The king's soul has just been divided into five parts. His body shell began to disintegrate to become part of the five powerful beings. Thus the king would live forever.

Ernulf couldn't believe his eyes. Possessed by anger, he set out with the intention of killing everyone in the room. The ritual, however, also had an effect on the unfortunate one. He fell to the ground, and a red circle was burned into his body.

The hooded figure, which turned out to be an old woman, approached him, raised his head up and wished him good luck, pierced his heart with a dagger.

Ernulf died to be reborn again in a while.

On that day, the life of the warrior changed completely. He never returned to his wife. He sacrificed himself to find the pieces of the king's soul and destroy him forever. This story took him to unknown lands.

It was there that the king's soul was to get what it deserved. Along the way, he heard many legends about this place that he did not want to believe. Horrible creatures, masses of undead warriors, brotherhoods he has never heard of.

It was all waiting for him.

Whether he will manage to take revenge on the people who hurt him so bad depends only on him and his will to continue fighting.

And that was it. Yes, I know, the story isn't the best, but it's about getting to know a little bit of the character you're playing.

I will describe a few rules that you "need" to stick to when playing this character and a few choices that you can make. the rest is up to you! This can be regarded as a small challenge. Please if you have any ideas, improvement or corrections write it. In case of good ideas or changes, I will edit the post.

    1. You have to play as a warrior class

    2. Can only use shield and one handed sword. As a secondary weapon can use short bow.
( the player's character is not trained to use weapons with both hands! )

    3. Target armor - Faraam set when you play plunging into the dark / Alva set when you play for revenge but not killing innocents

    4. Target covenant - Heirs of the Sun - when you seek forgiveness / Brotherhood of Blood when you go deep into the dark

    5. Pvp is absolutely allowed I will not interfere with it

    6. Enrulf cannot dodge and run in the water (I mean sprint - he is a "heavy" fighter with a shield and a sword. It would not be easy to dodge, especially in the water). You have to block first of all

    7. You can't use magic

    8. If you are playing in the dark you have to kill - Rosabeth, Cale the Cartographer, Mild mannered Pate, Lucatiel and Grave Warden Agdayne - rest of the NPCs as you see fit

    9. If you play as the good one, then you don't kill when you don't have to, which means skipping a few bosses - Executioners Chariot, Belfry Gargoyles, Old Dragonslayer, Vendrick, Ancient Dragon

    10. The rest of the equipment is up to you

    11. Parrying blows is allowed
I haven't included the DLC yet so it doesn't have any related "storyline"
The main "task" you have in the game is to defeat 5 creatures that swallowed a piece of the soul of the ruler who murdered your son. Of course, they are Old Iron King, Lost Sinner, rotten and Freja After defeating these 4, you head to Nashandra. Sitting on the throne, Ernulf decides to sacrifice his life for the benefit of the rest of the world's creatures.

!!!CAUTION!!! If you own a SotfS then the last real boss is Aldia! After you defeat him, you have two options. As above, sacrifice yourself so that no one will suffer anymore or leave the throne room. In the first ending, the hero accepts his sins, the curse is cured and the hero dies. In the second ending, when you leave the throne room, Ernulf decides to seek further revenge against the woman who was there on the day his son was murdered. and the story does not end !!!CAUTION!!!

As I said. It is difficult to describe more, because this is the first time I have done something like this in such a large commune. And I'm a little stressed ... I will try it myself on Sundays on livestream so I will see first hand what works and what does not and what else is worth adding. If you like it, please let me know, because I still have an idea for another character going towards magic. And playing magic is not my forte in dark souls ..

I'd like to make it an interesting challenge with a small storyline that you as a player have influence over as such. It doesn't have to be anything great. Only something that will refresh the game a little and throw a little different light on it I will be grateful for any comments on this topic!

    Starting Out DS2

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 10:22 AM PDT

So I first bought Dark Souls Remastered on the Switch, and I loved it so much. I even went as far as to blast through NG+ because I didn't want it to be over. The problem now is I cannot get used to the PC version of DS2. I find it really wonky to use. Would it be advisable to get some sort of controller?

My Generic Guard (what do y'all think)

    Posted: 02 Jun 2021 08:34 PM PDT

    Annoyed by shields

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 04:05 AM PDT

Ok, so I like to vary my loadout each playthrough, and while some armor and weapons occur more frequently than others because they're damn good, esoecially early game, nothing is as bad as the shields. (i play sotfs btw).

In the arguably earliest area of the game, the forest of thw fallen giants, you get the large leather shield, which is light, low req, and has decent defences across the board, which I keep falling back too when I play something with low str and vit like a mage.

Then, in what is likely the second area, heides tower of flame, you get the watchdragon parma when you go to the cathedral and kill the dragon. More weight and not really better defence, but it's a little more stable, and raises soul income (and item discovery?) so it's viable if you have at least 10 str, and can handle the weight.

In the potentiallu third area you go to, even if you don't go through it, the lost bastille (from the tower apart) you find mcduff, who sells you one of the few 100% physical reduction shields for like 2.4k souls, the royal kite shield, which is lighter than the watchdragon parma, but has a 12str req, making it not viable for all classes, espegially mages, but excellent if you can handle it.

These three, are basically the only shields I use, unless I pick another for fashion reasons, or go for small shields for parrying or greatshields, though I rarely do the latter, and can do the prior with any of the small shields just as easily.

So why are there so many shields? I want my characters to look and play differently, but I can't without sacreficing effectiveness, and normally this game allows you to use most equipment if you have the right build, because each one has advantages and drawbacks due to a complex system of damage types and scaling, meaning you can invest in a dozen directions and wind up powerful in all but in a unique way, exept for with shields, where I love the look lore and so on for them, but like why would I ever use say the mirrah shield over the royal kite shield, when I getbit later, it's worse in every way (exept 5% more magic res i guess), and heavier?

The answer of course, i because I want to, but it's difficult to justify when it feela silly to use a less effective item just to vary, when they are more or less the same mechanically. I just can't understand why it even exists? (I mean in ds2 you get the mirrah shield first since the dull ember ia in iron keep if I've understood correctly, but the watchdragon parma is also better in literally every way, except costing 2 more str to wield, and it doesn't justify why it's useless in sotfs, and it's not that long between you'd get them anyways).

Generally, the game follows a principle where you can imagine that each item has a simmilar viablility, where more of one thing means either more investment to use or less of something else, even if there are disparities, and a few items that fall out from the curve or are somehow useless for anything but challenge runs, you can usually take at least 80% of the items in a category and come up with a reason you'd use each one, even if some reasons are "it's less expensive", or "I needed that boss soul for something else".

And I don't mind if two items are almost identical, because then you can choose based on esthetics, but to reuse my example, I can't conceeve of a reason to ever use the mirrah shield as long as I don't accidentally sell both the royal kite shield and the watchdragon parma to gavlan and can't be bothered to use aescetics

Idk, does anyone have a different experience or perspective on this? Am I just missing a hidden laywr of shield scaling or infusion patterns which makes the world of shields as interesting and variable as that of weapons and armor? Or is it just sotfs thats like this, and the standard edition perfectly balances this along your progression path?

TL;DR Usually there are cases where you'd find yourself justifyibly using each itwm with only a few exeptions, however with shields there are shields with counterparts better in every way, like the royal kite over mirrah shield. Do you have a different experience or perspective on this?
