Dark Souls I just beat Artorias!

    I just beat Artorias!

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 01:33 PM PDT

After trying for about an hour, I finally beat Artorias. I. Love. This. Boss. I love the lore behind Artorias, but also the fight itself. I think it's amazing how you can damage him out of his "buffing", and just the fight in itself is really difficult, which gives me such a good feeling for finally beating him. Also, because the fight is so difficult (for me at least) it makes it even better because you actually have to try and defeat him. In conclusion, I just beat Artorias and I loved every moment of the boss. Praise the sun!

I killed the four kings before getting the lord vessel, how do I get out of the abyss?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 02:55 PM PDT

I was doing a bow only playthrough and thought about doing the four kings before anor londo and well now I'm stuck in the abyss with Kaathe rambling about the dark lord.

This game is kicking my ass bros

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 04:58 PM PDT

Has anybody else missed out on the original DS1 release and tried it after beating the other games in the series?

I bought and beat DS2 on PS3 back in the day and beat it, I bought Bloodborne and The Old Hunters and got the Plat, bought DS3 and beat NG+.

    But

DS1 has just been a monster lmao.

How do the fatties in Blighttown not hit any walls or scaffolding with their clubs?

Why is Sif floating on the edge of the clearing? Get down from there ya big big fluffy bastard!

I thought I back stabbed an invader, they just "nothing personal kid" me and lagged right behind me.

I won't give up BUT I gotta pause this and play DS3 to get a mental health break (and totally not make me feel like a big boy) I wish I had gotten DS1 when it came out haha.

I found the path of the dragon covenant!

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 07:40 PM PDT

I recently discovered the illusory wall in blight town and was exploring throughout the great hollow, and after that the ash lake. After much looting, killing the hydra thing, and more exploring I found the bonfire under the everlasting dragon.

Resistance only run: Is resistance worth it?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 08:36 PM PDT

    No.

Resistance proved to be useful 3 times throughout my playthrough, to avoid being poisoned by the hellkite rats, to avoid being toxic'd by the dart men, and to avoid being poisoned by the Sanctuary Guardian.

Although the stat was useful in making my character bulky early on (and actually helped me deal with an invader, and it should be noted that I am terrible at pvp), it's usefulness faded away as soon as I made it to Anor Londo. Elemental damage I tanked fairly well however, though it rarely helped.

I actually found this run to be about equal to an sl1 in difficulty, but I should say that I was better equipped in my sl1 run so I guess the difference is bigger than what I experienced.

In conclusion: Resistance is fucking useless

    Just beat the Asylum Demon!

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 08:50 PM PDT

First time ever playing, drank 3 estus flasks accidentally without needing them, took too long with the plunging attack and got hit right out the gate by him, and kept pressing the wrong button so I continually rolled into him instead of raising my shield, but I got him first try!

Pretty sure that'll be the hardest part of the game over now, high-five everyone!

    Modern-Era Dark souls

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 01:39 AM PDT

Fleshing out an idea about a Modern-Era Dark souls coming from this Video.

Title: Tokyo Souls (May change if someone has a better suggestion)

Plot: You play as a young adult/teenager that wakes to find the world has gone into chaotic hell. Rifts between dimensions open up and nightmarish creatures and plagues swarm out and destroy the world around them. No one knows why or how, you just have to survive this now chaotic realm and find the cause of this madness. (I'm not good at plot design)

    Gameplay;

    • In Classic Souls-like fashion the game will include, stat builds, combat mechanics, hard but rewarding boss fight spectacles, branching paths of a sprawling world, and some degree of difficulty, and the ability to explore multiple branching worlds.
    • Estus Flask: Medkit (upgrades is just adding bandages for more healing or syringes before more times to heal)
    • Bonfire: Benches (doesn't allow fast travel)
    • Separate Fast Travel Station (normally near Benches): Bus Stops(normal)/Subway Station(underground)/ferries(over water)
    • Souls: Yen

    Mechanics;

    • Weapon-to-Wall Collision - What this means is that you can just swing your heavy weapon in a tight corridor with an enemy behind it and expect it to hit. Walls and other surfaces that you can't break will cause your weapon to bounce off and stop your combo. This goes the same for enemies. If you want to swing that two-handed greatsword that goes with your Strength Build then you might wanna find a wide-open area to swing it, until then get a spear or something that uses thrust attacks.
    • Addiction - Along with your Medkit, you also have a collection of drugs and medicines. This can happen from using too many drugs at once. An addict suffers withdrawal symptoms that can cause ill effects when a drug wears off. Drugs cannot be bought, are in limited in-game, and a rare drop chance. So trying to become reliant on something like Super Steriods that gives a 50% damage boost is only going to give you a 50% damage reduction once you run out. Medicine is the same way, try to use painkillers (regen + defense boost item) too much and you'll instead take damage for every second you're not under the effects.
    • Item Throw - You can throw just about any item, some items will damage or inflict enemies, while others will take enemy attention off of you.
    • The Phone, Wifi Boxes, Spell Apps, Phone Memory, & Phone Battery - Now to something that probably won't kill you, probably. Spells are locked to your Phone. Which in and of itself has many things you can buy/collect to upgrade it, but this isn't mandatory. The phone, unlike weapons, won't break with its usages, but the phone battery will, using a fairly uncommon item like a portable/disposable battery charger or resting a water fountain/bench. Spell Apps are what you can use, the Fire Spell App is for a Fire Spell, so on and so forth. You can buy powerful apps from phone stores or gain them from certain bosses that use magic, however, your phone's memory can hit a limit, certain spells need a certain amount of memory. Wifi Boxes can affect your and enemies' ability to cast spells, meaning, no wifi no spells, but this can be easily fixed by simply finding the WIfi Box and fixing it, that is if it has one.
    • Executions - This is a special action that can be triggered a couple of ways, they're not only for a fun little thing to do, Executions increase the number of Yen from enemies as well as increasing some rare drops (not drug drops). Each weapon has its own animation when done on a certain enemy. There are three ways to do these executions; either parry a foe at the right time, do enough stagger damage, or do a charged strong attack is struck on the foe's back.

Map area; (Every area has a theme to it that goes with the area and its enemies)

    1. School; Main Building - Starting level, very easy to traverse, no traps, working Wifi Box, couple secrets, weak slow zombie nerds with a few fat kids here and there. One path that leads into the Schoolyard. Also no boss.
    2. School; Library - One of the first three places that can be accessed from the Schoolyard. A seemingly tight space area, but you can destroy most bookshelves that. Dark and kinda hard to traverse, no traps, working Wifi Box that's located near the entrance, couple secrets, the husks of teenagers that use different spells cause even in death they are still on their phones, and the cultish spirit of a librarian, who mainly uses magic to fight.
    3. School; Gymnasium - One of the first three places that can be accessed from the Schoolyard. A generally open area, fairly easy to traverse, a couple of traps, broken Wifi Box, a few secrets, tougher hard-hitting but slow jocks mutated by a mutation mixed with the steroids in their bodies which is a fairly common item, and dead-end with a mutated football coach boss that leads to something.
    4. School; Basement - 1. One of the first three places that can be accessed from the Schoolyard. A tight space area, dark and hard to traverse, many traps, no Wifi Box, a few secrets, drug junkies that will poison you with every attack but can be distracted with drugs of any kind by throwing them, and a junkie janitor boss that poisons.
    5. Schoolyard - a small area with only a few specials and secrets. Just an intersection into the first three areas of the game and a locked gateway into the main game. With a hulked-out Principle that appears after you open the gate to The Streets because, in his madness-induced mind, School isn't out. Which is magnetically locked because the school is on lockdown.
    6. The Streets - Less of an area and more of a collection of separated roads, enemies, items, secrets, and locked shortcuts that lead into more important areas. Also, other survivors of this mayhem wander the streets, some are like Hostile Hunters from Bloodborne, others are like the friendly unless attacked Hunter NPCs from the same game.

Will add more if I come up with any or if someone has an idea for an area to share. No idea for a hub area.

Tell me what you think and any ideas you'd like to add.

    Iron golem's a bitch?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 12:44 AM PDT

I heard that sans fortress is one of the difficult parts in the game so yeah, I saw shit scared entering the boss Fight but to my surprise, the guy couldn't even hit me at first(also, I stood very close behind him and he tried to stomp me to no success) then after some hits he just sat there and took it like a fucking masochist... I actually stopped to see if he's OK lol, if he bugged out or something? And then he stood up grabbed me and threw me off the fucking cliff (don't know if it was a grab or what) so my question is, is he supposed to be like that or did my +3 black knight sword did this?

Is the DLC Artorias of the Abyss worth playing?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:30 AM PDT

Recently I finished Dark Souls Remastered, and NGL, in the end I was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the game is great(a must play for everyone), but the bosses were kinda bad... Gwyn, Orstein and Smough, The four kings, Bell Gargoyles, Sif, Quelaag, the Gaping Dragon and Priscilla were the only bosses I liked. But Gwyn, The Gargoyles and Orstein and Smough were the only hard ones in my opinion.

Well that doesn't matter, what matters is, I finished the game(by accident) and started a NG+, but I did not have the opportunity to play the DLC. But I don't know if it is worth it, because the bosses will get harder and it will probably be an absolute hell to get past all those bosses I hated once again. Is the DLC good enough to be worth it? Are the bosses in it fun and a bit of a challenge?

So I tried the aggro mod

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:08 PM PDT

Its great, amazingly so. Right up until you get to the bonfire below the fire wyvern. Why? Because while your sitting down, the archers behind you shoot you. Then the black knight super hero leaps off the top of the tower to murder you. Then the boar comes.

That doesnt include the baldur knights that aggro from half the map.

To top it off? Your in range from right there to aggro HALF of darkroot. I did NOT expect stone knights to greet me at the Smith but man they were there.

    To the invader Dirty Golem

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 06:13 PM PDT

Thanks for the fun fight, I normally hate DS1 pvp but your invasion was refreshing. I wish there were more players like you and less twinks and sweats (irl twinks are cool though).

Also sorry for chugging estus, I suck at pvp and also live in Australia.

So many duplicates - where to get the actual dsfix?

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 01:47 AM PDT

Hi folks. I'm playing PtD, and I'd like to get this dsfix I've heard about, but I see a 2015 version on Nexus mods, a 2018 version on Moddb, and also a 2020 version floating about? Are these all legit? And if so, is the newer version better? I'd appreciate any guidance you can point me to.

I hope this isn't answered somewhere here already; sorry if so. I did look, but reddit search never works well for me.

    Never again

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 11:01 PM PDT

So, I have never beat the game, if anyone has seen a previous post from me or seen some of my comments they know why, but basically just for one reason or another have had to put it down and didn't start up again except for when getting a new version. Well, got it for my ps4 recently because I wanted to play but didn't want to dig my xbone from where it is stored and all that. The other night, was doing the Bell Gargoyles, was significantly lower level then when I had beat them before, did pretty good just died a few times because I couldn't get them to separate enough and they kept alternating attacks so it was hard to do anything but dodge and get one or two hits before dying. I was tired, had beat them before, so I decided to do what I try to avoid in these games and use a summon. However, not only did I just use one summon, oh, no, I decided to be extra lazy with it and summoned both Lautrec and Astaire. I will never do this again, the fight was as easy as a Skeever (Skyrim)! I literally just stood back and lobbed fireballs, and it didn't even matter if they hit or not as I just watch the two summons shred the Gargoyles apart. Now, I have learned my lesson, will not take the lazy way out in this game, there is no sense of pride or accomplishment, just disappointment and shame hahaha

My character is a lvl 91 with a strength lvl 40 endurance lvl 38 vitality 36 and dexterity lvl 23. I haven't been using the attunement slot at all and wondering if it is even worth it to upgrade a few things (faith intelligence etc) to be able to actually take advantage of those or if I'm too deep in this run to even bother. Please help!

    Community troubles- expressing my opinion

    Posted: 27 Apr 2021 01:29 AM PDT

I apologise in advance for the formatting, as it never seems to work on mobile. Why is it that if I want to have a decent back-and-forth convo about Dark Souls 2, I have to do it here? If I express my opinion on their sub, I only ever get downvotes. Not even replies, when I specifically ask for them. I try not to be unreasonable or unjustly harsh towards DS2, but still I get the same issue with them. Just like them constantly shitting on the other two main entries (and mostly DS3, at that), it's like few opinions other than "this game is the best thing to happen to mankind since strawberries" are allowed. If I want to have a decent discussion on the sequel, I find I have to do it here, which is explicitly not what I want because that's inherently sidetracking from the topic at hand (which is what the downvote system is supposed to be for). I can say things in this sub day and night like Bed of Chaos being my favourite boss (which it is, come at me lol) and I'm sure I could even say something egregious like "O&S is a trash boss," which is not something I believe, but I feel like here I'd only get advice for that. Whereas DS2, if you say something like "all of these bosses have been pretty sub-par and poorly designed except for Fume Knight" like I said it feels like I never even get responses, just downvotes. Is this DS1 community just more helpful than the average bear? Is the DS2 community just particularly insecure due to the large amount of people dissing the game they like most out of the series? I don't understand it, especially as someone who loves BoC with all her heart. If I post something in defence of BoC, I expect a bunch of people going "nah fuck that boss, it's 100% BS and I cheese it every time" and it's no big deal. I'm struggling to not be disappointed in the DS2 community by-and-large, is I guess what I'm saying. They seem to be the first to say 'git good scrub' level shit while ignoring any legitimate critique or appeals for help from a critical standpoint. And BY NO FUCKING MEANS is this a DS2 game OR community hate post, or a reason to go attack and harass their community, or an excuse for a circlejerk in the comments about "ah, game-of-1,000-ganks bad." I really just need help understanding the perspective and where people are coming from that they seem to have this hostility. Like that Bring Me The Horizon meme post they had like a week back, I'd never seen anything like that kind of 'if you like DSwhatever you're an obnoxious, argumentative yob' post from any of the other subreddits. I guess if any of you can help me understand where they're coming from and how to go about this in future, I'd appreciate it. Thanks for reading.

    Dark Souls 3 burnout

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 11:56 PM PDT

    Hi there,

I played Dark Souls 2 and absolutely loved the challenge. Me and my mate had the classic experience: a friendship forged through the fire of PAIN.

BUT. I picked up Dark Souls 3 recently and just felt burnt out. Got about an hour in and couldn't continue forwards! I know I should just, "git gud", but I was wondering what your rankings you would have for each of the Dark Souls in terms of difficulty (including demon souls).

What's the benefit of split damage?

    Posted: 26 Apr 2021 10:15 PM PDT

So basically, I played through NG mostly using a Silver Knight Sword +5 and the Greatsword of Artorias +5 without much difficulty. Come NG+, I decide to switch it up a bit and get Quelaag's Fury Sword, finally upgrading it to +5 shortly before I start the DLC and... it kinda sucks.

For the record, I was at something like 35 Dex 30 Str and had 10 Soft Humanity, so the attack power of the Fury Sword was actually higher than the Greatsword. But in practice, against both the Sanctuary Guardian and Artorias (and later against Seath), the Fury Sword just did absolutely pitiful damage, so much so that I eventually switched back to the Greatsword.

Is there any situation (outside of factors like moveset or coolness) where using a split damage weapon over a regular weapon is actually a good idea?
