I like how much this game feels like a journey and there is such much variety in level design. I actually like how the game tries to split you off into four directions, linearity is not bad and every new area I go to Im suprised about. Just found the iron keep and beat the smelter demon and the other boss, old iron beast or something, friggin fun, except I died so much because of those archers lol. Anyway yeah this game is taking me a long time to beat and I'm sure I missed a ton, considering I play my first play through blind. But yeah I already sunk in 40 hours and I'm no where near done

Analysis: Dark Souls II and Creating Build Variety

Which optional DLC area is the worst?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 10:56 AM PDT

My answer after beating CotSK and CotIK would have to be Memory of Sir Alonne, CotD and IP didn't give me much trouble but the Memory has some of the most bullshit enemy placement I've ever seen. I'm praying that Frigid Outskirts isn't as bad.

I did it, I beat Dark Souls 2 for the first time!

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 02:24 AM PDT

    Hey,

this could turn out to be a long post, I don't know for sure. Two things: 1. I know there are a lot of these posts, but you know every experience is different and 2. I'm from Germany so forgive me some gramatical errors.

After beating DS1 and really loving it, I had to decide which game should be next? Dark Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3? This was absolutely no easy decision, but for the sake of keeping the numbers in a straight line I went for 2 (Sotfs). Intro and stuff was truly epic and then the gameplay started and oh boy the controls. I thought I could handle them, they can't be that bad...Well this was the first hurdle to get over. Luckily I found out about the Deadzone-Fix, still felt weird but let's just get on with the game.

Went through Things Betwixt, looked alright, didn't do much of the tutorial stuff and went right for Manjula. I surely don't have to tell you that the music of this place is superb and it just stays in our brain forever, kinda. First mistake I made was joining the Company of Champions, I simply didn't read about the stuff that would change. Forest of Fallen Giants was like hell for me, I hated the game more and more every second because of the (partly better) controls and enemies, ADP and the human effigy system. I came to this game expecting it to be different, adjusted to the thought, but I still hated it. Last Giant was suprisingly easy, compared to the area.

Upon reaching Heide's I was on the edge of giving up, so I decided to make a break and really prepare more for this game. Reading Reddit, watching videos etc. I leveld ADP, END and VGR equally and beat Dragonrider by pushing him (accidentally) off the ledge. Dragonslayer I think I did him later, wasn't hard either. Next was No-man's Wharf. F*ck me I hate this place. Don't like the torch mechanic, the enemies and the boss (although he was not very challenging). Wharf was the next point I nearly gave up, but decided to stay. The Lost Bastille was finally the point where it started to get a bit more fun (ADP got higher, that may be why). Ruin Sentinels were challenging, but doable. Kind of the first boss I considered above easy/average in terms of difficulty. Sinners Rise was, against the common believe I guess, fairly easy, did the Lost Sinner first try. I later found out that I actually was pretty underleveld.

Huntsman's Copse was fun and cool and I finally had fun and the will to finish this game. The Skeleton Lords were meh. Harvest Valley and Earthern Peak in my opinion felt awful. I just don't like poison at all. I'm not even going to talk about Covetous, Mytha was average at best. Iron Keep was next. This place...this place...is

suprisingly cool and interesting. Didn't mind all the Alonne Knights, because I had my good ol' friend the poison arrow with me. Smelter Demon wasn't easy for me, probably 10/11 tries till he finally came down, that guy felt like a good and not so easy boss. The route to the king is also good like the first half of Iron Keep. Jesus, this is quite the unpopular opinion! Old Iron King again like so many other bosses easy and did it first try without a summon. Grave of Saints was nothing special. Really had fun in the Gutter, felt like a better version of Blighttown. Fun got completely erased in Black Gulch and the Rotten vanquished in my second try. Why did they think: Ah spitting statues that poison you, well after Harvest Valley and Earthern Peak and the Gutter, let's crank it up to 1000 statues of spitting poison. It's so short, but so painfully frustrating, even if you can destroy them.

On the forked road I went left and found myself in the shaded woods. These shadow "hunters" were annoying and I completely overlooked the first bonfire there (how this happened I dunno :/ ). Rescued Ornifex, beat Tark and then went for Najka. This fight becomes a breeze if you know the stone pillar is the safe zone. Doors of Pharros is interesting, definitely gave Gavlan a lot of souls. And now Ladies and Gentlemen the first big wall I ran into during my playthrough, let's welcome the bullshit that Royal Rat Authority is. Holy hell that guy screwed me up. I tried shooting the small rats from the fog gate first, but it triggered the whole fight...so not an option. This guy feels like gambling in a casino, somehow did it after 20 attempts or so. Really got Capra vibes from him. Brightstone Cove Tseldora was average, although the first boss (Prowling Magus and Congregation) is bad. It just didn't feel like a mid-game boss. Freja was the first boss I used a summon for. Why did they do the same thing again for Freja as for Authority? Let's just put small enemies in there, that really fuck the player up. Couldn't they have given this spider one more special attack and remove all the small spiders? Again took me several attempts to beat it.

Drangleic Castle felt like a breath of fresh air, finally some castle shit again I thought. Lots of enemies that where reused, especially the Sentinels in the room with the two giant statues. Dragonriders where a nice dual boss and challenging. Glass Knight I did with a summon, really nice boss and not that easy, especially the feature with his shield was super interesting.

Up next the place, the place which everyone seems to hate with passion...drumroll please: Shrine of Amana. Again not bad at all, I absolutely don't understand the hate it gets, like really why? I know it's hard for melee, but I just used my poison arrows to get through. You definitely can't argue about the atmosphere this place has. Completely different from anything else. Demon of Song was kind of strange and fascinating at the same time. Not hard though, you just have to roll to left or right when he jumps, thats basically it. Undead Crypt on the other hand, oh baby that part was exhausting and difficult for me. Went through it a bit to quick for my taste, but by then I wanted to finish the game already, I explain why at the end. The run to the fog gate is a adrenaline rush for sure and so is Velstadt. Gave me Artorias vibes with his buff. Took me maybe 3 tries.

Aldia's Keep has an interesting concept for sure, although I don't think it is executed well. I get that it's like a collector of rare animals/museum or zoo, but for me it's just reusing old enemies instead of creating new ones. Especially all the ogres, copy pasted everywhere. They are not fitting for the end-game. Also went through there quite quickly. Guardian Dragon was neat, did him on my first try without summon. Accidentally skipped Dragon Aerie by using the zip-line and thought: ah let's go on. Maybe I shouldn't have done that, skipping whole segments isn't good for the experience in my opinion. Shrine f*cked me up really hard the first couple of times, as I didn't know the knights there wouldn't attack you. Kudos to them! First fight against the Ancient Dragon I didn't stand a chance at all. His flying fire-attack is just too much. Did the "trick" with his feet, but he took me nearly an hour, because I messed up the feet cycle sometimes and his fire-attack. He's maybe a bit too big for a fight, Kalameet was better sized.

Throne of Want is impressive looking. The walk down to the gate is a chilling experience and you know shits about to get real. Did Watcher and Defender with a summon, although the summon didn't last for long. Got them down the first try. Well what now I thought? They're dead, nothing happens. Ok, I need to go into a memory. Memory of Jeigh went by fast and the boss as well. Just switch between the two legs and stay behind him.

Nashandra, this little b*tch gave me so much trouble. Everyone seems to think she's easy. Definitely not for me. And yeah that's it, that was Dark Souls 2. Actually no, there are DLC's and stuff I missed, but here me out:

This whole post makes DS2 out to be a bad game, but no I really liked it. Not loving it like DS1 though. Mostly the later hours of the game I really enjoyed. The thing is I just want to move on now, desperately want to play DS3 now. I absolutely will give this game another shot some time later, to see everything it has to offer, I'm just kinda drained out of motivation to continue the game. As to why DS3 now? Well I'm really in the mood for more quicker and better paced action at the moment! At the end I feel a bit bad for DS2, sorry don't want to hurt your feelings :(

I hope someone reads this mess of a post. Have a nice day and of course stay safe and healthy!

DS2 Question about the Disc Chime ( Help Me Please )

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 11:10 AM PDT

Hello guys! im just came across the disc chime ( at the end of my first playthrough lol )
i needed a bit help with it. I want to use this for physical attacks as it does very good damage and is quite fast. My question:
Im running a hex build right now so dark bonus would be good. But my question is that if i infuse it and get more dark dmg, will it counts towards my phyiscal hits or only casting. So is it best to be left uninfused or dark infused for My hex bbuild
    thank you

Fought The Rotten and didn’t get the amount of souls expected.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2021 04:06 AM PDT

I was wearing Warlock Mask, Tseldora Robe, Jester Gloves, Tseldora Trousers, and Covetous Silver Serpent Ring +2. I'm on NG+, so the usual amount of souls dropped from The Rotten should be 94,000 according to the wiki. Despite this I only got about 105,000 (only about 11% increase where it should have been closer to 48% by my estimation). I did have all 3 npcs summoned but that shouldn't affect the soul amount right? I can't figure it out, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Not just this exact spot either but throughout all of Drangleic. Even knowing the game, it still saves me some time when I run across it.
