Dark Souls 2 No death run

Dark Souls 2 No death run

    No death run

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 10:14 AM PST

So yesterday I started a crappy cleric build, and somehow it turned into a no death run attempt.

I managed to get all the way to the Undead Crypt (only had Velstadt, Thronies and Nashandra to beat) to only then get killed by the Nameless Usurper npc (I made the stupid choice not to heal at a certain time).

Really good for my first attempt!

I'm on run #2 and I'm at the Earthen Peak.

    Wish me luck!

Update: Died in run #2 in the gutter. Rolling backwards on platforms is a bad idea

    First playthrough discussion.

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 08:53 AM PST

So after completing my first playthrough I'd like to share some thoughts. I enjoyed the length of this game. It was a little confusing as to what I was supposed to do next, and I had to ask a friend how to progress occasionally. It did seem a little easier than DSR, but everyone says your first souls game is the hardest. I went with a melee build, powerstancing great clubs. I enjoyed the Big Bonk build. Favorite area: Iron Keep, once I got a greatbow. It really evens the odds. (Same strategy I employed on the twin archers in Anor Londo.)
Least favorite area: Black Gulch or the Frigid Outskirts. I was torn between the poison statues and just not being able to see. Easiest boss: Prowling Magus or Royal Rat Vanguard. Boss that gave me the most trouble: Darklurker Least favorite boss: Royal Rat Authority Favorite Boss: the Fume Knight, hands down. A short run back between attempts, and a fair, but grueling duel. I felt like I had truly accomplished something when he went down.
I took advice and leveled ADP early, and didn't really find any trouble or feel like I was at disadvantage before, but it got even better once I leveled it.
Overall a great game with a lot of replay value. Now on to the platinum!

    Questions on Powerstance

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 09:46 AM PST

I've never tried out power stance so I lack some knowledge with it. If using the blue flame in the right hand is there any weapon you can powerstance with it to get a thrust moveset for the powerstance attacks? Like if you powerstance right hand blue flame and left hand estoc would the resulting powerstance be thrust attacks?

So im going through the challenge of getting the illusory rings in ds2, wanted to know if leveling up with her is considered a bonfire.

After years and years of playing, I just discovered the power of resonant soul

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 11:10 AM PST

I've never played casters in the soulsborne series. I prefer melee builds. I recently decided to try my hand at miracles in SotFS to spice things up.

At first I was underwhelmed, as it seemed all the coolest miracles were late game ones, so I decided to switch to a hex build. I bought resonant soul and started casting.

Holy shit that hex is a game changer. I can't believe you are given such a broken hex so early in the game. 21 casts is insane for the power it dishes out.

I am really excited to try more hexes now and am glad I switched builds. It's making me more excited to play than I have been in years.

Why have I never used the long sword before?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 08:42 AM PST

It honestly has the best moveset that a straight sword can have. What is everyone else's favorite straight sword?

    First dark souls ever

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 09:28 AM PST

This is the first time I ever touched a dark souls game, thought I'd ask and see if anyone would be interested in viewing a stream of me dying and dying to stupid things and my constantly disconnecting controller

    New to the game

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 08:12 AM PST

Hi im new to dark souls 2, ive played and beaten (dlc included) DS3 and BB. Man I was not prepared for how much slower pace this game is but ill say it's been fun so far(I'm only a little bit into the game, im at hiedes tower of flame) but I have a few questions. 1. Im going to be playing a dex build and was wondering if power stance is worth it or if I should just use one weapon. I really like the idea of power stance since I used paired weapons in ds3. 2. Life gems VS your estus flask: is estus still really good, or is this a blood vile situation where im gonna need to grind for life gems 3. Is there anything I really need to know before my playthrough goes into full swing that ds3 and bb wouldn't have prepared me for.

    King's Pets PTSD

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 07:51 PM PST

So I'm 3 trophies away from the platinum on my first playthrough, and just finished the game for the first time. (First of all, I LOVED it. I dont understand the hate it gets.) But being in the American south, I am highly unaccustomed to snow/ice/angry-rain. Currently outside its a frozen iced over wasteland. One of the last things I did in the game was fight the Ivory King's pets. I stepped outside IRL earlier and could only see a couple feet in front of my face. I heard a noise and started to instinctively dodge. Fuck those reindeer and their infinite aggro range.

    Issues connecting this friend?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 01:02 PM PST

We made sure neither of us were soft banned, we could both see other peoples signs, had similar soul level AND memory, even worr the engraved ring same god, As well as trying with cross region play on and off, Could never get each other's signs to pop up (we didn't have our signs down at the same time either) Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Really wanting to play together but the game is refusing

    PVP Min-Max question

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 12:58 PM PST

    Is this a good idea:

    Create 2 characters:

One to cap at 150SL for BOB arena.

One to mix-max lvl up and only spend souls on levelling and endgame equipment so I will always be at the highest SL per SM tier, this toon would be used for invasions etc.

    Is this the mix-max way?

    Raime: A love letter

    Posted: 17 Feb 2021 04:15 PM PST

Raime, the fume knight, a foe that actually manages to keep my heart racing throughout the boss fight each time. No other boss gives me that feeling of fairness when handing my ass to me. No other foe beats me to a pulp and I approve of it wholeheartedly. Most bosses in DS2, after having beaten this game countless times, pose no challenge to me anymore. Sinh and Elana are fun but pose no real challenge anymore, all main game bosses (even Velstadt) have become too easy. Alonne and the ivory king do give me some excitement when I engage them. But Raime is different, his sense of timing is all over the place, he changes up his combos while doing those combos and he smells the scent of estus whenever I even think about drinking it to regain health. Whenever I think that he does his 3 move black flame fugs combo, he actually adds one more swing as the cheeky bastard that he is, or he stops after swinging only 2 times just for shits and giggles. When he seemingly ends his combo, when I even dare to take out my flask, he abruptly changes his combo to punish my naiveness.

Fighting Raime is a joy every time. For every time I have to fight him I have to learn his timings all over again, I have to train my eyes to notice even the slightest change in his behavior to effectively dodge or counterattack/heal. He keeps me on my toes and I love him for that.

Looking for DEX weapon suggestions for PVE

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 03:33 AM PST

I'm running a DEX build but my STR is pretty good. I'm at 50 DEX and 35 STR right now and I'm up to Shrine of Amana. I've been using the Rapier so far. I'm happy with the Rapier's damage, but the pokey pokey move set is kinda boring and I'd like to branch out, especially for crowd control.

What should I try? I haven't been really drawn to UGSs because I find the move set to be too slow, but if it's worth learning to play with I could work on it. I just beat Bloodborne and I liked playing with the faster weapons like Sawspear if that helps at all. I realize the combat in DS2 has a different pace than BB, but I do tend to prefer to dodge around and 2h as opposed to using a shield.

Btw, I'm playing SOTFS on PS4.

    Thanks!!

    What a game

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 12:05 PM PST

My first play through of this game was interesting. I decided to ditch the shield for most of the game in favor of rolling and pyromancy. I was a primarily melee character with light intelligence and attunement for soul arrows and pyromancy. Strategy for most bosses. Was dodge all attacks and get a hit in with my axe. I would also get a summon to distract the boss while I pelted it with soul arrows and fireballs then finishing it off with a couple of swings from my +10 raw axe. Overall 7.5/8 better than DSR

    Aldia is not showing up

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 11:46 AM PST

I killed all four bosses and lit all the four bonfires, but Aldia did not show up. When Aldia was added to the game? I have version 1.07 with DLC's and this is NG+. I didn't see it on my first playthrough either.

Is this a bug or just because of version of the game?

Double death tie BoB arena doubt

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 12:37 AM PST

Lately, I've been fighting a lot in the arena, and quite some times my opponent and I end up dead at the same time with the same sword swing.

However... Every time that happens, I see "defeat" on my screen.
Does that mean he gets a victory? Or does he get a defeat too? Why do I always get a defeat? On what criteria does the game give priority if it gives?

    Thanks for your answers.

Hybrid caster build that's not OP?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2021 07:16 AM PST

    Hey folks!

I played Dark Souls 2 at launch but never finished it. I'm gonna pick up a ps4 copy so I can give it another shot for RtD, and I'm really excited! I think this time I want to incorporate some magic in my build. I've never finished a souls game with a magic user, aside from a few lightning spears or fireballs in DS1, and it seems like DS2 would be the place to do it, as I remember DS2 having a wide variety of magic options. However, I'm not a fan of just spamming nukes, so I want to make a character that retains some melee characteristics. What's more, as I've looked around for caster build options, it seems most of them end up overpowered and steamroll through content. That's also not my jam. I don't mind having an ace or two up my sleeve, but I want to appreciate the challenge of the game. Does anyone know of a fun build that'll let me play around with the plethora of magic options without relying too heavily on them or becoming a boss stomping god? I know I could always build a character with strong hexing stats and then just make myself use weapons some of the time, but that kind of artificial restriction doesn't feel fun to me. I don't mind limiting what I have access to, but if I have access to something, I don't want to limit it! Does that make sense?

TL;DR - what's a viable build that will let me try out a variety of magics while still needing to hit stuff and engage in a challenge?
