Ever do really well on a boss the first time then never again?

Yeah. First time playing Dark Souls. Got through most of Blighttown without much trouble. First time doing Quelaag I got her down to two more hits, but I used an Estus at the wrong time and died. Now I'm on my fourth attempt and doing stupid shit like rolling into the lava and dying. Beyond frustrating.

Is the Black Knight Sword OP? So far my first blind playthrough has been pretty easy.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:43 PM PST

I recently just platinumed Demon's Souls Remake, and it was also my first Souls game. I bought the Dark Souls Trilogy a few days ago and started with DS1. I'm loving it so far, and doing it blind is really enjoyable, but I find it to be a little easy? I killed that one black knight in Undead Burg which was how I got the sword (I also have the Black Knight Greatsword from another Knight I killed, haven't used it yet). But so far I've managed to kill the Taurus, Capra, Moonlight Butterfly, and Bell Gargoyles on the first try. The Gaping dragon took me two. I'm one-shotting most basic enemies, and the most difficulty I've found so far have actually been the mini bosses. Have I made the game too easy? And was I supposed to kill the Knight that early?

Btw I haven't upgraded anything and I think I'm around soul level 30-ish. I'm a quality build with 20 in dex and strength.

    THANK YOU!!

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:36 PM PST

Ive just beaten Dark Souls for the first time. Im feeling a sense of accomplishment that I cannot describe. To most of you who have beaten it a couple of times with ease, might not be able to relate with me. But this is a big thing for me so I had to share it with you guys as without you it wouldve been nearly impossible. Ive always known myself as an impatient person, the quitter, the rager etc etc. Ive uninstalled quite a lot of games in the past since apparently I was either bad at them or because I simply did not like them. So I thought it would be futile to attempt to play a game belonging to a series which is said to be the hardest and most difficult game series of all time. I kind of did it anyway. Aand I uninstalled after trying to beat Taurus Demon a few times. I had thought that Im not able enough to do this. But then I saw a video from a youtuber called The Act Man. He explained in that video how Dark Souls 1 is a masterpiece. And after watching that I was hooked. I knew I had to finish this game. And so I was off to achieve that. I had thought that this time wouldnt be much different. But as I went through defeating each boss, I actually thought that there was a possibility that a noob like me could finish this game. But I had hard times where I was just stuck and couldn't move forward. And that's where you guys came to help. I actually mean it when I say that I have never seen a more welcoming and cordial game subreddit/group than this. Everyone was so helpful. So a BIG part of my accomplishment is all you. So I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. I know it's a big ass post for a not so big occasion but thanks to whoever read to the end. And Ill see you in the next Dark Souls game. Thanks again. Till then, take care.

A not so nice welcome to the DS1 PvP community :((

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:17 PM PST

    https://imgur.com/gallery/Oc4iwfC

So I'm about 4 days old in the DS1 PvP world, and I'm trying to get to grips and hone in on my skill! BUT, my experience with the playerbase has been pretty lame. All I've encountered is group ganks, broken builds and opponents running away and healing in hiding spots etc.

This wouldn't be a problem if these players didn't demonstrate such serious and elitist attitudes toward the game and to fellow players. I know the SoulsBorne community can get a bad rep but I must say this really took me aback (this message I received was one of a few).

I'm saddened that there are so very little players active - over my 4 days I've probably only been encountering the same 10 or so players every single day (a couple of which have sent me messages like this). I play on PS4 and have matchmaking set to global and unrestricted - is there any way I could possibly broaden my PvP experience to a larger playerbase? Or is this truly it? I can't believe it really is. Needless to say it's really putting a damper on my fun and making it quite difficult to enjoy improving my skills.

Hope you all have some insight or advice on the matter, I'm not ready to lose hope for the current PvP community just yet!

    All the best to ya

    I love Sif

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:15 PM PST

That's it, it's my favourite boss until now (I'm still midway through my first playthrough so this opinion might change in the future).I just love the design, the lore, the difficulty of the battle, it is difficult when you don't know how to beat it but once you figure out how to attack her it becomes a really fair fight. Idk I just love her.

    Worth leveling up?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:47 AM PST

I have reached lvl 51 and now I need almost 16000 souls to level up.

My levels are : dex - 25, str - 20, vit - 22, end - 22, i have leveled up even attunement and magic. I have just unlocked sen's fortress and finished the darkroot area. Do i need to level up further for the last fight?

Beat Catacombs boss but can't see...

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:44 AM PST

Hello all I joined the dark souls gang at ds2 and have remained spoiler free for all games so far. between 2 and 3 I have over 1.5k hours so I'm okay with difficult enemies... But if I can't handle endlessly dying in pits that i can't see. I want to stay spoiler free but are there torches for the Tomb of Giants or is it just follow the prism stones. I'm currently lvl 34 and unsure if I need torches somewhere. If I do how do I leave the catacombs? (ps the wheel skeletons are like 100x worse in this one and I laughed at first until I kept dying to them lol)

    Life and Dark Souls

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:25 AM PST

When life is hard, you usually become depressed and contemplate suicide.

When life is easy, you get easily bored and will find yourself looking for a bigger high, time after time.

Same thing goes for video games,

If it's too hard, you want to quit it before you even start it.

If it's too easy, you get bored fast, and never rely get back to it.

    Have you played Dark Souls?

Then you know there is no challenge big enough that can take away your resolve, and you will love it and hate it at the same time.

    Best f*cking game ever!

Can someone help me understand what this gold orb/ring was?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:32 PM PST

I'm on my very first play through. I had just beaten the iron golem on top of Sen's Fortress and was flown up to Anor Londo. I'm not familiar with the area so I flew back down to spend my souls before exploring.

I go to the bonfire on the top ledge of the fortress, level up and start heading back to the pink birdies but on the first set of stairs going up after the bonfire, I turn around and there is a gold orb/ring thing in the ground. It looks pretty much identical to the one you touch in order to fly up to Anor Londo but there is no interaction option. After about 15 seconds or so it disappears.

I did a quick google search but found nothing. Is this just a glitch or did I miss something? I'm going hollow thinking about it.

Just to be 100% clear it is not the gold ring in the boss arena you touch in order to fly up to Anor Londo, though identical in appearance. It was out of the first rooftop exit after the bonfire next to where the giant throws fireballs at you.

Whoever made the music for the boss fight with Gwyn was cookin. First time I went through that fog gate that music threw me off because of how good I was. Great song for a boss like that.

    Kalameet was so damn hard...

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:54 PM PST

...until I tried blocking him. It took me ~30 tries (most of any boss) to figure him out 'cause I was so intent on trying to dodge his moves but 1) he has so many damn moves!! 2) his range is pretty big. I tried different armor combos but none worked. It was hard to use my pyromancies since I didnt have high dex to cast faster. So I thought fuck it imma just block this guy and it made the fight so damn simple!! I only used like 3 estus to get him down to one hit and I tried to cut his tail but I didn't and he just died when I hit his tail lol (quite frustrated at that). Probably the hardest boss for me (along with bell gargoyles, O&S, and Artorias) but was probably the most fulfilling experience yet.

    Gushing about the Great Club

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:51 PM PST

I just want to say, the Great Club is the sickest weapon. I'm playing with basically no poise or shield, and I totally love this moveset. I know it has a pretty bad R2, and a slow R1 but I don't care lol.

Each time I level END enough to chain one more 2HR1 is so exciting. The 2HR2 has the most bullshit range ever, every time I think I'm going to miss and I never do. Even when I miss, the stun from the move lets me get a R1 out immediately.

Now let me talk about the roll attack. The roll attack is practically an AOE. It's hard to time, but it's so useful to catch jumpy enemies because the hitbox is the size of Ornstein lmao. The jump attack is so funny to catch enemies right before their animation starts and it does massive damage.

    In conclusion: Great Club OP

Dark Souls Knight 3D Model by my 11 year old brother!

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:13 AM PST

Apologies if its not a quality post but I just wanted to share that my youngest brother created a 3D model of a Knight from one of my most favorite game: DARK SOULS

He creates 3D models and stuff most of the time but it was a surprise for me to find a Dark Souls related video on his channel. He really makes me proud creating these models and is motivated enough to keep it up! :) :) :)

Please show him some love (like/subscribe to his channel) on his video as it really motivates him to put more heart and effort into his videos :
    Link to the video

(I can forward to him your kind suggestions and comments you leave for him in the comment section)

Not respawning at last bonfire - DSR

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:20 AM PST

Has any one else encountered this issue of lighting and then resting at a new bonfire and then when I died I did not spawn at this bonfire but the one I had used previously before my new bonfire I've had this happen twice now in my playthrough and it's really annoying

My First (but not last) Dark Souls Faux Pas.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:35 PM PST

At least I was wise enough to not have consumed TWO Fire Keeper Souls ignorantly believing them to simply be high value soul items, then finding out that they were necessary for health recovery and that I wouldn't be getting another one to buff my Estus until AFTER I had somehow managed to beat Ornstien and Smough, but not before I was forced to fight off Knight Lautrec and his merry men, which overall consequently had a massive detrimental effect on the remainder of the game, (thatI still went onto complete mind you), in my first ever playthrough of Dark Souls 5 years ago....

Because if I did, that would have been a dumb thing to have done...
