    At least for me.

This game is clearly the biggest and lengthiest of the series.

It has the most armor and weapon variety, you can mix and match however you like.

The game has the most secrets, illusionary walls everywhere, Pharros doors... many areas to which access requires some thinking and figuring out.

Majula, by far the best hub area in the Souls series, it feels like a genuine safe place which is something that other games failed to do, you feel the sense of danger in all the other souls hub areas, Majula serves as some reprieve from the brutal gameplay.

NG+ which is miles ahead anything other in Souls games. New items, new enemies, new boss mechanics...

the PvP is also the best in the series, the most build variety and it feels the most rewarding, the community is also great!

This all in my opinion contributes to a fantastic world that was built by FromSoft, the story feels like an epic and the number of areas really makes you feel like you progress and slog through closer to the goal. The first time that you see Drangleic castle, you get reminded how powerful king Vendrick was and up untill that point the scale of the areas was much smaller and didn't feel awe inspiring, it feels like you start off as a piece of shit and as you move through the game you see places that you know are meant for "powerful" beings. You know that if you were placed in Drangleic castle or Dragon Aerie at the start of the game you'd get your ass handed to you without needing to fight an enemy to figure it out.

The game just feels more enjoyable to play for some reason, even though some of the bosses are poorly designed, it gives me more pleasure to play through DS2 than DS1, D3 or DeS

    It finally happened to me

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 02:09 PM PST

Started a new character and was up to the point in Heides Tower where the spear knight kept absolutely destroying me, when I got invaded. Thought to myself "son of a bitch what now" when all of sudden the invader ran past me to the bonfire. He proceeded to drop 99x of everything! He gave me so many souls I went from level 40 to level 220. I hear about this happening to people all the time but never thought It'd happen to me. So thank you random invader! Although now I need to make another character because ng at level 220 is just crazy unfair lol

Which bow is best bow? An analysis.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 06:03 AM PST

I've started a bow-only run (also an only-playing-while-exercising run, which has done wonders for my exercise motivation), and it's tricky picking out a good bow to focus on with the data that's available online. Bows don't really have as many subjective qualities as weapons, because the moveset is basically identical between them. The only real difference between bows are:

-damage (base/scaling/elemental, they all have 100 counter and 5 poise except GBs which have 15)

    -rate of fire

    -stamina consumption

-stat requirements (mostly irrelevant for a bow-focused build)

-weight (very minor, except for greatbows)

    -range (lol)

Since the latter three elements are mostly ignorable, that means we're mostly interested in the damage and RoF, with stamina consideration a secondary priority. Unfortunately, while damage info is easy to find on wikis, there isn't any info (at least on the ones I use) about RoF or stamina. But luckily I've got a char with all weapons, so I did some testing.

    Rate of Fire data:

There are two main tiers for your "good" bows.

Short Bow and Hunters Black Bow fire at the same rate, roughly 5 shots in 6 seconds.

Sea Bow, Composite Bow, Long Bow, and Bow of Want fire a bit slower, roughly 6.7 seconds, almost certainly at identical rates.

Bell Keeper's bow was slower, at around 7.7 seconds, and dragonrider bow was slower still.

The greatbows were all significantly slower, with alonne the fastest, then possessed armor and dragonslayer slower and about the same, and then twin headed as unbelievably slow. I didn't have as good of data because they consumed a lot more stamina, but Alonne seems to be easily the best imo.

The upshot for your "good" bows is that you could add ~12% damage to the short bow and HBB for the improved RoF compared to the others.

    Stamina Comsumption data:

The HBB and short bow followed the pattern from the RoF data by using slightly less, though the difference between them and the long bow and BoW was relatively minimal, maybe 2%. The sea bow used a bit more, maybe 4-5%. The big loser here was the composite bow, which used quite a bit more, I'm guessing 10%.

    Conclusions:

I got a bit lazy at this point because it's pretty obvious what we all probably suspected: HBB is pretty clearly the best bow all-around. It does a bit less damage (depending on scaling) than the composite bow, but makes it up easily on RoF.

The big loser, in my eyes, was the sea bow, which a lot of people like and consider comparable to HBB, but to my eyes it doesn't seem to stack up very well with its weaker RoF, middle-of-the-pack damage, and unimpressive stamina consumption. I could imagine it making sense as a secondary weapon for some builds that don't meet HBB dex requirements, but I don't think it makes sense for a dex-focused build. That said, it is technically availably quite early, so for those with the patience to farm it it's a decent option for a bow run. Personally I think I'll stick with the short bow or the long bow, either for the superior RoF or the better dex scaling, until I get the HBB.

For greatbows, Alonne seemed like the clear winner to me just based on RoF, but it's ofc going to be subjective if you're willing to put up with the much slower firing speed of a greatbow for the added damage (plus the increased ammunition cost in PvE). The dragonrider bow is somewhere in the middle between greatbows and regular bows, with RoF and stamina close to the Alonne bow (would have to retest to be sure), but potentially a reasonable option for someone who's ok with the slower RoF but wants a lighter weapon with cheap ammo.

Yeah, i might just be the biggest jerk around

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 07:21 AM PST

So i was on the iron king dlc in a new run (quarantine what can i say) and i got invaded.

First thought "there are other people playing this? ONLINE? ON XBOX?" Yes, yes and yes apparently.

I'm overall garbage in pvp so i thought that at this day and age in a old game could only be a lord of pvp.

My plan? Disguised myself in the environment so the dude goes away (judge me, se if i care). Took the opportunity to eat something, bathroom and etc.

Last thing i see is the dude passing straight in front of me. Cue something like 10 to 15 minutes and dude is still on my world so i say "screw it" and go to the bonfire to meet him (of course he is there) and die instantaneously.

Except i kinda demolished the bro. So now i'm feeling like a butt for wasting his time and still killing him. It was very funny tho.

What makes this game's DLC so good?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 01:13 PM PST

I've never really got on the Dark Souls 2 wagon until recently and I'm really loving the game (SOTFS). Playing Dark Souls 3 really makes me want to either play Dark Souls 1 or Bloodborne for some weird reason, but this game is actually really cool!

Now, to my original question. I didn't think the DLC was that amazing. Out of the three expansions, I'd say Crown of the Sunken King is my favourite. That being said, it has more of the boss design BS Dark Souls 2 is known for (Elana being able to summon Velstadt for example) and the three grave robbers boss fight.

Crown of the Old Iron King and Crown of the Ivory King were pretty cool in terms of looks (seeing Brume Tower and Frozen Eleum Loyce for the first time, not to mention that epic Burnt Ivory King entrance), but I absolutely hated Iron Passage and not to mention the Frigid Outskirts and Lud and Zallen bossfight.

I'd like to hear why you guys regard (or disregard) the DLC so much.

SIDE NOTE: Watching the first hour or so of Dist2's all bosses speedrun has already made me realize that there is A LOT of stuff and niffty tricks that I just didn't have the braincells for to come up with or figure out on my own, so I guess I deserve a few "git gud" comments as well.

    Early-to-mid game strength weapons

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 12:01 PM PST

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good strength weapon early on in the game? Something worth investing upgrade materials in to carry me until I find something super fun later on.

I'm doing pretty well with the hand axe right now but, you know, it's a hand axe. Bit boring innit?

I'm finally planning on finishing Dark souls 2 after so many time deleting and reinstalling the game my question is in Majula The black castle in the distance like I'm pretty sure it is what i think it is but just to be sure is it Drangleic Castle ? If so that's so sick that you can see it from that distance

Any way to get Vanilla DS2 on pc in 2021?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 02:04 PM PST

I can't seem to find it online...I saw something on Steam that was all the DLC plus DS2 for $39.99 which is too much since I bought scholar 4 times already between consoles, a physical copy and pc

I just want a copy of DS2 on its own...

I keep hearing it is a better experience...

How hard is "The Dark Soul" achievement compared to 1 & 3?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 01:53 PM PST

I was just wondering how difficult all achievements are compared to 1 & 3. I just finished all achievements on DS1 yesterday and DS3 a while ago, which is kind of making me wanna go for DS2 a little bit. I think the main deal breaker is how hard the Learn all [Spells] achievement, meaning is it like DS1 where I can decently farm covenant items in PvE or would I have to do PvP for some items like in DS3? Thank you in advance, Praise the Sun!

Weapons type difficult to master or even difficult to do use in general?

Im gonna replay the game after years and want to start learning the hard part

Any tips on how to start liking DarkSouls 2?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 01:03 PM PST

I just don't know how I can start liking this. I just find it too frustrating with all the ganks and basically imbossibility to move after getting hit.

I got 17 hours in this game just by trying several playstyles and nothing seems to quite work well. On my first attempt I wanted to try a strength build but somehow when I equip the Greatsword I hardly ever hit the enemy because the enemy just stands a centimeter to the left or to the right so that the vertical attack of the Greatsword doesn't hit. Then I get ganked. I don't know if it's just me that the aim seems horrible.

I then also tried another character with fully focusing on leveling Adaptability(or however that attribute was called) to increase my invincibility frames but even then I have too little health to even survive a few hits. (And again the stagger is too long).

I also tried a dex build but there I basically had the same problem with the aiming getting staggered.

I also tried the sorcerer as a starting class but idk what I can say about it anymore. It's been some month since I tried the sorcerer.

So I would like to know how you guys deal with the beginning on Dark Souls 2? Do you guys concentrate on your adaptability first or do you focus on damage. And are piercing weapons and vertical hitting weapons even worth it? Because they constantly miss. Is it better to use horizontaly hitting weapons? What could you recommend?

Just got to earthen peak on NG+

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 12:49 PM PST

How the fuck do you beat all (like 8) of those hook hand bastards!? They all get aggro at the same time and they follow you everywhere! This is my first new game+ run and ds2 easily has the hardest new game+ stuff already.

Edit: did it but holy fuck this is probably the first time a strength build wasn't a walk in the park

Is there anybody here playing this game on PS3?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2021 07:54 AM PST

Because I do, and I wanted to know how many people on this Reddit page also does. Maybe there's someone here that I know. Also, to any PS3 players, old or new, I offer co-op assistance if you need to or PvP duels if you feel like fighting someone different :)
