I am addicted to this fucking game

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 11:08 AM PST

No other game has made me want to keep playing it over and over again, except Dark Souls. I don't know what it is, maybe it's the fact that each playthrough makes me better prepared for the next, or the insane number of different weapons/classes, but something about this game is just so captivating. Just wanted to share my appreciation for this game lol

I Opened the Kiln, do I enter?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 08:25 AM PST

So, I just opened the kiln on my first play through. Can I go in, fight Gwyn, then continue to play on this file? Or is there no going back and I must start a new game after the boss fight? I still want to do the DLC and maybe upgrade covenants

What weapons to use a noob?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 06:18 AM PST

Hey guys, I'm just on my first playthrough on ds remastered. I don't want to look too much up and have kept wiki searches and looking up walkthroughs to a minimum but recently I've just had a query about weapons.

I've just gotten off the Draken Sword and started using the Black Knight Sword, but it feels quite slow and tanky whereas I'm thinking of doing a more balanced build.

Should I wait until I find another "special" weapon, or is it fine to just grab a standard weapon (eg a sword off the merchant in Undead Burg) and just upgrade the shit out of it? I have minimal experience with different weapons as I've only really used the broadsword and the draken. Cheers.

    Dark Souls Virgin

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:56 PM PST

I recently purchased Dark Souls remastered, for the Nintendo Switch. Honestly I can't believe For whatever reason I basically stopped playing video games, right around the time this was originally released.

But I also believe now that I'm 30 Years old, I enjoy this game more than I would have at 20.

    Anyways just a thought.

Crossbreed Priscilla is impossible to kill...

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 08:51 PM PST

I mean, who would be heartless enough to hurt such a cute little thing? No matter how much I can gain from killing her, I just cannot do it. I'd sooner kill Manus and Midir at the same time than to kill muh queen.

Is it true that boss weapons are pretty bad in this game?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 12:08 AM PST

My friend told me to not bother making boss weapons as they usually suck. Is that true?

    Just completed my first playthrough

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 10:56 PM PST

Nine years after my first attempt, I picked up DSR for Switch a week ago. I was never able to enjoy this style of game the first two times I had tried to pick it up, but after beating Monster Hunter World earlier this year I finally felt like I understood the appeal of "hard" games.

Oh my goodness, DSR was a breath of fresh air. I was playing a dex heavy run with the scimitar until I found the great scythe. Talk about a game changer, I became absolutely obsessed at this point. After beating O+S (took about 15 tries), I then began to really pick up steam and rallied the remaining bosses.

It was an incredible experience. When I defeated Gwyn I set my switch down and just smiled for a bit. What a wonderful experience.

    TLDR: finally "got gud"

    I beat Kalameet first try!!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 10:24 PM PST

It's my first ever run of a Souls game, and I beat Kalameet on my first try! (After he is grounded of course) After people saying how hard he would be, I feel accomplished. (Albeit, I am rather overleveled from the main story)

Update on my Resistance build run and why im doing it. Also why can't I post screenshots of my statistics in this community?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 07:37 PM PST

So I've been doing this resistance build in dark souls. I've been doing alright I suppose. I just got my first lord soul from Seath the Scaleless. However, I've been trying to stay fully armored and in doing so I've become a fat roller so I've been upgrading endurance quite a bit lately trying to possibly move up to Elite knight armor or heavier. It's tough. I'm running the fire +7 morning star as my primary and ive avoided sunbro so he doesn't die before I save him from his very own Sun. Also Frampt hates me cause I didnt talk to him before placing the lawdy lawdy vessel. Ive already fought the 4 kings like 5 times and got half way before they decided to spam attacks in me together (Yes they do wait before getting impatient and attacking). Im having a great time with this tanky run and I'm doing this because there's a character I like from berserk. The big guy with the hammer. I just liked how he sorta held his own for a minute with raw tanky endurance against the apostles. Anyways, im having immense fun maybe next go about i will build something like a crossbow character or something. Also below (or above) is my stats, and Pippin from Berserk.

    Nintendo Switch player base?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 02:40 AM PST

I played a few weeks purely as hollow which I regret since I feel like I've missed a huge part of the game so I restarted my character.

How is the invasion frequency on the Switch? I've changed my internet settings to "Global" instead of "Regional".

I'd love to get that extra adrenaline rush from time to time^

Hi, I'm having a ton of trouble with O & S. Any tips?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 07:00 PM PST

Hi, as the title says, I am having sooooo much trouble with Ornstein and Smough. I am using the gold heamed black armor and am bellow 25% weight, and have a +10 BSS, and am using a +5 grass crest shield. I've tried shielding and dodging and killing either of them first but to no avail. Does anyone have any tips besides hiding behind the pillars? Thanks!

Bell gargoyles man, I can’t believe it

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 09:25 PM PST

I've played this game a half dozen time but today is the first time I've ever died to them. I cannot beat them for whatever reason. It's unreal, I can put a bunch of hours into the game, feel confident and just get my shit rocked. I dunno if I'm overconfident but at this point in time I'm going into my 8th try and if I don't do it in the next one or two I gotta come back tomorrow. Attempt number 9 here we go wish me luck

Which Dark Souls game was it where rubbish was actually useful?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 11:51 PM PST

I know in one of the DS games rubbish could actually be used for something, does anyone remember which one and what it did?

My younger brother just beat Ornstein and Smough on his second try.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:09 PM PST

I feel so proud. It took a while to get him to start ds1 and it took a lot of encouragement to get him to keep playing. However now I feel confident that he will finish dark souls and it makes me pretty happy. It also makes me wonder why people say ornstein and smough are extremely difficult. It only took me 5 tries to beat them and now my brother did it in 2.

Any reason to stay in the Forest Hunters in offline?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 11:35 PM PST

I plan on playing exclusively offline for my first play through. Joined the Forest Hunters before I really knew what they did, but I know that once I betray I can't go back. Is there a good reason I should stay? I kinda want to use the area for soul farming...

    Where did Solaire go??

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 08:26 PM PST

(This is my first playthrough, sorry in advance if i made any silly mistakes) I defeated the centipede demon with Solaire and i saw him at the bonfire outside of the arena. I talked to him and went to the chaos daughter and killed her for the firekeeper soul (the half dragons scared me.) I went back to said bonfire and he was gone. I looked up where he could have gone but since i killed the chaos daughter I can't seem to reach him anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Should I buy Demon's Souls for PS5 or wait?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 08:10 PM PST

Dumb question I know so let me clarify. I'm currently playing Bastion and Transistor to fill the time until Cyberpunk comes out. Since Cyberpunk releases in 3 days, I haven't bought Demon's Souls. I have beaten Sekiro and Bloodborne, but have never played any of the Souls games. Should I say "screw it" and pick it up even though I will probably stop playing it for a long time since Witcher 3 took over my entire videogame time for months and am assuming Cyberpunk will do the same, or just wait for a while and buy it after my Cyberpunk obsession softens?

Second time beating the game and I am no longer a filthy casual!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:07 PM PST

I tried the Prepare to Die edition when it first launched on PC. After 20 hours of playing I couldn't beat the gargoyle and just gave up.

    That was 9 years ago.

Since then I got into Risen, Two worlds II, and Elex. Games with janky combat but required more skill then most RPGs to make sure you live through combat. Stats scaled better but blocking and dodging in combat was required. Not as hard as Dark Souls but enough to make me consider that Ive gotten better at gaming.

And with that I thought I got gud enough for Dark Souls. With a little coaching and advice from a friend I was able to beat the remaster on ps4. But that wasn't enough. No I had to beat it on steam so that if any of my friends checked my profile they would see that I had beaten it at least once. I only have 2 friends on PSN which I haven't seen on in years. So I beat it again. Within 5 hours of starting the game I had beaten the gargoyle in 2 attempts. Most of that was grinding out extra stamina and faith in the forest as well as getting souls and titanite to upgrade my armor/weapons. I started the game as a cleric and ended up beating Gwyn with a fully upgraded cleric set. I used a gargoyle helm through much of the game until I got the helm that gives off light all the time. It was lighter then the g-helm and again, gave off light. The mace was sufficient through all of the game as well. I only used the divine claymore in the crypt area. The only 2 bosses I didnt beat this run were Dark Sun Gwyndolin, I couldnt bring myself to attack her, and Kalameet. I didnt try to hard on Kalameet because I wanted to try a different build/weapon next play through and use that on him.

Someone once told me that "dark souls isnt a numbers game." I disagree. I believe its not a typical number game of RPG. Upgrading stats, weapons, and armor helps, just not to the degree of other games. I understand the sentiment that I cant expect to level up so far as to 1 shot a boss and be done with it. Its still a numbers game in more ways then one. Heavy armor, higher encumbrance, fewer rolls until your stamina bar is depleted. Less encumbrance, more rolls until your bar runs out. Stronger attacks, better weapons, means fewer hits needed to bring down a boss, etc. I had 36 str by the end of the game. With some bosses and resists that took off varrying degrees of health. I could see between weapon and strength upgrades the difference it made.

I also stopped being a filthy casual when I learned how to parry. Im not an expert yet but I was able to start parrying the painted assassins/guardians in Anor Londo then progressed to a few others beyond that. I was able to parry all of the knights from the lord vessel down to Gwyn, 4 different attack styles. Im going to give that a shot when I do Dark Souls 2 but that wont be until after I finish 2077.

Its not much of an accomplishment, but its mine.
