Does anyone just sit in firelink?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:46 PM PST

Does anyone else load up dark souls, put the headphones and just sit in firelink? I find it calms me and I just go deep into my imagination thinking about what it would actually feel like to be sitting there and other random thoughts and questions. Just looking out into the high clouds up above and the distant layers of walls down below. Different shades of light and deep blues and blending green mossy walls giving of a mysterious hue.

That probably seems weird and doesn't make sense but some of u must feel the same surely. The only way I can describe the feeling is like looking up into the stars on a clear night wondering and imagining. I can lose myself in it.

I would love to expand on what I mean but I'm tired and on a mobile and typing is hard enough.

Sorry for the very random post.

Huge new discovery rocks Dark Souls speedrunning - explained

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 05:42 AM PST

Hey everyone, I am catalyst and I am a speedrun world record holder in both DS and DSR. Last time I posted a video here it seemed like it was quite enjoyed by the community, so I decided to post my newest one as well.

About a month and a half ago a completely new way to Wrong Warp was discovered, shaving off 8 minutes from an already short 30 minute speedrun. In the video we go over how this glitch was discovered, how it works exactly, what changed in the common speedrunning routes and go over a brief history of speedrun world records achieved with this glitch.

Please, there is no reason to debate whether you like glitched or glitchless speedruns here, I simply present to you an explanation of what has gone down and I think, regardless of your preference, it is quite amazing that such a thing exists within the game and that the community has been able to figure this out.

Enjoy the rest of the year, everyone!

I still can't get over the fact that Super Ornstein does a butt slam

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 03:49 PM PST

I mean, captain of the Four Knights of Gwyn, slayers of dragons and apprentice to the Nameless King...

And he does a butt slam.

And apparently, he brought over this ability to his dark version in Dark Souls 2.

I think Smough had a bad influence on him.

I went into Tomb of Giants unaware that I would need the Lord Vessel to go through, I am at the second bonfire and cannot for the life of me figure out how to get out without going through the boss fight, any help would be appreciated (Edit: I am now out of the tomb and in the catacombs, thank you to everyone who helped!)

    1st playthrough memories.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 02:22 AM PST

Dark souls was one of my first video game experience. Before it I played only mario bros, and kart. Didn't help me understand what was going on. I started with the adventurer (not sure if it's his name, it's the aventurier in french so I'm not sure... The guy with the scimitar and the hood.) and the black firebombs. I die on the asylum demon before understanding that I must get out. I get my shield and my sword, die 2 to 3 time on the asylum and arrive to firelink. I didn't read all the message so I didn't know how to sprint, something I will learn maybe 10 hours later by accident. I talked to the crestfallen warrior and decides to kill him for his equipment. I didn't think he would agro and didn't know he would be so difficult to kill. After half an hour of dying again and again and wasting all my firebombs on him he manages to kill himself by rolling of lautrec's cliff. I then go to the graveyard where I die 10 sec after walking in. Then I go to new londo. I die 10 second after walking in but this time I couldn't damage the enemy. I finally find my way to the undead burg. At this point my memory is blurred so this is what I remember. Screaming at my screen when finally beating capra and seing my mother getting in to yell at me because she thought I hurted myself. Staying stuck in the painted world for two days because of dying again and again on the skelly wheels. Finally defeating OnS after 2 weeks of attempt and, at this point, restarting a whole new character thinking I did something wrong with my stats. I deleted my profile but I'm pretty sure it was indeed a shity build. Strangely, I don't remember my first passage through sen's. Or it wasen't that bad or it was so traumatic my brain refuses to remember it.

this game really is unique (small speech ahead)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 02:19 AM PST

This game is truly unlike any other I've played. It's really just amazing how it manages to captivate you so well and perfectly blend exploration and story and gameplay into the one seamless flow. I'm on my first playthrough and I'm just about to head to anor londo, and this game is uniquely rewarding in so many ways. It rewards exploration but also careful study of your enemies and the way the world flows. You can tell real time went into designing the world, and the shortcuts are nothing short of absolute genius in the way they connect and reward the player for besting an area. Finding the blacksmith for the first time was a unique feeling, the game had been handing my ass to me for so long and I was thinking okay, I'm just going to go randomly through this place, and found the blacksmith, the turning point for me where I realised the game was far deeper than I ever anticipated.

Even the hints and summoning systems are so unique and cool that I need to mention them and give them props. The funny ones to the life-saving ones, they are just so well designed. The way the hints work in my opinion is similar to the games design, they restrict the player, e.g. only being able to choose preset options, but they simulataneously encourage creativity and experimentation. This is quite similar to the level design and how a lot of the game works imo. From "amazing chest ahead" before the queelag fight, to "be wary of amazing trap" in sens fortress, and the ever constant "illusory wall ahead"/"liar ahead", the hint system is just amazing.

This game isn't just "oh haha bullshit hard impossible game", it's actually an incredible game which is hard but absolutely fair and rewarding.

Anyway, that's my thoughts on the game so far, and the community is pretty great too, I've consistently got 15+ comments on nearly all of my questions regarding bosses etc. Speaking of which, how the fuck do you get twinkling titanite? :)

I love every piece of sound in this game

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:17 AM PST

I wanted to share my random opinion about something nobody rarely talks about: the little piece of sounds in the Souls series.Everytime I hear that GOIIIINKKK when discovering a new area, the ZWEEEP picking up items or especially that.. extremely difficult to imitate kind of sound design beating bosses, I feel something unique, hard to put into simple words: a small sense of fear, curiosity, satisfaction, everything wrapped up in a second.

I love reading your comments so feel free to expand on the subject and share your opinion !

Can Someone Help Me Transfer My Black Knight Sword?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 01:31 AM PST

Hey everyone! I've recently bought dark souls remastered after finishing the third game and I'm loving it so far. The only problem is that I managed to drop a black knight sword on my first character (first try!) and even though I planned on using it, I couldn't cause I started the game again with a different character. I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to safekeep it while I transferred it between characters?

Go through Upper Blighttown to get the Iaito I said

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:37 PM PST

Totally won't go poorly. Nope. Not going to lose the almost 25 soft humanity you'd been accumulating through co-oping on your Sunbro since essentially the beginning of the playthrough you started with this particular character.

Totally won't lose all of that just when you're on the last area you have to go through before joinging the Chaos Covenant to unlock that Izalith shortcut.

I'm irritated now. Guess I'm going to have to build all that back up again. I hate Blighttown.

Should I play coop or alone the first time?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:17 PM PST

Hey everyone. Im new to dark souls and I've gotten the remaster for the first game on the switch. I'm going in blind but I was wondering whether I should go it alone, or with my brother. I know that going alone can probably help with immersion, but coop could be more fun even without the immersion. What I wanted to know was whether I should play coop, or alone for my first time. At what point do you unlock coop? Or do you get it at the beginning? Does the story or dungeons (levels?) change? Or is it separate levels and story if you're in coop? Any level or gear caps? Any reviving or healing system? I'd appreciate if responses could be as less spoilers as possible. Thanks

Why are Some of the People in This Community Such Toxic Assholes?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 08:44 PM PST

So I'm new to souls, 3 was my first game. I beat it and the DLCs. I recently got remastered and I've been playing that. I asked a question about something in the game. Instead of getting an answer I just get called and retard. Like wtf? I did nothing to this guy, I just asked a question and he does that.

I don't know how many of you know that:

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 02:43 PM PST

If you fall in the 4 king's pit WITH THE RING and remove it as soon as you land, you die instantly with an animation of you being sucked in the abyss, after you Respawn, you will see "you've been kill r by the abys"(maybe a bit different but that the sauce)

I've played all of from's games but what would you know that there are always new things to discover in this game :)

    Master key quick start question.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 02:36 AM PST

I'm at the point where I can more or less rain man my routes like a proper veteran. I'd like to start a character and run to Quelaag and the Gargoyles for an early Lord Vessel. Do I end any NPC questlines by ringing the bells ASAP?

Does Lordran get more diverse as the game progresses?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:22 PM PST

Hey guys, I'm new to dark souls and I play it on the switch. I am on my very first playthrough and I'm absolutely loving it. Everything about this game is flawless. My only nitpick is that the Undead Burg and Parish areas all look the same. I have not gone further than the place with the fire keeper soul, blacksmith andre and the onion looking dude. I'm wondering (and hoping) if the environments start to look different and more interesting as the game progresses?

"Miyazaki apologized for Bed of Chaos"

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 08:09 PM PST

According to the common story, he said that it was put in without his knowledge.

Look I'm just going to come out and say it; Does anyone else see a huge red flag on the idea that Big M claims that the worst part of the game is the one that he had no involvement in? That sounds a little sus.

    Anor Londo

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:51 AM PST

So, Hey I am back again with another question. I'm currently standing in front of the Giant Smith in Anor Londo. I invested all my resources into the Claymore and it is +10 now. I can only find it under "modify equipment" and I'm a bit confused. I can give it lightning damage or turn it into the Greatsword of Artorias. I am building a Strength+Dex Build and I'm LvL 50.

Thank you for your quick responses and I hope you have a great day!

I MESSED UP, PLEASE TELL ME IT'S OK.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 04:44 AM PST

It all started at some place with these skeleton knights. The spot where you fight "Tarus the demon" i think. He's like a minotaur i believe. But before i got to him i saw a merchant and i forgotten i wanted to attempt to to beat the game with just the club (Worst idea for a first-timer) Soi didn't but anything. After which i got curious to see if i can hit the merchant,i couldn't lock on so i figure i couldn't kill him,but then he got up and started swinging back and to make a long story short i killed him,and I figured he'd be back as normal when i die but that wasn't the case. Now fast forward and i defeat the minotaur, you know that guy thats this subreddit icon HIM,I made a grave mistake hittin him and he chased me for awhile. And then i got burnt by the dragon. And figured since i died we should cool again but he no longer wanted to be friendly. FOR THE LOVE ALL THINGS HOLY, PLEASE TELL ME THIS WON'T AFFECT THE STORY,THAT THE BOTH HIM AND THE MERCHANT WON'T BE HOSTILE AROUND ME THE NEXT TIME WE MEET. OR IF THE MERCHANT WILL EVEN APPEAR.

TlDr; Do friendly npcs ever be friendly if you hit or even killed them the first time around? Do i subsequently make the gamee even harder?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 06:50 PM PST

My first playthrough of this game was on stream and I managed to not rage quit once. It was so hard to keep it together! I love this game. I love the community around it. I love the people I found through twitch who love it as much as me.

So should I go to Dark Souls 2 next? Or skip to 3?

Which game you think is harder - DS or Nioh ?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 10:27 PM PST

Nioh is a lot harder for me cuz it's a lot faster, and also the ki pulse mechanics is quite annoying.

Here is my very loose interpretation of the Dark Souls lore. I wrote this when I was very tired at 3 am.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2020 04:10 PM PST

This is just a theory for fun. This relies heavily on the world being unstable and constantly changing.

    Pre darksouls 1

the old gods and dragons are at war. Gwyn discovers the first flame and uses it to destroy the dragons. The undead are created. Gwyn distributes his soul to four lords. Shit goes down in oolacile. Undead asylum gets created. Years pass. Gwyn sacrifices himself to relink the flame. The chosen undead is awoken as the flame fades.

    Dark Souls 1

Thou who art undead art chosen

The chosen undead ventures into the land of lordran. They fight the lords and offer their souls to the Lord vessel. They defeat Gwyn and relink the first flame.

(Here's where my theory differs a little)

I believe that Dark Souls 2 takes place after our chosen undead from Dark Souls 1 relinks the flame. This one is not a story of relinking the flame, but rather the aftermath of the linking of the flame. The fire is not fading. This is a tale of war, lust for power, and kingdoms. We are not a chosen one. We are simply aiming to break out undead curse. We are not special.

    Pre Dark Souls 2

The fire is linked, but the world remains forever changing. Ashlake is turned into the things betwixt. Majula is built on the remnants of fire link shrine. Heides Tower is built in the ruins of Anor Londo. And so on. A little backstory on our lords. A soul is never truly gone, just repurposed.

Lost Sinner - in possession of the soul of Izaleth

Duke Frejia - in possession of the soul of Seath

The Rotten - in possession of the soul of Nito

Iron King - in possession of Gwynn's soul

The four kings soul is unknown

    Dark Souls 2

The accursed one awakens seeking to break their curse. You are told that to do this, you must seek King Vendrik, the one who has come closest to doing this task. (Events of dark souls 2 happen). You sit upon the throne of want.

Some interesting facts about this time period.

The giants that we see are a different species from a different land than we see in other games.

"The sin" is linking the fire, which would make Aldia either Gwyn or our character from Dark Souls 1.

The ancient dragon doesn't actually exist.

The talking cat in majula is the only one that knows of the events of Dark Souls 1.

It is believed that Ludleth and Wolneir are kings during this time.

    Pre Dark Souls 3

Time passes. The fire is fading. Lords of cinder are awoken with the task of relinking the flame. They fail. As the lords of cinder were awoken, few people were reincarnated. Since the world is forever changing, without a good reason, Anor Londo is back, but not all of it, you can find a lot of the ruins from darksouls 2 in the darksouls 3 dlc (this will lead to a theory that I have). You can find many ruins from structures from the other games in this one. It is thought that those who were reincarnated were those who would aid the ashen one on their journey. Siegward is in fact actually Siegmeyer. Obviously he has no memory of his past however. Andre is back.

    Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 events take place. You relink the flame, or do you?

Dark Souls 3 (the ringed city)

You are many years in the future or are you? You have defeated the soul of cinder. The flame can wait for now. The dreg heap is an interesting area. Obviously the ruins of lothric castle. But further down you also find the ruins of the Dark Souls 2 world and further yet you find the ruins of the first fire link shrine. I believe that this portion of the game actually takes place in the past, and everything is destroyed and distorted because, much like in Dark Souls 2, the world doesn't make sense, and the world is constantly changing. This could be the start to the construction of lothric castle, seeing as parts of Dark Souls 2 are still visible. You eventually make it to the end of the world where the last remaining lifeforms battle it out for the darksoul.

(I may loose people on this next one)

    Pre Bloodborne

You lost your duel with the slave knight, and he takes the blood of the dark soul for his lady's painting. In the first Dark Souls 3 dlc, there is a woman painting a picture. I believe that this is yet another painted world, but she is painting it with blood, which I believe is the bloodborne world. People are sick of the constant relinking of the flame and all this talk of souls. Blood is the new way. To exist to hunt beasts and slay the remnants of the old world. With this new universe brings new horrors. I believe that these old eldritch beings that are present in the bloodborne lore could be what happened when they tried to bring the four lords souls into the bloodborne world. They transformed into horrific beings due to the blood.

    Bloodborne

Many, many years pass. Generations have came and gone. The tale of the chosen undead and the ashen one and the relinking of the fire are now forgotten. Bloodborne events happen.

    What happens next?

Perhaps when Elden Ring releases we will have new lore that fits, or perhaps it's a new cannon all together
