So uhh, I have a confession

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:15 PM PST

I've played and beaten every single Souls game. Platinumed Bloodborne and almost Demon's Souls. But I...I never parry. Ever. It stresses me out. So I roll. I roll real good.

    Is this common?

There are so many people playing DS1 Remastered!

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 11:15 AM PST

I am wondering if I am alone in this observation, but there are a surprising number of active players for such an old game! As someone who logged 300+ hours in the original DS back in 2011, I couldn't be happier about the renaissance.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the massive sale that Xbox had a couple weeks ago. I started a new playthru when I saw that sale happen, and last night I beat Ornstein & Smough. Wandering around Anor Londo I was invaded thrice within 1 hour, and I had a choice of summons before the boss fight. I summoned some very solid mages that made the fight a breeze, and to-boot all of the invaders fought us with honor (no estus, gesturing before the bout, 1 on 1, etc).

    Feels good.

I just killed Seath...while cursed...without getting any souls in return...on my first playthrough

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:17 PM PST

I just killed Seath for the first time. I liked the music and I thought the fight was unique and pretty cool, and pretty "easy." Until mid-way through my first time fighting him, where I got cursed and died. I was told nothing about the fight other than, "you can get cursed, but you kinda have to try to get cursed in order to actually get cursed so don't worry about it." That made me the angriest. It was/is late, and I was tired after going through all of Blighttown for the second time, grinding souls to save Solaire, going through and killing all bosses in Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith (Ceaseless, Firesage, Centipede Demon, BOC), and then going through all of Duke's Archives and Crystal Cave, in ONE DAY. I said "fuck it," because I'm not gonna run all the fuckin way back to Oswald or New Londo to break my curse, so I killed Seath on the next turn on a suicide run, dying on my final blow. I didn't receive my souls, but I received the Lord Soul. I was so happy and nervous (about losing my souls) at the same time, so I went back to Oswald and got uncursed. Next, I just ran down (warped to Anor Londo and went alllll the way back through Duke's Archives and Crystal Caves), cautious as could be, and I was at those mfing clams. The last time I was here, I was able to kill them...this time they ganged up on me (for whatever reason), and they killed me. 60k souls down the fucking drain.

And I just now realized that I can just warp back to the Duke's Archives bonfire...

TL;DR: I fought Seath for the first time and got cursed (like an idiot), and instead of warping out, getting uncursed, and warping back, I just fought him cursed on a suicide run, on my first playthrough, and lost 60k souls in the process.

Is there anything you can do to ‘end’ the game?

As in... can you screw up so bad that it's impossible to ever reach Gwyn?

    Artorias

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:27 PM PST

So is it fair to say if Artorias wasn't badass crippled and could use his shield and sword against us he would beat every player character lore wise?

About "not holding the hands of the player"

    Posted: 15 Dec 2020 01:50 AM PST

I see that a lot of people praise this game for not "holding the hands" of the player. I must say that this is true, not holding the hands really gives a unique and magical feel to the game. But a lot of things that are included under the "not holding hands" are, in my opinion, absolute bullshit.

Let's be honest: the things that make dark souls magical and special are not obscure weapon upgrade mechanics, stupid statistics (why even include resistance?) with unintelligible effects, overly complicated online mechanics (I hate to admit it but ds3 did this better) , stupidly esagerated punishment for not knowing important things like how to absolve sin, who not to attack, how not to miss certain important things, how fat/fast roll works, how poise works.

Dark souls is my favorite or second favorite game, also because of not holding my hand (no minimap, no in game pause, no out-of-character directions, no difficulty settings) but some very dumb things in the game are to this day ignored by many because of Dark Souls Religion.

I mean it is very funny for experienced players, or players who read guides, to know that doing some mistakes or not doing certain things can mess you up badly, but how many newcomers have these things turned down?

Need help with skin color slider

    Posted: 15 Dec 2020 01:21 AM PST

I'm starting my first SL1 run and I want my character's skin to be neon pink (preferably pink enough so that while hollowed it doesn't look like charcoal) but I'm having a hard time with the sliders. I've looked online but there don't seem to be any guides that indicate how to create a bright pink skin color (some show blue, green and yellow but that's pretty much it). Anyone know what slider combination may help me get there?

Good area to get souls just before sens fortress?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 10:54 PM PST

I'm currently soul level 33 but I'm trying to aim for roughly level 40 or so before I actually try to take on sens fortress. If anyone knows a spot where I could easily grind out souls. The advice would be greatly appreciated

What is the best class for an easy playthrough?

My sister saw me playing Dark Souls and wants to play it. She doesn't play action games or hard games. So i want to be a good brother and make the game a bit easier for her.

Just got through the painted world of ariamis

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 02:09 PM PST

It was a challenge to make my way down to unlock the shortcut while also finding all the secrets and items but I managed to make it through. I got the black iron armor and forgot to equip it till after fighting the juggernaut of an enemy outside of Priscillas arena. I'm going to wait to fight Priscilla until new game + because i want to spare her. The armor set is going to be nice for the enough and ornstein fight though

    Just defeated Super Ornstein OMG!

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 09:56 PM PST

Cant believe I just did that. This has to be the most epic boss battle ever!!!

I defeated Super Smough which was in itself so hard but when i came to know about Super Ornstein. I just had to try with my melee build. I reverted using PS+ save to fight it and it was so worth it!

My attacks were doing only 55 damage. I just hugged his body throughout lol. So many tries and It took so long to reduce his health that I ended up not looking at his HP anymore. Although the video of the boss battle turned out to be 10min. Much shorter than i felt playing it lol.

From Software! you have my devotion forever!

What Makes Soulsborne Saga That Hard?

    Posted: 15 Dec 2020 12:31 AM PST

I've been recently seeing videos of people playing Dark Souls as i'm thinking of buying the Demon Souls Remake for PS5, so I can know what i'm getting into.

I'm new into these games, so I wanted to ask you: what do you think it's the factor that makes the Soulsborne saga hard?

    "I'm dead".

    Posted: 15 Dec 2020 12:18 AM PST

One of my most used phrases when playing this game.

The amount of times ive seen my death or known it was coming before it happened, is insane.

This game has the uncanny ability to just shit all over your mistakes. And i love it.

Ive said out loud to myself "I'm Dead" after a whiffed attack or a misread on the opponent a countless number of times. And its always almost instant. Soon as i press a button im already blurting out the words. Sometimes its greed. Some times its just a mis-timed roll. Most times its greed.

Then sometimes you get those lucky times where you should have died, but held on with a sliver of health. So then it takes a couple seconds to realize you arent dead. Once you finally do, and try to move its already too late. Then you really die. Which leads to "I'm Dead. Oh wait im alive!? Welp now im dead".

I like that you just know when you have fucked up before you actually die.

Im doing more 2handing and rolling instead of using a shield this playthrough. Been trying to be more daring. So ive been seeing my death before it happens alot.

Can I kill the grave lord?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 10:03 PM PST

So I went into the catacombs did most of the interesting stuff and then went to the tomp of giands. I was planning on joining the grave lord but since I am already here whatever I am just not gonna join any function (tried to join the hunters couldned kill the bodyguard to get the op ring). I am using a dex build with a +5 ugikatana and a +2 shield I think. I haven't beaten the dogo yet and I have the bow of paris at + something. Is there any way I can kill the grave lord with my current set up? Should I leave and come back later?

Need advice on retooling my dex build

    Posted: 15 Dec 2020 12:11 AM PST

Hey y'all, so as the title says I am in need of some build help.

tldr and stat breakdown at the bottom.

When I first created this Build, I had originally intended it to end as a fairly standard pvp dex build in the 120's. However, coming as far as I have in the game, the concept already has me bored to tears and now I want to try something a bit more spicy.

So I've retooled the character into a pseudo dex caster hybrid with special emphasis on Faith. My current end-goal stats are 40 dex, 24 strength,10 attunement, 18 int, and 30 faith—this allows me to use the Dragonslayer spear and the Abyss Greatsword with relatively decent scaling, as well as most of the other standard dex weapons with the exception of one handing Murakumo. The problem is of course is that with these modifications, the stats end up running a bit over the soul level meta, and I'm not entirely sure where I need to cut the fat so to speak.

This is the first time I've specifically created a pvp build for DS1, but I have quite a bit of experience in 3. I typically have little trouble running semi-glassy cannons, but have no idea where that line lay in this game, or if it's even feasible.

Ideally if I'm able to get away with it, I'd also like enough attunement for more than one spell.

    Tldr;

Bored of my original dex build idea, need advice on how much Vitality and Endurance I can reasonably cut to reign in new build's soul level.

    I don't think I can do this

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 07:08 PM PST

I didnt realize how to start Artorias of the Abyss DLC in my first run, and am going through it in my NG+ run. Quite possibly the worst mistake I've made. This shit is practically impossible. Literally everything kills me in just a few hits, and I can't get past Artorias without getting two shot or gettinf spam spin slammed. Think I'm just gonna pass on this DLC content

    Berserk

    Posted: 15 Dec 2020 03:39 AM PST

I had no idea that this was a thing until I seen the movie series Berserk on Netflix. You may think "what does this have anything to do with darksouls in anyway?" The answer to that my friend, everything. Fact is that I came across the series by accident, just looking for something to keep me occupied. It is a brutal anime that is dark, spiritual, supernatural and furious. After watching the movie, I started watching the 2016 season that's basically a follow up after the events in the movie. With that said I came across Episode 5 – Tower of Conviction! This episode had wheel skeletons? Wait, I know those. So I looked it up and it so happens that Hidetaka Miyazaki is a huge fan of the manga. No wonder why I was so easily sucked into the story of Guts and the Band of the Hawk. I was a fan already but now that I know Souls games are heavily influenced by berserk I consider myself a super fan eager to learn more about the story. If you haven't seen it I recommend getting into it. It makes the Darksouls series and the berserk universe feel connected. I feel like darksouls is the version of the story where guts fails and darkness consumes the world. Fantastic story. I included a link of me and my friends enjoying ds3 on my Twitter, enjoy the clip and follow me.

    Sunlight Blade on First Play-through?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 11:42 PM PST

I'm new to the game so I have a question. Is it possible to get the Sunlight Blade on your first play-through?

I used golden pine resin on my weapon (the first katana in undead burg) to defeat the Taurus Demon, and I thought "wow, this is awesome. How do I get more permanent lightning buffs?" That led me to the Sunlight Blade and looking into a dex/faith build. My starting class is Deprived btw.

Would this be a bad idea for my first play-through?
