DS2's hate bandwagon is kinda cringe

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 06:47 AM PST

First of all I respect if you don't like the game because of design choices, it's perfectly fine. But there's a big community of people who who hates DS2 for weird reasons.

Most of the excuse to hate DS2 comes from ganks, ADP and hitboxes from my experience. Which are not that bad as people say.

First thing is hitboxes. People like to complain about it a lot. But it's not always game's fault.

Whenever I watch DS2 players on YT or people who rank boss quality, boss difficulty etc. between the Souls games it's always cringe. You can clearly see that they either didn't play DS2 enough or they are bad at the game. They are noob at the game and calling DS2 bosses design fault.

    For example:

    https://youtu.be/OYwNyjdku20

This guy just posted a video about Sir Alonne's hitboxes being bad. But if you slow the video you can clearly see that he didn't even roll through the first thrust attack. He just tried to run through it and blamed the hitbox when he got hit. For the second thrust, he rolled during wind up animation and thrust hit him when his iframes expired.

If you get hit by thrusting grab attacks, game positions your character to the tip of the weapon to continue the animation and people believe that it's a hitbox fault but it's not. When you roll sideways and visually stay out of the grab area but get hit, game does reposition you to continue the animation.

It's not that if you get hit by a thrust grab when you're not in grab area, the character stops the grab. It's about animation, it visually looks bad but it's completely fair. You dodge wrong and get hit, that's why it happens.

Sir Alonne's jump attacks have really big hitboxes, I agree with that but the same goes for Artorias. His long jump attack has the same problem, I got hit many times despite being behind him. But I never saw people complaining about it, well because it's Artorias.

DS1 also has hitbox problems. Taurus Demon keeps damaging you even though you perfectly timed your dodge. Big characters have questionable hitboxes in DS1, their hitboxes don't match with their models. But I never had problem figuring out how to dodge big characters in DS2.

Same goes for AoE projectiles like flame or magic. Most flame attacks in DS1 have garbage hitboxes, it's hard to explain using words but if you compare DS2 and DS1's flame attacks you can clearly see the difference. But people only complain when it's DS2.

ADP. People complain about ADP because you need to level it up to have more iframes. While it looks bad on paper, it's not that bad when you play the game. It even has advantages over DS1 roll.

But you can finish the game perfectly fine without leveling it up. You can struggle with some bosses like Aava or Smelter Demon but it's still doable.

I finished my first DS2 run (and DS2 was my first souls game) without leveling ADP. And I also finished the game SL1.

And DS2 gives you a lot of levels early on. You can kill Pursuer and Last Giant and level ADP enough to get the amount of DS1 iframes. You can select bonfire ascetic as gift and do Dragonrider cheese twice to level up ADP early. Or you can start as Explorer which has high ADP.

Once you get around 100 Agility it's not a problem anymore. And it actually starts benefitting you.

In DS1, rolls are determined by equip load. You can fast roll until 25% load which has around 100 Agility's iframes. Then you start to mid roll which is not really playable and iframe amount is lower.

In DS2 iframes are only tied to ADP so after a few bosses, you get DS1 iframes. Equip load only effects the distance of your roll and stamina regeneration. So you can still maintain decent defense while having high amount of iframes.

In DS1 if you play a heavy weapon you usually run around naked to roll or if you wear a heavy armor you have to use a light weapon to roll.

ADP gives you build freedom. You can use an UGS, wear armor and still roll perfectly fine in DS2 because it only effects the distance and stamina regeneration (which is not a problem if you can manage it well).

People complain about DS2 rolls but out of the 3 souls game I played (Demon's Souls, DS1 and DS2) it's only game I didn't need to use a shield because roll is perfectly fine.

And ganks. There are enemies everywhere in DS2 but if you know the area and how to aggro them, you can fight enemies 1v1 most of the time. And if you know the layout you can just run past most of the areas.

And most ganks can be avoided by using the environment and your tools.

You can explode the barrels in Lost Bastille to kill enemy groups or of you are a hexer, you can burn the corpses around the map.

You can use fire arrows to shoot at the pools in Black Gulch to burn them so you can kill them from the start of the area.

You can use a torch to scare spiders in Tseldora.

You can use a magic infused Magic Shield (100% magic resistance and spell parry) and equip Yorgh's Ring to make Shrine of Amana a walk in the park.

You can use big trees in Shaded Woods to distract ghosts and many more examples like that. There are many ways to deal with areas.

And ganks also exist in every souls game.

People like to complain about bosses a lot as well. I saw many people calling DS2 bosses worse than DS1. DS1's only good bosses are Artorias, Manus, Kalameet, O&S, Gwyn and Quelaag. Others are not that memorable.

DS2 has many boring and filler bosses but game also has bosses like Fume Knight, Sir Alonne, Ivory King, Aava, Sinh, Elana, Looking Glass Knight, Lost Sinner, Pursuer, Smelter Demon, Executioner's Chariot, Ruin Sentinels etc.

People who complain about having two versions of Smelter Demon keep praising a game that has 3 Asylum Demon's and Taurus/Capra being everywhere in Demon Ruins. 11,5% of the bosses is Asylum Demon.

Before you say I hate DS1 or I am just fanboying DS2 over DS1, I played those 3 games a lot. DS1 is the only game I got platinum so I played it long enough.

All of them have flaws but DS2's hate is really weird to be honest. At this point people just hate it for not being the same as DS1. I guess they were just expecting DS1 with different areas and bosses.

Edit: All of them suck equally.

Are the DS2 SOTFS servers shut down ?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 07:43 AM PST

I am really struggling with the three sentinel bosses to the point where I'm close to having a mental breakdown, I was hoping to see if I can summon another player for help but for some reason it won't let me "Go online" via the home menu on the PS4.

    I FINALLY DID IT

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 12:01 PM PST

I DID IT! I BEAT ANCIENT DRAGON! All it took was a +10 dark rapier 30 intelligence, 20 faith, a brightbug, dark clutch ring, and finding out that the dragon bois only attack of you run away from the big bois. After I learned that the run up to ancient dragon went from impossible to easy. And thank god that the double great sword dragon guy doesn't respawn or I would not be able to make it to ancient dragon. But I finally did it, after around 3-4 attempts the big bastard is dead and I have all the bragging rights.

How far into DS2 am I?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 01:22 PM PST

I have just killed lazerbeam spider women and am wondering how far into the game I am. I am doing a semi-blind run so please no spoilers. Also, will the game get harder, easier, or stay about the same. Once more, please no spoilers. I spoiled ds1 for me and I am enjoying this run a lot.

Just started a blind play through and I had some questions about a small bit of info I already know

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 09:11 AM PST

So I'm a huge collector in these games like I have to have every armor and weapon just because that's how I like to play. I know that enemies don't respawn forever in this game so what I was gonna do is enter the covenant of champions at the end of the game and go grinding for anything I may have missed. I just wanted to make sure this is a thing I can do and nothing I do during the game would stop me

    Best Cap for Int

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 07:51 AM PST

I'm running sorceries and got myself to 50 INT/ATN. However, some enemies are able to survive 2 great heavy souls arrows with a sliver of health. Should I increase my INT a little more?

    Build Suggestions.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2020 10:24 AM PST

I've been trying to think about a build suggestion for my brother who just picked up DS2: SOTFS on Steam and I'm a little at a loss. I've put hours into DS2, but I'm no expert.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a new player with no real SoulsBourne experience?

    Thanks in advance!

My first experience as an invader.

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 10:44 PM PST

Hello everyone! I'd like to tell you how it felt to invade other players for the first time. I have to say that I have already beaten Dark Souls 1 before, but I had to play that game offline. Therefore, multiplayer aspects of Dark Souls (messages, ghosts, phantoms) felt new and bizarre to me. After defeating Ruin Sentinels, I decided to invade for the first time, and it was terrible. I was ganked into oblivion by guy and his phantom friend. Nevertheless, I tried again, and the second time I invaded a female warrior named Solaire (wonder what name means). Ironically, I have seen her white summon sign before, but instead of calling for help, I came to kill her. That battle was a blast, as I had to fight a human being in a fair battle. I got parried once, and missed quite a few times, but in the end I still prevailed. To conclude, I guess this sums up the entire invader experience: it is either the most frustrating or the most thrilling.

P.S: Best regards, Solaire. I hope you enjoyed that fight as well.
