I just got my hands on the greatsword

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:07 AM PST

I've been struggling for awhile now but I farmed the dogs in the Bastille and got 20 effigy and I got 20 life gems and I have my greatsword fully upgraded. I'm starting to really like this game.

    I beat Fume Knight!!!

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 09:41 PM PST

Just wanted to share my story since I have like no one else to tell it to...

First of all, I had been wanting to play a Dark Souls game for a long time, but always felt too intimidated. I consider myself a pretty bad gamer, so most of my life has been spent playing games on easy difficulty. I never understood how people could enjoy playing difficult games, or how they had the willpower to keep trying a boss/level after countless failed attempts. About a year ago, though, I started to challenge myself by playing games like Witcher 3 and AC Odyssey on harder modes. And recently, a friend of mine started playing Dark Souls 2. I figured if he could do it, I could too, so I decided to give it a try.

Early on, I decided to go with the mace/shield combo. Ended up sticking with that setup for practically all of the main game, besides using the Zweihander occasionally. I wanted to mix it up but the mace just did so much work, especially when fully upgraded and with a lot of points in strength. Not gonna lie, I played through the whole main game VERY defensively (and slowly), constantly with my shield up and always trying to only fight one enemy at a time. Even so, I was surprised by how easy the main game felt. My biggest difficulty was the Pursuer, who killed me 5 times, but other than that, my only other boss deaths were 1 to Old Iron King (fuck that hole in the back of the arena), 1 to Nashandra, and 3 to Aldia (again, fuck that hole in the arena, killed me all 3 times). By the end of the main game, I think I died more to falling than any area/boss. Beating the base game felt good, but I also felt kinda empty. Besides the Pursuer, no boss gave me a real challenge. Killing Smelter Demon felt good, but that was mostly cause I just found that fight super fun. Hoping for more of a challenge, I decided to try the DLC.

I chose to do the Old Iron King DLC first cause its 3 bosses seemed like they would be the most fun. Before going past the start of Brume Tower, I made a major layout change, swapping out my mace and shield to 2H the King's Ultra Greatsword. I also swapped out my Drangleic armor for just Flying Feline boots and the Lion Warrior cape. I figured if there was ever a time to git gud, this DLC was the perfect opportunity. And wow, it made a huge difference. Using a new weapon was so refreshing, and so was the shift to purely dodging rather than blocking. Took some time to get used to, but by the time I got to Fume Knight, I was a lot more comfortable.

I tried to 2H the mace for my first run just cause I was scared the swing time on the ultra greatsword would be too slow. But the mace's small range was an issue, so I switched back to the KUG. I found that I had just enough time to get off a solid R1 and still dodge his followups. By like the 3rd run, I had his first phase down pretty well, but had no answer for his second one. For the life of me I couldn't dodge his thrust attack, and it took me way too long to realize that I had to roll into his wide fire sword swing instead of away from it. His combos always had one more move than I was expecting, so that got me a lot. Oh and of course I died a couple times while trying to heal. Finally on my 7th attempt, after running out of Estus with him still at 1/3 HP, something clicked. Knowing I had no more heals, I could focus purely on dodging and attacking. Everything slowed down, and I proceeded to kill him without taking any more hits at all. I was so focused on just dodging and attacking at every ample opportunity that I didn't even realize he was 1 hit away until right before I dealt the finishing blow. I then yelled "YES!!!" loud enough for all my neighbors to hear.

In conclusion, I went from really liking this game to absolutely LOVING it! I've been gaming my whole life, and that was easily the most satisfying boss I've ever faced. Not only that, but the switch to fashion souls combined with my new preference to roll instead of block has made this game so much more fun. It's like...I finally understand what it means to git gud, and I also understand why so many people love this series so much. I can't wait to try out different weapons and outfits! And now that I beat Fume Knight, I feel like I can beat any Soulsborne game with enough time and practice. Hell, right now I feel like I could take the Nameless King!

tl;dr - used to be intimidated by Souls games, now I love them. All I had to do was simply git gud

Are daggers good as main weapons for PvE in vanilla DS2?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 12:08 PM PST

I saw in a video that daggers have great DPS, but I have kinda dismissed them for the most part. Are they actually strong or it's a troll thing?

Does anyone else get extremely demotivated when monsters stop spawning

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 12:57 AM PST

I feel as if game tells me "Okay , you sucked enough. Now let me hold you hand". I always feel miserable , because i feel as if i failed , couldn't get good enough at that particular part. Hell , after main campaign i got stuck at first dlc (Mage build...) , and when i saw that enemies stopped spawning , this combined with the extreme nerf of my build just made me quit it. Wonder if anyone else also feels bad when it happens.

And yes , i know about champion of covenants. But this doesn't solve problem "Oh , you sucked enough at this part that enemies stopped spawning? Here they are again , with increased statistics. Have fun"

    Ds2 Boss Difficulty Ranking

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 08:00 AM PST

A few days ago I beat ds2 for the first time (playing a sorceror) and thought it would be fun to rank the bosses and might as well share it with Reddit (this is based purely on how hard I found these, not how hard I think they would be in general). The number next to each boss is my death count during the boss fight. As you will see I only fought 30 bosses. I didn't beat any of the DLC bosses because they were all so magic resistant it didn't feel fun and I also didn't fight Ancient Dragon or Darklurker (I think those are all I missed). I summoned against two bosses which I'll explain as I get to them. I should also give a disclaimer that I had heard of all the bosses beforehand but didn't know much about their fights. I'll explain what I did know when it comes up. I've marked it as a spoiler because new players obviously won't know the bosses.

    30. Covetous Demon (0)
The covetous demon is here mostly by technicality because he never managed to hit me. In general this boss is a joke as a ranged character because his leap attack is very easy to dodge and none of his other attacks can hit you from a distance.

    29. Dragonrider (0)
I honestly can't remember whether Dragonrider ever hit me, but at least he theoretically could have, which is why he is above covetous demon. I fought him with the full arena, which makes him extremely easy as he doesn't have a dangerous gap closer so you can just stay away from him. I also fought this boss after the ruin sentinels, making him even more laughable.

    28. Guardian Dragon (0)
The guardian dragon hit me once and it was with my shield raised so it didn't deal much damage. Ironically the actual bossfight is the easiest guardian dragon fight by far. I didn't really have a strategy for this one, I just shot spells at him and somewhat put in an effort to dodge his fire.

    27. Last Giant (0)
The last giant hit me exactly once and almost oneshotted me. That's the only reason he ranks as more difficult than the dragon. Otherwise his attacks are super easy to dodge when you're playing as a ranged character. I guess he wouldn't pose any sort of threat if you have more than half of your max health (I'm bad at this game so I died a lot).

    26. Demon of Song (0)
Like the last giant, hit me only once and almost oneshotted me. I've ranked it higher than the giant because his attacks weren't as easy to dodge, although hitting him was still laughably easy since the few dangerous attacks it does have are only done when his weak spot isn't exposed. I was very glad that this boss was this easy though, I would have cried if I had to play through shrine of Amana any longer.

    25. Old Dragonslayer (0)
I don't remember exactly when I fought this boss, but it's definitely later than I could have. The dragon before the cathedral was way too scary. I think I fought it after the Lost Sinner, but before going into Huntsman's Copse. Had I not had a 100% block shield this fight would probably be a lot more difficult, but as it stands the dragonslayer gave plenty of opportunity to heal and attack. He did hit me a couple of times which is why he's ranked above the demon of song.

    24. Aldia, Scholar of the First Sin (0)
I was very proud to beat Aldia immediately after Nashandra, although in hindsight it really wasn't impressive at all. Even though I didn't have my most powerful spells, Aldia just has a very hard time killing you. His spells don't come after each other quickly enough to kill you in one try and they are very easy to dodge. He has high magic resistance, even when the flames are down, making this an endurance fight. As you'll learn later I'm not good at endurance fights because I have no patience whatsoever. Despite that Aldia just wasn't very threatening, earning him this spot.

    23. Giant Lord (0)
Don't worry, we're almost done with the 0 death bosses (although you might notice one specific very easy boss is still missing). The Giant Lord is here because his attacks were a bit annoying to dodge and he hit me quite a few times. That being said, he really wasn't that dangerous because he's so slow that I could just heal all the damage of. I was a bit stressed at first because at the start of the memory the game said I was on a timer, but that didn't come into play.

    22. Mytha, the Baneful Queen (0)
Here is where boss knowledge really came into play for the first time. I don't think I would have realized I could burn the windmill if I didn't know beforehand. Had I not drained the poison I don't think I would have ever beaten this boss. Without the poison this boss isn't a huge deal though. She's ranked as the most difficult boss of the 0 death bosses because she did come close to killing me a few times and didn't always leave time to heal. I was also really hyped because I thought she was a great souls (I didn't see how there could be a boss after the earthen peak, which I don't think was that weird of an assumption tbh).

    21. Prowling Magus and Congregation (2)
Okay, I know. This boss is easy. Extremely easy. In my defense, the two miracle casters very nearly oneshotted me and if I got hit by one I was pretty much guaranteed to get hit by the other. The first time I didn't know what was going on and was just trying to get an overview of the room. The second time I thought I could get a soul spear in before they hit me but no (so my second attempt took about 2 seconds). When I didn't get over enthousiastic though I beat this boss with no issue, which is why they are at this spot even though there are 1 death bosses.

    20. Royal Rat Vanguard (1)
Boss knowledge actually hurt me in this fight. First of all I hate fighting multiple enemies, so this fight is not exactly my ideal scenario. The reason boss knowledge hurt me was because I thought I knew what the real boss looked like, but I didn't, so the first time doing this fight I was running around for 10 minutes looking for the actual boss, before getting overwhelmed (I heard the boss had a mohawk and got the wrong idea). The only reason I have this boss as more difficult than PMaC is because I could realistically freak out with the infinitely respawning rats if I did this fight again.

    19. Lost Sinner (3)
This is the second most important example of death count not being the deciding factor for the entire ranking. The only reason I lost so much was because I couldn't figure out how torches work and tried to fight her in the dark. After dying about three times (I only started keeping track of death count after Smelter Demon) I decided to go to Heide's tower of flame, which I had held off because the basic enemies are so dangerous there. After going through the No-man's wharf, getting a 100% block shield and figuring out you had to use the toggle button to light a torch at a bonfire (I thought it would be an option while sitting at the bonfire) the boss was actually really easy. With 100% block the only dangerous attack is her leap, as it disengages lock on, but it's really easy to dodge. She left plenty of openings for attacks.

    18. Scorpioness Najka (1)
This boss is honestly just a disappointing Quelaag, even having the storyline of having a relative who you can only talk to with a specific ring. I only died to her because her homing soul spears caught me of guard. Had she done the attack twice in our second fight I might have lost again. Her burrow attack is also a bit tricky to dodge. Otherwise a really easy fight. Also, I know Brightstone cove Tseldora is somewhat close by which has sand, but why is there a gigantic scorpion in a forest? I can sort of believe that she would be able to go through the doors of Pharros, although she'd never actually fit, and then somehow end up in the convenient random sand pit in the shaded woods but why would she even go there in the first place? Is there a reason for this. I need answers!

    17. Duke's Dear Freya (2)
This is another boss where knowledge from internet completely saved me, although it wasn't specifically boss knowledge. Basically I couldn't believe that entire boss run had to be done every single time so I looked up if there was an easier way and that's how I found out that spiders are scared of fire. Like with Mytha, I'm not sure I would have ever beaten this boss without knowing that. That being said, she still managed to kill me twice, because the first time I didn't know what her two-head gimmick was about so I tried to stay too close and got hit. The second time I missed an i-frame dodge through her laser after running out of estus. I could have just run towards the other head of course but I'm not very smart in the middle of a boss fight. Overall I did like this boss fight, i-frame dodging through her lasers is actually pretty fun imo.

    16. Flexile Sentry (2)
Flexile Sentry is pretty easy to dodge, because of the pole in the middle of the boss room. The main difficulty in this fight comes from their high damage and me still not having a shield at this point. Because the rising water level makes you slower it can also somewhat throw of dodge timing. In general I didn't necessarily struggly with this fight, both of my deaths were when they had very little health left, but it was still a pretty intense fight. My final fight was extremely anticlimactic because somehow he got stuck behind the pole (he was just furiously running into it for some reason). Overall I think the AI in ds2 gets maybe a bit too much hate, but this kind of stuff is really embarassing.

    15. Twin Dragonriders (2)
If unlike me you don't freak out the moment there are multiple enemies this is probably a really easy boss but as it stands I did struggle with it. Once I got into the rhythm of carefully managing my dodges so I could always be ready to dodge the arrows the fight was very manageable though. I found it much easier once the ranged one dropped down actually, although I had to play very patient, which is not my forte. Something interesting to try out may be to kill the ranged one while he is still on his elevation spot, because his health is so low. During the fight I didn't actually know that though.

    14. Belfry Gargoyles (1)
I found this boss the hardest to rank, because had I tried to beat them when I first stumbled across Belfy Luna (or rather I saw someone mention it online), which was after Lost Sinner, I would absolutely have waaaaay more deaths (only 1 now because when I realized which boss it was and how I couldn't oneshotted the individual gargoyles I just noped out of Belfry Luna). However, now I beat them after getting to the throne of want for the first time (not fighting the bosses yet) which of course makes them a lot easier. I did find them somewhat stressful still though because I hate timers. The ranking for them is somewhat arbitrary but I put them here because they are more difficult than the twin dragonriders imo but I just don't have the deaths against them to justify a lower placement (closer to 1).

    13. The Rotten (3)
I still have no clue how this one ended up at 13, because its attacks are very easy to dodge. I think the reason I died so much against it is because its AOE blast is very hard to avoid and does a lot of damage and also the fire around him really limits the area. I didn't realize the first attempts that the area behind him is much bigger than the starting area. Also I just ran past all the poison statues in the Black Gulch which I was terrible at dodging so I first had to heal my poisoning (luckily I did find the second bonfire). I actually remember dying more to the rotten but my list says 3 so I'm just using that.

    12. Throne Watcher and Throne Defender (3)
Considering my dislike for gank fights you might have expected this one to be much more difficult but they're really not that much of a threat. My first death comes from just learning their moves and when to attack. In general they are very easy to avoid, easier than some single enemy bosses oddly enough. My second death comes from freaking out when one revived the other. My third death came after 15 minutes (might be an exaggeration, I didn't keep track of the time) because they kept reviving each other and I was too stubborn to lower their health at the same time. I think I managed to survive 6 revives somehow, really showing how little intent these two actually have to kill you. That being said, they were still intimidating which is why they ended up where they did.

    11. Nashandra (3)
Yes, I know. Nashandra is considered very easy in the community. First of all I want to say if I realized her damage totem thingies could be destroyed I probably would have beaten her on my second try. They look so incorporeal so I assumed they would just be a stage hazard you can't destroy. My first death was actually really funny, I noticed I was quickly losing health and just ran straight into the hole (by accident). My second death I was actually doing really well but in the end I got overwhelmed because the spot I was circle strafing around Nashandra at was too close to her totems (I'm just gonna call them totems) so every time I would avoid her attacks I just lost too much health and I didn't really get to attack her. My third death was about 5 seconds after entering the arena because I got stuck in her upwards laser and got oneshotted. My actual victory was super easy though, she just stood in the middle of the room until she had almost no health left and by the time she reached me it took one great heavy soul arrow to kill her. She never even got to summoning her second round of totems.

    10. Looking Glass Knight (4)
Oh Dark Souls, why did you have to turn this extremely cool boss into a really stupid gank fight. I was really enjoying this boss and having fun dodging his attacks when he started to summon. I just really don't like gank fights, so my deaths were really more because I was so disappointed than anything else. In the end I beat the knight because I realized I should just save my soul spears for the NPC summon, which made the boss quite doable. On my victory he just barely managed to summon the NPC a second time but I killed the Knight before the NPC ever managed to do anything. Overall a very interesting boss but just disappointing that they had to ruin it like that.

    9. Executioner's Chariot (5)
The Chariot is a lot like the Gargoyles, because I fought both when I first came across them and then came back later. The difference is that I tried the chariot several times throughout my playthrough, because I thought it was a super interesting boss and wanted to beat it. I didn't figure out how the skeletons spawned (I understood the necromancer mechanic but didn't know where the skeletons started spawning for the first time) which made the boss fight really tricky. I think I kinda defeated myself with this boss because I was too stuck with the idea that this boss was too difficult for my level and didn't pay attention that well to its exact mechanics. It's mainly here because early on in the playthrough getting hit by the chariot spike was an insta kill and the skeletons sometimes staggered me so I couldn't dodge. The horse part was really easy though, helped by the fact that I had already fought a tankier version in Drangleic Castle.

    8. Royal Rat Authority (7)
First of all, best runback of any boss in the series so far (I've also played DS1). That is the only reason why I beat it tbh because the fight itself isn't very enjoyable. 6 of the 7 deaths were because I didn't kill the small rats fast enough, only one of my deaths was to the actual authority. I'm not sure this boss deserves to be here, but I didn't really know what else to do with it.

    7. Velstadt (4)
Okay, so Velstadt would be really easy if I didn't have extremely little health, pretty much no armor because everything I had was too heavy, and a complete lack of respect for him. Basically I tended to get too cocky so Velstadt would kill me. I could just barely survive one attack, but there was always one attack that got me (I forgot which one it was though, oops. Those big weapon wielding somewhat tall heavy armored dudes are just too similar I can't remember every single individual melee attack they have). Also the runback is annoying, which is probably why it feels to me like I had more deaths against him than I did.

    6. (Red) Smelter Demon (7? 8?)
Honestly the hardest part of the Smelter Demon fight is the runback. I got to it once and then just died a lot of times to the enemies. My mentality was just kinda let's get all these bastards to despawn, so I could probably have died a lot fewer times, but here we are. That being said this is an awesome boss and I really enjoyed fighting it. It's a very fair fight imo and the only attack I don't like is the AOE blast (I'm not really a fan of those in general it just takes away the momentum of the fight imo). I don't think I would have enjoyed the fight if I were a melee player though, I've heard about taking passive damage from being near him which doesn't sound like something I'd enjoy. Regardless though, the fight was a decent challenge which is why it's at number 6.

    5. King Vendrick (7)
First of all the only reason I have so many deaths against this boss is because I have no patience and this fight is sooooo long. I also only had 4 giant souls because I didn't want to fight ancient dragon for multiple reasons. Vendrick's attacks are really easy to dodge, but because my prefered method of avoiding attacks is just walking to their ass the fight had a habit of slowly moving towards the edge of the arena. When at the edge his ass was no firmly pressed against a wall so I had to lure him back to the centre. That's where inevitable death happened because I'm terrible at dodging his sprint attack which could be a oneshotted combo if he decided to follow up. Basically I had two Vendrick fights, make it until the final 5% of his health bar and get killed or get killed half a minute into the fight, there was no in between.

    4. Old Iron King (9)
Okay so I'm a hard learner so it takes me a few deaths to get used to one particular attack. In the case of the old iron king what really threw me off was his unpredictable follow ups. Whenever he didn't follow up on his attack I would get too ballsy with going for an attack and of course that's when he does the follow up and oneshots me (I'm not kidding, 7 of my deaths were a follow up, 1 was falling into lava and 1 was his attack where he slams down once and causes the floor to erupt in fire). I did enjoy this fight though, it feels so epic and they absolutely nailed the visual design of the king. I think this fight gets a lot of hate which is undeserved imo. In general I'm really impressed with the visual design of this game, there are many locations that absolutely wowed me with how they looked.

    3. Pursuer (? at least 12)
Like I said earlier, I only kept track of my death count somewhere in the iron keep so I don't know exactly how many times I died to this bastard but it's somewhere around 12, I'm guessing 13 because I beat him just barely after the final enemy before his arena despawned permanently. This boss was just annoying because he oneshotted me (I didn't understand you had to consume effigies instead of burning them to regain max health) and while his attacks are fairly easy to dodge, doing it for the entire time it takes to kill him, which is quite a while because sorcery is pitiful at the start of ds2, is really difficult. Remember that I couldn't use a shield so I had to dodge perfectly. I do think I would beat him pretty easily now though, but this ranking is based on how much difficulty I had with him the first time around.

    2. Skeleton Lords (1)
I do think it's kinda funny to have a 1 death boss at number 2 after a boss with 12 deaths. Skeleton Lords is here by technicality because I summoned a real player. Once I realized just how many skeletons I would have to deal with at the same time I just decided I didn't want to bother. In hindsight I could have probably beaten them within a reasonable amount of tries but I really didn't think I would enjoy trying so I prioritized my own enjoyment over feeling the minimal amount of satisfaction after beating a stupid boss.

    1. Ruin Sentinels (? I'd say at least 20)
If you've been paying attention you knew this was going to be number 1. Even though I summoned, this boss was absolute torture. Honestly the NPC summon for this fight is pretty useless if you can't draw aggro of the sentinels (remember, I had no health at all and also no armor and also no shield). The NPC is just an idiot, they would fall off the balcony and then if I didn't drop down to help her (causing all the sentinels to enter the room) she would die and I would make the fight harder than if I went by myself. In the end I had the NPC summon and a real player and together we managed to beat the boss. Ironically this is the boss I beat the most, because the only way to farm effigies was to help other players beat it. When you have a melee character drawing aggro and a sorceror to deal damage they are pretty easy actually. That being said this was easily the hardest fight in the game for me (remember this was my third boss fight in the game).

Overall I didn't think the bosses in this game were harder than the ones in ds1. Although the hard bosses were still mostly in the first half of the game they did manage to keep their difficulty up better than in ds1 where most of the bosses after O&S are really easy and I actually found Nashandra harder than Gwynn (I never died to Gwynn over three playthroughs).

    Bonus ranking:
Ranking the bosses I fought but never beat:
    5. Aeva, the King's Pet (has high health and high offensive but would probably be doable if I tried a lot)
    4. Fume Knight (is decently dodgeable and leaves room for healing, a difficult endurance fight)
    3. Blue Smelter Demon (Would take a year to kill, has way too much magic resistance. I could have probably beaten it if I respecced into faith or something but I wanted to stick to my actual character
    2. Gank Squad (What even is this boss fight, who thought this would be a good idea)
    1. Jester Thomas (I know this isn't a boss fight but NPC fights in this game are imo harder than boss fights and Jester Thomas is the worst, he has infinite spell casts it seems, more health than Vendrick and can't be backstabbed)

I hope my English was decent I'm not a native speaker. Also I'll be very surprised if anyone reads this in its entirety

Dual Weilding Greatswords Less damage than two hamding in boss fights?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 09:08 AM PST

I'm dual weilding (power stance) a fire and lighting greatsword. Ive tried to fight the ancient dragon and lord vendrick and on both I do about 350 damage with my light dual weild attack but when I switch to holding one with two hands my attack then goes up to about 500. I do not get this because I thought i was supposed to be doing more damage which is the case sometimes but it seems like this isnt the case with some bosses.

I loved it and my only complaint was that they don't let you lock on to Nashandra curse balls

What would you say is the easiest route to dark lurker through the summoned dark world?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 10:03 AM PST

What I mean is when you give Grahndal a humanity he takes you to the places where you have to light the torch. I've always done the forest one, but I know I'm gonna die endlessly to darklurker on ng+4, just want the easiest route to darklurker...

Over 100 hours in this game, and still I find new ways to die.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 01:40 PM PST

So after 100+ hours in DS2:SotFS and traversing Iron Keep a number of times, I did not know this could happen in the area with the platforms above the lava.

As shown, I was pretty shocked by the fact that the platform's chains could break.

What are some of your more shocking deaths at the hands of the DS2's environments?

    I've come so far!!

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 03:05 AM PST

Dark Souls 2 has been really really difficult. When I started, I couldn't figure out where to go, I couldn't adapt to the mechanics, the armor was difficult to manage, and the weapons never felt comfortable. I was completely indecisive about what I should level up and after starting with the tower of Heide, I was losing my mind in frustration after dozens of runs to the little guys.

But now, I have been doing REALLY well! I've been on a hot streak in DS2 and I've found a comfortable balance within the game. I've even used my first bonfire ascetic to farm a boss for souls. For most of the milestones I've made in game, big or small, I have saved it as a video clip on ps4. It makes me feel proud to see my progress, and it gets me excited to see the difference between me at the beginning, to me being able to take down bosses without panicking, without dying after mistiming a heal and not throwing myself off of the map in a panic. If anybody wants to see my progress I put it up on YouTube on my channel. Also, if you do watch the videos let me know any weapons or gear you can recommend. I started with dual wield Swords but switched to heavy armor and a big shield. If there is any dual wield build anyone knows please, let me know. Chris Assassin at YouTube.

    My Ds2 mod dream idea

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 09:57 AM PST

I would absolutely LOVE to see a bossfight in a Ds2 mod where the fight with the mirror knight summons another mirror knight. Maybe with the time between summons slowly decreasing every iteration (nothing too crazy)

It's like turtles all the way down. Only it wants to kill you!

Help with a build for a beginner?

    Posted: 09 Dec 2020 11:54 PM PST

Hey everyone, so for some context, I have never ever played a souls or soulslike game in my life despite being someone who has played video games all my life. With the ps4 price of $10 though, I felt as though it was criminal not to purchase DS2 (and Bloodborne for $13!!!). I'm enjoying my time immensely as a Knight, and just unlocked the bonfire around McDuff in the Lost Bastille. Subsequently, this now has me thinking a lot more about how I use my souls. The inspiration for how I've been spending my souls up until this point is I looked at some basic guides which essentially went "meet weapon requirements, get VIG and END to 20, Agility to 99, then spend on either vig or weapon scaling". I've met all those requirements and sank 4 more points into VIG. As levels get more and more expensive, however, I want to be cognisant of the fact that I might want to start putting souls towards INT or FTH, or maybe STR and DEX in the name of an impressive build as the levels begin to get harder and harder and I find myself needing health less and less (for the time being). For reference, I've been using the Heide Knight's Sword +2 and the buckler for parrying, which I'm pretty good at, though I've become more and more fond of just rolling. I'm honestly super indecisive and would like to hear multiple opinions on this since I don't know what the fuck I'm doing. Is the dual-wield blue flame build feasible in NG? Should I use a magic mace build, a stone ring rapier build, or stick with the Heide Knight Sword? Should I just fuck off and play the game on my own? Please help me out!!

SOTFS: Why does the Forest of the Fallen Giants > Lost Bastile lead to a dead end?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 07:07 AM PST

So you start the game, go to Heide's Tower, see big guys and don't have a strike weapon so you think you're in the wrong place like the Cemetary in Dark Souls so you head backwards and head back to the forest of the fallen giants and think you're progressing but the game throws you to a dead end at the Lost Bastile because you won't have a Fragrant Branch of Yore unless you farm it and playing Dark Souls tells you its probably not time to buy one like you did for Andre.

Also, why doesn't anyone complain about the Ruin Sentinels getting a free hit on you the moment you enter the fog door? There's no way you could've known that there was a guy on your left the first time you went through it but everyone complains about the Capra Demon.
