But i was sad because he was such a good boi, and also (i'm no scholar on the lore, but to my understanding) he has a close relationship with artorias who happens to be my favorite character.

But the point is yay i win

On NG+ but have 4 Souls of Sif?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 03:46 AM PST

Just trying to figure out how exactly this is possible. Recently started my NG+ run and I am attempting to get the remaining achievements on Steam. I defeated Sif recently (rushed Four Kings so I could join Darkwraith right off the bat) and noticed that I had 4 Souls of Sif in my inventory. How is this even possible?

The only explanation I can think of is at some point I summoned help for a boss or was summoned to help and the other player just dropped two of them. I have no idea why someone would do so, nor do I even remember this happening. I also have no knowledge of duplicating items, but is it easy enough to do by mistake? Just trying to figure this out.

Another question while I'm at it: I have the Soul of Ornstein, does that mean I killed him last in my NG cycle? So this time I need to beat Smough last? Or do I have it the other way around?

    Thanks!

    New Guy

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 10:40 AM PST

So I've been trying to get into this series forever, and still haven't really been able to. But now, I've come to a point where I just wanna force it. Only issue is I'm not usually great at most video games. I love them but I struggle to master things everyone else gets. I usually put down hard games like dark souls because I get too frustrated. Does anyone have any tips on how to get super into it and stop caring about how hard it is? Thanks in advance

Theory: The cycle didn't start with the 4 gods of Lordran. There was an age of fire before the so called age of ancients

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:26 PM PST

In the age of ancients, there was no first flame, so you can say that it is the age of dark. The so-called "everlasting dragons" are just creatures that were created from the darkness and thrived in it and the flame was born from the embers of lords past, so Gwyn isn't the first ever Lord of Cinder.

Something else must've started the cycle and it is definately not the lords or the humans. The most logical option here is the Sun. The Sun is the source of all life, heat, cold, light and dark, so I think that the Sun and the First Flame are one in the same (Gwyn can't be called lord of sunlight without a reason).

The Sun might be sentient and is the true lord of light and dark, life and death and not the 4 lords, who just obtained a fraction of the powers of this entity. The Sun with all the stars is a part (which can function independently) of the dark souls version of God

With the Sun, starts the cycle and the sunlight manifested itself into the first flame (Something like Prometheus when he gave the flames to humanity) In the first ever age of fire, the first signs of life came to be, the first ever civilization and the first great lords.

The fading of the flame means that the world is in a period of transition. All architecture turns to ash, all life dies, all memory is lost, only the weak echoes of the lords remain.

I also do not think that Gwyn commited the first sin, but he indeed is among the ones who corrupted the flame by mistake. I think that Aldia is talking about THE FIRST EVER LORD OF LIGHT in the very first age of fire who became Cinder And from that age of fire came thousands of other ages of fire and dark/ancients.

Do I start with Dark Souls or Bloodborne?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:38 PM PST

I have never played a soulsborne game in my life and I have been wanting to try one for some time. What is the best Souls game to start off with, Dark Souls or Bloodborne??

(Spoilers) After playing for 2-3 hours in Sen's Fortress yesterday, I sat today and completed Sen's and killed Iron Golem on 3rd try, after that I got 40000 souls and I thought to go back and Level Up incase I lose those souls, but the exit was closed, and I had to fly to Anor Londo.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:09 AM PST

But there was a large knight standing just below, and I thought today I am going to lose these souls. But the knight let me pass and another 2 knight similar to him also let me pass, and there was a Bonfine in a left room. I was really worried before and pretty satisfied after finding that Bonfire. That is what I think this game do best.

    Change of character

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 08:21 PM PST

Ok hear me out. So like there is conversation between hollows, gods, and demons. So what if say a Capra demon had decided around the time that the hollow started his adventure or maybe even before and had taken the path to the capitol of the world at the time to see the world past the demon one. On his journey he passed by the chosen undead (of during the same time) or maybe not. But anyway he continued his journey to see the capitol of Lordran so many claimed to be shining in luxury and glamour from the books of history. On his way he met with say Gwyndolin No not by killing the princess of sunlight Gwynevere but instead walking to the hidden bonfire and there for a few nights. Now obviously this Capra demon wouldn't be at first welcomed by the husks lurking there guarding the castle so he's going to have to fight to survive while there. But he has no ill intentions to them and Gwyndolin sees this and so watches over him while he rests by Gwyndolin's chambers. One night Gwyndolin whispers to him while he sleeps telling him about secrets of this castle. Each night telling him more and more of what led to the place being the way it is when he arrived. As each night passes the illusionary wall blocking others from seeing Gwyndolin fades and our traveling Capra sees him for the first time neither feeling hate or disgust just wonder and curiosity. The two talk about the history of their two lands and the viewpoints of the two different worlds. As they are talking the Capra demon mentions the large painting in the building next to castle and in return Gwyndolin tells him it's the residence of a being long since hidden away by Gwynn. While telling the Capra demon this story he mentions the way for which one may enter this painting and leave safely. After hearing this the Capra demon listens to the whole story and wished Gwyndolin a good nights rest for the Capra demon is tired from the energy spent fighting earlier and the conversation they had. When he wakes up in the morning he goes to the painting and passes through safely. He travels through the painted world finally meeting Priscilla. At first she tells him to leave as he is not meant for the painted world. He instead offers to leave under two conditions, 1. That he may visit her again and 2. He may talk to her about the history of the painted world and other things related to her. After she agrees he wishes her goodbye and returns to the real world making his way to his usual place of rest. Upon arrival he talks to Gwyndolin about what he saw and tells him that he will visit her again tomorrow. As so he falls asleep and wakes the next morning. He travels to the painted world again and this becomes his routine. Over time he grows a bond with Priscilla and Gwyndolin as well as sharing ideas between the two growing his knowledge of the capitol and the people who are still sane in it. Weeks pass and he finally decides it is time for him to depart and continue his travels to further deepen his understanding of the world beyond the demons world. He says goodbye to both Priscilla and Gwyndolin both giving them a gift of goodbye and thanks for the wisdom they had granted him. He lays the doll back where he found it and leaves towards the archives. At first he's worried about the magic created there for it is far different from the pyromancies he is aquatinted to. But upon the arrival he sees that there seems to be very few people present and mostly creatures created by magic rather than by purely soul or flesh. They do not harm them for Seath at that time hadn't fully seen him as a threat for he had the aura of wonder just as Seath had in his youth. So Seath met with our Capra and they talked for days on end about the wonders the Capra had seen and the vast knowledge Seath had on the history of the area. Seath did not fear him for he saw that the Capra only cared for history and culture not power of spells or interest of eternal life. So when the two had finished their conversation Seath asked him one question. What is it you truly desire to see in this world? And to that response the Capra simple said "something different from the world I was born into". As the Capra was leaving Seath mentioned that another Dragon one that is still sane lives by the shores of the Ashen lake which is at the bottom of the Great tree of the Swamps before the entrance to your lands. To this the Capra responded with a smile and a thank you and went on his way. Now traveling to the Swamp he noticed the the creatures didn't recognize his demon blood and attacked him. Surprised by this the Capra demon noted it to remember for later. Upon arriving to the great tree he searched the bark of the tree trying to find a way through. He spent days searching and pondering until one he noticed a crevice in one of the walls and so he pried the wall open and saw the inside of the tree. To him the tree reminded him of his Queen and so he left an offering of his kind at the entrance of this inner sanctum. He than took his travels down to the depths of the tree finally arriving at the sands of the Ashen Lake. He rested that night against the tree and in the morning he wandered the path of sand glancing in awe at the scene of sea and blue before him. He saw a creature about the size of the Queens son Ceaseless swimming through the waters. The size alone made him wary so he traveled hastily to finally arrive before the everlasting dragon. Here he set up camp outside its shrine and entered. At first he tried to speak the tongue of dragon to see if it understood the language of man or demon. To this there was no response and so he sat there not knowing much of the Dragon language thinking. He thought and thought for days finally hearing a voice in the human tongue. He looked behind him thinking someone had arrived to pass offering to this dragon hoping they knew how to talk with the great entity. But instead it was the dragon itself talking to the Capra demon asking why it had made the journey here. The Capra said that he wanted to know the history of the world and so he sought one who lived through the history. The great dragon told him of the time before the rule of gods and how it had risen and fallen, how the age of gods twisted and turned the world into the way of it now. This went on for a week all while the Capra sat there perplexed at this history neither eating nor feeling the need to eat. When the week was over the Capra had learned the history of this area and thanked the great dragon. He asked the dragon for a place to seek next in order to learn more. The dragon sent him in the direction of the world outside of the kingdom of Lordran to the places that the other gods and humans had inhabited. But before he left the dragon told him to seek the guidance of the snake of human kind. So the Capra set of to find this snake lingering within Lordran and set his eyes on New Londo for that had been the only place he hadn't traveled yet. So setting off he made his way to the flooded city and being the creature not of human flesh he did not draw the spirits towards him allowing for him to lower the gates preventing him from traveling to the abyss. At first he couldn't stand properly on the abyss feeling like he fell for ages until finally falling upon the body of a serpent. Who in return woke up from a sleep he was having and wondered what curious creature had found it's way to his resting place. The serpent upon seeing a Capra here in the abyss was shocked and curious as to what the Capra was doing here. To keep the Capra calm the serpent started a conversation simply asking who the Capra was and why he was here. To which the Capra responded with I am a Capra who seeks history and was sent here at the guidance of the everlasting dragon. The serpent chuckled at this since the dragon usually kept to himself and barely every getting involved with mortals affairs. The serpent looked at the Capra and asked what history the Capra sought. "All" said the Capra, "from human, to god, to the history of this abyss". The Capra now being in the abyss was curious of this places history before wanting to find out the history that laid outside of Lordran. So the two talked over the history of the abyss and how it had swallowed the souls of many great souls and had guided many others to both power and demise. At the end of their conversation the Capra asked the serpent how to travel outside of Lordran safely. The serpent asked for the Capra's sword and hand; he made the marking of the abyss on both and told the Capra "this mark is the mark of mine followers and keepers, to the faithful they will accept you and to the countries they will offer you protection". So the Capra demon thanked the serpent and asked for one more favor, to be taken back up to the top. Once the Capra demon had exited New Londo he went to the hub he had noticed when traveling from the Ashen Lake to New Londo. He snuck around and up a wall finding the nest of a crow to which he thought of a way to use the crow to travel on. He set up camp and waited for the crow to arrive. Many days later it arrived with a packet in its claws, hidden but noticed. He saw this as his chance and waited for the package to be dropped off and hopped on the crow....

(from here he went on travels and so on. Just thought this type of story would be a cool one to think about since we only ever see the humans or close to human characters be life like. Whereas Capra demons, painted guardians, etc are always seen as automatically hollowed or corrupted by some outside force making them no longer communicable. So anyway obviously I'm not a top notch writer so you may have gotten lost while reading sorry about that. But I hope you enjoyed at least my idea on a cool story that rarely gets talked about since we always wonder what would happen if the Chosen could talk, or if we didn't kill the monsters instead of what if one of the monsters met the people we meet as the chosen and maybe even more due to them being a monster not a hollowed. Lastly thank you again if yoy read it this far)

For Souls vets, how does Demon's Souls compare to Dark Souls?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:50 PM PST

I've never played any Souls game, but I've gotten the platinum on Bloodborne and I'm almost through my first playthrough of Sekiro. Fell in love with Fromsoft games lately and was playing to play them all.

I was going to get the three Souls games but was waiting for digital sales (ps4), and now that the ps5 and Demon's Souls remake are almost here, I've been wondering.

How does the gameplay in Demon's compare to Dark? Did Dark Souls make a lot of core gameplay improvements? Will Demon's feel dated even with updated graphics?

In all your vets opinions, disregard graphics for a moment and consider these topics I'm curious about for comparison:

    • Boss fights (design, balance, challenge)

    • Locales

    • World connectivity

    • Weapons variety and balance

    • Overall gameplay mechanics

Do you think Demon's Souls holds up mechanically to the rest of From's games?

    Dex build

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 06:37 PM PST

I'm not new to dark souls , I've played through ds1 up to ng11. But I've always gone with a knight strength build or a glass cannon mage.

For the life of me I just don't get very fare when I try out a dex build. I've tried thief dex build but when it comes to bosses I feel like I rely on resins too much.
