Im no longer a Dark Souls virgin.

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 04:55 AM PDT

I played ds2 on 360 4 years ago, but I was a stupid child and never left the Forest Of Fallen Giants, because I didn't know where to go, but now on ps4 I finally killed Nashandra (and it was quite easy) and beat dark souls 2.

    Uff.. Sir Alonne

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 11:45 PM PDT

Give the strongest man a shield, and he will PROBABLY become too INDECISIVE. What's the matter, and why Sir Alonne? Well, I've always been one of them who play safe in DS games, with the shield always high. Until I approached the DLCs of DS2 for the first time. Raime and Alonne are not even so difficult, they are just there to teach you how you should fight, shieldless. Fume Knight is the first boss that I beat only relying on my ability to dodge. After him I got stuck again in the shield mentality and Alonne brutalized me, because my stamina was never enough to defend and attack. After dying 20-30 times I finally decided to eliminate the shield, two-hand a zweihander and killed him at the third try. May the dark lord kill me if I fight again another boss with the shield.

EDIT : I cut and edited several parts of the original post because my words have been misunderstood. And that's my fault of course. I was so happy after beating the boss that just wrote here without thinking and eventually hurt some of you.

No, of course playing with the shield is not wrong, and as I agreed with some users, there are points where the shield is literally necessary. However, I still embrace the overall idea that sometimes trying without is better. Personally, and I repeat, PERSONALLY, using the shield makes me less attentive and less resolute. Sometimes you should just put aside the shield and run against the enemy. Also, in my experience, I assume that From with this game started developing their idea of a more frenetic game. There's no universal shield, every shield has its own weak and strong points and often you'll still receive a certain amount of damage. I interpreted this as an invite to try without, and just dodge. In practice I see BB and Sekito as the ultimate realization of this initial idea That's all. Sorry again for the issue.

    I love this game!

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:10 PM PDT

Just finished the game, all bonfires, all DLCs, all bosses afaik. I originally played some of it back in 2016, in the run up to DS3 (after completing DS1). And I just couldn't get into it. Then DS3 released before I finished, so I jumped ship; after some 25-30 hrs.

But it's now 2020, and I'm playing through the series again for the first time since 2016! I've chosen a specific playstyle for all 3 games (Cleric start, Strike-damage only, no shields, no parry, mid-rolling with heavy armour, with only Heal miracles). The start was rocky, but where DS1 nosedived after O&S, this game was consistently good throughout! Thanks to my build, things I heard were terrible just weren't bad, and even enjoyed a lot (horses in Outskirts, Fume Knight, Ancient Dragon, etc).

The game has some great characters and bosses, overall I prefer almost every location in DS2 over DS1. With many of the areas striking the balance of challenging, but not making me go "Ugh, I hate this..." like was common for me with areas in DS1.

So now, having played DS1 and DS2... I can definitely say I prefer DS2 over DS1! This is a great game, that people just don't give the opportunity to show itself. But, I guess you guys realise that, given you're here in this sub!

Now, I'll be moving on to finish the trilogy with DS3, whose DLC I'd also never played. Don't give up, skeleton!

I Can't Start New Game Plus

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:20 PM PDT

I tried Googling the solution, couldn't find any information. I beat the base game on NG and had the option to go to Drangleic 2 at the Far Fire in Majula.

I did several bonfire ascetics and completed the DLC. I came back, and there is no option to go to Drangleic 2, now.

Here's the bonfires I ascetic'd: All three shaded woods bonfires and then undead purgatory. Lost Sinner's rise. The last Iron Keep bonfire. Both black gulch fires. The third shaded woods bonfire before the scorpion queen. The third brightstone cove bonfire before our dear Freya. The majula bonfire itself is ascetic'd. The grand cathedral bonfire before Ivory King.

That covers all the ascetics I did. I didn't lose any key items, I can still hover around the empty throne of want without any options or bosses. The credits have came and went.

I don't know what to do. Please help.

    Thank you.

Why can’t I use any fucking weapons except my base sword..?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 03:16 PM PDT

This games stat system is too fucking confusing. Every time I find a new weapon it never lets me use it cause of my current stats. It doesn't tell me what stats I'm lacking in.

I don't remember having this problem as much in DS1. Losing all hope of completing this gams because of this

    I finally love this game

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 10:42 PM PDT

TLDR- I used to hate ds2 and now I love it

Before I had started this game I had heard lots of bad things, Estus was gutted, combat was bad, bosses were lazy, etc. And on my first play though I accidentally joined the covenant of champions, not realizing what it was. So I started playing the game and thinking, "Man this is some serious bullshit. But that wasn't my biggest mistake about in my first playthrough, my first and biggest mistake was never giving it a chance. When I started this game I went in with the mentality of, "Alright let's get this over with". So I played the game without stopping to appreciate what it was. I was just in a rush to get to play dark souls 3 so I just saw this game as filler, like playing it would be some terrible task that keeping me from doing what I want to do. And when I went on this subreddit for the first time I noticed that a lot of people love this game. At first I disregarded it, thought to myself, "They're weird, anyways." But after a while... I started to want that. To love this game, enjoy as I was meant to. But for a long while, every attempt ended in failure. But once I fought the Fume Knight... something changed. It had happened. I finally had a moment in dark souls 2 that I could think about and go, "That was awesome", so I started to play more. I even started another playthrough. I'm still working on that play through and currently I'm trying to rally the loyce knights to help me face the burnt ivory king, trying to best the slumbering dragon, and attempting to defeat vendrick. It's odd, finally loving dark souls 2. A game that I dreaded to play, that I hated. I still haven't beat Fume Knight, I haven't beat Vendrick, I haven't beat Sinh . But the drive remains. I finally love this game. And I couldn't be more happy

Finally going hollow because of Darklurker

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 07:24 AM PDT

Not that anybody gives a shit but I have nobody else irl I can vent to/express my frustration.

I posted yesterday that I couldn't beat her. Got plenty of helpful responses.

Well, I re-specced to pyro to "cheese" it. Farmed the Dark set and upgraded it. Ended up with ~500 passive dark and 800 passive fire resist. Rebel's Greatshield with 100% dark reduction.

None of it matters. I didn't even get close. I get ganked by double fireball or fireball+dark portal each time.

I tried to Chaos Storm when he splits but the beginning of his split animation looks like the AOE explosion so I have to wait, and by the time I cast it both of them have moved farthee away.

60 effigies gone and I don't plan to farm more. And yes I've purchased all the available ones from vendors.

I guess I just suck, I see other people saying this fight was a "joke" and easier than the DLC.

Oh well, this whole covenant level-up and effigy toilet flush was an extreme annoyance in the first place. Onto DS3 I guess. Good riddance.

Edit: I can't let myself quit. God damn. Might take a few days off though.

Recommendation for bonfire ascetics or NG+?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 12:02 PM PDT

Hi all, I'm currently finishing up the DLCs. This is my first time with DS2 (having played DS1/3 and Bloodborne). I'm curious if you think I should go to NG+ or do some ascetics?

    I'm level 169, FWIW.

How important are the starter classes? (I'm new)

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 11:39 AM PDT

I'm just starting the game and idk which class to choose, is there any major difference?
I've seen some videos of cool builds that I'd like to use or make something similar.
I've seen charas that can infuse their swords with lightnings and also throw lightnings, they also can heal a lot since they are fragile, how can I build something like that? It's like a paladin? Do I need to start with a special class for that?
    I'd appreciate the help

Any tips for Executioner's Chariot boss as a Sorcerer with no Shield?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 03:25 PM PDT

I keep getting rekt by skeletons when i try to hide. O can't use my fire longsword because it moves me away from the gap and my sorcer staff is too slow to get ahead of those skellies.

    Dragonrider bullying experience

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 05:30 AM PDT

You haven't played dark souls until you parry lock the dragon rider and bully him to death with your friend. It feels like the times when you got killed by him never happened.

I can honestly see the fear in his eyes as I pass the fog, and I can hear Golden Wind play in the background

    AR at high level

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 02:20 PM PDT

I'm currently at level 200 circa (40/40 str/dex, 20/20 inf/fht) and I realized that even with S scailing, some weapons don't surpass the 300/400 AR. Is that some way to increase the ar at high level? Maybe with infusions?

Does anyone else feel that greatswords are weak in this game?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 07:57 AM PDT

I've played this game for years, and everytime I try using a greatsword it just doesn't seem to do much more damage than a straight sword and ultra great swords are just leagues away. Anyone really like this weapon class?

are there any private servers that disregard soul memory?

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 01:25 PM PDT

me and a couple of friends recently started back up DS2, but are remembering how much of a pain soul memory is. its so difficult to keep 3 people on the same page who want to play the game both solo in their spare time or together when everyone is on. i dont really care about missing out on a ton of multiplayer, i just want to play with my friends without keeping tabs on our soul memory.

    Well it's about time

    Posted: 27 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT

Sit around the bonfire and rest were gonna start a very embarrassing story the first time I played this game it isn't how you'd hope when I first played I was 5 or 6 and redbox was still around and my dad got it (I was originally wanting outsiders 2 ya know playing as death) and my dad got dark souls 2 by accident and I couldn't get past the first area I fell to death as any 5 or 6 year old would died by the first enemies and gave up (I was an inpatient/somewhat patient kid I just don't know the rest I'm not good with memory based stuff) and my dad just took it back after the weekend I had it and about 1 week ago I got it permanently this time and played dark souls 2 again and now I've beaten almost all bosses besides the poison dragon throne watchers ivory king and one other dlc so I'm happy with how far I've come
