I did it!!! I finished the game!!! :D

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 05:58 PM PDT

It took me 10+ days of slowly making my way through my very first Dark Souls game (PS4 Dark Souls Remasted) but I finally managed to finish it earlier tonight!!! :D

It was hard but OMFG is that game awesome and SO worth it when you beat a boss! I'm now hooked not only to this series but I'm also making a list of all the others I will need to play too (Bloodborne, The Surge, Sekiro, etc).

Dark Souls Remastered is now up there in my top games I played in my life, seriously fucking awesome and worth every penny! :D

    Pinwheel

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:09 AM PDT

So Im not a fan of this type of game RPG. So Im not really good at this.

So when I visit to my friends house last week, I saw him playing DarkSoul Remastered on PC and he is in the catacombs.

So after like 1 hr of dying and respawing. He finally got to the Boss, Pinwheel. He said to me that I can try to fight it. In my head like wtf I saw him screaming and getting frustated to the mobs and the obstacle and he letting me to kill a boss.

So I tried because it looks cool, when Im fighting, I died and after that my friends face cant describe because its literally an annoying face.

So he let me tried again run ,kill the mobs ,and run through the boss.

So the second time, I succesfully kill him and after my friend said that Pinwheel is the easiest boss in the game. After I got fucking annoyed to my friend, so after the lunch, I go home and buy DSR in steam.

And Now IM REALLY GLAD THAT I GOT DIED TO PINWHEEL AND GET ANNOYED TO MY FRIENDS FACE. That I got to play this AMAZING GAME.

I beat O&S using a summon, and it feels undeserved

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 03:14 AM PDT

A few days ago, I reached the end of Anor Londo for the first time. The area wasn't a big problem for me, as had a +5 Zweihänder that could defeat most enemies in 2 or 3 well-timed R2s. The only thing separating me from completing this area was the fog gate at the end of the cathedral and the subsequent boss fight, which I had saved for last. I have heard a lot about this duo and their incredible difficulty, so I wanted to be prepared and at a decently high level before attempting to beat them. Nethertheless, after making it through the level with relative ease, I felt ready for the long and arduous grind that would be Ornstein and Smough.

My first attempts were focused on cautiously gathering information. I observed their moves, dodged their attacks and rarely attacked. After some time, running away and dealing with Ornstein first while Smough tried to catch up turned out be a pretty good strategy. This would make the fight pretty lengthy, but relatively safe. My problem was consistency. I couldn't reliably dodge all their attacks, my own attacks were mistimed, and I didn't know how to position myself to maximize my time alone with Ornstein. But after my third or fourth attempt I was certain that there was nothing that time and practice couldn't change.

The only thing I lacked was the Estus to make it through such a long fight, so I decided to sacrifice two of my precious humanities and kindle the bonfire. While I was there, I saw a golden summoning sign shimmer on the ground, and I thought to myself: "I'm already human anyway, why not?". So I touched the sign, and shortly after, I had a companion following me to through the abandoned cathedral. We entered the boss fight (I didn't summon Solaire, because I didn't want to risk getting hit by the giants and the silver archer while running to his sign), and it began much like my previous attempts, albeit much easier. Soon, the two knights became separated: My Sunbro distracted Smough at the far end of the room, while I took on Ornstein. Without having to fear an unexpected hammer to the back at any moment, it became a decently difficult, but standard fight: Dodge, Wait, Dodge, Attack. Rinse and repeat, until I landed my last hit and the Dragonslayer dropped dead.

With Ornstein defeated, I and my Companion could shift all of our attention to the buffed Smough. This fight was much more manageable now: Smough's attacks were slow and predictable, dodging them was easy, and when they were not (namely, his lightning-buttslam), we had plenty of time to run away and wait for our opportunity to strike. Additionally, only two heavy attacks from my Zweihänder were enough to stun him, giving my summon enough time to dish out some extra damage. It wasn't long until we had taken him down, too, and with that, I had completed this infamous, challenging boss fight, that I had heard so much and experienced so little of.

I went up to the bonfire and the Princess's Chamber, obtained the Lordvessel and spent several minutes listening to the glorious music that celebrated my victory, but all the while a little thought was nagging in my head that made this victory seem a little hollow: "This was too easy".

Yes, I won. Yes, I had overcame this challenge, perhaps the most challenging boss in the game. But it would have felt so much more rewarding, so much more earned, if it had been the whole challenge, without a phantom to take on some of it himself. I could have had a harder, but much more rewarding fight, dodging and weaving through both of their attacks, strategically keeping my distance, isolating Ornstein and steadily whittling down his health, then taking on Smough, with no summon to distract him, take his hits or capitalize on my stuns. It would have taken me much more time, attempts and patience, but the feeling of triumph and accomplishment at the end would have been so much greater. I feel like I haven't really deserved the souls and the humanity, seeing all the famous "Amazing chest"-messages, hearing Gwynevere's theme and warping between bonfires. I feel like I have taken a shortcut, and robbed myself of a great part of the reward in the process.

For my next playthrough, I plan to fight them on my own. No tricks, no cheese, no summons, just a hard and honest battle. I can now say that I beat Ornstein and Smough, but only then will I be able to say that I beat Ornstein and Smough properly.

    The Zweihander

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 04:19 AM PDT

Fun facts about the Zweihander, it means "Two Hander" in english. And the word is German, so the W is actually pronounced like a V. So it is actually Zveihander

    Unknown Enemy

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:02 AM PDT

I was running threw the Duke's Archives and I came across an enemy I've never seen in all my playthroughs of this game. It looked like an eyeball with legs and like fleshy tendrils coming out the top.

Is it one of the rare chance enemy spawns?

A lot of people beat OnS today. I beat them too.

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 08:04 AM PDT

Honestly, very enjoyable fight but a tad bit disappointing. I killed Ornstein first after a long fight and then fought super smough. Zoomy zoom boi was annoying but was easy enough to dodge. The biggest pain in the ass was how Ornstein zooms around like a mad lad and has his lightning attacks hidden due to Smough's big ass! Ornstein's zooms are very buggy as well, This game is quite old so I guess it's fine.

The fight feels a bit unfair. With my Zweihander character, I can deal mad damage at an ok distance. I can't imagine how hard this must be for shortsword characters and how easy it would be with soul spear or homing soul mass characters.

Very good fight and good lore but it's not as amazing as *some people hyped it up to be. Sif was the same and I heard that the game becomes pretty easy for str characters and I guess I agree(I'm SL53 so I don't think I'm over levelled). Ornstein alone wasn't much of a challenge and super smough wasn't too hard either(I'm not sure if it's because I've played bloodborne so much).

How was your OnS and Sif fight? So far, it ranks below the bell gargoyles for me.

    A Confession...

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 07:54 AM PDT

I died to Pinwheel. I was doing a Red Tearstone Ring run and ran straight up to him and got blatted in the face and died. I've never died fighting this boss in my countless runs of this game. I will be turning in my official "Guy who is okay at Dark Souls" badge soon. I'm sorry everyone.

Are heavy armor worth it and improving claymore

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 02:53 AM PDT

So im currently playing ds for the first time and im currently using high strength to weild the greatshields. So due to that i was specing heavily into endurance. I have maxed out(?)my endurance at 40 because i heard going beyond 40 is not worth it. Now i had enougg endurance left to upgrade my elite knight chest piece to the giants armor chestpiece. But it said id reduce my stamina regeneration. But i honestly dont feel it that much. Am i missing something in that regard.

As for the weapon, im atm using the claymore and are very satisfyed with it. I tryed using the mandnake sword but it felt a litle....off...hard to explain... just felt slower and shorter. But it did more damage so i tryed it. But well....idk claymore felt better. So now i was wondering if there is a upgrade that makes the sword as powerfull as the man serpant one? Atm im sitting at 36 strength and 20 dex.

What are your favorite demons in the souls games?

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 01:55 AM PDT

    Beat the game, finally!

    Posted: 17 Sep 2020 07:33 PM PDT

I know there's a lot of these all the time, so I'm going to keep it short. I finally beat the game tonight after getting it on Xbox One, and losing that save, getting the Remastered on PC and my hard drive corrupting that save, and then powering through the game in about a week.

Biggest loss of souls was about 320k in the Demon Ruins, on this final run. Main weapons used were Bastard Sword (which eventually became a Divine +10) and the Claymore which eventually became just a +10. I think on this most recent playthrough I killed Pinwheel in about 30 seconds. I didn't summon any except for Solaire on Gwyn, and our boy got the final blow on him which felt really good since he got bamboozled by the illusory sun in Anor Londo.

I appreciate this community, and don't any of you dare go Hollow.

Hey, I have now about 600 hours on dark souls, I tried about every build possible and every type of weapons. I did SL1 runs too. I'm here to ask if you know very strange builds or fun challenges to modify the game a little bit. Thank you for reading.

For those who've played the Japanese version, is the sound design as amazing as the English version?

    Posted: 18 Sep 2020 12:41 AM PDT

Basically what the title implies, more specifically though in relation to the voice acting.

I think something that doesn't get as much recognition, though probably mutually agreeable, is how great the sound design and how it leads to ambience of the areas. That aside though, the way in which the characters speak and sound (more so) to me has always lended to creating an even richer experience. That sort of muffled quality and honestly, I'm not even sure how to put words to it, but there is a quality in how they sound that is just full of despair but yet a lack of awareness where it also doesn't feel sad, in some cases it feels poetic. Is this something that is also present in Japanese voice acting?

I don't want to wax and wane about the game but they really just did so much right. Sure there are bad frames in some cases and some interesting glitches but as a total package these games are so great. I've been playing since Demon Souls and find myself always coming back to one of these games and I think there is something about the quality and way in which the voice acting comes across as one of those things that just feels so unique and special to the souls experience.
