Proud to join this place finally, and i must say, ds2 is by far no where near as bad as people say, i love the game. I dont think any ds games were bad. Theyre all equally awesome

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 12:37 AM PDT

Havent beat the game yet though, unless theres like an instakill area or something, i think the only bad part was the gulch, but aside from that this game is awesome

Burnt Ivory King has the most unique boss design

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 08:09 AM PDT

I appreciate how intuitive this boss makes the surrounding area. You can fight him with only one of the knights, but it will be significantly harder. The key to success is by exploring the entire level in search for the other knights to help you fight the boss. It gives incentive and reward for exploring. This is essentially the only boss to offer such a unique approach, and that's why it stands out. Hopefully Elden Ring can take inspiration from this boss and perhaps offer its own spin on how certain bosses can be more than just entering the arena and straight up fighting it, with perhaps other arena hazards or abilities and additional reinforcements, counters, etc.

    I Am lvl 1 (PC - SotFS)

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 11:40 PM PDT

Hey buddy. Dont know if you're a redditor or not but I thought it was cool how you "invaded" me in Forest of the Giants. I'm Bogan. I played Dark Souls Trilogy a bunch in the past. It looked like you were there to help out new players. I appreciate what you do. I know I'm not top tier but i like to think I'm seasoned at the game.

I like how many times even I thought I was going to die, like when fighting the boss guy at the top of the tower before you fight him in his lair with the big crossbow. Thanks for finishing him for me.

I just finished playing through Dark Souls Remastered again where every invasion was a mask wearing guy going full throttle and down pointing after the kill. I expected more of the same so I chugged my estus and was ready to lose a duel to you. Instead you did the noob friendly thing. Pointing the way for me. Helping me kill enemies which I cant even remember if red phantoms can do that but whatever. Even giving me Giant Seeds. Kind of ironic since I know all the stuff already but I couldnt believe what was going on so I went with it.

Just wanted to shout you out since it's nice to see invasions that aren't always about trashing on players. I know that kind of invader is just what makes the game Dark Souls, but seeing a kinder side of the community was a really nice surprise.

    Cheers dude! :)

Agility Guide - Optimal Attunement/Adaptability for each major breakpoint

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 07:54 PM PDT

    Greetings skeletons!

I see this come up from time to time, so I thought I'd throw together a quick guide for balancing ATT and ADP to get your desired Attunement Slots and Agility.

    There will be 5 sections:

    1. 96 Agility - 11 i-frames, equal to the DS1 mid-roll - 6 backstep i-frames
    2. 99 Agility - 12 i-frames - 6 backstep i-frames
    3. 105 Agility - 13 i-frames, equal to the DS1 fast-roll - 7 backstep i-frames
    4. 111 Agility - 14 i-frames - 8 backstep i-frames
    5. 116 Agility - 16 i-frames, one more then the DS1 ninja-flip - 9 backstep i-frames

It's worth noting that many players are satisfied with 99 or 105 Agility, which are safely within the softcap.

    Let's jump in!

    96 Agility

    Spell Slots Attunement Adaptability
    1 10 18
    2 13 17
    3 16 16

    6 30 24
    7 40 20
    8 50 17

    8 50 33
    9 60 30
    10 75 25

    116 Agility

    Spell Slots Attunement Adaptability
    1 10 93
    2 13 92
    3 16 91
    4 20 90
    5 25 88
    6 30 86
    7 40 83
    8 50 80
    9 60 76
    10 75 71

u/bokuwhamz asked for the backstep I-frame breakpoints. They are:

    • 85 Agility - 3 frames

    • 87 Agility - 5 frames

    • 91 Agility - 6 frames

    • 100 Agility - 7 frames

    • 108 Agility - 8 frames

    • 113 Agility - 9 frames

I didn't include the ATT breakpoints for spell uses for the sake of readability, and also because equipment is much more important for increasing spell uses. For that info, check the Fextralife wiki page for Attunement.

If there's any mistakes please don't hesitate to let me know.

    Happy casting!

Finally Created a Decent Bleed Build

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 10:01 AM PDT

So anyone whose tried to make a Bleed build using Bleed infusion, Shadow Gauntlets, and the Bloodbro ring probably found that it takes so much to bleed out anything that the shitty damage from your weapons will kill mobs while proccing the mere 200 dmg bleed once, and be a joke in PvP.

Well...i have FINALLY, after acquiring, testing, Bleed infusing (when they can be), and upgrading EVERY single goddamn Bleed weapon in this game found a setup that doesn't absolutely suck in every way, not needing excessive amounts of skilled PvP tech to make work at all (ice rapier and ashen warrior sword is not as viable as you'd think when you deal only 50 dmg with them at +10).

Dual Full Moon Sickles...without powerstance. You might be thinking "the fuck is the point of dual wielding the same weapon without powerstance?", since usually 2 different weapons is a good idea to mix up movesets that compliment together well. This is because of how the Reaper moveset works. The first hit is a forward stepping swing, followed by a backwards stepping pull which almost always misses because hits knock people back a bit (who designed this awful moveset?). However, if you just alternate R1 and L1, you'll only do the forwards-stepping first hit, with decent speed and reach, creating a long reach stunlock chain that's constantly stepping forwards. And since the Full Moon Sickle has the highest bleed buildup in the game (combined with Shadow Gauntlets and Bloodbro ring makes it a whopping 430 at mininum stat requirements), while also retaining below average but not terrible damage, you actually pull off bleeding very often while dishing out mediocre damage (which is MUCH better than terrible damage like with most other Bleed infused weapons).

Full disclosure: This is NOT good, but simply the most semi-viable full Bleed dedicated setup that seems to be possible (maybe someone will find a better one). It's fun seeing people's confusion at the sheer absurdity of this actually working and even had some decent success against PvPers as it roll catches surprisingly well and it does have some mixup attacks.

Why is Dark Souls 2 "considered" the worst of the trilogy but the only title with a 90+ score on Metacritic?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 04:43 AM PDT

I tried explaining, to a co-worker, that DS2 might be the worst game for many but he brought up that it is the only title that holds the "Metacritic Must Play" award.

Question on magic changes from ds1

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 06:31 AM PDT

I'm currently working thought the souls series (currently not ds1 remastered ) and I'm trying to make a balanced build with strength and faith being the main focus. My goal is to platinum the game with this play style which I know is going to take a loooong time . When I get to ds2 I want to switch to a more magic based style using pyromancy miracles and sorcery to switch things up . I know that magic changed on the following entries adding a magic bar and Im curious how viable playing a pure user is . Any advice .... yes I am preplanning a build for a character that I won't get to for a while I'm just like that ocd lol

Should I complete the ds2 coop areas in the DLCs?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 11:16 AM PDT

I recently completed most of ds2 sotfs after a 3 year break and I only have the two pets in the ivory king dlc and the knock off smelter demon left. Up untill recently, there was a lot I had never completed like killing Aldia, Sir Allone, the Dark Lurkers or completing the sunken king DLC, wich has now made feel like I need to complete everything sience ds2 is my favorite game and I've come so far. At the same time though, I don't know how I can prove myself by killing some shitty copypastes.

There is no arguing that the NPC boss in Sunken, the Smelter in Iron and the Pets in Ivory are some of the laziest, shittiest bossfights in the entire franchice, nej the entire souls-borne series and the areas leading up to them are even shittier due to it being "coop" and hiding behind the fact that you can just kill the enemies till they despawn.

I just killed the NPCs wich was such a shit bossfight, I had to cheese "Havel" and bleach my controller.

I feel like none of this is worth my time and I'd rather act like those areas never existed. And the excuse that it's just more dark souls 2 and better than nothing is a really bad one, cuz we all know it could have been better and the fact that they even exist left a bad taste in my mouth. Ty.

Is it possible to extract separate sound files from the game?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 02:18 PM PDT

I love the party sound and I wanted to set it as my notification sound. My PC is broken though, so I can't check if they're easily available as .ogg or not. I didn't manage to Google it on my phone, too.

How should I get into PvP?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 01:06 PM PDT

I've played dark souls 3 and bloodborne, but the fact that they implemented the retarded idea of soul memory has been incredibly off putting to me for the longest time.

Question is, should I get into it even though the idea of every single soul matters gives me a little anxiety? If so, how should I do so?

Branch to get past the guy with the blue sword or go somewhere else?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 12:25 PM PDT

I'm really enjoying my playthrough so far. I quit the game a long time ago for all the same reasons that everybody hates on it. But after going back to DS1 and DSR for years I have gotten significantly better at from soft combat (still not gud) and am getting through much better than my last attempt back when the game was new.

I am playing as blind as I can without beating my head against a wall, so I ask the community:

There's a stone person in front of a switch past the guy with the blue sword and I already used the one branch I had unlocking Straid. Do I need to keep looking for a branch or find somewhere else to go? I'm pretty stuck right now on where to go.

(I believe) I have cleared the forest, Bastille, wharf, heide's, sinner.

Am I missing an area to go to or did I just walk past a branch somewhere?

Edit: I am playing vanilla on ps3

How do physical defense subtypes work?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 11:48 AM PDT

There is a stat for physical defense, but then separate stats for three major physical damage types. If I'm hit with a thrust weapon, for instance, does it go through my "base" physical defense as well as my subtype defense? Or are those completely separate? How does that all interact?

(I also posted this to DS1, but am posting it here in case the answers are different between the two games.)

Dark Souls 2 Invasion is..., why?

    Posted: 25 Aug 2020 11:21 AM PDT

Please tell me that I'm wrong. I'm a newbie to this game, I just finished my playthrough and now I want to invade as that's the only thing that hooks me these years to DS3, BB and DS1. But after five exact invasions I realized; even DS3 invasion system that encourage ganking is thousand times better than this game. I can't heal, have to farm the item, virtually no reward, and eternally last seed of the tree giant. I heard that PvP in DS2 is the best accross all souls game, but I think getting ganked at Ringed City and have to wait a chime maiden to be able to invade are way better than have to face all the enemies without healing and only get a fucking token! Maybe duel is far better, but duel is never my cup of tea. I only duel in DS3 and people at the arena tend to play passively (which is not a bad thing, just not my thing) and I rarely having fun with that kind of battle. I love chaotic battle and laughing at how random the result could be. Again, please tell me that I'm missed something from this invasion system. Please tell me that the invasion system is better and I can use some items to heal (other than miracle) or at the very least get human effigy equivalent items. I want to love this game as much as I love other souls games...

I actually really like Dark Souls 2.

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 06:19 PM PDT

I don't know what it is but I think it's better than Dark Souls 1 and only just slightly below DS3. Don't understand all of the flack it gets from the community because it seems like a competently made game with a lot of content and replayability. The UI is really snappy and the combat is alot more methodical without any R1 spamming nonsense. I don't get it seriously. Did people want this series to remain the same instead of experimenting a bit. If anything, DS3 played it way too safe and lacks its own identity without feeling burdened by the original.
