I finally had a wholesome online experience.

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 11:22 PM PDT

Yesterday, while I was backtracking through the Undead Burg, I noticed a Dragon Eye sign on the ground. Recalling how much of a pain in the ass it is to rank up in the Path of the Dragon covenant, I touched it and just let the other player kill me. He stood there for a bit trying to understand what I was doing but he did take the kill.

Next, he sent a friend invitation and I accepted it. I agreed to let him kill me for the Dragon Scales while he gave me a bunch of Humanities to keep going. We tried to do some fair PvP fights but the lag from my end is so severe that it was impossible anyway.

I also gave him all the Dragon Scales (6) I had since I have no intention to use them in my current faith build anyway. He gave me his White Titanite Chunks and a White Slab as well.

Next, I also helped him move over his equipment from one character to his dragon and he let me keep a shitload of titanites, a Chaos Zweihander +3, and an Obsidian Greatsword +3.

Then, I realized I'd almost forgotten what I was doing before all this. I was on my way to fight Sif, and he agreed to co-op against her.

On the way there, an invader tried to chase me down. I was far enough away that I could've just penetrated the fog wall but instead, I looked back to see if he was silly enough to get on the bridge, while my dragonbro was coming the other way.

    He was.

I knocked him on his ass with Wrath of the Gods, while dragonbro toasted it with fire breath, sandwiching him on the bridge.

I was like, "he picked the wrong neighborhood" and he was like, "100% lol rip"

The first time I played through Dark Souls to the end was like 5 years ago. Over the years I've had a distaste for multiplayer due to too many negative experiences but finally, I struck gold by just wanting to help somebody out -- something which I always try to do, but usually I end up sitting there, waiting to be summoned for co-op for way too long. I still get ganked quite often by minmax invaders but if more players on Steam think like me, I hope to meet them someday.

    Dark Souls and Mental Health

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 11:38 PM PDT

So recently I've noticed a trend of people talking about Dark Souls and Mental health so thought to share my story, I know mental health awareness month is over but doesn't mean you can't stop talking about it.

So back around 2014. I just turned 15.I got depression, my abusive father left, my mothet was down (naturally), my sister didn't have the best relationship with me. I was still recovering from sexual assult. My therapist wasn't really helping. Because of what happened I lost friends, onlt a few stayed and my boyfriend also broke up with me. Then heart problems rose. (Yeah 2014 sucked for me)

But one day I went to my friends place after school and he wanted to show me something. He booted up his xbox, slid in the disk, and saw the title DARK SOULS. I was confused but interested. So I did the usual made a simple character, chose knight, watched the cinematic, broke out of the asylum. My friend gave me little hints, like "It's hard, run away from the demon." After beating the demon the second time. I left and was thrown into firelink. "Talk to that guy" (crestfallen warrior). Got the run down on what to do, but running into the undead burg and see the dragon crash infront of me, see in the town of zombies. I stayed at his until 5pm and reached the bell gargoyles. But the game hooked me instantly. After playing a couple more days I decided to buy a copy myself. I had never played anything like it. Tge only games I played were Skyrim, Devil May Cry, Black ops 2, Fallout NV. But Dark souls hooked me instantly. My friend even gave me an xbox live card.

    "Lets play together this weekend."

    "How?"

    "Dark souls has co op."

So I installed Skype on my laptop and I called him then got to playing. All thought Dark Souls didn't fix tge ptsd it helped to get my mind of it. I helped me connect to my friend. Late in 2016 he told me about dark souls 3 and we both got a copy and an xbox one so we could play together.

The challenge and getting back up to keep fighting these monsters, punching a brick wall getting further and further and leading how to get past certian areas felt good, finally beating that one boss that I thought was impossible. Trying new things and finding secrets within, learning more lore. Later in 2018 I made a full recovery. I wish I recovered before my graduation, better late than never.

This strange game from Japan that my late friend showed me just showed up in my life and helpedme more than I thought and it's been my favorite game series since and even got me into gaming.

Stay safe friend, don't you dare go hollow.

    What about everyone else.

I was farming titanite chunks from the darkwraith's and got two titanite slab in a row

Is there a faster way to get from Undead Parish to Undead Burg than going back on the path?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:12 AM PDT

I finally defeated the Bell Gargoyles, but skipped the black knight and the big bat man (i don't know how to call him) in Undead Burg. I know about the elevator from Undead Parish to Firelink Shrine, but is there another to Undead Burg? Thank you for your awnsers! Edit: wrote Firelink Shrine with two "i"

    Titanite Lore

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 03:18 AM PDT

Can someone make a mod for ds 1 to add cloth physics and crossbow aiming? Is it possible to do this?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 04:02 AM PDT

I've seen some people anding some physics from a squeal to a prequel like gta, I wonder if it is possible to do this with dark souls. Ds 1 enemies already have cloth physics and they can aim, or maybe with ds2 's physics.

What dark souls game should I play first?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 04:27 AM PDT

So I'm completely new to soulslikes and I wanted to start with DS. I'm thinking off starting with DS3 (I'm aware this subreddit is dedicated strictly too DS1) and then maybe going off to Sekiro as I don't really have the time for that many 50+ hour games but I did want to get a taste for the souls series. Is the lore really that inaccessible if you've never played DS1? And how long of a game is a single walkthrough of either DS1 or 3?

Pretty new to the game, question about weapons

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 10:46 PM PDT

I've been playing the Switch version of Dark Souls Remastered for about a week or so. I just beat the Bell Gargoyle, and got his tail axe and halberd. Until this point I've been using the Drake Sword almost exclusively. I've read about how the Drake Sword is good for early game, but not so much as you progress through the game. Why is that exactly? Is it just because upgrading it uses rare materials?

Also, how do you decide what weapons and armor to focus on upgrading? Should you focus on one or a few weapons to spend titanite on to upgrade? Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here, but I just want to use resources efficiently.

    That was strange

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 08:49 PM PDT

So I started a joke save called Karen's Child and for some reason I spawned in with the rite of kindling and picked up a lot of keys? Weirdest thing I've experienced in this game.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 04:59 AM PDT

When I was 13 I found a video named Happy Souls. I wanted to understand and laugh at this video so I played DS1 and then DS2. And today DS1 is my favorite game. So I wondered if anyone get into souls series because of this video.

Theory: Is Patches Miyazaki-san's self-insert character?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 07:18 AM PDT

Japanese authors tend to use self-insert characters in their works of fiction. They're usually in as a cameo or as comedy relief and rarely have any importance to the plot. Patches is almost in every game in the franchise, from Demon's Souls to Bloodborne -- though he's an anthropomorphic arachnid in BB, he's pretty much the same person in the Souls games.

So, what kind of character is Patches? He hates clerics, he likes kicking people off of ledges after attempting to trick them into fetching treasure for themselves (in BB he tries to crush you with a boulder), but afterward he becomes a merchant and sells some kind of useful gear. In Dark Souls, he sells Pinwheel's masks, humanity, etc. In Demon's Souls, he's the only merchant that sells Shards of Archstones. In Dark Souls III he sells numerous things but most important of all, Siegward's armor (which he stole lol), and in Dark Souls II he... wait for it...

Isn't in the game. Because Miyazaki-san didn't direct it. He's effectively replaced by Pate, who shares some personality traits, but isn't quite... right. Even his name. "Pate." It's like it's only halfway to "Patches." Even the name "Patches" itself seems out of place. A patch, in terms of videogames, is digital data applied to the game, meant to fix issues. But in the context of the world of Soulsborne, what does his name mean? Patches usually has a title attached to his name, either the "Hyena," or "Unbreakable" or "Spider," and when he becomes a merchant under the guise of turning a new leaf, he gives himself the title of "Trusty," but you know better. He tried to have you killed, with the intent of stealing your gear and gloated about it.

Another thing to note is how Patches usually knows quite a bit about the other characters, and he's never wrong, despite being a back-stabber. In Dark Souls III, he also shows some kind of affection towards Greirat, but I can't tell how this would relate to my meta-theory. Perhaps someone else can find a connection there?

I can't speak wholeheartedly of Miyazaki's intentions with the game, I'm not a dedicated fan and so I've not taken the time to watch/read interviews with him. But a while back, I looked up the Pendant from this game. It's a starting gift and Rheah of Thorolund drops it if you kill her at a certain point. Curiously, I discovered that Miyazaki once suggested starting with this Pendant or Nothing as a starting gift. People theorized what the Pendant might do, but in reality, it does absolutely nothing interesting, and even Miyazaki admitted wanting to "pull a bit of a prank" on players. You can trade it with Snuggly for a Souvenir of Reprisal, but that's it.

Can't get warm with DSR after DS 2 & 3

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 04:21 AM PDT

So I finished Dark Souls 3 with all DLCs about 6 months ago, last week I finished Dark Souls 2 with all DLCs, so I bought the Dark Souls Remastered to round it up. But for some reason I can't get warm with it. The controls feels so off and slow after 2 & 3.

I don't know why, but I can't get past Quelaag, rolling doesn't seem to work as good as in Dark Souls 2 or 3. I'm currently at lvl 32, strength build, with a Claymore +5. I think I'm too familiar with the newer ones so I try to DSR like it, because I was able to finish the real Dark Souls 1 years ago on a laptot without a controller. Also it seems like when locking on I only can roll in 4 directions, which feels weird. I'm midrolling at the moment.

Can anyone help me here? I know the game from the past, but I can't get it to work anymore. DS3 was easy and I beat it without any problems. I'm still able to parry everything perfectly.

    Thanks for you help!

I honestly wish the Black Knight weapons couldn't drop from normal Black Knights and only the ones in the Kiln of The First Flame

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 03:54 AM PDT

It saddens me to see so many damn people being able to breeze through the game on their first playthrough simply because they got the weapons. It ruins the beauty of many of the boss fights and ruins weapon progression.

recently beat the game for the first time

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 09:51 PM PDT

i recently killed the final boss and started new game + and here are my thoughts, it was way too easy, no not just the final boss but it as a whole yes i died quite a few times (mostly to falls bosses and hordes of enemies) but overall i think id say the game wasnt really hard like it was hyped up to be for example people seem to really think the ornstein and smough fight is hard but i found it extremely easy compared to some other bosses i did it first try with solaire i killed smough first and ultra ornstein felt like the asylum demon except lightning he just kept but slamming i had some trouble with knight artorias and manus

the boss i died to the most would probably be kalameet but only cause i was trying to cut off his tail and the area i died in most would have to be either sens fortress or crystal caves but other then that it seemed relatively easy compared to how people made it out to be

The catacombs, Pinwheel on “hard” mode lol

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:58 PM PDT

Started a new playthrough a couple of days ago. Before progressing to Anor Londo I decided I would tackle the catacombs first to get the rite of kindling.

I hate the catacombs almost as much as I hate Blightown, so I decided I would progress through the whole area without resting at bonfires and only lighting them so I could homeward bone directly to firelink after I was done. Instead of just rushing to the boss I actually completed the whole area and reached the blacksmith with 3 estus left, which is pretty good for completing the whole area without holy weapons imo.

The skeleton wheels had other plans in mind and made me go through to Pinwheel with no estus left. I entered the boss fight without summons and with half health.

I was able to kill him with only a few hits, but damn I have never been so stressed out in a boss fight haha, bc even though I knew he was easy, I also knew that one hit would probably one shot me and I would have to go through the whole area again. Luckily that didn't happen.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

So, you young' uns just buy Twinkling Titanite from the Giant Blacksmith in Anor Londo, do ya?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:56 AM PDT

Well back in my day, we had to WORK for our Twinkling Titanite! Ner giant doohickey just handed it to us for a woppin' 8000 souls! We had to slaughter 'em Clams just to get one derned piece to make just a single upgrade to our weapons and armor!

And let me tell ya sonny boy, the Crystal Ring Shield wasn't as useless as you made it out to be! Right before therse derned gods decided to make the thing as useless as an Astora's Straight Sword, it could cut even the Four Kings to ribbons within a few seconds!

And let me tell you about-
