Dark Souls on mute with other music on

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 04:08 AM PDT

    Hey guys and girls,

I was battling through the ghosts of New Londo and having a real hard time at it. I had a phone call during it so put the game on mute and continued playing whilst having the phone call on speaker. I was suddenly doing much better. It had to be the lack of ghoulish cries and clanking walls making me a better player.

I now play Dark Souls on mute and put some music on. Pantera, Opeth, Slayer. Anything to give me a helpful distraction.

I know this is not the correct way to play the game however does anyone else do this and does it make them a better player?

    Don't give up Skeleton.

Playing through this game after dark souls 3 was surreal for me

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 04:29 PM PDT

Starting off on bloodborne, getting into Dark Souls 3 was tough. But, just like BB, I eventually fell in love and completed it too. I wanted more, so I went ahead and decided to play through Dark Souls Remastered and eventually 2.

I have to say, discovering and playing through levels like Anor Londo was incredibly surreal. It was like experiencing a prequel story and going through what started it all. Seeing Anor Londo all sunny and beautiful was so amazing when contrasted to the cold and bitter environment of the Anor Londo I knew.

I see now how Dark Souls 3 was basically the original Dark Souls' love child. God I love these games.

Do I need to keep bosses alive to be invaded in Oolacile Township?

I'd like to try out PvP in the area just after Artorias. Do I need to keep Kalameet and/or Manus alive in order to get invaded there?

Lack of Cracked Red Orbs? [Spoilers]

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:45 AM PDT

I bought the Remastered version a while back after always being put off by how difficult everyone said Dark Souls was. Glad I got it, it has quickly become my favourite game to have ever played.

But, I have a small issue. I stumbled upon the 4 cracked red orbs right before revisiting The Undead Asylum. I used them and got into a couple of really fun fights.

I wanted to get more of em and looked up on the wiki only to find out there's only 10 in the game before beating Four Kings and joining dark wraiths. As far as I'm aware it'll be pretty late into the game before I do this boss battle and join this covenant.

I've always figured invasions were something that happened a lot to people but having only 4 orbs to play around with to invade people with from the firelink shrine until you beat the Four Kings seems like a design flaw. And a particularly glaring one for the Remastered version, I'm not sure why they decided to leave it in. It seems like my anxiety about going human and worrying about getting invaded was largely unfounded?

Am I right to think this is a design flaw?

I Dark Souls would get a Super Smash Bros. representative, who would it be and what moves would they get?

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 02:27 AM PDT

Dark Souls has been released on the switch and the series is definitely popular and iconic enough to be represented. Getting a character into Smash isn't too far fetched. Here are a few options that could work imo:

    1. Solaire: Extremely popular, many lightning based attacks in the series to work with and reference.
    2. The chosen undead: Their gear would likely be the elite knight armour+knight shield+zweihänder or claymore. absolutely iconic, they appear on all the promotional material and they would offer the most variety in terms of moves to choose from. the heavier swords they might use could help them stand out from other sword fighters.
    3. Artorias. He only appears as a Boss in one of the games, but he is still very popular. His extremely agile fighting style would work very well in smash bros+ he actually has some aerial moves.
    4. Ornstein. OnS is probably the most iconic boss fight from the series, he appears in DS2 and you could easily implement multiple references to the nameless king, covering all the games. Using both his moveset and some references to nameless, he has the most varied aerial moveset from any humanoid in the series. Many lightning based attacks to reference+he isn't a sword fighter.
    5. One of the onion bros: Also very popular and they appear in every single game. The spiked shield and force themed miracles could make them quite unique. also: heavier swords.

Most worrying for most might be their aerial moves and recovery.

For the recovery any of the characters could use the Demons from Anor Londo. They carry the Player through the air in both DS1 and DS3 and could work similar to villagers recovery.

For aerials various miracles or other spells could be used+general sword swipes.

Moves I'd love to be implemented in general:

    - the shield break->riposte from DS2. it's probably the most obvious difference in gameplay to the other games and would be a great reference.

    - The Dragonslayer great bow. Using them in the Souls games is extremely satisfying+The Anor Londo archers have been a meme since day 1.

    - The plunging attack.

What do you think about this? It probably won't happen, but who knows. it's still fun to speculate.

I know that Lost Izalith was rushed but is more dragon butts really the way?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:43 PM PDT

Lost Izalith was rushed there is no denying that. But why is there so much reused content? I mean there's even yet ANOTHER Asylum Demon boss. I mean... At least they could've made less enemies that had more health or something? And btw for a place where Black knights fought so hard against Chaos we don't see them anywhere. Not one guy. Not even a body of one. (This is a nitpick but they could've reused that enemy since he's fitting and it would be a „rest" from all the combat with the big bois. Than there's the Lava Lake with Dragon Butts. It's fine overall, I guess but it could've been one full undead dragon that would be chasing you instead of casually sitting like he does in other places. I'd say it would be more enjoyable than the way this area is right now.

It's just that for example Kiln of the First Flame is a loooong fun with only 5 enemies. How come it's more enjoyable? Also the fact that you HAVE to equip the orange ring to traverse the Lava parts is really annoying. I found myself dying several times just because I forgot to unequip my Havel's ring after being killed by Bed Of Chaos.

Bed Of Chaos isn't that bad actually and while it could use a bit of polish it's fine the way it is (including the saving of progress when you die). It isn't as much of a „parkour" section as some other people refer to it.

And it's sad that the area generally is pretty dull but it's a lesson of what crunch can do to the game.

And here to my rage against the remaster that seemingly appears in every post. Why the fuck didn't it change this area. Just imagine what a proper remaster could have done to this place but nope. Nope. But you have moving leaves! That's what you pay attention at in Souls games.

TL;DR What a shame... Such a cool place with lore and such an awful broken mess without it. (Almost summed up 1/6t of the game's places with that statement)

    cool artifacts from development

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 01:50 AM PDT

its common knowledge that when you get far away from something in games they render low poly versions of the scenery to save memory but did you know that in Dark souls the renders can often show the way a location was in a previous state of development ? the coolest of these is what seems to be rail guns or cannons mounted on the wall of Anor Londo but others exist like the short cut to the depths from Firelink shrine.

if you want to see these for yourself you can use this site https://noclip.website/#dks/m17_00_00_00;ShareData=AKxn?Uc(v(UNZBW9Sw9K=-QGiQ$2kOUYqAxUOsQgWobE)UIF,;9M)02UtsA?WqUIF,;9M)02UtsA?Wq)

render the dukes archives then look for the walls at Anor Londo or go to around 27:30 in this video for the wall guns and 33:00 for the Firelink Depths shortcut https://noclip.website/#dks/m17_00_00_00;ShareData=AKxn?Uc(v(UNZBW9Sw9K=-QGiQ$2kOUYqAxUOsQgWobE)UIF,;9M)02UtsA?WqUIF,;9M)02UtsA?Wq)

(if anyone has a link to the devs commenting on this stuff id love to see it)

Question about PvP and gaining souls

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 01:08 AM PDT

So I just started to do some pvp, and I was curious on how I gain souls. When I invade someone as a red and kill the host I don't gain souls, but when I invade to kill a gravelord servant and one of the blue dudes die I do gain souls? I'm just a little confused on how and when I do and do not gain souls, and am looking for clarification.

Complete List of Changes to Dark Souls

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:00 PM PDT

I am one of the biggest fans of Dark Souls. I was so amazed that for a while, I could not believe how one game can get so many things right in one attempt. I didn't know back then yet about Demon's Souls, and I have not yet reached Lost Izalith in the game.

And so, my journey as a fan continued. I read everything I can about the game and the man, Miyazaki sensei.

I would like to share with you all that I have collected in my journey, the complete list of changes I could find about the "original" Dark Souls. It is not much, but it's honest work.

Complete List of Changes to Dark Souls

    1) Priscilla is the heroine of Dark Souls

    2) Firelink Shrine is a water temple with a pond in the middle

    3) The Painted World of Ariamis is the "original" Dark Souls, the prototype of the game

    4) Gwynevere was originally designed to have a mouth in the palm of her hand, like Vampire Hunter D's Left Hand

    5) Andre of Astora has a significant role in the game as a descendant of Gwyn

    6) Nito was the original boss of the prototype game

    7) The Centipede Demon was originally located on the top of the Church (Bell Tower)

    8) Smough is the first and original member of the Four Knights

    9) The Channeler is the second original member of the Four Knights

    10) The King of Izalith is the main boss at the center of the Bed of Chaos

    11) The Black Knights were originally designed to roam the world (The Wandering Black Knights)

    12) Domhnal was the original owner of Avelyn, the Triple Crossbow

    13) Dusk was in the original scope of Dark Souls but got removed due to time constraints.

    14) The game changed three times before it became Dark Souls - from Dark Race to Dark Lord to Dark Ring.

(Reasons for the changes - Dark Race is racist, Dark Lord is already taken in trademark, and Dark Ring means anus in some places)

Here's a video compilation I have made solely based my first play through which was around 3-4 hours. I'm sure this will bring back a lot of memories and nightmares for those who had played this back in the day haha! And for that, I apologise =P

Play Dark Souls Remastered with Dark Souls III character speed

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 03:26 AM PDT

I just finished Dark Souls 3 and want to replay Dark Souls Remastered, but its just hard to adjust to your character. Your character in the 3rd game moves faster than in the 1st. Is there any way to adjust the speed of your character or are there mods out there that does this?

NG+ PvE only weapon choice for boss fights

    Posted: 02 Jun 2020 02:12 AM PDT

Howdy, I having been late to this party but man it is still a great party even though most have gone home! My first play through was a STR END one and my second (NG) is a DEX one. Now I want to go into NG+ and get those sweet achieves.

What I really want advice with is DMG! Currently my build is SL 81 with DEX 40, END 26, VIT 26 and I am dumping points into faith for the Solaire covenant achievement.

My weapon is Ilato +15 which is fun to use but its damage doesn't seem like it will be enough in NG+ bosswise. So yeah my question boils down to which dex weapon to use in PvE NG+ for boss fights?
