/r/DarkSouls2 - Modding Monday. Posted: 31 May 2020 11:17 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! So I just fought Nashandra and Aldia for the second time Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:40 AM PDT The first time, I went in alone with the curved dragon greatsword and I didn't do the DLC so I only had to fight Nashandra. But I recently played through again and this time I did all the dlc, all the memories, and beat every boss beforehand as well as a few NPC questlines. This time I went in with Raime's armor and the powerstanced Smelter and Aged Smelter sets, and 3 NPC phantoms helping. It really felt like I was charging into a final battle this time, none of us died to Nashandra but when Aldia reared his ugly head, first Benhart of Jugo, and then the Head of Vengarl fell to the flames, but I along with the knight of the old guard defeated Aldia together and now I stand, ready to choose light or dark as the fate for humanity. To the guy in Throne Floor who dropped me a hacked item and got me banned. Posted: 31 May 2020 05:32 PM PDT I had summoned you in hopes of achieving Joyful Cooperation TM, but instead, you remained AFK for 2 minutes, and after coming to your senses you dropped an item. What a fool I was... To trust random undead scattered across the world, to trust that this one human wouldn't deceive me so deeply. After grabbing the item you left me, I saw no UI pop-up of which item it was. That was when it all became clear. It was a cheater. You emotically shrugged at me and used your Black Separation Crystal, leaving me both lonely for the coming challenge of Throne Floor and fearful for what was eventually coming. My fears were not misplaced. After the passing of two days, I felt it. Every single place was desolated. No white, golden or red signs. Only pure solitude and desolation. I shed a manly tear at this dark revelation. I will never forgive you for your deplorable and evil action. At the very least you could've given me hacked items that would benefit me on my journey, but what you actually chose was to give me an invisible, unusable piece of junk. Unfortunately, your ultimate goal was a failure. This was a Family-Shared Steam account I use especially for situations such as this. To hell with you, shameful undead scum. May the Flame not be with you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 08:31 AM PDT I have to say this is by far my most favorite area out of the whole game. The mood and setting of area is just absolutely amazing. You've got your dudes in dragon armor that bow everytime you walk up and I love that! I loved it so much I actually felt honored to be there (I also bowed back to everyone of them individually). The dragon flying around and then you have that nice sun light (Praise the sun!!) That illuminates the entire area. This has to be by far one of the most aesthetic places in the game. I'll be spending a lot of time in this area alone grabbing screenshots apon screenshots. Btw do I have to fight the dragon at the end? I really don't want to. [link] [comments] |
The Frigid Outskirts, it’s game design flaws, and how to fix it Posted: 01 Jun 2020 09:09 AM PDT This is a long one, so be warned. I'm currently on the last couple bosses of my all boss no summons run, and I had never gone to the frigid outskirts before because I knew the horrors that place has, but I had no choice so I went. As I write this, I just finished the boss. I'm going to go over every aspect of the area and Explain why I believe it is the worst designed area in all of souls, and one of the worst of all of gamings catalogue. The Good -Atmosphere is incredible -Unique -Decent gimmick (Blizzard fading and coming back) -The Area extremely open, unlike anything else in the series The Alright, Serviceable parts -Reasons to go are alright, some cool items and 2 boss souls -Npc enemies are fine enough The Bad -The boss fight -The goddamn horses -The boss run -Balance and spawning -Hitboxes This doesn't sound SO bad, until we go into a little more detail The boss is a repeat boss from the dlc already, without the unique gimmick of that boss. Aava was the name of the original, and the two other tigers in this dual boss are Zallen and Lud. The design of Aava and all of their moves were taken, aside from one unique move I counted. Aava was a good boss, and even when he/she wasn't invisible, many players struggled with them. Just slapping 2 of them in a boss fight is lazy and unbalanced. These bosses were designed to be fought one on one. As for the "unique move" it's just a buff. Their unique move buffs themselves when there's only one tiger left, and it seamingly buffs damage and heals them slowly. piss poor design. The only thing this boss did right was wait a bit until the first tiger was injured before the second one joins the fight. I'm not opposed to buffs like that, but when it's the only unique thing a boss has, that boss isn't very good. THE BITCH-ASS HORSES This is the worst part of the whole area, and my main reason to hate it. in an area like this, I can understand why fromsoftware would want an enemy to spawn in the blizzard; this exists so the player can't just walk by the enemies and then complain that there's nothing to do except walk to the boss. This isn't a problem for the rest of the game because boss runs can be a fun challenge due to the tight corridors and paths this game has, coupled with the longer entry time for fog walls, you have to get creative with how you lure enemies. Due to the open nature of this place, it doesn't apply. But it's so obvious no time or care was put into these enemies whatsoever. To start, they can stall you with 3 VARIETIES of electric projectiles. These are often used in a row, and I think this was intended due to how often it occurred to me. When they aren't stalling you with projectiles, they charge you with among the worst hit box moves i've had the displeasure to fight against in this game. The charge. From what i can tell, it has 2 hit boxes, one as he charges, and one as he swings. Because both hit your shield, it takes a ridiculous amount of stamina, making blocking a non option in most cases. This leaves you with rolling, but if you roll to late you get boped before he swings, and if you roll to early the stupid tracking on the swing will 180 and smack you. The timing on this roll to get right is so tight, rolling isn't even worth trying the majority of the time, even with a lot of adaptability. This makes, for my sword character at least, the OPTIMAL STAT being getting hit and r1 spamming until it dies, taking about 80% of my health on the average encounter. These encounters last about a minute each, sometimes you run into 4 or 5 of these before you make it to the boss, not even counting the time it takes to move on foot and through the loading screen from the coffin, you're looking at 8-10 minutes between EVERY FIGHT of a boss i've established is bs in numerous ways. This enemy makes a bad area, much much much worse. This isn't even taking into account when these things spawn 2 at a time, which happens on occasion, annoyingly most of the time right near the boss room, which is a final fuck you to someone who probably spent 6+ minutes already walking there. Fighting 2 at a time is possible, but not with lifegems, which you'll wanna be using to save flasks for the boss. This makes this infinitely more frustrating than it has to be. Not to mention, you can't effectively run past these enemies, but fighting them doesn't yield any rewards except for the occasional rare item, in all my 4 hours i was stuck on this area, I got one petrified dragon bone and one old radiant life gem, of which i used many more of while fighting those horses in the first place. This area and boss run is at its best when you get extremely lucky and have only one horse spawn, and "at its best" is just running multiple minutes to a boss room. How to fix this area what's frustrating looking back on it is that this area could've been the coolest side area in all the dlcs, but instead it becomes worse than even the petrification hell in sactum city and the Iron passage in brume tower. The reason all these areas suck donkey dick is because they were designed to be coop areas. when the dlcs first launched, you could enter this room and put down your summon sign, and be summoned into the 3 areas mentioned earlier, and fight the boss there. The problem with this is that it's outdated; currently i'm playing scholar of the first sin, meaning everyone on that version already had the dlc. Thus making that summon area pointless. Scholar often changes enemy placement and such so things make more sense, such as most heide knights being at the heide tower of flame for example, so i can't see why they couldn't have balanced these areas to be played by one player, OR by multiple people, much like the base game. My first suggestion to "fix" this area is to make the blizzard consistent. to discourage players from walking along the shitty textured wall, the blizzard could get thicker and never let up near those areas, and be as it is, or a bit lighter, on the main path. You can leave the bitch horse enemies to the thick part of the blizzard. Instead, you would replace them with a variety of enemies. You could stick with the theme of npc enemies that already exists in this area, or perhaps you could use those invisible guys from shaded woods, who are literally only used for that area and nothing else (except used sparingly in the proceeding area in scholar). This is probably the easiest fix for they could've possibly implemented, and would've made this area a fun challenge as opposed to the tedious hell it is currently, though this doesn't fix the boss run aspect, only makes it possible for you to run past if you go the main path. My other idea would've really applied best to the base game. Instead of making this, and the other "coop areas" literally represent nothing at all from the dlc except the enemies (literally, none of the dlc coop areas look like they fit in the dlc), you could make them better represent the dlc they came from and almost serve as an advertisement for the players that get summoned into the dlc. For Eleum Loyce, it could've still been the frigid outskirts. But representing the horizontal maze like paths of the main dlc would've been better. Like maybe include some dungeons where undead are locked away in this pushed aside area, and opening them would have more reward, but be more challenging, allowing for one player to walk past them if they're solo, but making things more active for coop players. You could even keep the lazy boss at that point, but make it a 2 tiger fight from the start with coop, and make it a one after the other fight if you're solo. Include a shortcut, so once you've gone through the area once the boss run isn't 10 minutes. This would've made what i consider the best dlc to actually be rounded off well in all of its aspects, and not have this blight of an area attached to it. This post is more rants than anything, this game is long gone from fromsofts interests, but it's worth looking back on and seeing what could've been [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:50 PM PDT I Finally beat dark souls 2 after years of rejecting it because of the hate it got, and ive got to say this game isn't that bad, yes it has its flaws but its an amazing game. The game was somewhat easier for me to play though because I already have experience with the Souls series from demon souls to sekiro and hopefully elden ring, but I will definitely say that if I was new I probably would have put the game down and never played again. (I will be talking about the areas because I really enjoyed every area of the game.) Now let's talk about the disappointing these are the boss fights I found just down right sad in my opinion. That includes Flexile sentry, royal rat vanguard, royal rat authority, Scorpioness Najka, The Duke's Dear Freja, Old Dragonslayer, the rotten, Covetous Demon, the old Iron king, guardian dragon, demon of song, first dragonrider fight, Prowling Magus and Congregation, giant lord, and Nashandra. All the fights I never really had a thrill of excitement when I played against them. They were either boring or just easy. Now the bosses I had a blast going up against and I'll explain why.
3.looking glass knight I absolutely for some odd reason loved this fight. The design for the boss was overall just badass. I rocked that armor for practically the rest of the game just because of the looks alone. The move set was alright but it was could punish you if you weren't careful. Now what I thought was amazing for this boss was that it was able to summon NPC's and invaders.
6.Belfry Gargoyles Now I loved and hate this boss. What i hated is the fact it just a recycled boss from the last game, but what made me love it was even though it was recycled it was given a twist. Instead of having only 2 gargoyles you were made to fight 5 of them. Which made you have to dodge more and pick one off and then take on another.
Yes I know I'm missing a few bosses and the dlc bosses. I still have to get to them a fight them. Once I do I will type out another review on them. As for the I won't be doing that until ng+ 2 or 3 because idk I just like to play my dlc much much harder. Anyways I hope you enjoyed this and it was a lot but I thank thee for taking the time to read it. Praise the sun!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:05 AM PDT I LOVE the concept of the loyce knights following you down into certain death. Self-sacrifice always gets me. And, again, BIK's entrance is not to be underestimated. It is full-blown terror. Except for the trek to release the third loyce knight (the one after Covetous Demon, Pt. 2) which I find to be artificially difficult, I'm really enjoying Crown of the Ivory King. WAY more than Crown of the Old Iron King. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:21 PM PDT Im currently using a faith build. I'm not sure if I wanna put points into faith to wield sunlight blade, and im thinking between these two spells for pvp. Which one is better? [link] [comments] |
Which is the best weapon with weight of 3 units or less? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:31 PM PDT I'm doing a Flynn build but I'm unsure about what weapon I should use, I've been sticking with a longsword for the longest time now and I would like to switch it up. Also wondering if I'd better pick up something a little bit more heavy, [link] [comments] |
How do I get to the dlc early? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 06:59 AM PDT In my first play through I didn't even bother to try the dlc's, but now I'm ready, how do I access them early? [link] [comments] |
Problems with invading and summoning, help? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 11:54 AM PDT I play SotFS on pc and every time I reinstall, they same thing happens. •I will be in the forest of giants after just starting and I will be able to summon one player, after which I never see another player's summon sign again despite seeing a ton of phantoms and messages. •I never get summoned after putting down a summon sign and I've waited for hours •Whenever I use a cracked red eye orb a message saying "unable to find world to invade" appears immediately, even before the text saying "searching for world to invade". •I never get invaded by other players •I've used the bone of order to see if I got banned for some reason but it says I can't use it •I've done all of this at various locations where my SM matched other players (the orange outlined bonfire locations) I have now played through all of the base game save for the throne of want and these issues have persisted. Does anyone know what could be going on? I know people are online because I see their messages and phantoms and from the fact that I am almost always able to summon at least one person every time I reinstall. EDIT: I made another save and got to cardinal tower where I attempted to invade twice and was successful however the main save is still having the same issued EDIT 2: I just cleared through all of the bosses in FoG and HToF and have leveled up to 54 and have a SM of 133045 and a +1 weapon on the new save and now I am getting the same message when I try to invade in the same instantaneous fashion [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 May 2020 04:15 PM PDT You'll want to view them full size on a computer. Imgur butchers them on mobile browsers and in the app. I'm playing SotFS for the first time in almost five years. Native res always looked really grainy/fuzzy to me so I set up Nvidia DSR at 5120x2880 on a 2560x1440 monitor and it looks gorgeous. All the screenshots in the album are at the full 5K resolution. What's the armor in the sotfs picture you see when you open the game? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:48 AM PDT |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 09:49 AM PDT The first time I played DS2, the Burnt Ivory King kicked my butt pretty darned good. This time around, though, I'm not having anywhere near the difficulty I am with it. I can kill all the charred Loyce knights and still have a knight of my own for the BIK consistently. So now that I have the pre-boss brawl down to a science, I've taken to soul farming there. :) I net around 28k souls per run. I don't know if it's the most efficient, but I'm LOVING stomping the charred Loyce knights over and over and over again. Every time I do, I get to see BIK's grand entrance. I tell ya, man, that's the most tension-building, jaw-dropping, "GOOD GOD WHAT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN?!?" entrance in Soulsbourne and easily in the top five I've ever experienced. Holy CRAP, it's awesome! [link] [comments] |
Playing through the game for the first time Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:08 PM PDT Warning: this is probably a long rant, I wanted to share and it doesn't mean I don't respect the game but it makes me sad to see such potential go to waste. I was really late to join the souls experience, I played my first souls game, dark souls 1 for the very first time last year. Few months later I had played every entry on PC around 2~4 times and wanted to try something new while waiting for elden ring. So I decided to try DS2 out. And this might sound insane but the game is so good yet so bad, and I love it but at the same time I don't think I'll consider replaying it again. I'm not totally done with it yet, I think I have 3 more bosses in the main game but I went to tackle the dlc first and I just finished the crown of the old iron king dlc I don't care about the disjointed world, the environments are gorgeous, areas like the iron keep, dragon aerie, and the shrine of amana are simply beautiful. But that beauty is immediately ruined because the game game is infuriatingly difficult, and much of that difficulty isn't even in your control. there are way too many enemies, and way too many surprise enemies everywhere. I can't believe how hellish the runs to most of the bosses in this game, it got the point where I just backed up my save immediately outside the fog wall of some of the bosses after clearing all the enemies just to avoid wasting 15 minutes trying to get to some of them without dying or wasting all my estus, especially with the red and blue smelter demons. And I hate whoever thought to tie i-frames and estus chugging speed to a specific stat. This guy is a spawn from hell, I didn't know about the adaptability stat until I started the dlc, so I immediately respecced to invest more points in it. Estus chugging will get you killed most of the times, or at least won't heal you because it's so slow. Most of the bosses are bad. I don't really care if they're all knights in shining armors, that isn't why I hate them, most of them are either way too easy, or just try to raise the difficulty by gangraping you to death "belfry gargoyles and ruin sentinels", and the boss music isn't as good as other titles as well. Sir Alonne and the fume knight are huge exceptions though, the difference in quality between those 2 and every single boss I fought so far is insane. Sir Alonne is probably my favorite fight in the entire game, and definitely a top 10 in the series. The game has a lot of potential and a lot of new neat mechanics that aren't even in DS3, the variety in weapons in armors is insane. There are few extremely good details and gimmicks in the game, and honestly, if this game had some rework to some of mechanics and had fewer enemies a few tweaks to the bosses. It would've been the best entry in the series. Rant over, sorry if that was too long, but I'm quarantined and bored, so.. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:49 PM PDT I had some good times with this game but plenty of bad ones. I like the game but not sure I would want to play again. This game is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played and was very unique I'm style as well. I love Ds1 I've beaten it many times and this felt very different. I don't feel as connected to the story or the quests and usually I get amped up and want to try again with challenging games but I honestly just felt like getting the game over with near the end. The boss fights just got to be a chore half the time as I died many more times from explodabros than any boss. I feel like I was playing the game wrong or maybe I'm just but hurt but what do you think? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 06:48 AM PDT I'm going for 100% and need to reach Sunbros rank 3 but there doesn't seem to be much activity these days. I've tried farming falconers but even with the recommended item discovery gear it's paaaainful. You guys got any advice? Best places to put summon sign down in 2020? Stick with farming or focus on summons? Any advice or help is appreciated. Praise the sun (eventually) [link] [comments] |
Just about to start DS2 for the first time. Build advice? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:41 PM PDT I'm trying to start as blind as possible, while also getting some advice as build/stat advice so I don't get hamstrung later in the game. I've done a bit of research; Str/Dex seem to be the general consensus for favorite DS2 build. I haven't seen many specific stat spreads to shoot for. Can I get advice as far as stat allocation and early game prioritization? Do people recommend bothering with magic on such builds? (I'm not new to the series, as I've beaten DS1 with both a Dex Pyromancer build and a Str / Faith build.) [link] [comments] |
Augur of Darkness Dragonrider Bosses Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:21 PM PDT I've finally hit the wall boys. 11 years of souls bosses and this is the one that gets me, there is no way to win, no way out, there is no way out. [link] [comments] |
Greetings to my fellow Sun Bros - (Slightly) Long post incoming! Posted: 01 Jun 2020 05:49 AM PDT Hi everyone. I'm new here; not only to the DS2 sub, but also to Reddit itself. So...hello, I guess. I played the original Dark Souls 2 and it's DLC some years back, and I really liked it. I finished the base game, but none of the DLC areas. Fast forward to 2020, and I'm stuck at home, with my university closed indefinitely, and I finally have enough money to buy Scholar of the First Sin. Now, I have a couple of questions:- 1. How active is the PvP on DS2:SotFS? I played the original, but it wasn't exactly a legitimate copy...and I'd rather not go into the details of that. I didn't have the money to buy it back then. But anyway, since PvP and summoning are such key features of the Souls games, I'd like to check them out.
I'd appreciate any help I can get on these topics. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
This might be an unpopular opinion Posted: 31 May 2020 04:02 PM PDT Today i started my Dark Souls SotFS journey, and i got so addicted to it that i played it for about 10 hours. Anyway, in my opinion the combat is so unique and great compared to the other two games, which i played before this. The backstab animations are great, and there's so much to discover. Adding the adaptability stat was also a good idea. (Spoilers) I just finished the Lost Bastille, killed the Old Dragonslayer and i have done every area before it, travel-wise. This might just be the best of the Dark Souls series. But i haven't yet found the Warriors of Sunlight covenant. I'm starting to go Hollow... [link] [comments] |
