/r/DarkSouls2 - Modding Monday. Posted: 17 May 2020 11:14 PM PDT Welcome to the weekly Dark Souls mod announcement and discussion thread! Beware! Use of mods whilst connected to the internet can cause you to get banned from online play! For more information, or to continue the discussion visit /r/ModSouls Using mods (PC only!) to enhance or add new content to the Souls games is great fun! It is important, however, to understand that mods are against From's EULA/ToS, so there is a great risk of being banned when using them due to From's anti-cheat--which is deployed in most versions of the Souls games. Versions of the games where modding is safe due to no anti-cheat: Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Versions of the games where modding carries a very high risk of being banned: Dark Souls: Remastered Dark Souls II Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin Dark Souls III Our recommendations for safe modding *This advice is intended for first-time or relatively inexperienced modders who want to get into modding without risking a ban on their main Steam account. Basic Steps: Make a separate Steam account Use Steam's Family Sharing feature to provide your new account with access to your main Steam account's game library. Install games to be used with the new account in a separate directory. Once you've found your mods be sure to read (and follow) the mod author's instructions carefully prior to installation. Set Steam to "off line" mode. Install the mods and perform any necessary setup. Enjoy the fun and interesting experiences offered by mods! Be sure to remove all file components of the mod before going back online!Helpful Information for New Users Be sure to check the /r/DarkSouls2/wiki page, where you can find community-created tips and research threads. Drangleic Castle is really disappointing Posted: 18 May 2020 08:02 AM PDT First, I wanted to say that I absolutely love this game and this post isn't written to prove that DS2 is shit or smth along these lines, it definetely isn't. Getting to the point, I was playing SotFS for the first time and after many hours I finally reached Drangleic Castle. It was supposed to be one of the most important locations in the entire kingdom, but it was an utter disappointment. The exterior is really ugly, after many beautiful areas I've seen in this game, Drangleic Castle feels really bland and uninteresting. Its interior isn't much better, long chain of almost empty rooms, I understand that the kingdom is in decay, but still. Anor Londo from DS1 or Irithyll and Lothric from DS3 were really well designed, rooms felt real and exploring them was such a pleasure, Drangleic Castle feels really poor in comparison. To make things worse, game developers copied enemies from previous areas, even if it doesn't make any sense lorewise. What are pyromancers doing there? Ruin Sentinels? Executioner's Chariot horse? One of the two bosses in this castle is just doubled version of Dragonrider from early game. I should also mention that Nashandra's placement feels really strange and out of place. Was this location rushed or something? Did the developers run out of time? I really feel that this place could be so much more... I must add that of course I can see positives here and there. The conversation with the ghost was one of the saddest moments in my playthrough and really showed the true state of Drangleic. Also the second boss was really interesting and well designed, one of my favourite fights. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 May 2020 07:33 AM PDT Sorry, just want to rant. Fuck these fuckers. I swear they're harder to deal with than any of the bosses in the whole game. Finishing the game with no death and no bonfire is easier than dealing with these fuckers. [link] [comments] |
Beat DS2 for the first time. This game really sets itself apart. Posted: 18 May 2020 02:22 PM PDT I just got done beating the game for the first time and I'm really satisfied with it. I've beaten 1 and 3 but was always slacking on 2. I sat down about a month ago and decided it was time to come back and finish it. It was challenging and hard but always enjoyable. I feel like the game stood out to me out of all the souls games, it told me a great story as well as immersed me in the world a way DS1 and 3 was not able to do. Both are amazing games but DS 2 takes the cake. What are some of the things that make different souls games better or worse for you guys? [link] [comments] |
PC players, rember to back up your save files manually from time to time! Posted: 18 May 2020 12:31 AM PDT Why? Unexpected Hacker destroying your game, Accidentally deleting a Character, Save file corruption, etc. How to do it: User -> [your username on your PC] -> AppData -> Roaming -> DarkSoulsII , and then in the extra folder. You only need to copy what's in the folder. If you have both the Vanilla AND the Scholar edition, and have played both already (as in created characters) then you will see two files. The Scholar file will start with something like DS2SOFS... while the Vanilla will start with something like DARKSII... . [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 May 2020 07:48 AM PDT I just beat fume knight for the first time and I'm buzzing. Easily the most difficult boss I've ever faced (took me close to 5 hours) though this is my first souls game. I'm using a quality build ( str 40 Dex 25) with no magic or pyromancies. Player level 137 with a red iron twinblade. I can't wait to finish the remaining two bosses in this dlc then start on the last one. I had already beat the base game. I just had to tell someone lol. I'm so excited. Praise the sun. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 May 2020 05:50 AM PDT I just want to know if I should get the scholar of the first sin edition or the regular edition because I have heard different things about which one I should buy [link] [comments] |
The path to the Smelter demon boss has me laughing hard Posted: 18 May 2020 03:47 PM PDT It's not even sad at this point.. This game really sucks when it comes to the world design sometimes.. Like seriously? There are about 7 knights blocking my way, all of them take out half of my health when I get hit, the risk of sliding off to lava and sloooow fog-traverse animation when I get hit by the archer guard 90% of the time. Am I missing something, is there a different, shorter and easier way to the boss? Or am I supposed to kill all the knights each time I want to fight the boss (which would take like 5-10 minutes ONLY to get to the boss arena to face a very tough opponent which can kill me because of one minor mistake)? I think this is the single worst thing Fromsoft has put in their games, I've never been so frustrated about an arena before in Bb and ds3.. UPDATE: I just beat him. I died more times running up to the boss than actually dying to Smelter. Shame, it was a fun fight weighed down by the annoying spammy mobs [link] [comments] |
Eleum Loyce by design is the nuts Posted: 17 May 2020 10:41 PM PDT I was reading an article and this comment showed up that made me really baffled about.
(Don't mind the question about CoC thingy.) I've sometimes felt dumbfounded about arguments against DkS2 (I know it's not perfect and has flaws as any game) but this just takes the cake, let me explain why this made feel this way, and how I can counter-argument. I'll talk about the design of the progression and how it rewards you by exploring. When you arrive at Eleum Loyce and start exploring you'll notice that there are paths closed off by ice and is mostly a straight path to the Eye of the priestess which then leads you to Aava's fog gate, kill the dog and proceed to the grand cathedral, we can observe that there's a frozen chest just in front of Alsanna, then we speak to her and she unfrozes the entrance to the Old Chaos. Now that earlier chest is unfrozen and then, there's an epiphany, all the places blocked by ice, the chests frozen still and the pharros contraption crying solid tears, we assume are now open to exploration and that makes us backtrack, just like Metroid, you get a new power-up and many paths open. The games does it work by showing and not telling, seeing all those juicy frozen chests, the big-ass door that has 4 unlit torches and you try to use the butterfly to lit you torch it immediately puts out, the pharros contraption, and so on. This is good game design, if you, by some reason or another, go directly to the fog gate you can see, even before entering that there are 4 chairs, 3 empty and one occupied. If you don't pay attention or see the chairs and plunge yourself to chaos, the lonley knight of eleum loyce will sacrifice to close one portal of three, which makes you wonder how can we close the other two portals, now that you are (most probably) dead make your way to the boss and it's a must that you see the chairs and connect the dots, even Alsanna says the knights are waiting patiently. You wander in the new open areas and find the knights chilling and once you found them, now is an even fight. You know which thing this games does bad, the windmill in earthen peak, now, that's some ass. TL;DR: The game makes you backtrack just by seeing one frozen chest being unfrozen by natural progression of the level. it doesn't tell you what to do but it shows it and rewards your exploration. First encounter with an actually impressive cheater Posted: 18 May 2020 01:50 PM PDT So, I just got my entire character information reset to zero, i was in fact lvl 838, for variety purpuses (although it might not change much i use "northern ritual band +2 and don't buff in the arena) and a dude crashed my game, and on reload every aspect of my character was gone. Souls, soul memory , lvl , sin, everything. Even my character model was reset to a Mr Clean look, and thats impressive, because i mingled with CE lua scripting and that ain't easy. So I was wandering if more people had this experience, and if someone already spoke about it. [TLDR]: My character got fucked by a hacker and I'd like to know by whom [link] [comments] |
Is there an overhaul mod for DS2? Posted: 18 May 2020 07:09 AM PDT Hello feeble cursed ones!! I just started playing daughters of ash for dark souls remastered yesterday and I'm loving it. After that I plan on doing a playthrough of cinders for ds3 as well, and was wondering if there was a similar mod for dark souls 2. Do any of you guys know about one? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 May 2020 03:56 AM PDT If I use a spell that adds a element to a weapon (such as dark weapon), will it add MORE dark if my weapon already has dark? [link] [comments] |
What's with the blood stains that show multiple ghosts? Posted: 18 May 2020 12:28 PM PDT Seems to be a change with SofFS. Now I occassionaly touch a blood stain and 5 or 6 ghosts will pop out and charge off a cliff or something. Are these actually real players, or something the devs added to make the game seem more populated? They often all look very similar. [link] [comments] |
Disable double clicking problems Posted: 18 May 2020 03:42 PM PDT Every time I boot up DS2 on PC it acts as though double clicking is enabled unless I mess around with the menu again. Got any suggestions on how to make disabling it stick? [link] [comments] |
I can see my friends sign, They cant see mine [PS4] Posted: 18 May 2020 03:39 PM PDT So recently I got SotFS with my girlfriend on Playstation 4. Shes brand spanking new to Darksouls while I'm more of a veteran (albeit on Xbox, but I've never had this issue on Xbox) so I'm more concerned with helping her in her world to progress since I can perfectly fine. However, at cardinal tower, we're having some issues with summoning that's exactly as the title says. I can see her sign, she cant see mine. I've tried Name engraved ring, activating cross region even though we're in the same town. We even have near identical soul memory(mine is 27k. Hers is 26k). Nothing gets her to see my sign. Both of us are human, and neither of us are under the effects of a burned effigy (she can see other people's signs). We've restarted the game multiple times in an effort to get it to work. Nothing.
