I loved this game, but I don't see myself every playing it again

    Posted: 22 May 2020 11:05 AM PDT

This was my first souls game and I thought it was amazing, and still do. I never really agreed with the majority of the criticisms, like "artificial difficulty", "ADP is irredemably bad", "iron keep doesn't do geography!!11!!!1!" etc, I played the game through maybe 5 times, and I like it, it's a good game.

But now I've been through DS1, DS3 and BB and I think there's a thing I never feel on them that I do feel on DS2, and that's like some areas are just work. Like I should be paid for getting through them. It doesn't mean the areas are bullshit or bad, but they just are not fun for me at all, they feel like a slog. I'd put brightstone cove, gutter, gulch, amana, most of drangleic castle, no man's wharf, sinner's rise, earthen peak and iron keep all in this category. They're areas which are still just not fun for me to go through, even if I'm running and know where I'm going. I don't know quite what it is about them, I think they're just a slog - loads of enemies, constant attrition, long often long runs with enemies you often end up needing to fight. And when I've just mentioned so many areas, which are pretty much all compulsory except wharf, I just can't see myself getting through all the stuff I dislike, even though there are areas and bosses I love. And it's not like the other games are devoid of suck, although I basically like all of Bloodborne, but maybe it's just the length of the game so it ends up feeling like a huge long run.

I'm not sure what I expect people to reply, if anyone does, except maybe letting me know if you feel the same way about the areas I mentioned, or any tips to make those areas fun? I'm sad to not have the desire to replay it, but yeah, that's where I am.

An interesting thing I found out

    Posted: 22 May 2020 11:05 AM PDT

So, I was at dragon aerie recently, and then wrnt to heide and noticed something: the drakekeepers and the old knights look and fight similarly. Could it be that the old knights are ancient drakekeepers?

Can someone try some cosplay souls for me?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 02:08 PM PDT

Unfortunately my PS3 refuses to load DS2. I guess its too old to work anymore. I was trying to make a Madara Uchica cosplay... The Fashion Souls page would not let me post this there for some reason.

    (No helm)

    Mad Warrior Armor

    Archdrake Gloves

    Alonne's Leggings

Gyrm Greataxe with either a whip or a scythe in the offhand. Its the closest thing to that weird fan thing he uses.

Anyone still helping via white soapstone?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 01:42 PM PDT

Got platinum on bloodborne a few weeks ago, followed recently by DS3. Online community on both still seems present, though there are some understandable delays given how old the games are.

Been playing DS2 for a few days now, and haven't found a single person to summon for boss help. I get summoned plenty in front of bosses, but can't ever find help (yes, I'm human form).

Is there some difference here, like signs written only near bonfires? Any reason why my pre-boss rooms are always devoid of summon signs?

Just finished Dark souls 2. Again

    Posted: 22 May 2020 01:32 PM PDT

This is on mobile so apologies for formatting.

OK I suppose I should start by saying I've playing all the dark souls games and sekiro, I have an xbox so that's all I can play sadly. I had played dark souls 2 about three years ago and just kind of forgot about it.

I remeber coming out of the game thinking I had an okay time, but after years of the general dark souls 2 discourse I found my like of the dark turn to hated which, in turn, turned to curiosity.

So I decided to replay it

I had kept it since, never throw away my souls games and I dusted off my SOTFS edition and decided I would play the DLC as well.

I have to say I had a lot of fun. A lot of the issues I had with it when I first played seemed to vanish. Sure the game is very easy, up until the DLC but unlike 3 and 1 in two. I just had fun.

It was fresh after all these years, and unlike dark souls 1, the base game of dark souls 2 had some bosses I looked forward to fighting, the looking glass knight, the pursuer, I won't go on about the bosses to much.

The dlc, wow, just wow, I found the DLCs, epcially crown of the sunken King, to be some of the best souls has ever offered, not to mention sinh was an incredible boss.

I'll stop it there as this is already long, but after years of growing a dislike for the game I think dark souls two holds its own among its counterparts.

TL;DR I used to dislike dark souls two but after an expansive playthrough I now really love it!!!

    Recommend a bow?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 01:20 PM PDT

So I think I'm roughly half way through my first playthrough of the game at this point running with a Quality build, end goal will probably be 40 STR and 40 DEX. So far I've been using the longbow when I need to do some range damage, I think I've got it up to +6 at this point. Are there any other standard bows people would recommend? Anything that's gonna get a better balance of damage for stamina if I upgrade it?

Also any recommended weapons in general? I've been using the Claymore for a while now, (I like greatswords) but I'd like to try some other options. Just haven't found anything with quite the right moveset, I like weapons that can both slash and thrust while one handed.

Flames of Old Mod release date?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 01:17 PM PDT

Pretty much title. I couldn't find any precise info on when the mod is supposed to be released. I'm currently in the process of finishing up DS1 and am gearing up mod-wise for my DS2 SOTFS playthrough.

Should I wait for the mod to be released? From what I am reading so far, it does pose a nice visual improvement over current mods or even vanilla.

Also, is there any official site of the mod? It's not on the Nexus and I haven't found any official sources.

Would like to know your opinion on the mod and if it's worth waiting for the release before going ahead and just starting to play. Thanks!

Guys I am having trouble with Afflicted Graverobber, Ancient Soldier Varg, and Cerah the Old Explorer in the sunken king dlc. Can anyone give me any tips?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 12:30 PM PDT

I am 50 str character. I get easily overwhelmed by all 3 of them. And keep dying without learning anything. It's like I run to the boss for so long and then the fight is over within a minute. I just wanna get past this boss so i can move forward. I was using the king ultra greatsword in hopes of pancaking them. But it's not working either.

Dark souls co-op without the invasions

    Posted: 22 May 2020 12:10 PM PDT

Hello. So I love the souls series! And I really want my wife to be able to enjoy the games too. She agreed to play through the series if we could do it as coop. We started in ds1 and did it with one of our friends. He is no longer available to play with us so I wondering, is there anyway to do coop in ds2 and 3 if you know it too with out being online and getting invaded. Invasions are great and can be fun but we just looking for a relaxing time to play together and enjoy the game. If anyone knows how to do this please let me know.

    Advice on playing a Sorcerer/Cleric?

    Posted: 22 May 2020 08:19 AM PDT

I've beaten DS2 several times but always as a Quality Build- which is an obvious fact that I only just realized now. I've only ever used sorceries, pyromancies, miracles, hexes when I'm at a fairly high endgame level (Level 150+). Usually, I use magic as an easy way of farming certain equipment from tough enemies/bosses and then I'd immediately re-spec back to a STR/DEX skillset.

In short, I've never actually started a playthrough as a Sorcerer and developed it to end game level. The last time I tried a sorcerer (or was it cleric? can't remember) was to ignore the magic-related stat and focus quality-build stats- which basically defeats the purpose of picking a Sorcerer in the first place. I know that if I do that exact same route now, I'll end up ditching the character and go with either a Knight or Explorer for the umpteenth time. And this time, I really want to give magic a serious go; there's really not much to do these days.

Anyways, I'm seeking tips and advice from experienced magic players. How should I level my character and what sort of approach do I do for magic-oriented play? What's your advice on back-up melee weapon? My favorite starting weapons are the mace (or morning star depending on my mood), rapier, and fire sword. I'd also use the short bow for sniping enemies just to make my early game a bit easier. Should I invest some start into weilding at least one of these?

Oh, and I play PvE exclusively. Shitty internet connection.

Please help to add some magic to my build.

    Posted: 22 May 2020 11:58 AM PDT

I have finished Dark Souls 3 with a great sword and now I have played like 30 hours of DS 2 with katana. I did not touch any magic yet. There seem to be so many spells.

ATM I have VIG 21, END 25, STR 21, DEX 24, ADP 25(SL - 83) everything else is default knight.

I don't want to run with a magic staff. I would like to fight mostly in melee and occasionally use some cool magic.

Is there any build like that? Can I even be half physical, half magical or I will lack in both?

    Post Game NG

    Posted: 22 May 2020 11:13 AM PDT

How much is there to do after completing the game and the DLCs? I understand there is NG+ but does everyone go straight into that or is there more left to do in terms of co-op in the base game. Also is co-op less active in NG+?

Dark Souls 2 Is Wayyy To Hard

    Posted: 22 May 2020 11:13 AM PDT

So I picked up Dark Souls 2 this morning and I got to the village pretty fast. Than I went to the Heide's Tower Of Flame and I died like 20 times to the boss. Than I found out there was another boss on a different path from the village so I went there and I got absolutely demolished like 40 times. I couldnt figure out where to go and I basically just got murdered a LOT. I than found the mist/entrance to the giant and I felt stupid because I walked past it like 3 times. Than I died once to the boss and felt like I actually got good but than I just realized the boss was just easy. I than died 3 times to the gold guard just to know that I cant enter it. I am completely lost know trying to find the way while dying over 20 times. I bought Dark Souls 3 around like 20 March and I fell in love with it. It took me around 20 minutes to beat Iudex and than I died like 30 times to reach Vordt. (I got lost a lot.) After around 80 mins I beat Vordt and I dont know how but it just clicked after Vordt. I didnt die as much and I learned how to roll/not shield. I dont know why but it seems like I have less invincibility while rolling in Dark Souls 2. I have beat Dark Souls 3 now except Darkeater Midir and Gael so I bought Dark Souls 2, but its just too hard. I don't know if I can beat it. Did you guys have trouble with Dark Souls 2 or am I just bad? Also do you guys have tips for me? Thanks for reading this and have a great day!

    Edit: Grammar
